"Owned by chef Karen Patton, this cozy and congenial Stone Mountain restaurant serves a wide selection of vegetable-driven dishes, with the humble sweet potato as the star attraction. The fried green tomatoes are also a must. For people looking for a great fish fry on Fridays, make a beeline for Sweet Potato Cafe." - Beth McKibben, Sarra Sedghi

"With a simple menu, fresh ingredients, and a welcoming atmosphere, the Sweet Potato Cafe makes diners feel right at home. Chef Karen Patton brings patrons a wide selection of vegetable-driven dishes, but the humble sweet potato is the star here, popping up in recipes across categories. Sweet potato hummus, sweet potato souffle, and sweet potato shepherd’s pie are all options highlighting the restaurant’s namesake root vegetable. However, the fried green tomatoes are also a must-order. Keep an eye out for fish fry Fridays." - Olivia Harrison

It’s between 3-3.5. We went there on a weekend for lunch and it took forever to be seated. The main server lady was somewhat curt and aggressive. After finally being seated, it still took another 5-10 min until someone came by and it took another 20-30 min for food to finally come out. It seemed like the majority of people were ok with waiting a long time for anything to happen. We had a variety of burgers, salads and sandwiches and they were all fairly good. The sauce for sweet potato fries were great. It’s a cute establishment but not great.

Our family of 8 showed up Saturday night at 6:30. We did not have a reservation yet they opened up a new section to accommodate us. The food was outstanding, the prices were great, and the people made the night. I cannot say enough good things about this bright spot in my family’s trip. We will be back!

The. Sweet Potato Cafe was awesome! Their menu has a southern flair and looked so good that the four of us had trouble deciding. We ordered 2 appetizers to share, and for meals the Garlic Shrimp Broccoli Stuffed Sweet Potato, the Kale, Apple Chicken Salad and the others Pulled Pork Mac N Cheese. The portions were large, the prices too reasonable. Our waitress was a sweetie! The atmosphere inviting. I can't say enough good things about this place.

Went to the Sweet Potato Cafe for lunch. I ordered the black bean burger with sweet potato salad, fried green tomatoes with a black eyed peas relish, and sweet potatoe pound cake. I loved the taste of the black bean relish. The black burger tasted like it was made from fresh ingredients. The sweet potato pound cake was amazing. The only thing that I personally did not care for was the sweet potato salad (bland). The service was great. If I'm ever in the area again I would definitely try again.

Google
This hidden gem was the location for our small homeschool mom get together. The food was yummy the service was prompt and polite and we were all very comfortable with the accommodations-inside and outside seating. They have a garden on site. Give yourself a few extra minutes to figure out parking. I ate my belly full and they were still offering dessert! 😋

So excited to visit a neighbor restaurant. The decor in this reminds me of my grandma’s hugs: warm, comforting, and thoughtful. The wood surfaces appearing original to the craftsmanship of this antique charmer are all beautifully finished. The diverse atmosphere was like congregating with extended family. Now concerning the food! Fried chicken and waffles is a common southern staple. This place was far from common. The sweet potato waffles were excellent; no syrup required. The chicken was seasoned to perfection with a slight kick of spicy. The whiting too was seasoned well. The flesh was succulent while the skin was oh so crunchy. The collard greens were uniquely flavored but very, very good and the sweet potato biscuits with homemade marmalade were divinely moist and sutlley sweet 🤗👌🏽 The serving sizes were ample while the pricing was very reasonable. The classic, instructional music piping through the speakers throughout was the cherry 🍒 on top. The patrons never ceased coming.

Cool place kinda crowded but other than that it was okay. Nice people 😊 Fried fish was good, waffle was okay, grits was cool, sweet potato biscuit sandwich was okay, sweet potato pie was good, fried chicken was really good. Super small table we had but it was cool overall. Not enough parking Kinda under seasoned just my opinion

Highly recommend!!!! We spent the afternoon hiking around Stone Mountain park and came here for dinner afterwards. I had the meatloaf and thought it was the most delicious meatloaf I’ve ever eaten! So flavorful and tender! My husband had the pulled pork Mac n cheese and he absolutely loved it! We also had the crispy sweet potato starter and thought it was delicious. The best part was getting a chance to meet the owner/chef and hearing some of her story. What a lovely, delightful lady she is! It was my birthday and she gave me a slice of her sweet potato pie to take home. So kind!

