The Manhattan Bar Directory

"We’re pretty sure no one uses the word “lounge” to describe bars anymore, but it seems appropriate for Sweetwater Social. This is a big, below-ground spot that tends to have a lot of action at peak times, and it’s best used for larger groups. Bonus: you can play shuffleboard here." - katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg

My server was amazing. She gave me space to think about what I wanted and also gave good recommendations. I like the restaurant because she respected my space. Food is not bad here. I tried something new. I found out I like something and I dislike something. Overall, good vibe !!

Google
Service was great food was even better. Definitely try out the French Toast!! Fresh fruits and overall a bagging French Toast. Took pictures of my steak with scrambled eggs, salad, and french fries. Was also amazing!

WOW WOW WOW! This place is THE BEST IN WILLIAMSBURG. Super cool, relaxed, old skool vibes with a really hip atmosphere Our server Stephanie was INCREDIBLE. The warmest, fun, easy going person, who went above and beyond We LOVED the calamari, I had the lentil burger (insanely good) and the drinks were all perfect. Cannot recommend enough. A must visit if you’re going to Williamsburg And no, I’m not being paid to post this lol!

A hidden gem for brunch! Sweetwater is such a lovely spot! We sat in the garden out back, which was peaceful and perfectly cooled with outdoor fans. I had the eggplant omelette (without goat cheese), served with a fresh salad and soft, perfectly seasoned home fries—everything was delicious. The cucumber lime drink was incredibly refreshing, and I got to try a dessert from a nearby bakery owned by the restaurant’s owner, which was a nice bonus. The staff were all so friendly and made us feel right at home. My friend and I are legally blind and felt very comfortable and well accommodated. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!

Google
Ordered the tuna nicoise salad and the tuna tasted like it had been frozen for a number of days. Wasn’t very good. The service was good otherwise. Was quiet during lunch on a weekday.

Yelp
I rolled up for a brunch on an insanely rainy Sunday afternoon (about 12pm). The restaurant itself is so, so beautiful. It's just got such a great atmosphere. The inside is cozy and warmly lit and it just feels like a beautiful local spot that I'd go to often if I lived closer by. We sat on the back patio which was covered although the rain was so relentless it did kind of sneak its way through every now and then. If it's a torrential downpour the day you're planning to go, I'd ask for an indoor seat. But the food was really, really tasty. I got a crab cake with poached egg on top which was different and AMAZING. The crab cake sat on a little dollop of garlic aioli which will pretty much make anything better and served as a great sauce for the home fries too. Everyone was really happy with the taste and the portions were really big, so you get an out 2 meals for what you pay. Service was attentive even when it got crazy busy. I'd definitely go back and it's a fun spot for a big crew for brunch!

Yelp
Ty was amazing! Food was great and really good ambience. Was still warm with the heater even though it was cold.

Yelp
truly disappointing. I have not been back to Sweetwater in a few years, and was excited to return. It was a truly disappointing experience. The food was not good. The service was lackluster. The ambiance was loud and not charming. The only claim to fame of this place is its pristine Williamsburg location. I ordered the French Toast. It came with 2 slices of banana, 4 blueberries, and a confusing amount of grapes. Yes, grapes, cut in half. I am not a toddler. Grapes are not listed on the menu, and seemed like a decorative attempt to conceal the lack of advertised ingredients. The toast was caramelized on the outside, but barely lukewarm and stale on the inside. My dining companion ordered the Croque Monsieur, sans ham. We were told it would be impossible to remove the ham. This elevated my spidey senses: the only reason removing ham would be impossible is if the CM was premade & reheated. My partner went with the Eggs Benedict instead w/ avocado. The muffins supporting the benedict were not toasted or even warmed. We were happy knowing that at least the eggs had to be cooked to order. I was embarrassed to invite someone to Sweetwater, and will not be returning.

