Salad Chain Sweetgreen Lands in Twin Cities with Three Upcoming Locations | Eater Twin Cities

"Known for its cult following among coastal salad eaters, I see Sweetgreen Inc. as a chain that popularized sleek, verdant marketing—where each salad bowl is styled like a portable Garden of Eden—and built loyalty with a (now-retired) rewards program that appealed to fast-moving urban professionals; The New Yorker’s Jia Tolentino described it as “a marvel of optimization.” In October 2021 the company filed for an IPO and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange, signaling its identity as an ambitious tech-facing company, but that filing also revealed millions in losses and raised questions about profitability. In its first quarterly report since the IPO, CNBC reported widening losses alongside strong sales growth, and the company does not expect to be profitable this year, which is uncommon for publicly traded restaurants. Sweetgreen is now moving into the Twin Cities market, which is already saturated with salad chains (Crisp and Green has 10 locations with nine more coming, and Green and the Grain runs six locations plus a food truck), and plans to open its first Twin Cities location in Edina this summer, with additional spots planned for the North Loop and Grand Avenue." - Justine Jones

My daughter and I came here for lunch around 130 pm so we are fortunate not to have to wait for food very long. It's a very popular place so often lines are long to order food. It's one of her favorite places where I have only been here a few times. We love that that have organic food and source locally. We were very happy to see they use Stickney Hill goat cheese which is our favorite goat cheese ( also known as the Humble Goat brand) from Minnesota! The line to order behind us got long fast and there was only one person creating the made to order meals. They eventually got one more person to help. I was happy to see they had Kombucha to drink which isn't normal at places yet. I have the Etole bowl which is pictured. I was delicious and the portions are huge so I recommend sharing if you aren't able to bring home leftovers. I had to throw 1/2 out because it would have gone bad sitting in the hot car while we shopped.I also provided a pic of the list of the locally sourced ingredients. They don't have a ton of seating, the patio ( which is their largest area ) was full as were the few inside the restaurant so we sat at tables in Galleria. Parking is available in the Galleria lot which is often packed but they also have parking underneath the Galleria. I read they have e-car charging as well underneath. I am not vegan but they appear to have several vegan options. Organic is important to me so I was thrilled to see all the organic ingredients .

Our market research vendor ordered from here for our lunch. I've had Sweetgreen many times, but I was underwhelmed this time around. The portion was small, portions of the avocado were brown, and the rice was dry. I did get a bowl with a few things removed, so I'm glad they honored that. I just was not impressed with this meal.

Google
Grabbed a salad as a late night dinner. I've never been here before, just Googled keto option near me and this place came up. I had the a modified steak Caesar salad. (Subbed the Caesar dressing for the ranch & the lime cilantro jalapeno dressing; and switched the tomatoes for cucumber). I had the dressing mixed in instead of on the side. This was the most delicious thing I've put in my mouth in a long time!! If I lived closer I'd eat this nearly every day!!! 10/10

Google
I ordered the same meal, hit reorder in the app, three days this week… It is always a surprise when I open the top. Zero consistency on order accuracy and portion size. Some days it is amazing, others it is not. I learned that sweetgreen lunch roulette on a 7 day stretch is not my ideal way to start a 10-hr shift. So, if you want consistency, avoid ordering take out.

Chimney C.

Google
Delivery driver pickup experience. On doordash *every* single order from this place is flagged as having a dessert, I ask the employees and they confirm it isn't on the receipt. The one time I don't double check my customer has a missing dessert item. The employees are always surprised I ask there is a dessert there that isn't as if this issue isn't more common. Fix this crap. The app is just supposed to tell me if a dessert is there or not, some thing in your online order process is passing incorrect info. Ever since covid it is not my responsibility to check each order item if your employees forget I don't want that falling on me. If I don't even eat here and you're getting a negative experience from me then you are seriously doing something wrong.

Google
This is by far the worst location!! We order once or twice a week from here and our order is always wrong! The food is never consistent, on multiple occasions they forgot our chicken completely. I mentioned it a someone 2 weeks ago and they assured me things were better. We ordered from there last night and avocado was missing from both salads, good thing I checked before leaving the store. It was not busy in there, the staff is not very friendly and takes forever to get someone’s attention.

