Swel - Review - Fremont - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Fremont is a pretty big area with disappointingly few options when it comes to Italian food. For a long time, there were only two sit-down restaurants to choose from. Or four, if you count that hostel with the terrible Detroit-style pizza and the billiards hall slinging mediocre slices. But we don’t. Then Swel came along, with its slightly-upscale-trattoria situation. And while it doesn’t serve the best Italian food in the world, it is a good addition to the Fremont scene. And your life, if you’re a pizza fan. Swel stands for “stuff we like to eat,” and for the most part, we agree. The menu has a mix of pastas, pizzas, salads, and small plates, as well as some non-Italian dishes like jalapeño hummus and carne asada. The pizzas, served with a delicious spicy chili oil, are definitely our favorites. They’re actually more like diamond-shaped flatbreads, with a crispy, thin crust, and fresh toppings that work really well, whether you get a simple margherita or something more involved. The salads and other entrees—like the overly garlicky caesar, the creamy but inconsistently seasoned sausage pasta, and the slightly tough French cut pork chop—are just a little bit above average. But it’s worth it to come for the pizzas alone. The space feels like something out of Pottery Barn’s summer catalogue, and would be great for a weekend night when you want to hang with friends over pizza and cocktails, rather than go out at Nectar Lounge or Ballroom and end up eating Pagliacci’s on your bathroom floor. Service is friendly, and there’s a nice back patio with picnic tables for when the weather’s warm—we could see ourselves out there with some small plates and a bottle of wine in the summertime. If you asked us to point you toward the best Italian food in Seattle, there are certainly other places we’d send you first. But if you’re in Fremont and want some tasty, upscale pizza, by all means, Swel will have stuff you like to eat, too. Food Rundown Caesar Salad This salad checks off many of the caesar boxes: ice-cold romaine, plenty of freshly-grated parmesan cheese, a great lettuce-to-dressing ratio, and well-salted crunchy croutons. However, you could ward off a vampire with the amount of raw garlic in this thing. Pizza With Fresh Mozzarella, Pepperoni, And Fresh Basil The basil here adds a freshness you don’t normally get from a pepperoni pie. The pepperoni itself has a good crispiness to it, and the crust is tasty and crunchy, too. Douse it in the homemade chili oil and you’ll be very happy. Pizza With Smoked Mozzarella, Pancetta, Red Onion, And Sweet Spicy Peppers Definitely worth ordering. The flavors here are great, and the smoked mozzarella is an interesting addition that works well with the pancetta. Rigatoni With Local Italian Sausage, Marinara, Garlic, And Cream This has that comforting quality a rich pasta should have, but it’s inconsistent. One time we came here, the noodles were slightly overcooked, and another time, the sauce had way too much oregano. French Cut Pork Chop A well-seasoned bone-in pork chop with a good sear to it - but it’s the tiniest bit too tough around the edges. The yukon gold mashed potatoes with a creamy marsala sauce, on the other hand, are perfect." - Aimee Rizzo

Emily was a great server! prompt service, kind personality & all her recommendations were great! I unfortunately didn’t picture dessert, but the flourless cake was delicious (recommended by our server Emily) & so was the Bolas Dulces. 12/10, I will be back again!

We had a somewhat rocky first visit, but I was so impressed with the food and the service that I give them 5 stars anyways. It’s a new place, opened recently, and we wanted to try it for lunch/brunch. We arrived shortly after 12, and were seated at the last empty table on the patio. We ordered drinks and brunch items and waited. It took a long time for drinks to get out, and it took a very long time to get our food. When the food initially arrived, they had somehow made the wrong item for me. I had ordered the breakfast pizza and the server attempted to give me the breakfast sandwich. When I told them I had ordered the pizza, they apologized and said they’d get it fixed. My partner got the croque madame sandwich which was beautiful and really high quality, he devoured it and looks forward to having it again. Good quality bread, proper bechamel and good quality ham, with crazy good breakfast potatoes. We did have to wait a little while while they made the new pizza, but two different servers (one could have been a manager?) came by to apologize and they brought me an additional glass of prosecco while I waited. Once the pizza arrived, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the whole thing. The crust was really tasty by itself, fresh arugula, fresh-sliced prosciutto, runny yolks on the sunny side up eggs and tomatoes that tasted like sunshine. I think it needed a teeny bit more cheese though. When the bill came, the manager comped us for both my drinks and my meal as an apology for the mistake on the order, which is very generous. They really wanted to make it right, and I was really impressed with that. I don’t think you see that very often in Seattle these days. So, in conclusion, it’s very busy at brunch but the food is STELLAR and we will be back! Maybe just give yourself extra time during Sunday brunch :)

