Power Lunch Spot Sweetgreen Puts Down Roots at Westfield UTC - Eater San Diego

"After landing at the Beacon La Costa in early 2022, nationally-known salad chain Sweetgreen is officially opening its second outpost in San Diego, this time at Westfield UTC. For every meal sold on Tuesday, May 23, the new restaurant will be donating a meal to the Jacob & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and hosting giveaways for guests like floral arrangements from Encinitas shop UnTethered Flowers and cold brew coffee from local outfit Cargo Cafe. Operating daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., the 2,293-square-foot UTC location also has a small outdoor patio. Specializing in seasonal bowls and salads like its popular harvest bowl or kale Caesar, the chain, which counts tennis phenom Naomi Osaka among its investors, is planning to open a number of additional stores in San Diego. More are coming to North County, including a branch at Del Mar Highlands Town Center and 4SCommons." - Candice Woo

Great food, very healthy. Only thing I wish was better was the portion. I know it’s for healthy and therefore, portions are a certain size but for the cost, bigger portion would be appreciated. Love the customizable plates and bowls.

I just received my salad bowl from Sweetgreen La Jolla and was really disappointed. Not only were the portions super small—the bowl was barely filled—but the wild rice was undercooked to the point that I almost broke a tooth. I’ve always loved Sweetgreen and make a point to grab it whenever I’m in the Bay Area, so this experience was a major letdown. It sucks to see similar reviews below — clearly I’m not the only one having this issue. Hoping this location can step it up and deliver the quality Sweetgreen it is known for.

Only been to this SweetGreen and it's ok. Concept is cool and ingredients are fine. The biggest problem is the slow service. They will have tons of people in the back doing prep but hardly anyone in the front serving. The worst part is there will be a line and no sense of urgency. I only come here because it's one of the healthier options. Update: Stopped by for a pickup order, asked to omit one item and it was still on there. The cherry tomatoes were ok today but sometimes they're bad and don't even get me started on the pickled onions that aren't even pickled most of the time. The kicker is the tables were dirty and trash was full.

this is basically my go to now. overall very good. I don’t think people realize how their supply chain works. The margin is lower because they have a bigger kitchen and all of the food are freshly processed in the kitchen, which is dramatically different from many other food chain, where US food delivers all the ingredients that are already processed to some extent.

Actually, the worst sweet green to ever exist... They have staffing issues, food issues, and everything in between. Jodi, one of the employees, needs to be fired immediately. I said what I wanted in my bowl, and she put the wrong ingredients in multiple times. Which caused her to have to remake my bowl three separate times. I specifically said no rice, and she put rice in after I told her I didn't want it. I've had her make my salad on multiple separate occasions, and she's incompetent. The other staff just stay in the back, leaving one person to deal with the entire line, causing delays and them to rush you through your order, which causes mistakes and the salad not being made well. The food is often overcooked or has little to no flavor. It's not worth spending your money here.

So I came for the ice cream next door, and after seeing the long line, I decided to eat first. So we came into sweetgreen and I am so glad we did! I loved very single bite. Nice and healthy, fresh, and with a ton of flavor. They have popular items listed if you can modify and pick your own toppings. Bowls, salads they are all great! This is great for a post workout or if you are just wanting a healthier choice. Even though I did get the ice cream after…

Very disappointing service. Had higher expectations given that this place is known to sell pricey salads and bowls, but ended up waiting around 25 minutes to be serviced (only one person with one order was in front of us). The staff who put our order together also literally plopped our food in the bowl. Like some of the food splattered out of the bowl, and don’t even get me started on how the end product looked like (similar to how it would look if it was vomited - to put it in the nicest way possible). If you want to try sweetgreen, I recommend going to another location, or ordering online to not deal with such disappointing quality of service. This made McDonald’s seem to have premium service.

I’ve been missing sweetgreen ever since I left NYC so I was so excited they finally opened shop in San Diego. The food was just as good as I remember it and the employees were much more helpful and friendly than at their east coast locations (not surprisingly). The salads and bowls here make eating healthy a treat, not a chore. Everything is flavorful and fresh. Plus the atmosphere is bright and refreshing.
