This place is amazing! I tried the marinated chicken with the Hot Mess sauce and it was very good. The fresh beignet balls was excellent too. Definitely one of my favorite spots!

Food was delicious. The hot mess fries were a perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The sweet banh bao was a small serving but perfect for a light lunch. The pork was tender and flavorful. The restaurant is a little quiet but allows for a relaxed dining experience.

$23.45 + tax for these two photos. I had to call and make sure we got everything we were supposed to because of how small the portions were. The explanation I got was “those are very high quality shrimp”. This honestly blows my mind to the point I find it funny. 😆 I usually don’t leave reviews like this but just had to with this one. Yes, I know inflation has hit everything, but I haven't seen shrink-flation until this. We’ll just stick to Crystal Pho / BMT from now on, they seem to be less affected by whatever is going on here.

We were in Beaumont for a night and decided on this place for dinner. The map took us to Sweet Basil through some backstreets and for a moment we were concerned about where we were going. But then we emerged into a regular shopping center and we breathed again. The place, it being a Thursday night, was pretty empty - only about 8 or 10 people in a place for about 50ish seats. We were also a bit early, about 7pm. The waiter hands us the menu, we take out time and then choose a plate of sweet bahn bao (those little fluffy breads filled with meats and veggies) with marinated pork and a plate of hot mess fries. They were both sooooo good. After we were done with the starters we ordered a sweet basil special fried rice to share. The plate was huge and, again, very flavorful. By the time we finished, more people had started coming in. Later, we told some other local people about the place and they who said that this was one of their favorite restaurants in town. Our check for the two of us, with tips, totaled just above $50.

Google
We have been here twice. It has been clean both times. Service is a bit slow, but not too bad. Food is served fresh and we would return again should we be passing thru Beaumont and craving some good Vietnamese.

Google
I love Sweet Basil. Great food! But i was disaapointed to see a $5.00 increase for the Veggies & Noodles dish. Last month, I paid $10.95 or $13.95 with chicken. There was always enough food for 2 meals. Yesterday, that same dish was $18.95 (chicken included) and half the serving size! I also ordered an appetizer and egg rolls for a total of $42! Again, i usually paid $20+ for those same 3 items. That is a $20 increase in one month. Unreasonable! I know times are difficult and small business are still struggling, but i can not afford to pay $42 for one person. I hate it, but i cannot eat at this establishment at these steep prices. Possibly, try saving money by cutting down on wait staff as servers were standing around doing nothing. Usually, the place is not full so i would look into better management. Then, you might be able to lower prices and get more customers.

Yelp
We stopped by for lunch and had a very taste meal. We had the vegetable noodles (mine with chicken and my wife had the pork) and they were delicious. They were a bowl of egg noodles with cabbage, carrots, onions, bok choy, and chicken (for protein) with a slightly sweet sauce that was especially favorful. I understand their Pho has the best broth and is also worth another visit. The atmosphere is good with plenty of tables and servers to provide excellent customer service. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
The best dish ordered was the com bo nuong/marinated rib-eye rice bowl. The meat was well seasoned, and nuoc cham/fish sauce complemented it well. Everything else was ok. The pan-fried dumplings (menu stated pan-fried but it looked completely fried) were too greasy, Koko short ribs were too sweet, and the pho was a little bland. I saw a few tables eating boiled crawfish but I didn't see it on the menu. Service was good. Kudos to y'all for a clean, spacious restaurant, including the restroom with a baby changing table. It's not often that you visit a clean Vietnamese restaurant.

Yelp
We were passing through the area, making our way back to Florida, and stopped for the night in Beaumont. Looking around for a place to eat dinner after checking in at our hotel, we first went by a Vietnamese restaurant on the West side of town... but it just didn't have the right feel for us when we looked at it from the outside. Fortunately, Sweet Basil was next on our list, and we were happy with the food and service. Inside, it has a lot of roominess to the dining area because there is no false ceiling. This helps immensely when it comes to noise from other tables, as you do not get sound reflecting from the roof. It does give an odd feeling to your spatial awareness, however. We started off with some dumplings and summer rolls, which were quite good except for the dipping sauce for the summer rolls... that turned out to be somewhat lacking in flavour, which was sad. Really though, that was the only low point of our experience. We both had nice bowls of pho for our main course, and that was excellent. The serving sizes are pretty standard for a Vietnamese restaurant (I have been to many, and they all use the same size bowls for the pho). The service was good too, and we were well taken care of. If I am back in Beaumont during the dinner hour, I will be seeking this place out again.