Bob B.

Google
Well, for the money, would be nice if the avocado were cut and actually ripe. They also forgot my dressing.

Peyton B.

Google
Got an elote bowl and there wasn’t any corn. Have had multiple instances of salads missing ingredients. They still always taste good, but being charged for ingredients that aren’t actually on the salad is disappointing

Yelp
The food at sweet green is always so good! Love how fresh everything is and the service is fast! My favorite is in the summer sitting outside on the patio.

Yelp
I've been coming here regularly for a year and a half and absolutely love the harvest bowl with roasted sweet potatoes. They are always warm and golden brown. So delicious. I come a long way to get the salad because it's one of my favorites. I came in yesterday to order the salad and they put frozen cold, did not look roasted sweet potatoes on my salad. They must have been frozen because they were extremely cold. When I inquired about it the clerk said they are always cold. My husband even asked for a manager because we know we've had them brown on top and warm every other salad we've ordered there. The manager also said no the salad isn't like that. So perhaps they changed to cold sweet potatoes that look like carrots now for the harvest bowl. The pictures show golden brown roasted sweet potatoes but that's not what I received. I won't be coming back for the salad anymore unfortunately.

Yelp
I can't believe it took me over a year to finally visit here. Popped in while I was shopping when the hunger hit hard and was greeted by staff. The place was busy and yet I felt like tables were clean and trash was not overflowing. I ordered the caramelized garlic steak and would 10 /10 order that again. I loved that my salad had warm components to it and although I would not categorize it as a "inexpensive salad" I do feel like it was worth what I paid. My steak Was delicious and all my vegetables and sauce portion were to perfection. I especially loved that my sweet potato was at that delicious caramel stage. Definitely make this a lunch stop during your day!

Yelp
I mainly only do order pickup as I order for my lunch (30 min lunch break) and I'm also sweetpass member... for now. Usually when I go in to grab my bowl the restaurant looks decently clean most times and my order is usually ready and on the shelf by time I get there. I'm not a fan of the online ordering system. If you put your order in ahead of time they make it way too early and it sits on the shelf forever. I've had bowls sit 30-45 mins when I selected a particular pickup time (for example I put my order in at 10am to pickup at 12:30, I'll get a message saying they are putting my order on the shelf at 1145-12). Also if you put it in closer to the time you want to actually pick it up you risk waiting forever. This location has been very inconsistent with quality. Sometimes I'm missing ingredients or the dressing, sometimes the broccoli is still borderline frozen or for some reason really cold and soggy. It's very hit or miss. I have had a few good orders and when it's good it's good. The parking lot is almost always busy, they do have 15 min parking which is nice for running in if you can get a spot.

Yelp
Sweetgreen is a crowd pleaser. I recently ordered from here for a work lunch for 5 of my coworkers and they all exclaimed how amazing it was. They begged to have it again next time we order out. Their favorite was the miso glazed salmon protein plate. My go to is a create your own salad with arugula, kale, goat cheese, sweet potatoes, onion, cilantro and a variety of dressings on the side. I love how fresh everything is and how reliable and consistent the meals are. Truly there is something for everyone and I think the pricing is very reasonable.

Bryan B.

Yelp
The staff is great! Friendly, fast, and knowledgable of the menu. The food is good, and ready very quickly. The tables were dirty last time we went in, but to be fair it was during the dinner rush and they were working on a lot of pickup orders and a long line.
google avatar

Inaje P.

Yelp
Came here for a salad two separate times and even though the salad is very good and filling the service has been so bizarre! Both times I was never greeted nor felt welcomed. I went in yesterday and while I was paying the worker just walked away and started doing something else so I didn't get a receipt and I didn't even know I was done which was unfortunate because the person helping my sister next to me was very warm and gave her a receipt and wished us both a good day. They have both indoor and outdoor seating with free parking which is a plus! But I guess don't take it personally if they don't seem the nicest because at least the salads are good!
google avatar