Yelp
Came here for a party of 7 on a Saturday night and got seated in the back patio area which had a very cute vibe to it. We wanted wine that was similar to a Sauvignon Blanc and were recommended the Garnacha which was very good. The bread and olive oil that came out was a good start to the meal. I ordered the Mushroom and Spinach Cannelloni which I really enjoyed. I would say out of all the entrees that were ordered (Hanger Steak, Ribeye, Half Roasted Chicken) it was the smallest portion, but it was good. The other portion sizes were pretty generous. For dessert, we tried Sweetwater's version of a chocolate lava cake which was okay. It was nothing special. Overall, good vibes and good food

Yelp
The staff was great and wanted to keep us there all night long. The location is lovely and I'd definitely be down to come for a night out of drinks instead of dinner. We ordered the fish, burger & lamb burger. The fries on the two burgers looks like when you and I microwave up leftover fries. We all know Fries don't come home with you because they're impossible to make crispy outside the restaurant. Clearly Sweetwater never mastered the crispiness since these were the limpest fries I've seen in my entire life. My lamb burger also tasted a bit off, and I wished the burgers were served on real buns instead of a Thomas English Muffin. Please save those for your breakfast sandwiches, no one wants them with their dinner. My friend enjoyed his Fish, so it seems like they have some good dishes on the menu.

Yelp
Came here with a friends on Saturday around 4pm. We ordered the steak and eggs, fried chicken sandwich, sangria and a lavender mint lemonade. It took a really long time for our food and drinks to come. There was only one bartender but we waited over 20 mins just for the drinks alone, both of which were not good. However, the food more than made up for it, even though once again a long wait. My eggs were fluffy, soft and flavorful that I was raving about it as soon as I ate it. The steak was tender and the chimmichuri sauce went well with it. My friend really enjoyed her chicken sandwich as well. Overall, I would come back for brunch but I wouldn't get drinks from here.

Yelp
It's okay. I think overpriced, due to the area it's in. Ambiance is cozy and like a neighborhood restaurant. I got the Sweetwater Burger which was fine. I don't like how it was on an English muffin. The patty is thick and juicy and the muffin is too thin for it. It reminds me of burgers I make at home where I use two slices of bread when I run out of buns. Service was bad and inattentive. The booths are uncomfortable and you can feel every movement from the people sitting behind you. If the person behind you is particularly movement prone, you're going to have a bad time.

Yelp
Came here with a few friends for brunch and sat outside. It was quite hot and I was craving something fresh and refreshing. This watermelon salad did just that. Super flavorful with the feta, olives and pickled onions. Would definitely come back again and try other dishes when in Williamsburg.

Yelp
10 out of 10! We sat outdoors in an adorable back room garden area that I would totally recommend. The indoor area is a different vibe completely, more dimly lit and American bar style (but still cute). Service was awesome, we had a lovely hostess and waitress AND chef who were attentive and fun. Food was also amazing, the burrata special was out of this world! Lamb burger was great too.

Yelp
Sweetwater was recommended to my by a local at Brooklyn Brewery, and I'm so glad I went on my last day here. From the moment I walked in, the service was unparalleled; multiple waiters checked in on me while I was waiting for the rest of my party, and offered to bring drinks or appetizers while I waited. Our waiter continuously checked in on us to make sure we had enough drinks and the food was tasting alright. One employee even entertained us with ghost stories about the restaurant after we asked how long the restaurant had been open. The food was amazing! For appetizers we had the calamari and french onion soup. The calamari was fried to perfection; it wasn't chewy or rubbery, it simply melted in your mouth. The french onion soup was exquisite as well. For my main dish, I ordered the chicken curry stew. The chicken thigh was extremely tender, the vegetables were soft, and the rice was perfect. I got to try everyone else's dish as well; long story short, everything was immaculate. The lamb shank and both steaks were extremely tender, the onion rings that accompanied the hangar steak were crispy even after they started to cook down, and the garlic frites with the ribeye were extremely flavorful. The ambiance tied everything together. The moody lighting, classic wooden tables and chairs, and beautiful floor and roof tiling make you feel like you're royalty, and the food and service definitely add to that. If you're in Brooklyn I would highly suggest giving this place a visit, I will definitely be back next time I'm in NYC!

Yelp
Been at least 5 times. Each time the service and food stands out. It's absolutely my favorite place in Brooklyn.
google avatar

Taylor K.