Yelp
The flavor of the marinated pork banh mi was okay, but the amount of meat in the sandwich was abysmal...I left behind half of the bread because I had to move all the meat to one side. The service was good, and the ambiance is nice. Will be back, not for the banh mi.

Yelp
Love this place for amazing Pho and ramen. Flavors were phenomenal and service exceeded expectations. Great for lunch or dinner

Gwen K.

Yelp
The Hot mess fries are fantastic and I also loved the vegetable with noodles with the prime rib for choice of meat. I usually get the food to go. The service was great.

Yelp
This is my go to Vietnamese Noodle House here in Beaumont. The egg rolls are delicious, the spring rolls were good (they are super sticky), and their pho is great. I did order their pho to go and the noodles never softened up or really broke apart. It could be my own doing but the flavor was there! The restaurant is always fairly full. I wish they would update their seats as a majority of them are peeling and their tables need to be refinished (they are really sticky).

Yelp
We had an awesome meal and experience here yesterday on our way from Lake Charles to Houston. My paternal grandmother is from Beaumont, but since my childhood I rarely go to this area of Texas unless I am going to a cemetery to visit family members' graves. On the way back from a trip to Lake Charles, we needed to eat some lunch and I found Sweet Basil on yelp. Our server was fantastic but I did not get her name, Everyone besides me ordered hot tea, and they all got enormous cups with steaming water, which made everyone happy. My mom ordered vegan crispy rolls and my grandma got charbroiled tofu summer rolls for appetizers. I tried each of them and they were so good. For meals, my mom and grandma both ordered the charbroiled tofu vermicelli bowl, but my grandma is allergic to peanuts so we asked for those left off. I got the charbroiled tofu bun bao, and Eric R. ordered the spicy ramen. I knew that someone would not finish their noodle bowl, so I waited until my mom handed me the rest of hers so I could enjoy more food. I was able to try so many different tofu dishes that were all really tasty. Eric R. enjoyed his ramen too. The menu is quite extensive. If I am ever back in the Golden Triangle, I will eat here!

Yelp
I love the Food and love the Service it's great and the Ambiance is also amazing everyday

Jennifer B.

Yelp
We eat pho at least once a week. Decided to give sweet basil a try. Worst thing we could have done. Asked for a booth and the greeter acted like it was a problem, so we sat at a table instead. Server brought out the soy beans and garnish for the pho and I literally was like uhhh...there were enough soybeans for 2 bites. See pic. When I asked for more it was the end of the world. Server didn't check with us except to ask if we were ready for the check. Ridiculous.
google avatar

Haley J.

Yelp
The service was great. The menu had something for everyone, as two of the people with us aren't fans of this type of food, but we all found something delicious to eat. Also- we had the hot mess fries which were delicious.
google avatar

Gail D.

Yelp
The food is always great and the service good. It always looks clean and tidy. It has become a go to for us.
google avatar

Graciela I.

Yelp
Their food is delicious. Their broth is the kind of food that will lift your spirits when you're sick with a cold and want something warm. So I know I am being very specific but it tastes homemade, not greasy at all, has a lot of herbs.
google avatar

Jasmine M.

Yelp
Service was so-so, but the food was not great. I ordered oxtail & brisket pho and they were very stingy with everything from the amount of bean sprout, the basil, the hoisin sauce, and the amount of noodles they put in the actual bowl. Like they gave pre-measured little disposable plastic cups of sauce?? Are y'all rationing around here?? Additionally, I had to ask the server for the veggie toppings.. their limes were good tho. Another note on the noodles, though, you can tell when the noodles are freshly cooked and directly put into your pho vs cooked, measured into a bowl, and then put in the fridge so when someone orders pho all they have to do is ladle the broth in the bowl. It makes the noodles a solid clump that you have to break up with your chopsticks. Unfortunately, the noodles were a solid clump in my bowl. So yeah overall a stingy and lazy restaurant that banks on the fact the demographic that eats here doesn't know what to expect out of Vietnamese food but then again they never said they were authentic cuisine. They should spend more of their budget on the food than the decorations.

