The 20 Best Restaurants in Reykjavík, Iceland | Eater

"After working in fine dining restaurants in France and Iceland, Aurore Pélier Cady opened this fine French patisserie that infuses things like choux, macarons, and cakes with seasonal Icelandic herbs and flowers, many of which she forages for herself. The bakery sits in a chilled out downstairs space with comfy seating. Nice coffees and breakfast pastries make it an easy place to linger." - Nicholas Gill

Debuted summer in 2022 Sweet Aurora is self-described as the first French fine pastry shop in Iceland, owner Aurore Pélier Cady’s time at Institute Paul Bocuse translated into a collection of Macarons, Choux and Entremets served in a basement shop at Bergstaðarstræti 14. An austere spot opening at 10h00 daily, dog friendly and playing Nirvana loudly on this particular Monday, guests are greeted by the owner from behind a glass case featuring everything from Mousse to Dacquoise, Cream and Biscuit. Advertised by tagging on nearby sidewalks, prices on par with other Bakeries in the capitol, first bites of Sweet Aurora’s Canele suggest rushed baking and silicon molds while everything that followed was far more impressive including a thick Chocolate Chip Cookie zig-zagged in savory Miso. Performing well with another classic, Choux breaking cleanly around natural Pistachio Cream inside an Eclair, Cady’s “Carrot Cake” highlights form and flavor tinged with Citrus while the “Flankie” places Chocolate Custard atop a Cookie layer divided by Pecan Praline.

Absolutely delicious! These desserts were balanced, delicate and just the right amount of sweet. Also has a great gluten free selection. Take small bites and savor every one!

The dark chocolate cake called “Passion” was so so good! The mousse remind me of Royce Nama Chocolate, Very rich and smooth! the passionfruit cuts the richness very well. Couldnt taste the banana but it was a good experience overall. The cheesecake was a bit too sticky for our liking.

We ordered one of the Passion desserts. It was the greatest dessert I've ever eaten. I've had the privilege of traveling to Paris, France prior to this and eating multiple desserts from a few patisserie's there. The Passion we ate here rivaled the flavor and textural complexity of anything I had tried in Paris, but incorporated an Icelandic flavor profile that elevated it to a whole different level. Eat slowly and savor every bite. These are works of art.

Excellent patisserie with cakes as works of art and great coffee too, in a small cozy space. This was a perfect spot for an afternoon break as we checked out the sights in Reykjavik. Our group had a selection of cakes and all were exquisite and delicious. Sweet Aurora is worth a visit if you are in the neighbourhood.

So delicious! I got a volcano tart and it did not disappoint. This is definitely worth a stop as this might be one of the best pastries I’ve ever had

A lovely experience. We had a birthday on this trip and they had the perfect patisserie for her 'Birthday cake'. We were so pleased with our selection and that there were multiple gluten-free options.