Yelp
food was fabulous! Atmosphere was incredible! People and setting were wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The menu choices were varied and everything we ordered was delicious. The people capped off the whole experience! We will be back!

Yelp
What a lovely restaurant! The decor is quaint and like home. A gem, for sure. My sister and niece and nephew are vegetarians and we needed someplace that accommodated them and me the omnivore. I had the soup of the day, a corn and shrimp chowder that was delicious. A little spicy but I like that. I also had the pulled pork mac n' cheese. Yummy and different with small diced sweet potatoes and crispy brussel sprouts. My sis had the vegetarian cheese steak and sweet potato fries, which she enjoyed and the kids had the pasta in marinara sauce with garlic bread and the mozarella grilled cheese with fries. No complaints from the kiddies on their meals and you know kids are hard to please! The service was warm and inviting. After an afternoon at Stone Mountain Park, this is exactly what we needed to cap off the day. Give this place a try, you won't regret it!

Yelp
My husband and I (aka gay male couple) were in Stone Mountain doing an errand and needed a late lunch pronto. Sweet Potato Cafe came up first and it was a block away so we decided to check it out. Unfortunately there was a 'Sorry, We're Closed' sign in the window. It was nearly 2 but my husband was curious if the place was permanently closed or not so he walked up and in. He discovered that the were open and had that sign up for crowd control as they were understaffed. Because we were a party of two, they would take us. It's always good to check in, I guess but not sure the closed sign method is the best idea. We found the staff to be nice and I like the open kitchen arrangement. The restaurant and menu reflect the sweet potato theme while not necessarily being southern or soul food. We ordered the chicken pesto panini and the turkey burger and both were well made, unique, and delicious. The sweet potato fries seemed fresh cut and were tasty. Those, three drinks, and a slice of caramel cake came out to under $40 which is a nice price.

Yelp
I'm in this area a few times a month and decided to try to find a local spot to treat myself before I made the drive home. I love anything sweet potato so this seemed like a match. I was greeted immediately and went to the counter to place my order. Of course I wanted to try a slice of sweet potato pie. But they also had a selection of other deserts on the counter that caught my eye. I asked for a recommendation for a side item also and went with the recommended side order of sweet potato hash. The place is quaint and there isn't a clear waiting area for to go orders. There were 2 ladies sitting at tables awaiting their food. Since I only ordered dessert and a side, I just stepped to the side of the hostess stand since I figured I wouldn't be there long. After 20 minutes, one of the other ladies approached me and mentioned that she'd been waiting 30 minutes for her dinner order. The other lady waiting heard our discussion and chimed in about her long wait as well. While we were talking, a lady came in to return her meal. She said half of it a wrong and what she did taste was not good at all. After waiting 25 minutes for a slice of cake, slice of pie and side I went to the register and told them they could cancel my order and I was going to leave. So I unfortunately did not get to try any of the food. It was quite disappointing since I could literally see the dessert in front of me and it just needed to be placed in a to go container. Another issue I had was an automatic service charge. There is a sign on the wall stating that the charge is added to any order over $15. However, my order was less than $15 and still received an automatic charge.

Yelp
This is a gem of a farm to table restaurant just off the main thoroughfare (1- 2 blocks) in Stone Mountain. The owners and waitstaff obviously work hard to make sure you have a nice experience. We had salmon cakes and chicken salad along with pineapple pound cake and chocolate cake. All were very good. The atmosphere is laid back. Service was top notch. Anytime I'm in this area this will be my go to place for food. Desserts were excellent!

Sharon C.

Yelp
Snaps hots of this place: Dirty - very dirty, sat near a wall with lit alcove of sorts. Absolutely disgusting with dead bug and zero sign of ever being cleaned. Small and cramped in the main area. Food took long - felt like I got a side eye due to the person I was with. I asked normal questions about the meal I ordered and it was an immediate problem no matter kind and smily I was. Special of the day was flat bread pizza the size for small child not an adult man. The server made zero mention of this.

Bob C.

Yelp
Best Friday night atmosphere & what seemed like home cooking! Bowl of cream cheese & broccoli soup & their apple super food salad fill me up while my wife filled up on a delicious honey garlic shrimp salad.

