"It’s been a journey for Sweet Lady Jane, the local chain of bakeries founded by Jane Lockhart in 1988 that closed in 2023 and came back from the brink in 2024. Now under the steady leadership of Julie Ngu, the CEO of Pacific French Bakery, Angelenos can dependably get their fill of Sweet Lady Jane’s beloved Triple Berry cake. The three-layer creation made of yellow butter cake filled with lightly sweetened whipped cream and a trio of fresh berries is available by the slice or as a whole cake. — Cathy Chaplin, senior editor" - Cathy Chaplin, Eater Staff

I have loved Sweet lady Jane and their triple berry cake for years, but the quality has gone down so much in the last year. This was my first time buying the cake at the Beverly Hills location, I got three slices of the cake and they were dry and the cake was cracking when I opened the box. This cake wasn’t fresh at all. The Berry Chantilly cake from wholefoods seems like a better option after tasting this. I really hope Sweet Lady Jane goes back to their former standards.

Google
I love their cakes so much!!! Amazing service and such special deserts. And ever since they got new owners, it’s been way upgraded and better than before. Much love to the sweet lady team!!!

The Banana Pudding jar is delicious! Besides that, ordered a yellow cake cupcake 🧁 on the side. Bummed about that experience as I had asked the gal at the counter what type of frosting topper it was, she said it was buttercream. It didn’t look like buttercream but I trusted her because of all people, she would know, right? Anyways, she was wrong, it was regular, thin and mediocre, grocery store frosting. Cake was dry too. What a waste.

Amazing! My daughter is at UCLA for summer and I wanted to surprise her and send her a birthday cake - Barbie related and you delivered! Delicious and so cute - also was very reasonably priced! 💕💕💕 It made her day and that was the goal! Thank you! Will be ordering soon and will def be in when we get to town! Huge thank you!

kayla was so nice and inviting. The other ladies there are super cool and everyone is really helpful. They have really cute birthday candles and party hats 🥳

Google
Very disappointed by the Triple Berry Cake that I ordered yesterday for my son’s birthday. It looked completely unfinished with very little decorations and just few cut fruits on top of the whipped cream. I was told it is the new design and that the green buttercream vines and big whole fresh strawberries that were making this cake so beautiful are no longer part of the decorations. I ordered it on Uber Eats and they still had photos and descriptions of the old design. I was surprised that what I got was not matching what was advertised on Uber Eats. The cake is still delicious, at least they haven’t changed the recipe.

Stopped in here to get my husbands favorite triple berry cake yesterday. Victoria was a true Queen! She was so helpful and thoughtful, even though I was rushing. She makes this location my favorite to stop in to even it’s it’s for some La Colombe Coffee! Victoria if you’re reading this, we appreciate you!

The best service by Jenny and the lemon bars are super delicious!! Very clean and vibrant atmosphere! Definitely try them out!

Yelp
Tough location to find, even tougher finding parking nearby. Nestled alongside Maude and Starbucks and an art gallery, this location is a bit more spacious than the (former) Melrose location. S Reeves Dr is parallel to Beverly and has 1-hr parking on one side if you don't mind the short walk. Otherwise, try your luck with the meters. I have my go-to cakes that I always get: triple berry or vanilla cream, and both are amazing! Service was great so I will definitely visit this location again. Jenny (?) helped and was very sweet and friendly.

Yelp
The hype is real. The OG triple berry cake is to die for. A lot of places make this cake, but SLJ's is one of the best, hands down. I've had the NY cheesecake and the Beverly from here too, and both are super luxurious, decadent, and rich! Very good if you are ready to not regret anything and go all out treating yourself lol, but the triple berry is always so light and refreshing. Great for all occasions! The triple berry also can be eaten cold (and should always be cold) bc of its soaked nature (it won't ever be dry!). Ugh I dream about it all the time! This location is small. A few small tables, and all the beautiful cakes on display inside. Parking is on the street and the store can be hard to miss if you're not paying attention! The service is always impeccable at every location though. I absolutely love that you can buy the cakes by the slice. They even were so generous and threw in an extra slice near closing time as they don't want to waste product!