Yelp
I was very impressed by this place! I got the grilled hanger steak which was slightly over cooked but the sauce it was in was delicious. The onion rings were lightly battered, not too greasy. The broccoli rabe was a bit too bitter and the serving was large compared to everything else on the plate. They also gave us free bread. The service was quick and kind. They have inside and outside seating options, including an outside heated patio.
google avatar

Kels K.

Yelp
Highly recommend!! Food was delicious especially the lamb parpadelle & our waiter Ty was super fun and friendly!
google avatar

Deanna M.

Yelp
"Food was great, vibes were immaculate, pen is bad for writing" The back garden area is adorable I would suggest sitting back there as the inside seating looked a little dark and crowded. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
Natalie and Bryan were personable during my visit. Love the drinks and the dessert that had the Oreo crust is a must lol.
google avatar

Yelp
Honestly the ambiance was lovely I love the cozy vibes inside perfect for date night and the backyard during the warm weather is a great space. The service that they provided is very attentive and lovely. The appetizer was delicious but for me the entrees were lacking in flavor and could use a little boost. But overall a lovely place.

Yelp
We were in the area for a concert and needed to eat beforehand. We walked around and stumbled on Sweetwater so we decided to go in. They had open tables in the back but they were together so the hostess asked us to wait a minute while she separated them. We then noticed open seats at the bar so we decided to sit there. The bartenders were very attentive. All the staff were super nice. They gave us a bottle of water which I like because I drink a lot of water when eating. We got our drinks and both order the cheeseburger. Great burger, fries and salad. The salad was a nice addition. The onions on the burger were super tasty. We both very much enjoyed our meal. It's a very cute place. We're glad we decided to eat here for dinner.
google avatar

Jack L.

Yelp
The place really isn't bad. But just was just expecting more personality from the dishes provided. The staff is quite quick and nice. Venue could have more character and a few more heaters for the outside tables. When it comes to the food, I think this where they lack. The lamb burger did not have much flavor that makes it stand out as using lamb meat. And lamb usually has a pretty strong distinctive flavor. So it really made the majority of the meal unimpressive. But I would say the lentils were surprisingly filling by the time I had left the table. The fries were not as crispy and seasoned as they could have been. There's a lot of potential that could've been explored here and I hope they tap into it more.

Yelp
Delicious brunch in williamsburg. The servers are friendly and the food is good. I had their fish tacos which came as a set of 3 tacos. I thought ut was delicious and well seasoned. We also ordered their calamari to share. It was a big serving of calamari. Its a bit on the dimmer side inside the restaurant but they also do have outdoor dining available.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is amazing. Awesome food, drinks and staff. Oh and amazing music and history as well. Highly recommend it. Will be our new fave spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Bit pricey. The food was alright. I had the Sweetwater burger and it was okay. My boyfriend enjoyed his vegan lentil burger.
google avatar

Danny R.

Yelp
Food was so good that we went for brunch and dinner in the same day. Staff was professional and courteous. If you sit in the garden it is nice and quiet.
google avatar

Emi B.

Yelp
Overall 3.5 star for the food I think. We got both Hanger Steak and Rib Eye medium rare. Came a bit too rare. Taste was meaty not much flavor and sauce within. Carrot Side - also a bit lack in flavor and probably need to cook longer so it's not hard. Fries was very good LOL! Shrimp was really good as well, meaty juicy and fresh. Radicchio Salad was good. Bruschetta Smoked Salmon was not memorable but acceptable.
google avatar

Emilia G.

Yelp
When we got to the restaurant, we were served with a variety of fresh bread! I got the special, which was pappardelle with a lamb ragu sauce and burrata and it was delicious. I also got a side of truffle Parmesan fries, which were also tasty! Also the outdoor garden dining area has a very nice vibe to it. Service was pretty good too.
google avatar

Yelp
My first time here and the food was great. Friendly service. I'm allergic to soy and they cook with Canola and know ingredients. Shabby chic ambiance. Fun spot, will be back for fries!
google avatar

Leemor Y.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in plain site. It's a great brunch place that isn't usually too busy. They have a great outdoor patio. I split a salmon eggs Benny and the crab cake (homemade), and they hit the brunch craving. One tip: if you order the eggs Benny with salmon, they oddly still come with bacon so you have to specify you don't want bacon.