Yelp
So thankful I found this place! Perfect place to go after a Saturday stroll up Stone Mountain. All their food is fresh and taste amazing. The Cafe itself truly resembles what I imagine a cafe to look like. It's an older home in Stone Mountain Village. They really do take Sweet Potato's seriously here. If you like sweet potato's this is the place to go. They serve them in plenty of different ways. We ordered the Crispy Sweet Potato's.- diced potato's, goat cheese, candied pecans, molasses maple glaze, and rosemary salt. So good! Also ordered a chicken pesto panini and the apple super food salad. All the food tasted super fresh and delicious. The staff was very friendly and kind. Definitely plan on going back.

Yelp
We picked this place after finding it on Yelp. The pictures of the food certainly looked good. We ordered a Turkey burger and angus burger. The seasoning was awful. I'm not convinced my turkey burger was cooked completely. It tasted like it had a bunch of sage in it. The seasoning was the same in the angus burger as well. The coke that was ordered came out in a cup with ice, which I assumed would be refilled. The server never did, when asked we were told that they sell them by the can. It's probably best to be upfront about that and bring the can out with ice so it's clear. Service was slow. The server didn't check on us. I did not feel welcomed. When visiting Stone Mountain, we will find somewhere else.

Yelp
This place was the number one rated restaurant in the area so we stopped in for lunch. Unfortunately we did not have a good experience. While the staff was nice they did not have enough help to accommodate which resulted in long wait times to sit and as well as waiting on food. The menu was super small and they also did not have a kids menu which was really hard for us as we had two young kids who were picky. Something that bothered us also was the food coming out in intervals. 1 plate here then 5 minutes later 2 plates then 10 minutes later 1 more than 5 minutes later the last plates. We wanted to eat together but instead everyone else food was cold or already finished by the time the last persons plate arrived. The inside is also extremely small with only one small bathroom. Constantly felt that we were being bumped into the whole time while sitting down.

Yelp
Today was my second time trying this place. The first time I only had the biscuits (so good by the way). Today was an odd experience. When we walked in a gentlemen asked us if we were dining in, we responded yes and he didn't move lol there was another server running food. I guess he was on break or off. She had to ask him to seat us. I ordered the salmon croquettes and I hated them. I could've cried because it's so far from what I expected. I was a little apprehensive about staying anyways because after we were seated I over heard another table complaining about there food. The server's explanation regarding the marinara sauce was "yeahhhh she does make it a little different". So, now I'm wondering what else is made "different" here. I learned fast. It's the salmon croquettes. The server gave me the same explanation when I told her it was nothing like I expected. The croquettes were chunky like crab cakes. I'm use to a more smooth, blended texture when it comes to salmon croquettes. They were fried hard and I don't think the salmon was seasoned. There was peppers mixed in but I didn't taste any flavor. The batter the were fried in and the sauce on top was the only flavor. I feel like they were made with frozen salmon to give the look of fresh salmon but fresh salmon has a very distinctive taste that these were missing! I was hungry and this experience was so unfortunate. The server was nice but she was slow. I think she was the only one working though so that could explain it. She tried to help me find a substitute for hot sauce because they were out. I can say I supported and gave it an honest try. I'm not sure if I'll be back for anything other than a biscuit to go.

Yelp
Adorable cafe with very attentive and courteous staff. Even refilled my drink without me asking. Lots of outdoor seating options in addition to indoor. Prices are super reasonable and there wasn't a long wait to receive my order. Loved that they provide hand sanitizer and have a newish checkout process that allows you to pay via QR code. Recommend the chicken pesto panini and sweet potato soufflé but not so much the sweet potato salad. Would def return!

Yelp
We were looking for something unique for lunch on our vacation. We stumbled upon this gem. The food was amazing, especially the fried green tomatoes. The staff was very friendly and the place felt like you were sitting in your grandma's dining room. Highly recommend!

Carmen B.