Yelp
I was looking for a healthy new lunch option and I definitely found a good spot! I originally was going to try the North Loop minneapolis location but parking was just nonexistent! This Edina location has a parking lot! The restaurant is not overly large. There is indoor and outdoor seating. This location was clean and lots of staff were prepping items. I was greeted right away and given plenty of time to review the menu! The woman who put my salad together was extremely friendly and I would come back just based on my interaction with her :) The salad was very good! I got the Buffalo without pickles. I enjoyed all the flavors and textures in the salad! The hot sauce adds an awesome level of heat and you can decide how much you get for hot sauce and dressing. You also get a slice of bread here which I thought was great! I didn't take the bread as I was watching my calories today but it did look good! Overall I would come back here! I took one star away for the Buffalo chicken being a bit greasy and no fountain drink options. I had a can of sparking water but I'd love to see lemonade at the very least here.

Yelp
After hearing the hype about sweetgreen from my friends in Chicago, I was so excited to see it had come to Minneapolis! I ordered sweetgreen this week for delivery on a busy work day - there are lots of options on how you can get this delivered (the usual apps or straight through the website), I decided to go through the actual sweetgreen website. It was hard to choose a salad or bowl to go with, all have a very earthy and warm vibe. I went with the Chicken & Brussels salad which I believe is seasonal. I also grabbed my favorite flavor of Spindrift, half & half, to go along with my salad. With delivery fees and tip this was $25 - pricey but pretty on par for any sort of food delivery these days. The food got here in about 45 minutes and I was able to track everything through the sweetgreen website which was super helpful when being stuck in meetings! This salad is one of my favorites I've had in the Twin Cities! It's a unique flavor with the Brussels sprouts and sweet potato with delicious herbed chicken and raspberry vinaigrette (and other toppings I'm forgetting!). One of my favorite parts were the crunchy nuts on top. I would get this salad again in a heartbeat! The serving size was perfect for me too, definitely filled me up and was a full meal. I loved that it came in fully compostable packaging with compostable plastic ware. Overall, for a light lunch I will definitely be back!

Yelp
After the luxury of having Sweetgreen during my time in DC, the long awaited time is finally here - Sweetgreen in Minnesota!!! I never thought I could crave for a salad, but their kale Caesar salad was something I would continue to crave and I am so happy that I am able to go to sweetgreen all the time now! Their ingredients are always so fresh and so filling. The space is so clean, so modern and spacious. I love how they have a window just for pickups and also love how spacious the outdoor seating area is. I would highly recommend to give Sweetgreen a try if you haven't already and get your salad fix

Yelp
Great food.. very good. My 3rd time ordering it but you know what I've noticed. When you place an order online for pick up they're stingy with their dressing and just do a small cup of dressing (on the side) if you ask and if you go in person and have them make a plate infront of you, they give you 2 cups of dressing.. kind of a bummer as it's a dry salad when they just give you a small cup if you do a online order :/ food is still good just wish their dressing cups were a bit bigger

Yelp
Excellent service and food. The Crispy Rice Bowl is a favorite. Try it with quinoa instead of wild rice. We also ordered a custom salad too. They will make it however you want. Crispy Rice Bowl - Blackened chicken, raw carrots, shredded cabbage, cucumbers, cilantro, roasted almonds, crispy rice, warm wild rice, arugula, lime squeeze, spicy cashew dressing. Don't miss the Crispy Rice treat!

Kristina D.

Yelp
The person that helped us with our order did not appear to acknowledge any of our choices and when I asked questions, they ignored my questions. Music was loud, which made it difficult to hear them. Other person in line was having their order taken at the same time and it was difficult to hear over the other server and customer conversation. My daughter was not asked what she wanted, and I had to clarify once we had gotten all the way to the check out, that she would be ordering her own food separately. Lack of responsiveness from server was very frustrating, and the other server basically scolded me for being in the way of her customer. I paid 80$ for 4 people's food. Crazy for a bowl of rice and chopped vegetables. I liked the food, but not worth the price and frustrating experience. I felt like they didn't care about me even being there, which if they are going to charge such a ridiculous amount they should at least say thank you.
google avatar

Alan H.

Yelp
There were no salads designed explicitly for vegans, but one person made their own salad and the other subbed out chicken for tofu. The ingredients were fresh and plentiful. My one suggestion is that the quality of the bread could be improved. I DO appreciate that they used compostable bowls.
google avatar

Chara B.