Visited this joint a few months back, finally getting around to a review. The name jumped out at us and after giggling about it we said we had to try it out. Apparently everyone else had the same idea (it's a Saturday night). When we first arrived there wasn't an open seat in the house and the host looked like a deer in headlights when we asked for a table for 4. As we light heartedly looked at each other dejectedly, a dude walks by and says, "you can sit out back, if you like" and continues working. Mind you it is probably 45F and Seattle mist raining so I immediately laughed thinking it was joke. I asked if he was serious and he says, yeh, let me show you real quick. They escorted us to the well covered back patio and said if you want to stay, we'll get you blankets and turn on heaters for you. All of us were up for an adventure, said let's go for it and had the entire patio to ourselves. It was epic - appetizers, entrees and drinks were absolutely over the top amazing. It is one of our top 10 family outings ever. (btw, turns out the dude who invited us to sit in the back was the owner!)

Dinner at SWeL was fantastic. We started with the goat cheese appetizer, which was full of unique flavors. Both the pork chop and the sausage rigatoni were delicous entrées. To cap it off, both the chocolate mouse cake and the pear bread pudding were tasty and filling desserts. Overall, the food was rich and filling, the atmosphere was perfect for quiet dinner conversation. Definitely would go back!

Great food and service! We ordered the calamari and baked scallops for appetizers, and seafood linguine and chicken as entrées. We really enjoyed all the dishes, especially the added spiciness we requested. However, we were a bit disappointed that they ran out of oysters and pizzas, as those were the main reasons we visited. We reserved outdoor seating for New Year’s Eve. Despite the last-minute booking, we were happy with the setup. They provided heaters, music, and checked on us regularly. Our server, Madeline, made our night with her patience and smile. We truly enjoyed spending the last day of the year with Swel.

Fantastic Steak! Veggies cooked to perfection! Can’t say enough about the staff- they’re a delight and as I watched the lazy rain fall I could help but recall the cozy cafes of Paris. It’s moody and elegant at the same time. Go early to enjoy happy hr or stay late on a date both are SWeL ideas 😉

While some of the food was ok, some was not prepared as requested. After our group spent over $700 in food and drinks, we went outside to find our car blocked in. I went back inside to see if they could ask the 4 other small tables if it was their car and the waiter was nice enough to go look at the car to see the make of it. He came back in and told our waitress what I had asked and she said no. I asked her if there was a way to ask the customers if it was their car and all she said was no. We have gone to that restaurant for three years when we come for our annual summit meetings and will never return. The common decency of trying to help a customer that just paid, and paid well, was lacking and really appalling. * While I appreciate the time to get some of the information and a reply, I can give correct information. Our party was 7 people. One bill was $610.16 as mention for 6 of us. The other bill was for a couple as we could not pay for a spouse of a coworker with our company cards. We did enjoy some of the food. The items we did not, we were too exhausted to send back and wait for corrections or something else. The bartender must have come back and updated my coworker since I was out trying to help another coworker with getting out of the spot and I do really appreciate his help and his willingly to ask the customers. The waitress was at the bar and may have been making drinks but only shook her head and said no. I was not demanding or asking for immediate attention or help, only if it was possible. The bartender should definitely be recognized and commended for listening and assisting as he could. Fortunately, one of my coworkers was better at getting out of a spot that had a clearance of 6 inches. Being in DC, I do understand parking is an issue with many restaurants and bars in small areas. I did not assume it was a customer but wanted to see if it was so they could move their car - as this would have been easier especially since they were also blocking a driveway or lot entrance. I also did not say and am not blaming your business for making someone park the way they did.

Google
Food is beautiful. Staff is beyond excellent. Atmosphere is a tad too loud. We had the brioche as a starter..two pasta dishes cooked perfectly and finished with Pear Bread Pudding—excellent. Love that they brought 2 Cabernets to try! Eat here!