Yelp
Love this bistro! We were staying at stone Mountain Campground looking for a special place to celebrate our anniversary. Southern comfort food is our favorite and Sweet Potato Cafe puts their foot in it (fyi: that's a southern idiom for exceptional cooking). The restaurant, located in a neat old cottage, is well appointed with a variety of comfortable and elegant seating. Sweet Potato Cafe is the kind of place where you can go for a bite solo, and casual wearing a running suit and just have a cup of coffee and dessert, or you can dress up for a lovely dinner-date celebration with a four-course meal. The staff is kind, knowledgeable and professional. The table service is clean, neat and charming. We went to Sweet Potato Cafe twice and we had great service and scrumptious food.

Donna H.

Yelp
Food is good southern kitchen cuisine. They have a delish sweet potato biscuit. Very intimate setting. More room during the hotter weather when they set tables outside. Stone Mountain strong.

Tatiana T.

Yelp
Absolutely Amazing little cafe! My daughter and I stopped in before hiking Stone Mountain and it's was everything!

Lisa N.

Yelp
Got take out, sweet potato hummus is good enough to daydream about. Always nice and friendly service.

Joe C.

Yelp
Nice place with a great atmosphere. The food and service were excellent. I will return next time in Stone Mountain!

Danny M.

Yelp
The food is spot on. Every visit that I've had has yet to disappoint me. The dining room is crowded that is for sure, so make sure you have a reservation. Aside that, it's truly gives small town local vibes. Owner is a nice black lady who always brings a great smile! You can tell that this is one of Stone Mountains major community hubs!

Janos J.

Yelp
My friend and I came over here for late lunch after a visit to Sarah's Kitchen down the road and sadly they went out of business. However, the incredible news was that we discovered Sweet Potato Café. The owner of the restaurant greeted us and I must say this place is really beautifully designed and welcoming. Of course, people come here for the food, but I appreciate the design of this place too as it makes it very relaxing and they have an outside patio. Sweet Potato Café is the perfect place for a dinner out with a date or spouse. We shared their sweet potato hummus, this was really good and presented well. My friend and I each ordered their BBQ Pork sandwich with fries. I had the regular ones and my friend had their sweet potato fries. All of which were excellent. Overall, this place is excellent. Outstanding staff, and great food. To be quite honest with a lot of places that sell BBQ pork, it's usually extremely dry, so they have to soak it in BBQ to overcome its dryness, but not here. It was smoked just right and had just the correct amount of BBQ. I would highly Sweet Potato Café to anyone who appreciates great food and good service. Plus, it is always great to be able to help support local businesses. I am looking forward to coming here for dinner with my spouse. She's going to love it. [Review #656]  (11th Review of 2022)

Yelp
My family with two young boys arrived at 11:50am on a Saturday morning. We found a table and sat down in the tiny dining room. We were told immediately we couldn't order breakfast as of 5 minutes ago; 11:45am and couldn't eat lunch until 12:15pm. It felt like we were being turned away and the vibe was not friendly at all. We were tired from the road and just wanted a cup of coffee and the boys wanted OJ so we decided to just roll with the punches. We ordered lunch. We sat and watched all the other tables be brought breakfast omelets that looked amazing. At 12:25 we still hadn't received our food but the table next to us was brought "omelets to-go" even though we were refused breakfast for the boys who wanted eggs and waffles. The boys watched a child at another table be brought a waffle at 12:20. After sitting for nearly 45 minutes with an empty coffee cup that was never refilled my wife decided it best we try to be fed somewhere else and we asked for ticket. A manager came over and explained the kitchen times but charged us $10 for two cups of coffee and two small glasses of OJ. I was surprised she didn't comp us after the mistreatment. We live in the country and I can tell you family owned restaurants like this ALWAYS accommodate children regardless of times. If you're expecting a warm welcome and soft friendly service this is NOT the place. I can understand that McDonalds stops serving breakfast at 11am on the dot as a franchise but not a small family run establishment. The experience left us feeling that we were discriminated against because we are white to be honest. All of the patrons and staff were black. Thankfully, we had a 5 star experience at Cherokee Rose right around the corner which really saved our trip to Stone Mountain! Definitely check them out instead.

Yelp
As always such great atmosphere, food, and service! Thank you! Enjoyed the Fried Green Tomatoes and Garlic Shrimp & Broccoli huge baked sweet potato!!! Cameron P., the server, greeted me as I entered the door and provided excellent customer service all the way through to my to go coffee. The place is a Vibe, especially after walking Stone Mountain!!!!! Please treat yourself or bring a group, it's a soul warming experience. Thank you Sweet Potato Cafe!!!