Yelp
Great location. Lovely outdoor set-up. Slightly above average food. My friends and I shared 3 main dishes family-styled. We had the Lentil Burger, Mushroom Risotto and Fish of the Day. First off, why are the burgers served on English muffins? That's like the least favorite of all the breads. The rest of it was decent--nothing to rave about. Because the gooey cheese and the integrity of the English muffin, it was difficult to add the greens inside the burger (which is what I wanted to do). Why just English muffins and a lentil patty? The Jalapeño jam was hardly jalapeño-like. I actually thought it was a tomato-based sauce e.g. homemade ketchup. The burger didn't taste bad. I think I just did not understand its concept. The risotto was pretty good. It tasted very hearty and rich; the consistency was thick and it wasn't mushy. I was scooping up that burrata in the middle. My favorite was probably the halibut, which sat on top of asparagus, eggplant, and cauliflower puree. The fish was cooked very well--soft and juicy. The skin was also nice and crispy, My only qualm about this dish was the puree. It was more of a sauce than a puree; it needed more of the grainy, gritty texture of cauliflower than just the cream and butter mix. It also needed some spice to add to the flavor profile. Like I said, it just tastes like cream and butter. All in all, food wise, I wasn't too disappointed and I enjoyed most of it. I had a nice cocktail, Pabloso, (Espolon tequila, jalapeño, peach, honey, fresh lime) to go with my meal, too. The vibez were there. I was, however, disappointed in the service. Perhaps it was an off day. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. My friends and I were constantly being rushed (despite them taking a while to start taking our order). They asked to take our plates away 3 times. When we finally allowed them to take the plates away because we finished, they almost immediately put our check down onto the table. I did not appreciate that at all, but I did not put this part of the experience into account with the rating.

Yelp
I stopped in here a couple months ago in March and I will definitely be back! From the beginning to the end, the dining experience was excellent. For starters my sister and I ordered drinks. She ordered the espresso martini which she is obsessed with and I got a lemon drop. Both drinks were proportioned perfectly between the taste and the amount of alcohol. Let me preface by stating I do not like French onion soup. My sister order the French onion soup which was THE BEST I've ever had. I probably still won't try it anywhere else but here! It was also a great size for a dinner option even though it's listed as an appetizer. I ordered a pasta dish which I can no longer find on the menu. If you've never tasted it then you missed out! I'm not sure if it was seasonal but it was full of flavor. I was craving it for the remainder of the trip. My boyfriend ordered the 1/2 roasted organic chicken with Parmesan truffle fries. He said the chicken was juicy and the flavor was exquisite. We shared the truffle fries which I could not get enough of. Needless to say our plates were clean after dinner. We ended the night with two more drinks which were even better than the first. I will warn you that it can get PRETTY loud in here but it didn't seem to bother our group. If you're looking for a delicious dinner and vibe this is the place!

Yelp
Had a late dinner here and the ambiance was great, the food was amazing and the servings were pretty hefty.

Yelp
The ambiance at Sweetwater is wonderful. The service was spectacular, the tap water was incredible and the portions, plentiful. They even have fans on the patio if you get a little warm or need to cool off a hot bite before you eat it. WITH ALL THAT SAID I MUST ADMIT THAT I DID FEEL FOOLED BY THe menu item, advertised exactly as "Crab Cakes with Poached Egg" because to my disbelief, what I was actually served was a "Crab Cake with Poached Eggs."

M m.

Yelp
Love sweet water! It's hectic and maybe a bit cacophonous. But the staff are friendly, efficient, and hard-working for sure! The lentil burger is delicious! I crave it on a regular basis. Grateful that they allow me to sub the sweet potato fries for my preferred regular fries. Cocktails are top-notch. Reservations are recommended, but if you come early enough you should be able to get a seat. (Maybe 6pm?)
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
I saw a show at Brooklyn Bowl a few weeks ago, and was looking to grab a late bite, and stumbled upon Sweetwater. I was pleasantly surprised they were open way past 10:00, later than most spots on a Sunday evening. The food and drink left nothing to be desired, and I couldn't have asked for kinder, friendlier service. I'll most certainly be back soon, and hope this place continues to thrive! :)

Matthew M.

