I was so excited when my friend told me this place had just opened. There is a dearth of good Asian food & bakeries in Asheville, in general, so I was stoked to try this place out.
Price: on the pricier side, especially for the bubble tea, but not much different than other upscale Asian bakeries I've been to (ie, TOUS les JOURS)
Atmosphere: decor is beautiful and clean. Looks small when you first enter but there is a larger seating area around the corner on the right
Food: I got the mango cream cake, green tea cream puff, macaroons (passionfruit & green tea), and a chocolate mousse cake. The mango cream cake is SO good. I'm love the light and fluffy texture of Asian cakes, and the cream is not sickeningly sweet like American pastries are. It has just the right amount of sugar added. The macaroons are decent but not the best. The green tea cream puff is delicious! I wish they made it in a bigger size like I've had in NYC.
Drinks: taro milk tea with tapioca = delicious. They don't use real taro but most places don't; however, I thought the taste was great and the bubbles were chewy and great consistency. It was on the pricier side of $7 with the tapioca pearls, but a lot of other places charge similar prices (ie, A-Ci Tea). There's only one size but I thought they did a really good job. They did not ask for the sweetness level though, but it was a good amount of sweetness for me. I don't normally like super sweet things though so this might not be sweet enough for most people. But for us Asians, it is perfect!
Service: I came midday on a Monday, so it wasn't busy with only a few people in line before me. They've only been open for a few weeks, so I think they are still trying to figure it out. The girl who took my order was very nice but was still trying to figure out the register when ringing certain items up. I got my pastries and bubble tea within several minutes. I'm sure it'll be busier on weekends, especially while the staff is still starting to get the hang of things.
Overall: Being Chinese, I feel like I can say this place is on pointe.
I highly recommend to check it out if you are visiting Asheville or or local and happen to be downtown! I'm so glad to see more and more Asian places popping up! :)