Monika M.

Yelp
Food and service was perfect! Homemade and delicious meals, 100% worth the stop. Can't wait to go back.

Tanya J.

Yelp
Had a sweet treat for Breakfast today at the Sweet Potato Cafe. I ordered the Sweet Potato Waffle and buttermilk chicken tenders. The homemade maple butter added a unique flavor to my waffle. The tenders were tasty. This neighborhood restaurant was cozy and felt familiar. Like grandma's house. I'll definitely be back in the spring to enjoy the porch and more items that I watched go past my table like the omelette with a side of creamed collard greens

Jesus V.

Yelp
The service is absolutely terrible. Very rude, including the kitchen employees. The lady at the front that claimed to be the manager called me out of my name, then bullied and picked on us. It was disgusting behavior, whomever this person is, she needs to be talked to immediately. If she is the owner, shame on her. Absolutely terrible service. I was extremely excited to try this restaurant, especially since it's black owned. The manager looked so sweet, and I'd never imagined we'd be treated like that by our own. The tall, bald guy wearing the black chef coat that worked back in the kitchen area even participated in the ridiculing of me as well. shame on them.

Yelp
Our new go to spot for brunch in Stone Mountain! Service is always top notch and it feels homey!

Clarice L.

Yelp
Unfortunately, the pricing for the amount of food I personally feel is way too high and the amount of salt in the food. It's also way too high.

Marvin T.

Yelp
A nice homey feel but gourmet food served. You have to try their brunch. A definite must-try in the Stone Mountain area!

Janice S.

Yelp
We Shady Ladies love Karen Patton and Sweet Potato Cafe! They have always done such an incredible job hosting our gatherings. And the food is fantastic! We're coming again soon!

Yelp
Nice, quaint spot with great food located off the square in Stone Mountain. I've had their black bean burger and a stuffed sweet potato. Both were really delicious!

Yelp
The food at this restaurant is sssssoooo delicious! The staff is amazing and this restaurant was talked about for our vacation as being the best place to eat.

Yelp
If you're looking to eat local or support a small black owned business this is the place to go! Great food and friendly staff! They have outdoor seating that is dog friendly. And their decor is super cute. Highly recommend!

Naé S.

Yelp
Said they close at 7pm. Got here at 6:22pm and they had the closed sign on the door. I saw multiple people sitting in there as well, as well as workers

Yelp
We were in town for a quick getaway. Wanted brunch from a non chain restaurant and found this Very cute quaint place in Stone Mountain, GA. Food was delicious and good service.

Yelp
Great food...great atmosphere....great staff. I had the chicken pesto sandwich, which was delicious. My husband had some kind of a bowl and he loved it. Everything seemed very fresh and the quality of the ingredients was nice. If you're looking for a cozy spot in an old house, with great food....this is it. Nice little gem in SM village.

Cornell R.

Yelp
Sweet Potato Cafe in Downtown Stone Mountain is a must-visit spot for food enthusiasts. Having been there multiple times, I can confidently say that it consistently impresses with its delectable offerings. The Pesto Chicken Panini is a flavor-packed delight, while the fried green tomatoes are simply outstanding. The cozy atmosphere and free Wi-Fi make it the perfect place to enjoy a meal while working on a project. Also, the staff was nice and very accommodating. If you find yourself in Downtown Stone Mountain, make sure to stop by Sweet Potato Cafe for an unforgettable experience.

Tara H.

Yelp
Y'all..... This is the place to eat! Totally made up for the abismal trip to Stone Mountain. This food is SMH good. Friendly staff, too! Hubs and I both got the pulled pork mac n cheese after our appetizer of crispy sweet potatoes. Feels like you're eating at a friend's house. Please support small business, especially black owned and operated.

Steven H.

Yelp
Small place but food was incredible. Must try the sweet potato hummus nice afternoon lunch spot

Payal P.

Yelp
We were on vacation. As a vegetarian, I was OBSESSED with this place!! Farm to table, and you can taste it in the food. Great variety of deserts as well. GREAT price point as well, and very clean food. So happy to have supported this black owned business!

Tasha N.