Yelp
For me this cache was too buttery outside. It is not sweet inside, great taste for me for the biscuit and fruits . I also had birthday cake, it was very very sweet for me . For now I'll rate 3, but I will change my review after trying chocolate one They have delivery service, which is great, and stuff always welcoming in store

Yelp
I've always had triple berry cake for my birthday.. but this year we were not happy and might not come back here to get my cake anymore. My family and especially I were excited SLJ opened its doors again.. but we were all disappointed with the cake. It was dense and Dry.. and the buttercream like.. No. As a loyal sweet lady jane customer you can definitely tell the difference at first bite and the quality is long gone. Sad sad sad! Because sweet lady Jane has always been wonderful memories for me.

Yelp
Sweet Lady Jane's is my ultimate favorite bakery of all times. I came here to cake taste for a wedding cake and they had the perfect sampler collection of cakes served in a jar if the slices were out. I became a new fan of their Chocolate Triple Berry Shortcake although the OG Triple Berry Shortcake will always be my first love. I liked this Beverly Hills location. Cute and quaint and has a mini sitting area too.

Yelp
If you are looking for the perfect birthday cake, look no further. We got to celebrate my grandpa's 87th birthday this weekend with 2 decadent Triple Berry cakes from Sweet Lady Jane, and he absolutely loved it! Haha we got to sing twice and do the sparklers on the cake twice because two cakes ;) Our whole family enjoyed the fresh cream which was perfectly sweetened, as well as three-tiered seasonal fruit layers - strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Simple, fluffy, and delicious!

Sandra W.

Yelp
I never ever experienced a chocolate cake so bad that I had to drink water to wash my mouth out. Then took a bite of the Chocolate salted Brownie and literally threw up. This is the worst experience of sweets I've ever EVER had. Not worth the $20 for the slice of cake and brownie. Took a bottle of Listerine to rinse my mouth and gargle.

Jean F.

Yelp
I love the fact that every thing is fresh Staff was fantastic over the phone and in person super helpful even when their super busy they let you know they appreciate while waiting & they appreciate your business outstanding service. I had a personal request for my order & Alexander was super helpful made my day. I love most the fresh whip cream & the blueberries. Thanks for going above & beyond the best birthday cake ever much love always for your for being part of every one's families memories

Yelp
Such a great place. The service was so welcoming and kind. The parking was easy to secure out front and it was metered. The cake. Let's get into this addicting cake. It's so layered but it's not heavy. It feels like your eating clouds. It's not overly sweet and it's really just right. I love the 3 layered berry cake. And the packaging is just as cute. It's a cute little gem but I've never dined there and always do take out. Give them a try and I want to taste more of their desserts but the three layer berry just never disappoints

Alisa B.

Yelp
A coworker of mine raved about the cakes here! Definitely big price tags, but the cakes are so cute. I'm not sure if it was the best cake I've had, but it was definitely a delicious cake. Nice fluffy texture, the cream wasn't too sweet, and the fruit was very sweet + fresh! It was a hefty cake! If you have some cash to spend on a nice cake, I recommend the Triple Berry Cake.

Candy B.

Yelp
The triple berry cake my fav for over twenty years has changed! The cake is very dense, the berries are not ripe and placed between very dry pieces of cake. Some layers were missing icing. The nostalgia of the old cake is gone the decorating was neon green with pale berries in top. Not worth $120! RIP

Angela C.

Yelp
Nice bakery with beautiful cakes. It's located right next to the Public Parking lot. There are a couple tables and a table top you can enjoy your desserts at. They have a couple paintings on the wall for sale. In addition to cakes, they offer brownies, coconut macaroons, bars, cookies, and rugelach. We got a slice of the Beverly cake, the Triple Berry cake, cherry pie, and pumpkin cranberry pound cake. The cakes are decent: the flavor is nice, but a bit on the dry side. The pie we did not enjoy at all. The crust wasn't buttery and flaky, but rather dense and hard. My favorite was actually the pound cake. Service could be better. The guy helping us wasn't welcoming and couldn't even pretend to crack a smile. It was very transactional and I'm sure we must've pissed him off when we decided to stay and enjoy our desserts in the shop. People like him should not be in customer service...it's depressing to interact with someone who always looks mad. Glad I tried it, but have had better cakes at other places for less.