Yelp
Steak and eggs were flavorful but i asked for medium rare and it was more medium well done. Great music and decor. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Candice S.

Yelp
Yum! While I am def a meat eater, I love when a place makes their own veggie burger and Sweetwater did not disappoint. Very flavorful lentil and black bean burger as you and see in the picture- well seasoned, moist with a crust and mushy, cause... tasty legumes! The calamari was also tender and flavorful as well. Truffle fries came with a yummy house made mayo. We sat at the cute pretty outdoor booth and it was quiet and temperate for an autumn weekday. Also, quality service- all the staff were on point, attentive and friendly!

Yelp
Sweetwater's heated outdoor garden is my new favorite spot for outdoor dining this winter. They have some seating out front on the street but their garden in the back so adorable, warm, and socially distant with plenty of open air. The drinks are lovely, I particularly liked their old fashioned, and I've tried their French onion soup, green beans, and truffle fries, all of which are great snacks to enjoy with a cocktail. My friend also loves their burger with bacon. The service here is also standout; make a reservation but we were able to get a walk in table in their garden on a Saturday evening. We were here once close to closing and they even passed out complimentary pastries to the customers. I've chatted with a few of the waitresses and they're always so friendly and lovely!
google avatar

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been to sweetwater so many times not only because it is out favorite spot to go to but also because the service is amazing. They never disappoint us!! The amount of care and love they show their customers is visible. The drinks are amazing and the food as well. Wether its brunch, lunch or dinner the food always taste great. The place is small and cozy and in the weekends it gets packed so try reserving ahead of time. Here are a few pics of our favorites!
google avatar

Syd R.

Yelp
This place had good outdoor seating in the back with some nice heaters. They also have outdoor seating in the front. Went here for brunch on a Sunday with a reservation. Definitely got more packed by the time we left. Recommend making a reservation. At one point we were waiting for a while to get our food so they brought out a free piece of strawberry cake and it was SO GOOOOD. Everything we had was all very good, including the French toast, eggs Benedict, the omelette, crab cakes with poached eggs, and the chilaquiles. All good portion sizes too. All in all a good place for brunch.
google avatar

Carol L.

Yelp
I don't usually think of English food as something I look back fondly of, but Sweetwater did fine! The outdoor seating here is so cute, and they make a delicious apérol spritz (5/5 so good!). It's in a bustling part of Williamsburg, so location is key. The food was just alright, but this may be because of my predisposition of not enjoying English food too much. This area of Williamsburg has so many things to try, so not sure I'll be back because the food was not outstanding IMO. But, solid option if in a pinch.
google avatar

Bre Y.

Yelp
I came in with a few friends for Sunday brunch. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The atmosphere is old school and cozy. We had the eggs benedict, the crab cakes, and the eggs and bacon breakfast. The eggs benedict was served with salad and potatoes and was a large portion; perfectly cooked eggs and potatoes! Only wish is there was more hollandaise! The eggs and bacon also came with potatoes and sourdough, all cooked well and well seasoned. My friend said the crab cakes with poached egg were also very satisfying. A very solid brunch and would return to try their dinner menu!

Veronica M.

Yelp
11/10. This is an awesome place - ambiance, staff, and food. We sat in the cozy back patio area and got the squash and romaine salad and octopus for starters. I got the red snapper and the rest of my family got the mushroom risotto, French onion soup, and lamb pasta. Everything was perfect. Portions were large too! I can't wait to come back here and try more things off the menu.
google avatar

Agta B.

Yelp
We stopped for an early dinner and we're seated outside in cute little private "pods". We wanted to eat outside and didn't have reservations but they accommodated us. It was highly recommended by various people so we decided to try. We started with some cold beers on a hot afternoon - selection was small but good. I looooved my mussels of the day. The broth was spicy and tangy and so good. The mussels were cooked well and the bread was crusty and perfect for dipping up all the delicious broth. The swordfish was perfectly cooked and flaky. The parsnip purée was also very yummy. Service was friendly and gave good recommendations. We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely return again because I heard that the burgers are amazing as well.
google avatar

Ferzeen P.

Yelp
One of my new fave spots in Williamsburg. The octopus was flavorful and not rubbery. The Steak was cooked to perfection! Loved the vibe of this place and Sam abs Lauren behind the bar were awesome. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Erin C.