Yelp
Food was delicious, the service was excellent and the servers were so kind and fast. Ambiance was great! The owner and his wife both came to our table to check on us. Fantastic experience all around! Would highly recommend!

Yelp
(FOOD) Hot mess fries and marinated rib eye. The fries were the bee's knees. There were bits of beef and the sauce was AMAZING. I couldn't stop eating it omggggg. The marinated rib eye was good and even BETTER if you dunk it in their nuoc mam sauce. The rice was also authentic af. Impressive for a Vietnamese Asian fusion in a flyover city like Beaumont. (SERVICE) It was packed and it took a while to get service but the delicious food made up for it. (VENUE) The place doesn't look like much from the outside but has pretty big and clean interiors. Lots of parking so you'll be good, homie. Would I come back? HEELLLLL NO. BUT, if I was stranded in Beaumont I'll be here everyday. (;

Grace W.

Yelp
I come here all the time and the staff is great . I love the pho I get there and it's nice and clean inside the restaurant. Also a very good vibe because of the lights . I'm always so happy with my food . Egg rolls are great . Best pho spot in Beaumont

Ryan C.

Yelp
The best food in our area! If you have never had Pho, try it here and you'll fall in love

Joe B.

Yelp
Husband was turned away from restaurant with licensed, trained, and certified service animal. He is deaf and could not explain their reason. He said he could not read the persons lips. He wanted to leave after the conversation he had with the manager. She did not wait to speak with a hearing person. Restaurants in Beaumont that value all members of society: Toasted Yolk J. Miller IHOP Longhorn Steak House Texas Road House Del Rio Every other restaurant in town! The list go on and on. Sweet Basil No Service Animal Allowed The atmosphere at the restaurant was very negative and unwelcoming.

Keith S.

Yelp
Highly recommend the hot mess fries, big band sliders, bon mi and associated bin bao.

Yelp
Fantastic food and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes.

Yelp
3 words... hot mess fries!!!! OMG- they are delicious!!! I also like to get fried rice and add the hot mess sauce, so so good, and the service is always top notch!

Yelp
Completely LOVE this place for the flavors and some of the most unique Vegetarian options (not for myself mind you). Visiting family in the area, while traveling from Austin, we were pleased to drive from Port Arthur and find the travel worth the trip to come here. The marinated beef and pork is unmatched no matter which dish you try it on. The tofu salad I sampled was great and HUGE for the value.

Yelp
Beaumont always seems to surprise me with the good food they have there. This spot is one of them. I came here and ordered takeout. I tried their tofu bun vermicelli and veggie crunch rolls. Both were great. I loved the grilled tofu, rice noodles, and the soy sauce based marinade that went with it. Every bite was delicious. The crunch roll was crispy and tasted great with the sriracha and fish sauce. I think this spot doesn't have the typical fish sauce marinade for the bun vermicelli. The crunch roll tasted more like Chinese egg rolls than Vietnamese egg rolls. But, the food quality is great. I can't wait to eat their food when I'm back in Beaumont again.
google avatar

Maria O.

Yelp
I decided to give this place a try after seeing good reviews on Yelp. The portion is small for $18.35. The vermicelli comes with a few pieces of chicken, two shrimp and an egg roll. The chicken is good but not the shrimp.

Aaron L.

Yelp
Best restaurant in South East Texas! I've tried just about everything on the menu and everything is amazing. You can't go wrong with the Pho, Salmon, Chicken, or sandwiches. They always have excellent service as well!:)

Yelp
Food was pretty good the buns where very small so for $8 not a dinner needed seasoning the ramen was greasy but good flavor

Alicia H.

Yelp
Food is always fresh and delicious, and the staff is always super friendly. Rarely have to wait for a table, and if we do, it's not long.

Yelp
I love this place. The ramen is fantastic and the service is prompt and courteous. My favorite noodle place in the Port Arthur/Beaumont/Nederland area.

