What Reopening Looks Like Around the World | Eater

How Shake Shack and Sweetgreen Ended Up With Small-Business Loans | Eater

"A fast-casual salad chain accepted a $10 million PPP loan but chose to return it after founders learned the initial fund had run out and many small restaurants had not received aid; in an open letter they said their original intent was to use the funds to support restaurant teams during the crisis, and they returned the money so it could be available to smaller businesses." - Caleb Pershan

We were in Uptown for a meeting and decided to stop at Sweetgreen for lunch. I ordered the fries, the steak kale salad and a Hibiscus tea in a bottle. We were shocked that after placing the order 5 minutes later it was ready to pick up! Impressive during a busy lunch rush. The staff was friendly and Reginald took especially good care of us. I loved that two different staff members walked around the restaurant and checked on the customers. We loved the entire experience and look forward to dining there regularly for fresh and healthy food at a reasonable price. Oh and the pickle flavored ketchup is delicious! I would definitely recommend.

Staff was kind and friendly. Even though we had an order for 5 at 8:30 pm, they were all smiles and seemed to not mind! We choose to eat our salads outside on the picnic tables.

Google
Customization and quality! Once the food order was placed in the kiosk, the machine makes the bowl ready and the restaurant guyz add the hot food on top and voilà, the food was ready in 3 minutes. I loved the hot food and the friendly staff and the calm and nice atmosphere. Must visit place if you are ever thinking to try something new. Spl mention about the kimchi sauce. Oh! Gosh! Too good.

These dishes were so packed with flavor, I was throughly surprised. Just because it's healthy doesn't mean it doesn't have to have flavor. The staff was super helpful as well. We will be back multiple times for sure.

Google
Healthy and tasty bowls and wraps. Every ingredient is customizable to one's liking. Fully automated from placing the orders to preparation, which makes it hygienic too. Located conveniently on the main street. I am not sure about the parking options. Fairly priced when compared to other places with similar quality.

Do I need to open the bowel and see everything is good every time I order from here ?? Look this avocado it don’t look fresh at all and smell so nasty. Do better! And this is not my first time getting this kind of avocado.

Google
My friend and I grabbed lunch here; pesto chicken salad and steak salad. Both were yummy! 😋 It totally reminds me of Flower Child restaurant. The reason I took one star off is that the amount of food compared to the price was expensive. 💸 #Lunch #Restaurant #Food #Salad #Price

Google
I was excited to learn that Charlotte had a sweetgreen. When I went to get a kale Caesar salad to go, I noticed once I got home. The half of my ingredients were missing. My salad bowl looked empty, like it had already been eaten. I’m disappointed

Yelp
Probably one of the freshest tasting Sweetgreen bowls I've had in a while. I like the kiosk ordering and the service was fast. Casual. Indoor seating but there are outdoor areas where you can hang out also. Please come and create your own adventure.

Yelp
Sweetgreen is basically an introvert's paradise. No awkward small talk, no risk of someone mishearing your order and giving you extra kale when you specifically asked for less--just you, the self-order kiosk, and the comforting hum of automation handling your meal with robotic precision. If you love delicious, well-balanced bowls and minimal human interaction, Sweetgreen is your safe space. 10/10, would order again without making eye contact.

Yelp
THEY LITERALLY JUST DELIVERED ME MY CHICKEN BOWL WITHOUT F* ing CHICKEN ON IT. I cannot believe I just received a bowl of lettuce, rice, and half an avocado. I am actually so mad rn who tf does that. Contacted customer service and they better give me a refund and then some. $18 for legit nothing. IM SO ANGRY I CANNOT EVEN WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL

Yelp
I only recently learned about this restaurant so I decided to stop in for lunch. It was very busy as you'd imagine on a weekday in uptown. Ordering was easy on the tablets they provided. You can customize your selections and send it through. Watching the machine make bowls is entertaining while you wait. It really is fascinating and a nice use of technology. I was pretty annoyed about having to wait 20 minutes beyond my estimated pickup time because of the salmon I selected as my protein. I'm not sure if they had to wait for the salmon to be delivered, thawed, cooked or what, but it delayed my wait time unreasonably and I wasn't offered an apology or even a free drink for the inconvenience. That was very disappointing. Still undecided about whether I'll return since I wasn't happy with the service. My meal was good. I thought it was unique in the toppings and ingredients.

Yelp
Very delicious and fresh salads. I got the Autumn Harvest Bowl with substituting tofu for the chicken. The website is very impressive with the pictures of the options, included ingredients and the portions of each. I picked this up while a friend waited in the car which made it easy. I would love to see more of these not in uptown with parking options for a quick in an out. Overall my bowl was so delicious! I will be back.

Yelp
I ordered my salad on the app. It was ready in a short amount of time. It was delicious!! Seasoned correctly. All the ingredients were so flavorful and meshed well together. I needed more dressing for my salad otherwise I was happy with the portion and the flavors. If they can deliver like this, I will continue to go back. The restaurant was clean when I walked in but I took my salad to go. I did notice there were many people inside but they seemed to be looking at the menu contemplating on what to order.