Yelp
Located in Fremont, this restaurant has plenty of free parking nearby, which is extremely surprising given its central location to many bus lines and close proximity to the infamous gridlock traffic of Fremont Ave N in most hours of the day (like less than a block distance east). We walked right in at 4:30pm with no reservation on a Saturday as first customers of the dinner service, and throughout our dinner, we were surprised there weren't many tables occupied even when we left around 6:15pm. This place is honestly a bit underrated. Happy hour is 4-5pm, so of course we took advantage of that (and is the reason we went so early). Half off glasses of wine is amazing as we got 3 different glasses of wine (Sauvignon Blanc, SWeL red blend, Cotes du Rhone) priced around $6-7 each. Pizza is about 50% off, but of course the size is smaller than that of the regular menu, but that was okay since we wanted to try more food of smaller quantities. We got the prosciutto and arugula pizza, natural French cut pork chop, and Bartlett pear bread pudding, which is a satisfying portion for 2. The pizza is pretty decent, nothing out of the ordinary, and you are served chili oil on the side which honestly tasted minimally anything and barely has a spicy kick to it, so it felt like you were just adding extra oil to the pizza. The pork chop is a bit overhyped, after seeing reviews that claim it is the best pork chop ever, etc. While the pork chop is seasoned well and nicely crispy on the edges, it was not as juicy as I had hoped. I had to use a fair amount of the gravy on the side to make it less dry, and they served a large amount of mashed potatoes that were eventually quite dry with the amount of gravy they added. For $45+ I was a bit disappointed and expected a lot more. The bread pudding is really good. It is served in a skillet and they do warn you it is very hot. Each bite is so buttery and just the right amount of sweetness, and the ice cream is an excellent pairing to the bread pudding. It kind of reminds me of Pizookie at a chain restaurant, but way better and less heavy. Service is pretty good as they check up on you regularly and bring the dishes with the right cadence. Food here is decent, but be prepared to spend a pretty penny unless you stick to the happy hour options exclusively

Yelp
The restaurant was fairly busy on a Saturday night, which wasn't surprising given its prime location in the heart of Fremont. However, the busy area made parking a bit of a challenge, so be prepared to search for a spot if you're driving. Once checking in with the hostess our group was seated immediately and we were handed our menus and served water. I wasn't too hungry that evening, so I skipped appetizers and went straight for an entrée: the pork chop. The meat was slightly over but had a decent sear on the outside and went well with the sauce underneath the pork. The mushrooms cooked in red wine predominantly tasted like wine and overpowered the mushroom flavor that I love. I found myself with enough room for dessert, so we decided to share the donuts and the warm cookie with ice cream. The donuts, while fresh, were a bit too doughy for my liking and lacked the sweetness I was hoping for. On the other hand, the warm cookie was pretty good. It was soft, gooey, and served warm and paired wonderfully with the cold, creamy ice cream, creating a comforting and satisfying end to the meal.

Yelp
SWeL lives up to its name, the ambiance is so intimate with a beautiful musical touch. I went for their personal pizzas during happy hour but honestly their entire menu looks delicious! My friend and I both loved our meal choices and were not rushed by the waitress to leave promptly despite taking our time to eat. My only note is how pricey their menu items are (outside of the happy hour selection). Coming here often would not be sustainable for many people but all in all, SWeL is lovely

Yelp
The bar area is so adorable. Great date-night spot. Got too exciting for food, so I forgot to take more pictures. The waitstaff is super sweet and attentive. Will definitely return!

Yelp
We came for an early valentines dinner. The restaurant has dim lighting with lots of seating. The waiters were all very nice and attentive. We ordered the bruschetta gluten free, the skirt steak, and the prosciutto and argula gluten free flatbread. The bruschetta was fresh and yummy. The skirt steak was my favorite, the chimichurri was perfect with the steak. My partners favorite was the prosciutto argula flatbread. I loved all the gf options here! Great place for a date night, would definitely come back. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I may have found my new favorite espresso martini in Seattle: the Café Esprés. SWeL (love the acronym) uses freshly ground espresso beans that are so creamy and delicious that they create the layer of foam on the top of the the drink. The tequila, vanilla, and coffee liqueurs balance the flavors perfectly to elevate this drink to something special. SWeL has the ultimate date night ambiance, with sexy, red lighting and decor. We were told to come here for espressotinis by a waiter at another restaurant, and are so glad we did!