Yelp
Omg, their food is sooooo good. I had the Honey Garlic Shrimp and Broccoli Loaded Sweet Potato. It has the perfect blend of sweet and spicy! Not overly spicy

Heather A.

Yelp
We enjoyed a delicious dinner here last weekend!! The grilled Salmon was perfection as was the SWEET POTATO SOUFFLE W/ PECANS! The carrot cake was a perfect dessert. The atmosphere was very nice, our server was very attentive even though they were very busy. Can't wait to get back for another visit!

Jess B.

Yelp
This restaurant was absolutely the highlight of our trip to Stone Mountain! The food was delicious. I thought I didn't like fried green tomatoes...until I had them here! Scrumptious! We went for dinner on our first night, then had to come back for brunch right before we left. The sweet potato soufflé and the sweet potato biscuits were amazing! The service was wonderful, and the ambiance was so great too. If you are in the area, this restaurant is a definite winner!

Owen M.

Yelp
One of the best places I've eaten. They say it's soul food, and it really is. The service was great. Everyone was happy when we were there.

Shirin P.

Yelp
I have been to Sweet Potato Cafe 3 times, the food is awesome, and a cute little house is converted with a porch seating as well. The food is very good and the service was awesome as well.

Donna H.

Yelp
My friend from Detroit had never even heard of Sweet Potato Cafe--although she has relatives who live in the area. She was charmed from the moment she approached the restaurant!! We arrived shortly after the restaurant opened. Cameron was a charming, informative, helpful, and efficient server. I had a black bean burger with sweet potato fries. My friend had the pesto chicken panini and the black bean, turkey chili. We were both too full to eat our sweet potato pie, but we took slices home. (My friend had a bunch of her meal to take home.) The restaurant was not crowded when we were there. Soft music in the background was pleasant but did not prevent us from our conversation. Overall, we had a relaxed, delicious, and memorable lunch! Great job, Sweet Potato Cafe!!

Yelp
Absolutely awful experience on my Birthday. Let me preemp just a little. I am a regular diner and supporter of Sweet Potato Cafe. They were on the TV show Restaurant Impossible. Everyone knows their financial issues. I have attended three 10 person or more Birthday parties there. The last one I arranged and booked myself for an 87 year old friend of mine. Exactly the same people attended this party. Karen, the owner, and I have many of the same friends. This is why I eat there. The food is mediocre and the white wine is warm (!!!) ... but we still come back! Support! Each time the tables were pushed together for the 10. I have never, nor have any of my friends, rented the back room in order to have the 3 tables pushed together for 10 people. The reservation was left a week in advance and left by a mutual friend of Karen and myself. We were asked to move the reservation forward from 7 to 6:30. Apparently 6:30pm is the last seating. Nothing else was mentioned. So what happened? For my 52nd Birthday Party on March 10th I went to the Sweet Potato Cafe to meet my friends and found them sitting at separate tables! The restaurant was pretty much empty. I figured they forgot we were coming. No worries! Giggling (it was my Birthday! I was carrying presents and having fun!) I went to the back of the restaurant and found Karen. I said happily we were the reservation party of 10 but the tables weren't pushed together. Can we push the tables together? I was told the following immediately. Not even a breath of pause. We don't do that! (yes you do!) You should have rented the back room (But we never have!) Other customers might need to use the back room. (Remember we are the last reservation?) There is only one waitress (...Um?) ... and my favorite ... reserving a table for 10 does not necessarily mean ONE table. We should have specified. What????? I was laughing and happy initially when I asked for the tables to be pushed together. It was my Birthday. By the end of the conversation my happiness was gone. I realized Karen would not move the tables together and I threw my hands up and said OK! ... we're leaving! I asked why they hadn't called to tell us all this before we showed up? To be honest I felt completely discriminated against. I just don't see another explanation here. It was awful and upsetting. I do not recommend eating here. In fact I would like an apology. Thank you to the Village Corner German Restaurant for saving my night and bringing back the fun!

Yelp
Went here after visiting Stone Mountain, very good service and staff. Angus burger was one of the best I've had. Apple pie was also good.

Faidah M.

Yelp
A very cute neighborhood restaurant off Main Street in Stone Mountain. Make sure you check out the desserts! Great service!
