Sweet Bumpas Ice Creamery Has Packed Its Scoops and Left Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Some of Seattle’s finest ice cream is no longer: the Georgetown scoop shop Sweet Bumpas had been a permanent fixture on the city’s frozen-dairy scene for about 18 months, with pastry chef-owner Matt Bumpas making his name with creative flavors like cinnamon-basil, corn cookie, and black rice and ginger after years of pop-ups and farmers-market stalls; he found a space in Equinox Studios in summer 2017 (taking over from popsicle-makers Six Strawberries) but has now closed as Bumpas is returning home to Durham, North Carolina after 18 years in Seattle and says he plans "to sweeten up the East Coast soon." - Tim Forster

Impressive Tamale Guy Pop-Up Settles in Georgetown | Eater Seattle

"At 6564 5th Ave. S., the ice cream shop shares its walk-up window with The Tamale Guy, providing a convenient spot where Garcia will sell his tamales and new maiz-based desserts during the stated hours; the arrangement turns Sweet Bumpas into a combined ice cream-and-tamales pickup location for both walk-up and online orders." - Megan Hill

I love a good cake. Absolutely love it. But it must be the right balance of buttercream and cake, sweetness and flavor, richness and simplicity. Matt and the Sweet Bumpas Cakes team know what they're doing -- they are bold with their flavors and have perfected the layered cake. Each cake (and I've ordered three) is beautiful on the outside and rich on the inside. We've loved each of them, but I was partial to the peach. So unique and delicious! Highly recommend if you want to wow your friends, or just wow yourself!

I recently ordered the Persian Lust cake from Sweet Bumpas to celebrate my birthday. The cake was so awesome (I should write this all caps). Cardamom is one of my favorite flavors - and the cake showcased that beautifully. The icing was velvety smooth and not overly sweet. This cake is the whole package – beautiful and delicious. I ordered this in a gluten free version – and it was light and fluffy – couldn’t really tell it was a gluten free cake. They have a great website with detailed descriptions of all the cakes. Can’t wait to order another cake for our next family celebration.

I first discovered Matt through a local FB foodies group and contacted him to order a custom cake for my daughter. He was always prompt in communicating and helped me pick just the right combination of flavors and textures. Little did I know, that this cake was going be one of the best cakes my family has eaten. Everything was perfect from the layers of moist and flavorful cake to the divine, but not overly sweet, vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. As a matter of fact, this cake ended up finding a permanent spot in his regular offerings. Since then, we have ordered around a half dozen cakes from Matt and his wonderful team. Each time, they blow us away. Our family has a running joke that we NEED a Sweet Bumpas cake for every celebration, big or small. We love Sweet Bumpas cakes and are so thankful to Matt, Carmen, and the rest of the SB team for making our happy moments even happier with their beautiful and tasty creations.

I've been ordering cakes from Sweet Bumpas for about a year now. From traditional vanilla and chocolate birthday cakes, to custom flavors, this is the place to get cake. The cake crumb is tender and rich; the Swiss meringue buttercream is light, airy and silky. I've ordered custom flavors that include some left-field/non-traditional ingredients: rosemary, sage, Thai basil, goat cheese and blue cheese. Every single time Matt and his team hit it out of the park. Their current offering of The Souk is excellent--orange blossom water, fennel and tahini--is just a glimmer into their highly creative talents. Whether you're a die-hard traditionalist or someone wanting to explore fun custom flavors, I highly recommend Sweet Bumpas as your next cake purchase. This is the only place in the Triangle that I order cakes from. :)

Heard great things about Sweet Bumpas cakes so I ordered one for a team member moving to Georgia. As serendipity would have it, Sweet Bumpas makes a Georgia Peach Cobbler Cake and it was SPECTACULAR! A huge hit with the team! I’ll definitely be ordering more in the future.

I drooled over the photos on the Sweet Bumpas website and Instagram feed for over a year before placing an order. Apparently I procrastinate in all areas of my life. Wish I hadn’t waited so long! These cakes are not only gorgeous, they are some of the best cakes I’ve ever tasted. The combination of the homemade lemon curd and strawberry jam on the Lemon Strawberry Reunion cake was so, so good. Matt was kind enough to let me order the Georgia cake before it was officially on the summer menu. Another winner for sure - that peach jam is perfection, especially when combined with the spiced cake. I’ve never been so happy to have leftovers. The cakes looked smaller than I expected at first glance, but looks are deceiving - these were really substantial. We were able to get 8 hefty slices from each 3-layer cake, and honestly could have easily cut it much, much smaller and still been really satisfied. I wish I had taken photos of the cakes after removing them from the boxes, but I was too excited about trying them to think of it at the time. Thank you for making my birthday celebration sweeter, Matt and Nichole. I look forward to ordering again soon!

Wow! Do yourself a favor for Fall this year and order one of the Salted Caramel Spiced Pumpkin cakes from Sweet Bumpas! I have loved every cake I have ever gotten from them, but this one is might be my favorite! The salted caramel buttercream compliments the pumpkin spice cake perfectly and the crispy gingersnap streusel is a delightful finishing touch. Autumn time perfection! Thank you Matt and Nichole for another magnificent creation!

This unique, delicious birthday cake for our daughter came from Sweet Bumpas's kitchen last month. Our daughter and friends - who love to travel - enjoyed the flavors of this Souk cake. I'm amazed at the flavors and delicate decorations on this Moroccan-flavored cake. "Inside you'll find layers of burnt honey, toasted fennel & orange blossom cake surrounded by orange marmalade and a nutty tahini Swiss buttercream. To seal the deal, we drizzle our homemade burnt honey caramel and adorn with toasted sesame and candied orange peel." Matt Bumpas created this fabulous treat! Thank you! We'll be back to try other cakes soon!