Yelp
Incredibly great vibe, atmosphere and in a great area. The staff was chill and just the right amount of helpful and let you be. Spectacular food, presentation and variety. The music play list was so cool as well. Highly recommended!

Yelp
The half off happy hour menu available from 4 to 5 pm everyday the restaurant is open is a great deal. Half off oysters by the dozen, wines by the glass, salads and pizzas add up to quite a saving. There are enough choices in the happy hour menu to put together a full dinner.
google avatar

Supriya L.

Yelp
The cocktails were delicious. Amazing ambience!!!!! It is not too loud and fancy. The food is pricey, $35 per dish unless you are ordering pizza which is about $25. We ordered one of the pastas and it was too good!
google avatar

Yelp
I was really disappointed with my experience. I shared that I have a food allergy that often is taken as a preference so I try my best to stress it when ordering. I recognized immediately that my dish had the ingredient and it was confirmed by the waitress. The item was taken off my bill but I wasn't offered something else so I just waited for my family to eat. Just a disappointing experience.

Yelp
Everything about Swel is superb. From the moment we stepped in the restaurant, we were greeted, treated kindly and immediately shown to our table. Jessie, our server, was attentive without being intrusive and super friendly despite being slammed. The restaurant is warm and chic and manages to have a romantic air despite the hustle. We ordered pear pizza, goat cheese appetizer, Ceasars salad and the spicy shrimp. All plates were returned to the kitchen, cleaned by us. We will be back shortly, we might even become regulars.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in on a Friday night around 8pm and we were able to sit at the bar. Had oysters, the spicy shrimp, Caesar and the special ribeye. All the food was really tasty! Really loved the Caesar (we also loved it six years ago). Had some cocktails and wine. Everything was on point. Servers were on top of it, but not overbearing. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Quirky and cozy interior, fantastic service, DELICIOUS food, and a great bar menu with some fun surprises for even a seasoned whiskey person. yes, please! We'll absolutely be back

Yelp
Ted, the owner greeted and sat us. He was funny and vibrant. My French 75 was perfectly made. And we both cleaned our plates completely, which never happens. It was so good. Definitely "shit we like". The ambiance was cute and inviting. The bathrooms were beautiful, as well. Overall, we had a great experience and we will be back!

Yelp
I absolutely love SWeL. Their food is always amazing, the aesthetic is perfect for a date night, and the servers are attentive and kind! I always go back to the same items at SWeL but I am sure all of their stuff is delicious. My boyfriend always gets the pizzas, which are perfectly saucy, have a solid amount of toppings (hard to find nowadays), and are also on their happy hour menu. My go-to is the seafood linguine (~$35). It is pricey, but has delicious, perfectly cooked seafood and an amazing garlic white wine creamy sauce. This is one of my favorite pastas anywhere and I think it is an excellent portion size and has a good amount of seafood, as well as some Macrina toast on the side. Our favorite appetizer is the scallops baked in a spicy lime Mornay cheese sauce, and served with Macrina bread to dip (~$17). This dish is a must-try and a very unique take on the crab/artichoke cheese dips most other places have. Lastly, the pear bread pudding is a must try dessert. I was recommended this by a server one of the first times I went to SWeL and was amazed by it. I was never really interested in dessert but after trying this, I have to get it every time and have put many friends on it too. The bread pudding is enough to share and served in a hot skillet; the caramel and pears are perfectly sweet and go well with the ice cream in the skillet. My favorite part is the edges of the bread that are crispier, the perfect dessert! Definitely on the pricier side, but worth it for a special occasion or date night!

Yelp
Parking was very easy on a week day. We were seated promptly. I really appreciated that the menu is labeled for gluten free. Food and drink wise...we just didn't really love anything. Everything was decent but nothing was unique, or something we couldn't make for ourselves at home. It is quite pricy for what is essentially a red-toned lighting pizza place. I personally won't be back, but not because anything was particularly bad, but because nothing stood out and there are just too many other good options.

Afi T.

