Power Lunch Spot Sweetgreen Puts Down Roots at Westfield UTC - Eater San Diego

"After landing at the Beacon La Costa in early 2022, nationally-known salad chain Sweetgreen is officially opening its second outpost in San Diego, this time at Westfield UTC. For every meal sold on Tuesday, May 23, the new restaurant will be donating a meal to the Jacob & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and hosting giveaways for guests like floral arrangements from Encinitas shop UnTethered Flowers and cold brew coffee from local outfit Cargo Cafe. Operating daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., the 2,293-square-foot UTC location also has a small outdoor patio. Specializing in seasonal bowls and salads like its popular harvest bowl or kale Caesar, the chain, which counts tennis phenom Naomi Osaka among its investors, is planning to open a number of additional stores in San Diego. More are coming to North County, including a branch at Del Mar Highlands Town Center and 4SCommons." - Candice Woo

This is probably the worst Sweetgreen in San Diego. The majority of employees don't even though how to make the things on the menu and they constantly miss key ingredients (Avocado in the Guacamole Greens bowl). It's also extremely frustrating of how much chicken and ingredients they put in the bowls. My two scoops of chicken in a protein plate were like half scoops and the overall bowl is so small and embarrassing. They didn't even have chicken one time and said it would take 40 minutes to cook. They also didn't offer any substitutions and even said it would cost extra. Completely ridiculous. I don't know who is running this place. Other locations are not like this.

So I came for the ice cream next door, and after seeing the long line, I decided to eat first. So we came into sweetgreen and I am so glad we did! I loved very single bite. Nice and healthy, fresh, and with a ton of flavor. They have popular items listed if you can modify and pick your own toppings. Bowls, salads they are all great! This is great for a post workout or if you are just wanting a healthier choice. Even though I did get the ice cream after…

This is one of the worst places to eat in. Many times they miss ingredients in the order and you have to come back to add. Also, they are very cheap in the protein. They barely add any chicken to the plates and when you ask for additional protein with payment it is even worse. Situation was much better when they opened but now it is unfortunately bad.

The steak plate was almost $20, but the food was extremely disappointing. The steak was abnormally salty, and it tasted like it was steamed (very different from how it looks like on the ad). It had the worst texture/flavor. Even the sweet potatoes were salty somehow. The quality and the portion is not worth $20. The service also was pretty underwhelming. I was just standing waiting for someone to even talk to me for 15 minutes. After I got the food, the lid wasn't even covered properly so i had to press it against the bowl so it won't spill. The person who gave me was clearly aware of it because he tried to cover it up again, but it didn't do much. It would've been better if I was given some bag at least if the lid won't close properly. I won't visit the place ever again.

The portions were smaller than I've had at other locations. Two ingredients were missing from my custom order bowl. Their online order website needs better security. Someone tried to make fraudulent charges to my credit card after I added it to the rewards account.

I’ve been missing sweetgreen ever since I left NYC so I was so excited they finally opened shop in San Diego. The food was just as good as I remember it and the employees were much more helpful and friendly than at their east coast locations (not surprisingly). The salads and bowls here make eating healthy a treat, not a chore. Everything is flavorful and fresh. Plus the atmosphere is bright and refreshing.

Don’t get the bad reviews in this place. We have been several times and the food quality and service never disappoint us. Good portions, tons of options, super fresh veggies every time and immaculate service. The Rosemary of focaccia and the crispy rice bowl are a must.

I ordered the chicken buffalo salad because it was marketed as “high protein”. However there were only five little pieces of chicken in the whole salad.