Yelp
Ugh.. I love love love sweetgreens! Yes, it is a little bit more of an expensive salad but i tell ya.. it is pretty worth it in my opinion. I love the kale caesar salad. I usually add extra chicken and do crutons instead of the parm crisps. Hits every single time. This location is always well stocked, very friendly staff as well. All the ingredients are fresh and organic so you can't miss with that. Definitely go here at least 1x a month!

Yelp
Hey everyone! To start off, out of all the salad chains, Sweetgreen is by far my favorite. The salads taste like an actual meal, their prices are decent, and the employees are great. My top two salads are their guacamole greens and bbq chicken salad (which used to be a summer seasonal salad, but finger crossed it will become a main menu item). Their chicken tastes good, which is important because it's a main component of most of the salads that I order. I honestly don't like their goat cheese though , so I haven't gotten a salad with that for awhile. Lastly, they mix the salad for you and give a piece of complimentary bread. Their prices aren't bad for the salads. I believe the bbq chicken salad was $14.50 after taxes. The portions are also pretty big (depending on which worker you get making your salad), and the Edina location as well as all of the others in MN are super clean and nice to eat in.
google avatar

Yelp
The crispy rice bowl!!!! Soooo good. This is a fabulous lunch spot. The portions are very generous and will leave you feeling full all day. The space is stunning -- modern, bright, clean. Not a lot of indoor seating unfortunately. I ordered my bowl and paid within 2 minutes. Quick ordering! A great healthy option in the Edina area! Note: the parking situation isn't great. Give yourself extra time to find a spot in the busy lot.
google avatar

SeriousLy Y.

Yelp
Was great NOW over-priced for what you get. I actually like these salads, Especially when they first opened in the galleria. But just like everything else, they decided to get full of their hype and "shrank the size" of their already expensive salads. What started out as a nice daytime option for lunch became a fight at the counter to get a portion size I was used to. I even complained "if you want to charge a little more for my salad - It was ok. But left to their own devices they put a scant about of ingredients in that large bowl. First they shrank the bowl. Then they brought the original bowl back and put in less ingredients? - come on son..!! "a Man has to Eat"
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
The food is good- hot honey plate, crispy chicken salad and Buffalo chicken bowl. But we ordered it twice this weekend and has been wrong each time!! I ordered the crispy chicken salad and Buffalo chicken bowl specifically for the chopped pickles (thought it sounded so cool, LOL) and BOTH times on two separate orders the pickles were missing. My husband ordered extra dressing and that was also missing. A place like this really needs consistency and predictability- if it wasn't missing these things I could give higher rating but it honestly was so annoying that we are hesitant to order again. Additionally our delivery was 20 minutes past the delivery window- not a huge deal but enough that it mattered in combination with the order errors.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm so psyched to have a sweetgreen in our state--and feel lucky the first is in my 'hood! The restaurant itself is cute, clean, and modern. There is outdoor patio seating available. I've eaten it 5 times already since sweetgreen arrived in Edina, and here are my thoughts: I love these freakin' salads. They're fresh. The ingredients are high quality and PACKED with flavors (nothing is worse than a bland salad). They have lots of seasonal offerings. The side of sweet potatoes and the dressings--both the green goddess ranch and the honey mustard--are to die for. The one hiccup: they seem to be really struggling with delivery. Each time we've ordered for delivery at work they've forgotten something: drinks, cutlery, etc. and/or it's taken 1-2+ hours to receive. I'm still giving them 5 stars because the customer service team was lovely and so helpful!
google avatar

Hannah W.

Yelp
Was so excited to see the news that Sweetgreen was finally coming to Minnesota! Was literally counting down the days until they opened. I've previously been to some of their locations in LA and Chicago and absolutely fell in love. I never knew salads could taste so good. This trip was no different! I got the Guacamole Greens with a few additions and my partner got the Hot Honey Chicken. I loved that they provided a good amount of avocado and lime in the Guacamole Greens and the chicken in the Hot Honey Chicken was so juicey! Excited to come back here again and get to try some of their other amazing looking bowls.
google avatar

Natalie Y.