Yelp
When we walked in the door, I was transported from the plain Jane strip mall outside to this trendy urban Asian-style restaurant. The staff was customer-focused, and they worked well as a team. Now, the food. ***Chef's kiss*** I highly recommend anything with the chargrilled tofu. One of the best tofu preparations I've ever had. I ordered the chargrilled tofu rice bowl with additional stir-fry veggies on the side. I put it all on one plate, and I didn't regret that for a minute. The veggies were fresh, cooked and sauced perfectly, and they were a great addition to the rice bowl. I must try everything on the vegetarian menu now! Don't worry, meat-eaters...most of the menu caters to you. I guarantee your experience will be excellent, as well. Enjoy!

Yelp
The food and CRAWFISH are the bomb.. The service is always great and it's a peaceful atmosphere this is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Southeast Texas. I definitely recommend this place . Never any complaints..
google avatar

Janelle C.

Yelp
I ordered spring rolls. Yes they were a good portion, but it was loosely wrapped and floppy. I'll keep searching for a good Vietnamese restaurant!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Love their BUN BO HUE Cute modern asian set up with friendly staff And the owners always connect with their guest

Yelp
"Gentrified" Vietnamese is the best term to describe Sweet Basil. The food and dining experience is much different from most Vietnamese eateries I have encountered. But to be fair, you will not see the term "authentic" used anywhere at the place. I ordered the Kung Fu Wings as an appetizer. There are a half-dozen wings in a tangy glaze with a side of lettuce and picked carrots. Overall, it was quite tasty. My main course, the All-natural Pork Banh Mi is served with a side of fries and chipotle sauce! The sandwich is lightly toasted with mayo, grilled pork, peppers, picked carrots, and a wee bit of cilantro. The taste is acceptable, but not what I would expect from Banh Mi. One of the menu items is somewhat offensively named: FOB Shrimp. While it may sound tongue-in-cheek, "FOB" is a derogatory term for recently-arrived Asian immigrants. The service and atmosphere is what shines at this restaurant: the dining area is immaculate and the servers are very attentive. They serve Coca Cola products here.

Yelp
Tried Sweet Basil today and we'll definitely be back! We tried several of the popular dishes- Messy Fries, Drunken Chicken and Smoked Brisket Pho! Everything was delicious and the service was great!

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite Vietnamese & Pho spot! Great vibes, great food, great service. If you are ever in Beaumont, go here and try the hot mess fries. Will forever be visiting this place!

Yelp
I'm currently on a month-long vacation from NYC and it's been a while since I've had pho so when my mom said we're going to Beaumont and that there were going to be a few pho spots, I was super ecstatic. I've read the other Elites' reviews of this place ahead of time and I knew exactly what I wanted to get. Everyone's raving about the duck bun bao but upon sampling it, my mother and I mutually agreed that it's alright at best but not quite like how others described it. I do however, 1000% recommend the oxtail and brisket pho noodle soup. Being born and raised in a multicultural city like NYC where you can just about find any food that exists in this world, I still have yet to find a restaurant that serves oxtail pho. Sweet Basil not only has oxtail pho but the taste of it also exceeded my expectations, which was very impressive. Also, I appreciated the steps the restaurant has taken as precaution for covid. All tables were at a safe, comfortable distance apart and the staff were thorough in sanitizing tables after each use where most restaurants would've just wipe it down with a damp towel in one swipe and call it a day. Customer service was also wonderful. I would absolutely come back again next time I'm in Texas (or if I have time before I go back home) but in the meantime, I'll recommend Sweet Basil to my friends and family down here.

Yelp
One of the few spots in the Beaumont area with vegan options and it has never disappointed! We come here pretty frequently and usually end up with many things. Many of the items on their vegetarian section can be made vegan which gives you some options. Personally one of my favs is chargrilled tofu with vegetables and the spring rolls - seriously we usually order a minimum of 2 orders of those. They have always been super helpful anytime I have questions too on something being vegan or not. So definitely pay them a visit for some good food!
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
We have been here many times. We love the Pho here it is very good. We have tried most of the different Pho's on the menu I like the prime rib Pho and the wife liked the chicken the best. The seafood Pho is also very good. The spring rolls are very good also. The hot mess fries are a must try if you stop here. The place is a bit over priced but its still worth stopping by.