Yelp
AMAZING PORK CHOP!!!! Great ambiance, wonderful service, solid cocktails. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Tucked away in the hustle & bustle of Fremont this is a great way to start a Fremont night. Good ambiance (red low lights), personable staff and great food. The menu is not huge which is a good thing because they know how to do everything well - I was craving a pork chop and let me tell you they know how to make the perfect pork chop 10/10. My boyfriend had the steak and it was cooked perfectly. Reasonable prices and in a great location - easy place to walk around when you are finished with your meal.
google avatar

Wendi K.

Yelp
Cool vibes. Dim, red toned lighting. Came by for some apps and drinks on a Friday, sat at the bar. Got the Oysters, bread, and Caprese which were all nice! The pizza and main courses looked awesome coming out of the kitchen so I'd like to try that if I come again :D

Yelp
Visiting our son in Seattle and chose SWel to celebrate my birthday. What a great choice! The ambience was beautiful and very, very cozy. Food and service were also amazing - love the pizzas and the espresso martini! If we lived in Seattle, I'm sure we would be here often. We will definitely be back on our next visit!

Yelp
Fantastic food and service, our favorite was the baked goat cheese with crostini. We'll be back again for sure!

Yelp
Came here for a dinner on the weekend. We made reservations and were seated right away. The space is very cozy and was decorated for the holidays. Staff were attentive and friendly and made sure we had what we needed. Drinks and food were great! Good portions, tasty, and a variety of items to choose from.

Yelp
Looking for a sexy bar/restaurant with great food and warm service? We'll be back to this lovely place. Lucky for us Thomas at the front desk worked to get us into a table on a busy Friday night without a reservation. We started with craft cocktails. Hubby had a great Moscow Mule while I started with a greyhound with freshly squeezed grapefruit--amazing! We moved on to a table with a scallop appetizer and our main courses. I had the chicken with an amazing velvety mushroom sauce with sweet roasted carrots and roasted mashed potatoes. Hubby had the salmon (very moist and lovely) over black bean puree and fresh crisp asparagus. The place has a ton of ambiance and staff were prompt, professional and gracious. What more to ask?

Manka M. V.

Yelp
I found this restaurant to be very overrated in terms of the food. It's a lovely location and ambience and the service was exceptional. But the mains were not very good. The appetizers were decent like the scallops. And the Caesar salad was amazing. But I ordered the steak - it was fine but nothing exceptional and the sides ( potatoes) were actually bad. I tasted the filet mignon that my friend got and I found the sauce to be too strong. I would come back for happy hour and try the oysters and get the salad again.
google avatar

Yelp
What an incredible experience. I would give it 6 stars if I could. The aesthetics and ambiance were perfect - from the colors they chose to the lighting to the music. The menu was the perfect size with just the right amount of selections. I had the pork chop and quite honestly, it might very well be the best porkchop with the most perfect sauce I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. They were also incredibly accommodating and almost enthusiastic about changes or modifications we desired. Our server was Avery and she was delightful. Just the right amount of presence and frequency, very friendly and pleasant, and super nice. Ted, the owner, is the one who sat us and he was also a complete joy. Very friendly and playful, made great suggestions, and made us feel right at home. This was my first time there and I can't wait to go back. Fantastic.

Lizzy C.

Yelp
Fabulous drinks and appetizers and received top notch service from the server and bartender. I love the interior decor and lighting as well. Romantic, comfortable, classy. I decided to give it a try after reading the website. Seems like a lot of pride and love were invested in curating a nice place to dine out. Didn't order a meal but I look forward to coming back.
google avatar

Sabrina H.

Yelp
SWeL is your average typical Americana experience. There is good diversity to the menu offerings but there wasn't a menu offering that stood out to me as spectacular or unique. I came here with a group for my friend's birthday, and I thought the service was pretty accommodating. I had ordered the Italian sausage pizza, and it was decent. I thought that the crust had a nice crisp to it and the toppings complemented each other pretty well.
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down the best restaurant in fremont. The service cannot be beat and the food and drinks.... Wow, everytime. I bring all my friends and family here when they come into town. Spicy margarita is my favorite drink to order. Jessy is the sweetest waitress and gives us the best recommendations. I recommend making a reservation.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by Swel for a drink plus something to eat and it was definitely a pleasant experience. The servers were very friendly and genuine, plus the interior is cozy. For drinks, I went with the Basil Gimlet ($14)--fresh basil, Broker's London dry gin, lime, simple syrup. A refreshing classic. Food-wise there aren't a ton of plant-based options but the Hummus + Flatbread ($15) is pretty tasty! The house-made jalapeño hummus is topped with cucumber and tomato, served with warm flatbread wedges. I also got the Arugula Salad ($12) without cheese, which is comprised of organic wild arugula, toasted marcona almonds, olive oil, and fresh lemon juice. Parking can be tricky, but if you're patient, you'll find something. I'd come back for a drink or two along with snacks, although I'd probably choose somewhere else with more veg options for dinner.