Joan W.

Yelp
Meticulously clean bakery shop where every cake on display can be purchased by the slice. Their Mixed Berry Cake had lots of fresh fruit between layers of tender yellow cake with just enough whipped cream pulling it all together. If you are familiar with whole paycheck's Chantilly cake, this is a slightly more polished, leaner cousin. I love whipped cream and would have liked even more between the layers of cake. Their pumpkin pie had a great balance of crust to pumpkin custard. Not too sweet and just a hint of cinnamon to help warm up the pumpkin. There's also a modest selection of cookies & brownies. Want to try those next.

VN J.

Yelp
Are you kidding? This bakery is EVERYTHING! It's another one of my happy places. Be warned though; it's addicting. I recommend the berry cake and the fruit tarts. I've been to a whole lot of outstanding bakeries but the fruit tarts here are second to none. I happy Jane has expanded to more than just one location! (I admire Jane and her delightful husband's business acumen as well.)

Yelp
Ordered a Triple Berry Cake for my Mother's 95th birthday. When unpacking it to light candles I noticed a long hair embedded in the cake. I took a picture, called the store and spoke to Alison who gave me their email address to send the picture. Alison received the picture and stated the hair wasn't from anyone in her store. I was totally shocked by her response. She offered me another cake but I declined. She was not apologetic and reluctantly offered me a refund, which I gladly accepted. It put a damper on our celebration for sure. Yuck

Yelp
Well, as usual, SWEET LADY JANE didn't let me down. I wanted a slice of cake and got a slice of coconut. It was deliciously good.... Thanks again for keeping the recipe the same....My cake was PERFECT..... The Beverly Hills location parking is crazy but worth it...

Rachel M.

Yelp
Probably one of the biggest let downs in a long time for me. I've followed this bakery on social media for a while after having them promoted by a celebrity. Their cakes look so good!! So on my day off I finally made it to one of them and yeah. The cake did not taste good. I got triple berry my friend got red velvet. The cake had whipped frosting which was sad because I was expecting buttercream for some reason. And the actual cake part of it tasted old like it wasn't fresh. And this was on both of our slices of cake. The store was really clean and the staff were so friendly and sweet. Maybe in the future I'll try something from them again but probably not soon.

Shene C.

Yelp
The slice of cake is half of what they use to give. My bf didn't check it until hours after buying; what a disappointment as he got it for my birthday

Tovan T.

Yelp
Great cake and desserts. Triple berry cake is the way to go. Good service. The only thing that's rough is parking during the day. It's a busy neighborhood.

Michelle B.

Yelp
This is the first bakery I have ever walked into that smelled bad, like no baked goods smell at all. It honestly smelled like somebody farted a few minutes before I walked in with my friend. The people were nice enough, but seemed kind of sad they had to be there. The banana pudding is made for people who don't like banana pudding and want to mask it with chocolate pudding. It barely had any banana flavor and some bland cake with chocolate pudding. Don't get it if you like banana pudding. The tiramisu has the lightest coffee flavor of any tiramisu I've ever had, but it's at least decent. If you're craving tiramisu, go elsewhere. The two were $24 and both mediocre at best. Just go to a real bakery that isn't a chain because it was so disappointing.

Max P.

Yelp
I was looking forward to trying their cake. We couldn't quite put or finger on what was wrong but the sponge on the Beverley cake was dry and crumbly. The filling and frosting was overall ok but a little sweet.

Iplyruf I.

Yelp
The hype is just that. The cakes are good but the ego pricing leaves an awful taste in one's mouth. They just aren't worth the $$$$$. They may be pretty and tasty but not worth $100+. Maybe they're making up for low attendance with higher pricing but the extreme pricing is keeping many away.

Henri V.