Yelp
Finally the first one in the Twin Cities! I have been waiting, after having it all the time in LA! Just as good as all the other chains, service pretty smooth, quick, and attentive for being brand spanking new! The best salad chain in US in IMO and will be the best in Twin Cities!
google avatar

Dana W.

Yelp
The hummus crunch with salmon is delicious. It is fresh, crisp, and nice mixture of flavors. Even the sauce was refreshing especially after a nice workout. My daughter loved her chicken ranch and rice bowl and we substituted the rice for sweet potatoes and apples on the side. It was exactly what she wanted.

Skyler D.

Yelp
I was visiting from out of town and trying to eat healthy. I ordered the hot honey chicken and miso glazed salmon dishes, one for lunch and one for dinner. Both were delicious and nutritious! They kept me full and looked to have the right balance of macros in them. I think next time I would order double protein on the salmon.
google avatar

Kelsey K.

Yelp
It is so nice to have a healthy choice near me! A fresh salad bowl is something I crave here and there and sweet green is the place I chose. I placed an order for pickup here. There is 15minute parking spots right outside so you don't have to worry about fighting the mall traffic parking. It is busy in the area and worried about this. You don't have to walk in the mall either. There's a front entrance right into Sweetgreen and a designated online order pickup spot. I tried the harvest bowl and was so amazed by the flavors! Such a great combo of sweetness from the sweet potatoes, balsamic and apples. All combined with the pungent taste of the goat cheese. Definitely will be going back!
google avatar

Taylor M.

Yelp
People have been raving about sweetgreen! My friends have said nonstop good things about it since it opened, so I was so excited to try! The store front and inside is very clean and aesthetically pleasing. The service was a little slow, but I think they're still getting into their grove as they just recently opened! I got the elote bowl which was good! The one thing I didn't love was that the greens weren't chopped up at all. I love green and the grain for that exact reason - everything is chopped up to be the same size. I wish the greens were cut up a little smaller. BUT that's my biggest and really only complaint! If you are in the Edina area or at the galleria, you should decibels stop by to try sweetgreen!
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
I've been excitedly waiting for SweetGreen to open for weeks and finally got to try it yesterday! I got the Harvest Bowl and it was AMAZING. I devoured the whole thing and was full for hours (which usually isn't the case when I have a salad). It tasted so good and fresh, and the staff were also awesome! Everyone was really friendly and helpful as I figured out how the store worked for the first time. There are so many more bowls and salads I want to try so I'll definitely be back to try more!!! I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for somewhere healthy to eat.
google avatar

Raj D.

Yelp
There is a hope that we all eat healthy and businesses like sweetgreens can thrive. The staff is really sweet. The options are quite good. I chose a harvest and my friend chose the avacado one. See that's how we remember these things. Was it good? Mine was spectacular. Hers was good enough that a non salad person like her said let's do this again!
google avatar

Raedean F.

Yelp
An affordable healthy "fast-food" place! A newer greens restaurant offering a variety of healthy salad & bowl entrees. The Harvest bowl is balanced as well as hearty, while the Buffalo Chix salad has the right amount of kick! Available for dine-in, take out and delivery through DoorDash. Located in the Galleria mall where there is plenty of free parking.
google avatar

Macari M.

Yelp
Wonderful options! If your looking for great food I would recommend. Sweetgreen does have more options other than salads, I would try their hot plates :)
google avatar

Daniel T.

Yelp
I have been to sweetgreen many times in New York City and Chicago, so I was SO excited to hear that we were getting sweetgreen in Minnesota! This place has the best salads I've ever eaten and is even better than the local salad place here (Crisp & Green). Highly recommend! And no they didn't ask me to post this, I just really really love this place.

Christa H.

Yelp
Great place! Bring back the elote bowl! Workers are so nice as well! Good summer lunch option, we usually take it to go

Jeff K.

Yelp
You will get plenty of salad and the ingredients are specifically sourced from reputable farms. Liked the two salads we tried and would like to try a few more specialty salads. I think you can build your own too. Really delicious for a chain store. Did not disappoint.

Da B.