Yelp
Love the vintage vibe of this place with their cushioned booths and lamp shades. Service is friendly and the food is delicious. We reserved a table indoors because of the weather and glad we did because of the downpour of rain. The grilled octopus, shishito peppers, watermelon feta salad were all excellent starters. The tostados were just the way I wanted them - crunchy and a mouthful of flavors -- tuna, avo, pickled onions, and some other ingredients I can't remember. My friend loved the lamb burger as she ordered it again. There were a lot of other items I would have liked to try and will definitely be back when I'm in the area and try to get a back garden seat with nice weather.

Yelp
Sooo... I was in Brooklyn for a few days visiting my friend from childhood and he took me to this lovely restaurant, which he says is his favorite. I see why. We sat on the back patio which was So Pretty. They started us out with bread (oh no carbs! #worthit). The waiter served it with balsamic and EVOO which, omg! I love it when restaurants do that. My date(?) Can I call it a date? Yes it was a date, methinks it was a date.. yay finally.. he took me on a date(screams in schoolgirl joy) . Anyways..so then we got the French onion soup --which was good but, tbh I have had better. I don't know where but now I want to go back to double check that... He got the chicken, I got the mussels. He ate all his and so did I. He actually didn't care for the mussels, said they weren't firm enough.. *Kanye shrug* I loved em, the lemony flavor of the sauce was divine. I dipped the bread in the sauce and I ended up pretty full, if I had opted for pasta I would've been way too full. Then he insisted on dessert, he got the key lime pie which normally they are out of. so I'll just say it twas me, I made the pie appear, I'm good luck ^_^ ...about the pie, well I'm not a key-lime-pie-girl but I had a taste, and it was high quality pie for sure... 5 stars, thank you SweetWater.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped here for a late brunch this weekend. Sweetwater offered a range of yummy cocktails and nice wine list. We ended up having some bloody marys and Cava, along with the avocado toast and French fries. Food came out fast and was delicious. Fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy. Multiple servers coming by to try to clear our plates when we were still eating (at least five people in the span of less than ten minutes) took away from our experience a bit.
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
I've walked by Sweetwater a bunch of times and loved the decor and thought it was super cute, but for me everything about it fell flat. Their back garden, which could be nice was covered at the time and created an extremely hot greenhouse effect that made us lightheaded. The service took forever to let us order and replenish drinks and our food took so long, a few tables came and left before we were served. The drinks were fine, nothing special. French onion soup was not good - mainly bread. Fried chicken sandwich and avocado toast tasted fine, but we were so hot by the end, all we wanted to do was finish and leave. Maybe the experience would be better if we had a better table, but the food was mediocre so I don't see myself coming back when there are so many good restaurants in NYC Follow me on instagram @eatenbysteph

Yelp
On my first trip to Williamsburg I went out looking to find a great Gin drink. Happened to pass by this restaurant and went in to look at the menu. The St Pete's Finest caught my attention so I tried it. It was amazing. I feel like the basil really sold it for me. It was very refreshing and not overpowered of gin at all. I would totally go back to order this drink again. 10/10 recommend

Yelp
I went to Sweetwater for brunch. The food was surprisingly reasonably priced for the area. However, you absolutely get what you pay for. While not bad by any means, the food didn't wow me. The food is all plated on one plate, meaning that the salad ended up coming out fairly warm.

Rosanne F.

Yelp
We recently had my son's rehearsal dinner for 34 people on the deck upstairs. The service, food, wine, ambiance and location in his neighborhood was perfect. Thanks again to the management and staff for your kindness and attention. We will continue to patronize Sweetwater as it is consistently has a great menu.

Yelp
Really wanted to love here, but my overall experience here was just ok. My friend and I ordered Ribeye Steak, Steamed Mussels and two cocktails here! The food came out fast and the waiter was really attentive. But the food was just ok. The steak was overcooked as we asked for medium and received medium well and the mussels was whatever. The drinks here are strong, but I don't really mind strong drinks so I finished mine and my friend's. The best part of my experience here was the bread. The bread was really delicious and baked perfectly. Maybe I will come here and order something else as I would just come back for some bread LOL.
