Sweet Home Gelato

Gelato on the Riverwalk was lovely! I had the salted caramel and an Oreo cookie gelato both were really delicious but I was in Greece and Italy recently and there is no comparison.

We had a gelato cart from Sweet Home Gelato at our wedding, and it was an absolute hit! It added such a fun and memorable twist to the evening. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about it. The gelato itself was great. Every flavor we chose was rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. It was the perfect sweet note to end the night on, and we’re so glad we included it in our celebration. Highly recommend Sweet Home Gelato for any special event. You won’t regret it!

I got Pineapple gelato and it was so bad. It tasted like freezer burn with paper. I couldn’t taste a single hint of pineapple at all. My last visit was so good though. Disappointed.

Looking for ice cream we run into sweet home gelato and we ordered the Nutella flavor, simply delicious 😋, staff was very friendly and the location right next to the river just the best… ☀️ 🐠 💦

The gelato is okay, but the service is unfortunately not (feels like the employees don't really want to be there). Masks are required in order to order. There is some outdoor seating (tables and seats) although there are other places to seat on the promenade.

The Black Cherry gelato/sherbert (I don't remember which one it was) was amazing! We discovered this place on accident but we'll definitely be coming back on purpose! Perfect place to sit and watch Art on the Mart.

Overall, I enjoyed the cookies & cream gelato I ordered at Sweet Home Gelato! However, in hindsight, I feel like I should have gone for different flavors, maybe ones that are more unique here. The location is perfect for sitting down, feeling relaxed, or taking it to go so you can enjoy the Chicago riverwalk ☺️

I was walking around the riverwalk, and wanted to have a coffee. So stopped by this place. They only had la colombe coffee can. But that was a good strong coffee. I also went for a 2 scoop gelato. Nutella was my favorite flavor. Pineapple was my other flavor. That was good as well.

Hard to turn down the sweet siren call of gelato on the Riverwalk with the sun setting in the background. However, this... just wasn't that good. It wasn't busy and they have a no samples policy, so my girls both took a chance on something and neither of them liked what they got. That backfired. The prices are a bit jacked up to fit the touristy vibe of the shop. The gelato was fine, tasted like a chain. We had some from another spot a few nights later (a local Italian spot called Bongiorno's not too far away) that was 10 times better -- definitely worth going that way for some gelato IMO. So yeah, fell for a bit of a tourist trap, it happens, but I wouldn't come back here.

I was glad to see a gelato spot on the riverwalk. We got chocolate and coffee flavors. Chocolate was great and coffee didn't have much coffee flavor unfortunately

This place offers some delicious gelato right on the riverwalk. While there is not a lot of seating in front of the restaurant, there is a ton of room to sit down nearby. Overall if you're interested in some delicious dessert and be entertained by boats going by, visit this place.

Tourist spot. Bought couple different gelato which tasted so so. Good location to grab something sweet for kids along the River Walk tho.

Very delicious Gelato and the Riverwalk is such a fun place to be. I only wish they had a seating area open in front the day I was there but there are many other spaces to sit available along the river. Prices are high but not exorbitant given the location. Will def be back!

The one time I came here with some friends, the line was super long, which is fine, but the workers there waited until people were at the front to let us know they were out of all but one flavor. By the time we were first in line, all the flavors were sold out. However, the staff never informed anyone in line of this. While I understand inventory is not on them, communication that flavors were selling out would have been much appreciated. Definitely better gelato and ice cream options in the city.

Very good gelato, good quality, priced fairly. Just wish they had more flavors at a single time.

This gelato place is located conveniently on the riverfront and has some outdoor seating that is relatively empty. The flavors taste realistically like fruit, but the texture is super strange. It's super airy and doesn't really taste like gelato at all. We got the Pineapple and Peach. The flavor was good but really didn't vibe with the texture. It's $7 for two scoops, and they smash both scoops into half of a cup flat. Doesn't look like a lot, but is enough to share between two people. The flavors themselves are pretty limited though, it's like either fruit or basic chocolate/mint. Also doesn't serve any tap water - they said they're not allowed to, which is super strange.

Sweet Home Gelato is an adorable, open-air shop along the Chicago River. The staff seemed completely bored and disinterested in helping us, but their selection of interesting flavors was truly tempting. I ended up with a cup of the Dark Chocolate Sorbet, which was a bit too hard and icy. However, the flavor was rich, decadent, and delicious!

Strategically placed outside a splash pad where my children were playing and it was a hot day, so couldn't resist the temptation. But Sweet Home Gelato also delivered the goods. Awesome gelato that was creamy and refreshing flavors. My blackberry and mango were fabulous.

Strolling around the river walk, came upon this hidden little desert bar. My friends and I got just what we were looking to satisfy aft our sweet tooth.

This place is not good. Honest. It's mediocre gelato at extremely high prices. Cost me almost 8$ for a "large" which is about the size of your first.. also literally heard the scooper try to give us samples and the other lady was like "no only 2 samples per person"- also we had gotten 0 samples before this. And then she goes "change it to 1 sample per person" wtf..? Isn't this way too harsh, for an undeserving place too. Ridiculous

It's overpriced gelato. For the price I expect better, larger amounts, or at least more or unique flavor options. This was from last summer. While it's wonderful to have this option right on the River Walk and makes it more attractive to tourists strolling by and exploring the city, it is too expensive.