Yelp
Hoping to come back and change this review as I know Sweetgreen just opened. I ordered the steak caesar salad and they forgot the tomato's and only had 3 pieces of steak in the entire $15 salad. Tasted like a regular caesar salad. Nothing special. Super bummed because I was so excited to try this place out as the menu looked amazing! I will be back and hopefully update this review with a better rating.

Yelp
I had heard of sweetgreen before, so I was excited when I saw on Instagram that they were opening in uptown. I happened to be in Charlotte in the late evening & used their amazing app (it really is a GREAT app!) to make my order. I got the garlic steak chopped romaine salad (added some cucumbers & spicy broccoli) & a side of roasted sweet potatoes & maple glazed brussel sprouts (with hot honey sauce). The order was filled quickly & the app let me know my order was ready to pick up. Sadly, there was nowhere to park to grab & go (thanks, uptown :D ), so I had to spin the block a few times & found street parking two blocks away. :D The spot is bright & welcoming with an open kitchen & a good bit of seating. It's very modern-looking but also has a simple layout. I love that they had the pick-up "cubbies", so you can pick up your order & go, without having to bother anyone. And let's talk about looks - the bags are sturdy, with good marketing/branding. I was so excited to eat, I started with the potatoes & sprouts in the car. SO good. I wished they were a bit warmer, but I can't blame sweetgreen, since it took me a bit to get to them. They were delicious though! And the hot honey sauce - give me a whole container! So good! Don't judge, but I may have devoured my salad on the way home. The eco-friendly container was huge - another plus for sweetgreen! You get A LOT of food in that bow! - so it was easy for me to chomp away & safely drive. Everything was delicious. Fresh ingredients & the steak was amazing. I can't wait to get back!

Yelp
Excellent options for healthy eating in uptown Charlotte. Highly recommend ordering via the app since this places gets extremely busy at lunch during the week.

Yelp
The salads are amazing, just expensive. Also the only location here in CLT is uptown which is always crowded. They need more locations around Charlotte since everyone seems to be into fitness.

Yelp
Sweetgreen is a fast casual salad chain with a cult like following. They opened to a lot of fan fare in Uptown Charlotte, and while there are a few salad chains already here, none of them ever seemed to have the hype that Sweetgreen did so I was very intrigued. I came in on a weekday after walking over from my office. There was a large crowd of hungry office workers, and a patron waiting in line confirmed that it is often quite busy. He assured me though that despite the line, service moves quickly, and he was right about that. The ordering is done at a kiosk where you make your selections and pay. This is convenient because it allows you to take your time customizing your salad or rice bowl just the way you like it while getting to review all of your options. Once my order was complete I received it after waiting about 5 minutes. Really they have a great business model, and I can see why people enjoy it so much. The reason I wasn't blown away in the end was because I felt like my portions were too small. I know that a lot of people who eat at salad places are health conscious and it's possible that Sweetgreen kept this in mind when deciding how to portion their food, but I just felt like for what I paid I wanted some more protein. I wouldn't hesitate to go back as I did enjoy the food, but I will keep this in mind, and if I am extra hungry then this may not be the best stop.

Yelp
New fries are just so-so. Tables and chairs dirty as are the floors. No one around cleaning after guests. Too many other options locally

Kristin W.

Yelp
Terrible. I have been here twice and both times they have lost my order and had to ask 5-6 times for them to figure out what happened and fulfill my order

Gayle L.

Yelp
Service was really bad. 20 folks standing around waiting for their order at 1:45p. The poor little girls behind the counter looked miserable with absolutely no hustle to get things done. Clearly didn't care. I asked for our water after are food came up and she placed it on her side of the counter and walked away without a word. The owner needs to know his team should not be customer facing. Maybe the back of the house cleaning? Hopefully, it was just a bad day for them. Upside, food was good

Matthew S.

Yelp
great service and ambience and the staff was wonderful I would def come here again if I could

Therese D.

Yelp
I ordered on an app and my order was significantly delayed. Arrived an hour after my original confirmed time. Unfortunately, to make it worse, there was hardly anything in my salad. I ordered the kale Caesar and it had three small pieces of chicken, three tomatoes a shave or two of parmesan and missing the crisps. I wont be returning. Very disappointing for the amount they charge. I have been a loyal customer of Sweetgreen but recently they've been falling short.

Yelp
We were looking forward to Sweet Green opening and were highly disappointed with our take out order Friday night. The pictures when you order do not match the quality of the food received. For a $15 salad I would expect better. My salad had regular onions instead of pickled onions and there were pieces of lettuce stems mixed in. They mixed in ranch dressing instead of the green goddess dressing. The other salad we ordered without kale which led to the bowl being half full. The chicken was also cold on both salads. Our side of sweet potatoes were cold and the other side- focaccia and hummus - came uncut without the hummus. We will not be back to this location!

Madeline L.

Yelp
Honestly, I loved sweet greens until they changed the carrots. They used to be shredded into thin enjoyable pieces. However, they recently changed them into large chunks of thick circular pieces that are hard to chew. At this point, I consider not getting the carrots or even the salad at all. I am extremely disappointed. Also, why am I paying like 15-20 bucks for one salad? Like its good but seriously?