Laura I.

Yelp
Fresh food, delicious and great service. We come here regularly. Our favorites include the pork bao's, pho (beef meatball and one that includes steak, tripe and other meats).

Kaylyn D.

Yelp
LOVE the chicken summer rolls with the fish sauce! The service is a little slow if you go inside but always ready when you take it to go! The food is super fresh tasting and flavorful!

Yelp
I read all the reviews and am extremely confused about "not authentic Thai food" and another reviewer saying not to worry if you are nervous about eating Korean food. Actually, I do agree on both those points because it is NOT a Thai restaurant and they do not serve Thai food or Korean food. So if you were expecting Thai food and it didn't taste like Thai food - that's the reason. It is a Vietnamese Restaurant serving Vietnamese food. I think the first clue is the name Sweet Basil VIETNAMESE NOODLE HOUSE. There are no Thai dishes or Korean dishes on the menu. The dishes are all Vietnamese dishes - a few of them having an American fusion thrown in (hot mess fries - which we really enjoyed). I was born in Vietnam and I live in Houston where VN food is aplenty. We eat VN food on a nearly daily basis so I'm pretty sure I am correct stating this restaurant had authentic VN food. Overall, it was a good restaurant with good food. I took a star off for the incredibly high prices. $9 for a Banh Mi? I pay $2-$3 for a banh mi in Houston. Even if this one comes with fries, a $6 upcharge is extremely high. Taste We ordered: Hot mess fries - loved them. The sliced rib eye had good flavor. The fries were hot and crispy. Braised Duck Sweet Bun (bao vit) - my picky husband really liked them. The veggies were fresh and the pickled veggies were pickled. Shaken Beef - it was good, not the best, but good nonetheless. Very good portion size. "Pho"-Natic - the flavor was ok. The portion size was good. Like everything else on the menu, the price was high. The rare steak was well done. The brisket didn't taste good, it tasted dried out and old. I cheated on my Keto diet for the pho and it was not worth it. There goes the other star. Ambience - nice, open space. Restaurant was pretty full when we arrived and it was good to see several other Vietnamese groups dining there, showing us the food must be authentic for so many Vietnamese people to dine there. I tired of the music after 2 minutes - it was some VN instrumental music. We liked the decor and the black/white photos on the wall with the pops of color in them. Service - service was ok. We didn't really have to wait on anything. They refilled our waters in a timely manner. I just kept looking around waiting for any of the employees to smile. Never saw one. Everyone did their job but no one was warm and welcoming or friendly. My son says that makes it even more authentic! I would go there again if I am in Beaumont.
google avatar

Yelp
Second time here. Not sure why I didn't review it the first time. This place is great! Nice decor, clean and comfortable. We had grilled pork summer rolls, which were a bit bigger than we have had. And delicious! The fish sauce with the rolls was yummy. Tendon pho for me and rare beef pho for the hubs. Our test is to taste before adding anything. The broth is super. This was a stop on the way from the Houston area to Lake Charles ( casino trip!) this will be a regular stop

Yelp
For years we travel through Beaumont on our way from Austin to New Orleans and have made it a habit to eat at a Vietnamese restaurant on College blvd but on this trip (Sunday) that restaurant was closed. We searched and found Sweet Basil and are we glad we did. This is our new Beaumont stop for upcoming trips. I had the vermicelli bowl with pork and wow! This was the best tasting bowl I've ever had. Period. Noodles were soft, meat was plentiful and the sauce was a perfect blend of spices and sweetness. I just about licked the bowl. It was a bit out of the way from the main highway going east/west but so worth the diversion. The menu had lots of other items we will be trying on future trips. PS. Coming from Austin where there are TONS of Vietnamese restaurants, I can honestly say, this place ranks high in our books!

Peter C.

Yelp
Disappointed after all the good reviews on yelp. I Got the drunken chicken and it was a very small portion for the price. Probably half of what I expected(see picture below). Sauce was sort of watery but might of been since it was to go and the rice steamed it. Wife got the rib eye pho. Was blander then pho four seasons or pho sky and the meat was more grisley then expected but we also went shortly before closing so might if just been what was left. Had to add a bunch of hoisen and sricacha to make it taste better.