Walking along Riverwalk & stopped for something sweet. Had chocolate and cookies & cream gelato with side of root beer. It was tasty stop on a warm day along the river in Chicago. Must be a new place since they had zero reviews.

As my girlfriends and I were kayaking, we could smell the sweet aroma of the gelato on the river! On our way back towards Michigan Avenue, we decided to stop and grab gelato. When we were arriving to the stand, the line in front seemed pretty long, but is fast moving! The small is a pretty reasonable size and if you get a large you can try two different flavors, which is exactly what I did! I ended up ordering the salted caramel and s'more, and both were phenomenal! I happened to come across this place by chance and will definitely be returning! Cashier and server were very sweet!

Nice addition to the Riverwalk, especially the water fountain out front that kids love to splash in. It does rob space from the possible seating area, but maybe they put seats out when it's not so hot. Not going to lie, the prices here are really high for gelato, even for my touristy neighborhood. You can save more money by going to Eataly or Amorino, but then you're eating inside an air-conditioned building and not right beside the water. Didn't mind throwing in a couple of bucks for a tip since these young folks were working outside in brutally hot conditions with just a fan. Still, the flavors were very refreshing, not sticky or cloying. Had the strawberry and the mango. Both delicious. Perfect balance between milky and icy. They didn't have a huge selection of flavors--maybe one dozen flavors total--but what a lifesaver from the heat. Welcome to the Riverwalk, Sweet Home Gelato!

Ours were updated a week ago saying they close at 10, however we got here at 9:02 on Saturday night and the guy was already packing up some of the hours on yelp wrong.

Doesn't taste good and overpriced. They also run out of things quickly, okay service. Convenient location but walk like a block further on the river walk and there's a better place just like it.

Loved this place! We were visiting Chicago this last weekend and wanted to find a good place to eat some gelato, and we were glad to discover this joint. Heads up, the place is confusing to get to if you haven't been to Chicago before. Google maps will confuse you, just remember to go downstairs near the water from the Chicago Riverwalk bridge. Anyway, I got the hazelnut gelato and it was exquisite! It was creamy, light and perfect. I ate it by the water and it was nice to enjoy a view with my frozen treat. I also sampled the mango as well and that was also nice, tasted more like sorbet than gelato though. The service was pleasant and professional. I'll def be back when I'm in Chicago again.

We went here twice it was that good. Great view of the river. We had the lemon sorbet, raspberry sorbet, root beer float and stratiatella gelato.

It seems that this establishment is rather new to the Riverwalk, which is a great thing that the area is attracting so many new businesses:) The gelato was very tasty and reasonably priced. I took off a star since service is rather slow, and not the most courteous

Visiting on a mini vacation with my family from the Bay Area and this place is a must! Delicious Gelato! Tried the lemon which was my favorite as well as the cookies and cream..... yummy

My husband and son love this place. It's a bit of a distance from our house but whenever we are in Naperville or anywhere close, we have to stop by. We've gone to several other local ice cream spots and none of them compare.

super convenient location right across from the riverwalk. the employees here are super efficient so the line moves fast. in terms of flavor and what you get for the price i give it 5 stars. they fill up the cup entirely which i love since most gelato/ice cream places just put a scoop. definitely will be back frequently

Please do consider booking Sweet Home Gelato for your wedding! Each flavor offered is incredibly tasty. The pricing is extremely fair for catering and much more affordable compared to other vendors. My wedding was scheduled for August 8,2020. But due to Covid-19, we unfortunately had to cancel. Janice was extremely compassionate, understanding and flexible during the whole process. Sweet Home Gelato was the most compassionate and flexible vendor. It is not easy to cancel a wedding, unfortunately many vendors were not as accommodating. Janice immediately offered a refund, date change or gift card for the deposit. Sweet Home Gelato was under no circumstance required to issue a refund. Please do consider supporting this small business that is run by good people!

Stumbled on to this place while walking along the river one day and it is an absolute gem!! Reasonably priced and every flavor they have is great. Not to mention that you get a great view to enjoy your gelato!

WOW - Where to start. AVOID AVOID AVOID! The gelato is OVERPRICED and was not even traditional. I have been to Italy multiple times, and this product didn't even come close, probably because the ingredients are of cheap quality. I purchased a double scoop of gelato in a cone and it was $10.00!! In addition, when I asked politely for a plastic spoon, the manager declined. Apparently, "the spoons are only for people who order floats", despite the fact that there was a bucket within arms reach filled with literally hundreds of spoons. I asked the manager, "so let me get this right, I just paid $10 for an ice cream cone and you wont give me a plastic spoon?!" I couldn't believe her response and attitude. Clearly the management at Sweet Home Gelato is poorly trained and knows nothing about customer service. I WILL NOT RETURN AND HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU FIND ANOTHER PLACE! Sweet Home Gelato is located on river walk and is a TOURIST TRAP. PS: To the Manager who said "no spoon for you" - learn the basics of customer service and reviews like this won't happen in the future.
