We were passing through the area, making our way back to Florida, and stopped for the night in Beaumont. Looking around for a place to eat dinner after checking in at our hotel, we first went by a Vietnamese restaurant on the West side of town... but it just didn't have the right feel for us when we looked at it from the outside.
Fortunately, Sweet Basil was next on our list, and we were happy with the food and service.
Inside, it has a lot of roominess to the dining area because there is no false ceiling. This helps immensely when it comes to noise from other tables, as you do not get sound reflecting from the roof. It does give an odd feeling to your spatial awareness, however.
We started off with some dumplings and summer rolls, which were quite good except for the dipping sauce for the summer rolls... that turned out to be somewhat lacking in flavour, which was sad. Really though, that was the only low point of our experience.
We both had nice bowls of pho for our main course, and that was excellent. The serving sizes are pretty standard for a Vietnamese restaurant (I have been to many, and they all use the same size bowls for the pho).
The service was good too, and we were well taken care of. If I am back in Beaumont during the dinner hour, I will be seeking this place out again.
