My wife ordered for me and my first thought was why did I do that.... oh how I was so wrong.. I am going to take you all on a journey that defies sheer logic and time, even stepping into another dimension of my visit here at Sweet Heart.
Let me start off by saying I will only review a place of food if it is either mind blowingly good or uncannily bad. I don't do in between because who has time for mediocre eats? No one does, so stop eating at Pizza Hut because its straight trash. Now back to the story.
My meal begins like any other family going out somewhere would, you want to enjoy what you eat and this place had decent reviews, plus it was close to where we were and that was pretty much the defining factor at this point. My wife is a connoisseur of things like vegetables, and plants and all that stuff that I personally feel we could all live without.
I knew that if I let her order though, my marriage would be happier and I would probably live longer as she tends to pick the healthier options when we do dine out. She said we would get a salad (barf) another side (which she was favoring the golden beets, also didn't sound appetizing) and then the pizza special. Each of these will now have their own dissertation.
Let's start with the Squash Salad. I was super reluctant to even try this. like who thinks to put squash in a freaking salad? Isn't a salad messed up enough as it is? Ha... as I was blankly staring out into the streets of Portland watching the people freeze out in the wind my hand had been stabbing at some tender arugula mixed with almonds, butter nut squash, balsamic and what imagined to be the only thing holding this salad together, parmesan. IF you have ever seen Dr. Strange you will know what I am talking about when the Ancient One touches his head and BAM he is off in all crazy part of the known and unknown universe? Yeah it got my attention like that. Every flavor in that salad was in such great harmony that I tenderly held the bowl after it was gone wishing that I could eat it all again, and again, and again. The tender arugula, the crunch of the chopped almonds, the perfection of the squash chunks and drizzle of balsamic, equally yoked with parm.. Seriously whoever created this must be some form of a being from another planet..OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD.
Next we talk about gold. Golden beets of course. Now, I like beets and ill eat them at home as often as I can, we have even pickled beet (a favorite of mine) and so, why not? But I hesistated.. goat cheese... not a huge fan. To me it tastes like dirt, or outside earthy garbage, so reluctantly I tried them as well. I am salivating thinking about those delectable pickled golden gems of goodness smothered in a pesto dressing and garnished with the finest goat cheese that has ever been created. Those flavors together got me to actually enjoy and rethink goat cheese. I hated it before and this..this was just out of control good. 5 stars for this amazing creation of pure awesome.
Finally the pizza. The creation of the day the Carciofo. However you spell it I am sure in some other language it means delicious. I am not new to open fire pizza and some people make it better than others for sure. This place does it well. The special we got because my wife loves artichoke hearts and this had it, along with katamala olives, aged mozz and other delectable toppings that were equal to nothing short of great. Hats off to you well organized cookers of deliciousness.
In short, don't even read any other reviews, go have a good time, indulge
your senses (all of them) into a world (and out of this world) experience that is sure to get your Sweet Heart on your good side for date night. Unless your are single, but even then its still really good and worth it.