Yelp
Revising my previous review. Turns out the negative experience I had written about was with the maintenance/janitorial person closing up the cake shop and she was dismissive because she was unknowledgeable about the shop and products...I still think she should have explained it to me that way. The following days during the week, I have popped in to purchase a slice of various flavors of cakes. The two staffers were pleasant, cordial and very helpful...like sunshine, smiley face and rainbows nice to Me and Fendi. They even gifted me a slice of their raspberry cheesecake for me to try. I'm a big fan of the vanilla triple Berry cake and the cheesecake raspberry was fromage decadent and not overly sweet but yummy. With such a nice gesture and sweet service, I am so looking forward to more frequent visits here and so should you, recommend!

Harvey W.

Yelp
Got the triple berry cake in gluten free version. I have to say, nobody noticed. Everybody was amazed at how good it was. Don't be afraid of gluten-free, it works!

Vito K.

Yelp
Got another delicious birthday from my favorite bakery in Los Angeles this year. I've had their carrot cake before but this one was a little different. Not much flavor and too much icing. Was good but definitely could have been better.

Grace W.

Yelp
I got cakes from here for my birthday and it made my day. They're super sweet, lots of sugar for sure but good and the presentation is beautiful, gorgeous. These cakes are pricey for a reason because they're not cheap supermarket desserts, they feel and look gourmet! The frosting, the filling, the cake itself are all fresh and it does feel like they make them daily. Would recommend getting cakes here for parties, graduation, Mother's Day, etc. loved my cake from here!!!

Alejandro B.

Yelp
Love the cakes here. Super tasty but I'll admit, they are a little expensive. But I still enjoy coming here because the quality is top notch and the employees here are always super friendly. And I love how nicely they always write on the cakes. Thanks you guys!!

Samira S.

Yelp
Ambiance: sometimes I come here on the weekends for coffee and dessert, after lunch. I have been to several of their locations, including melrose, Montana and Beverly Hills. Desserts: pretty much everything that I have tried has been super tasty I've gotten their three layer berry cakes for friends birthdays and my own. The brownie is one of the tastiest and most delicious chocolatey greatness I have tried. Their chocolate to chocolate chip to softness and tastiness ratio for a brownie makes it superior. Parking: either meters on the streets or the Beverly hulls city parking recommended.

Jenna M.

Yelp
Extremely disappointing visit. This was my first time in a few years and I've never been to this location, I came in to buy desserts for a birthday party to find that staff were not educated on products - pricing, offerings, etc. The gal who assisted me lacked enthusiasm (and knowledge). If I'm paying $70 for a small round cake I expect better service, and quite honestly better desserts. The tart was okay, cheesecake okay, cupcakes dry. Far from what I remember.

Aaron C.

Yelp
The manager Alison was absolutely fantastic! She set the tone for other bakeries in LA county. Not only did she show professionalism, but she displayed kindness and helped me pick out the right cake for my party. I was visiting from Orange County based upon a referral to this particular location. I was throughly impressed and was not let down. Kudos to Alison and her team. It does not go unnoticed. Additionally, I love the sea salt brownies. Lastly, I felt extremely safe in this COVID world. They held a high standard when it came to cleanliness.

Mandy M.

Yelp
I had the Beverly Cake. It was the best creation in the sweet food category I have had in the US, in the last 28 years. Wasn't absolutely perfect, but pretty close to heaven, a lot of flavors, layers, great harmony, not too sweet, not too heavy, high quality ingredients, especially the chocolate, clearly an amazing experience that shows dedication, talent and some bravery - to stay away from the horror of the American icing, frosting, sugar overload and complete lack of flavors in any cake from Alabama to Washington, and the utter disregard of simple and proven recipes from Central Europe.

A K.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place given the limited options for great cake shops in LA. The workers were nice (and offered an extra slice of cake on the house), but that could not make up for the very average cakes. The triple berry cake was easily my favorite slice. The Beverly cake and the dark chocolate cake were both dry and lackluster. This seems like a place to pick up food to go, rather than a place to hang out. Not super motivated to dry out here again.

Carolyn K.

Yelp
Really great cakes and cookies. I've been going to the melrose location for years. I'm so glad they opened up one in Beverly Hills that's closer to me.

Milena W.

Yelp
Got the Triple Berry Cake for a birthday and it was a hit! It was delicious & not too sweet, plus they wrote her name on it

Adriana A.

