Sweet Lorraine’s, One of Portland’s Few Remaining Jewish Delis, Has Closed - Eater Portland

"This week, Portland’s dwindling Jewish deli scene was dealt another blow as the mom-and-pop operation Sweet Lorraine’s closed permanently on Sunday, May 26. Owners Aaron Tomasko and Rachel Brashear announced the closure in an Instagram post. They started Sweet Lorraine’s as a food cart in 2021 — selling latkes, kugel, rugelach, and black-and-white cookies — but faced numerous hurdles associated with operating a food business in Portland’s post-COVID dining landscape." - Janey Wong

Where to Find Hanukkah Fixings Across Portland in 2022

"This Albina food cart specializes in latkes, so Hanukkah tends to be its busiest time of the year. Sweet Lorraine’s offers crispy, golden latkes by the half-dozen or dozen, gluten-free or not, with the requisite accompaniments of applesauce and sour cream. Plus, the shop offers other classic Hanukkah staples, like Israeli filled doughnuts known as sufganiyot, savory noodle kugel, and kasha varnishkes. Order them all online." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

I’ve been here twice and was delighted both trips. The first visit I had the seasonal knish with mashed sweet potato, Brie, and dried cherries, which was phenomenal. The Brie melted and drizzled down the sides, and it was a lovely fall flavor. A touch of sweetness with your savory. I had the latkes the second time around, and tried all three flavors. They were all great, but I particularly enjoyed the spinach and feta. The kale salad is also a wonderful light side. Staff is friendly and kind. Go check this place out!

Wandered in on a whim and OMG, this is the deli food your Bubby misses from her childhood. The knishes? Amazing. The sandos? Unbelievable. We got a whitefish sandwich and a breakfast special, both were great. Going to come back soon with all the friends. :)

Didn't realize how much I missed this food until I had a taste. The knish with spicy brown mustard was excellent, lighter than I remember Yonah Schimmel's if that's possible. And the noodle kugel, better than any I have ever had, chocolate babka as good as it looks, moist and flavorful. Already looking forward to coming again!

This is the third time I've had this food since moving into their new space. I can't express how delicious everything has been. The time and care they put into everything they make is impressive.

This place came recommended by family while visiting town. The food is extremely authentic. Reminded me of my great-grandmother's cooking. Better to go a little earlier because they may run out!

My lunch of a Knish with a Cherry Lime Rickey was delicious. The side of Kasha Vanishkes was a highlight of the meal. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!

Stumbled upon this place completely by accident and I’m so glad we did! We had several small children in tow and we felt so comfortable. Food was absolutely delicious (we had latkes, breakfast plates with lox and cucumber salad, and matzo ball soup), owners and staff were lovely, and the vibe was super relaxed and fun. They have high chairs (of course) and changing tables and huge bonus points for having infant diapers in the bathroom! If you’re shopping at Cargo just down the block, anywhere in the neighborhood, or even if you’re not, Sweet Lorraine’s is worth a visit. Can’t wait to go back.

Great food! I had the knish with mushrooms and onions and a cherry like Ricky to drink. I can't get over how amazing the dish was!
