Amsterdam Repurposes Decommissioned Bridge Houses Into Tiny House Hotels - AFAR

"The oldest of the converted bridge houses, originally built in 1673, it sits in the middle of the Amstel River and remains reachable only by boat, offering a historic, highly distinctive canal experience." - Lyndsey Matthews

It was such a nice location and a clean room but extremely cold. The heater was weak, the heat was too little. It ruins the experience.

I booked this location as an introduction to proposing to my girlfriend. A unique location (6 stars') in the center of Amsterdam. Also for us as 'Amsterdammers'. And a magnificent view of the Amstel, the Magere Brug and countless boats that pass by. Everything was well organized and in order. A very beautiful location, beautifully finished and fully equipped. We really enjoyed it, my girlfriend for whom it was a surprise, was completely confused and didn't talk about anything else all afternoon. The breakfast (when ordered) was also delicious, including croissants, yogurt and juice. In short, the whole stay was a great success. And, oh yes, we are getting married :)

Gorgeous house on the most isolated and at the same time most central spot in Amsterdam! Great place to celebrate a special occasion. The kitchen is nice. Cooking is an option. We brought takeout. The view from the bed is awesome. We watched the boats float by while we fell asleep. You can also close the shutters, but that kind of ruins the effect ;-)

We imagined a stay at Amstelschutsluis would be memorable, and it was—the perfect little house on a lock. What we didn't anticipate was how warm and insightful the boat captains would be. They brought our time in Amsterdam to life as we chatted while they ferried us to and from. We travel a lot, but this visit stands out.

Perfect stay! The staff of SWEETS Hotels is very helpful and they decorated the house beautifully for our special occasion. This really is a must stay for everyone who's looking for a very special place in the middle of Amsterdam. Even for us living in Amsterdam it was like we we really on holiday in our own city. Very special :)!

THE PROS: Amstelschutsluis is one of the most magical places we've ever spent the night. Genuinely impressive and once-in-a-lifetime. Tastefully decorated and good facilities. THE CONS: The hotel tried to charge 150EU for an additional return boat crossing of the canal, a ~30m trip that takes less than a minute but is necessary to get to the building. Reduced to EU40 per trip following my protest, but still outrageous - even EU10 would've been a stretch. Had I known in advance, I wouldn't have booked. In what world is that a reasonable price? A pretty shameless rip-off, really put a damper on the whole experience for us.

In my opinion, this is one of the most romantic places you can find in Amsterdam. You are on your island in the city of Amsterdam. Boats are passing, a view of the Amtel Hotel, Royal Theater Carré, and the lovely tradition Amsterdam Houses. Het sluishuisje has all facilities of a luxury apartment, so enjoying an evening cooking in your own little house would be a recommendation from my side. Waking up the next morning, opening the sheds, switching on the oven and following the instructions from @coffeeconcepts gives you probably the most romantic breakfast you can have… After having an idealistic evening and morning and leaving by boat (the way you have arrived), it will give you a memory of what you are looking for.

We had the pleasure of staying in the Amstelschutsluis twice. Once in winter and once in summer. A magical experience. Your own private island in the middle of Amsterdam. Top notch service all around. The only critique is the fact that you have to leave at the end of your stay...