Yelp
My husband ordered and picked up a Miso Glazed Salmon for me and the store forgot the actual salmon. Additionally, you can't even call the store for issues like this. The automated call takes forever, and the only option they allow is to text with their customer service care team. I'm beyond disappointed since it's ridiculous to forget the actual entrée in a plate. Honestly, the rice is all smushed together, and there were random beans (I think?) that weren't part of the order. For the price of this place, I expect better. After reaching out to customer service, they were really understanding and eventually refunded my order after trying to offer a reward/discount first, so I adjusted my review to reflect that.

Sean R.

Yelp
Too many mistakes- two separate takeout orders of Kale Caesar, one missing the dressing and the second missing the chicken completely. Customer service options on the app offer limited recourse. Have to check every takeout order now before leaving.
google avatar

Rico R.

Yelp
Ugh! Why in the world I thought they could do it better than Crisp & Green, shame on me! Went today, bad menu positioning (can't read it from the end of the line), veggies are obviously not fresh cut on the premises, flavorless dressing, etc. Just not what I'd expected and hoped for. Guess that's what happens when you allow yourself to think the veggies are greener on the other side..... Thanks Crisp & Green!!!
google avatar

Katherine W.

Yelp
I've been here twice since they opened and I thoroughly enjoyed their salads. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The sweet potato side dish was tasty as well. The location at the Galleria is perfect because you can access the restaurant without going inside the mall. It sure beats hospital food which is my closest option at this time.

Jose U.

Yelp
Ordered the Miso Bowl, Shroomami, Chicken Pesto Parm great healthy option but expensive for 3 bowls of salad.
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
Their food is delicious but the wait time for to-go orders is not good. Several cars with hazard light blinkers on waiting by the curb for their to-go order to be ready since the parking lot is full. This is at least in part because sweet green is late with fulfilling orders. Mine was scheduled to be ready by 12pm but wasn't ready until 12:15pm. Very frustrating.
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
First visit for us and we most certainly will be back.We tried several different bowls and all were really tasty. Super fresh ingredients and very reasonably priced. The young man who assisted us was very helpful and friendly. Great overall vibe!
google avatar

Jon K.

Yelp
I know it's new and popular now but my to go order said what time to arrive and I was there then. The walk up to go window has no buzzer or alarm to tell them someone is waiting. Went inside and waited 15 minutes then left with out my order couldn't wait any longer. Don't get Togo.

Jeff W.

Yelp
Not cheap but just incredible quality salads. Everything so fresh and delicious!!! Kind workers as well!

Jen P.

Yelp
Employees are SO nice. The salads are amazing and it's a great place to meet a friend for a healthy fun outdoor lunch

Lisa S.

Yelp
It's too bad they kept the same staff when they changed this restaurant from Woody's to Brazin. Went on a Friday night. Our waiter was rude and the service was super slow. Our food was not good. The bowl was quite spicy and it was not advertised as such. The flatbread was flat. The pulled pork mac and cheese was fantastic--best part of the evening. Good friends of ours came in shortly after us and sat in a different section. They won't be returning. They also reported rude wait staff, wrong food orders, and terrible service.

K M.

Yelp
Do not use the mobile app to order ahead. We placed an order and left without our salads after waiting an hour. Dozens of people that walked in were served while mobile orders waited. Asked if we could just get in line and cancel the order but were told it wasn't possible. Notified that order was ready an hour and 15 min after order was placed.... for a fast food salad.

Pam H.

Yelp
Disappointing 2nd visit to this location. Unfriendly staff. They were out of almonds,3 different dressings and focaccia bread. Tables were dirty and seating area was a mess. We attempted to eat here last night, but there was a sign in the door saying "come back in 5 minutes". This was about 6:00 pm. After about 10+ minutes, we went somewhere else. The only reason I gave it a 3 star is because the food they did have was pretty good. Ingredient ratios were way different from the last time I was here and ordered the same bowl. I may try a different location. Photo is of the Avocado Greens bowl - not the best presentation.

Olga L.

Yelp
It was exactly what I expected, amazing food and you feel so good after! Give it a try if you're looking for something healthy this is the spot

B R.

Yelp
Nothing better! Organic and fresh.. nice to finally have a Sweet Green presence in Minnesota. There is no competition - obvi this concept was completely copied here! Boo! Can't wait for more Sweet Green!