Yelp
This cake was delicious, not overly sweet just perfect amount of sweetness for a baby shower. It was beautiful and everyone at the shower enjoyed it. We will definitely try the the berries cake in the near future.

Justin C.

Yelp
Don't wish to do this, and not a fan of one star reviews, but it echoes all of the other one star reviews posted on this shop.. Staff seemed miserable, and the one lady with blonde hair and glasses had quite the attitude. Don't want to get into the details, but won't be going back strictly due to customer service.. yikes

Doreen K.

Yelp
Shared a flourless cake with a friend. It was not nice at all. It tasted like mud. Sweet mud. It was dense bitter and dry. I was very surprised because I had previously eating their chocolate cake and it was acceptable. Place was nice and, clean, staff not too friendly. The cake was dense bitter and, more like fudge cookies.

Jimmy Z.

Yelp
To start off with went there on a Sunday and the Sunday morning staff seems pretty miserable and angry at the world... The dirty blonde with wide shoulders was the worst... she was giving attitude to everyone there... especially customers who didn't speak English very well... But beyond that, everything we bought was grossly mediocre... no joke I have tasted way better bakery items from the local Ralph's supermarket than this place... totally felt ripped afterwards... Oh and I'm seriously angry Yelp won't allow me to give them zero stars just for the bias behavior of the dirty blonde girl working there on September 5, 2021

Alice A.

Yelp
Came in right before closing at the Beverly Hills location to pick up some slices today. I called my friend quickly to confirm the flavor of cake he wanted while I browsed the display. The kid working behind the counter was so unfriendly and obviously was annoyed to help me. I was not in there for long and decided very quickly, but he had this attitude that was so unpleasant. I felt bad for coming in so last minute and even tipped on top of my purchase, but he did not even smile or say bye when I said thank you and left. Not a great representation of a bakery with such great products.

Joana L.

Yelp
as always the triple berry is always a top fave. gifted to a friend's birthday and their first time having it and they loved it sooo much. it's definitely recommended all the time. cake jars are amazing too

Marilyn F.

Yelp
I love this place! The staff is friendly and their desserts are absolutely delicious. This is my go to for birthday cakes. I highly recommend the triple berry cake. It's beautiful and tastes amazing! The manager, Alison, is extremely professional and helpful!

Lynn A.

Yelp
Very disappointed in the product and the service today'. Unfriendly counter staff, no hello, not even a smile & didn't listen to what I was ordering. The very small cookies that are $2 each are a joke. Tasted stale and definitely not worth that price. Sad to see this bakery expand to another location and be so awful and overpriced.

Denise I.

Yelp
Sweet Lady Jane, The BEST cakes ever made.. The Triple Berry Cake is my absolute favorite.

Megan G.

Yelp
I'm so glad I found the Sweet Lady Jane store in Beverly Hills as I love the sea salt brownies. I came in the other day and the girls helping up front were so nice and provided great service. Looking forward to coming back to try more treats as they all looks delicious.

Tom M.

Yelp
Hate to do this but being a new location you'd think they would be a little nicer. I walked up with my dog to pick up an ordered cake and forgot my mask. Not a walk back to the car thing so I asked her if she could bring it out. No one was in the store, and she was very abrupt with no mask no talking. So I walked up a few stores to find a nicer store who gave me one. Ya think for a place that sells a $60 cake they could offer @ 10cent mask. Or be a little more accommodating. Last time at Sweet Lady Jane.

Cat C.

Yelp
This review has been a long time coming. Last November I had an issue with my cake order and it was quickly and efficiently addressed by their general manager Alison. I truly appreciated her professionalism and that of her staff who make a mean latte!

Nadia K.

Yelp
Love love this place and happy they opened the location in my neighborhood on Beverly Drive. My favorite of course 3 berry cake or I forgot the name . But it's the best . And also recommend to try their berrymisu dessert in a jar . It's just a heaven .

Pierce R.

Yelp
The cheesecake was gorgeous and delicious! The staff was pleasant and the cake was ready earlier than promised.

Shea K.

Yelp
The berry cake is delicious, such a great option for a birthday cake! It is decorated beautifully as well. Highly recommend!
