For the price you pay at this bakery, Sweet Life isn't that bad. In fact, I like coming here.
I generally come just for the bread, and like the Irish brown bread and brioche the most. The brown bread is rustic and very hearty. A slice of that will keep you filled. The brioche, while could use a bit more butter and egg, is a good value. A small brioche a tete for 50 cents is bargain (two are good for a light breakfast). The brioche comes in different sizes, and they're pretty well-priced as well. The pain de mie is standard bread...nothing special.
I've had the apricot and raspberry cookies and both are good filling, while having a moist cookie. The cupcakes are fine, though aren't really my favorites.
For lunch, I did enjoy the chicken salad on brioche. The chicken salad was simple and didn't have all the fanciness that a Waldorf has, which is fine with me. Apples, grapes, and walnuts should not be in a chicken salad. The chicken and dumplings soup was warm, hearty, full of chicken and dumplings, along with vegetables.
Table service is good, while counter service for baked goods is inconsistent. One day, you'll have prompt service at the counter, the next you'll be waiting 5 minutes even though there is no one in front of you. You'll be wondering if everyone disappeared into the bread abyss.
I'll try brunch sometime when I get the chance. Underrated bakery...but needs a website.