Yelp
AMAZING experience overall! I got linguini and it was the best linguini I had for a while. Cool ambiance and lovely staff! Update: I got the pear bread pudding for dessert and can't say how good it is! Just wow!

Yelp
Loved meeting the owner and the staff was friendly and didn't rush us at all. The red lights and cozy feeling gave it a lounge vibe but it was loud enough that you didn't feel like everyone could hear you. My dad loves cooking pork chops and he said this was the best one he's ever had (and that's saying something). The bread pudding dessert was moist but crispy SO delicious. I loved my basil gimlet as well! Parents said they had the best time and can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Great vibe and great food! We had the rigatoni, pepperoni pizza, and a chopped salad.

Yelp
Loved this place. I impromptu came to this place for dinner after while walking around in Fremont. We ordered the oysters and Italian sausage pizza. The oysters were fresh. And the pizza was tasty. The crust was thin but not soggy! All the topping went well together. The cocktails were amazing. The waitress recommended cocktails and was receptive to making changes to the cocktails to suit our tastes. I had the Gin and Juice (flower) and my friend had the Hygge seasonal drink. Both were excellent. Been a while since I have gone to a place and actually liked the cocktails. The Gin and Juice might be my new favorite cocktails going forward.

Yelp
If I have ever said "this place has the best beet salad on the planet".... this place beats the other place! Great ambiance with cozy indoor and outdoor dining. Make this a date night spot! Ohhhhhh.....The bruschetta was so delicious as was the clams and mussels! Service was spot on too! Don't miss this sweet Fremont dining experience. Business appropriate too!

Yelp
Nice decor, a menu with a sense of humor and pretty tasty food. I had the skirt steak. The steak itself was a bit tough probably because it was grass fed vs grain fed and seared instead of grilled. But it still had a good flavor. The potato side was very tasty and plentiful. My wife had the seafood pasta. She thoroughly enjoyed it. Clams, shrimp and crab on a linguini with whit sauce. She said she would have preferred a red sauce. My son had the Chicken breast. It was small but very flavorful. He even ate the mushrooms they he usually doesn't because he liked the sauce they came in so much. It also had a side of carrots he loved. The service was excellent as well. Staffed by very friendly and helpful people. Highly recommend, but make a reservation. We got there about a half hour prior and they sat us early. ShitWeLike SWeL

Yelp
We came in on a Tuesday evening and had a dinner reservation for 7:45. We were immediately greeted by a friendly man with a beard (he may have been the owner or restaurant manager, not too sure). It was 7:15, and the restaurant was moderately busy. Our table was not ready yet but we asked to sit at the bar. Our host was happy to oblige, and the bartender Evan (?) was immensely helpful, informative, and super friendly. He answered all our questions about the drinks and made us a couple of cocktails: the SWeL Black Manhattan and the Espresso Martini. Both drinks were tasty, not overpowering, and had a good balance of alcohol and complimentary flavors; perfect starter drinks before being seated 15 minutes later. We started the evening with a dozen oysters, all local, and were delicious and fresh. The miyagi oysters were a little on the small side (quarter to half dollar) but still tasty, not too briney. For dinner, my wife ordered the linguini, and I had the porkchop. She was amazed at the freshness of the pasta, and the linguini sauce was light, citrusy, garlicky, and buttery. They definitely did not skimp on the seafood in the dish; all of it was fresh, and the meal was a good portion. I ordered the porkchop, and wow. It was tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. I had a favorite spot to get porkchops before this, but I think this one narrowly wins in the flavor category. I will be dreaming about this porkchop for years to come! Lastly, for dessert, we ordered the bread pudding, and it was awesome. The pear wasn't too sweet and complimented the brown sugar, buttery goodness of the bread (light crisp on the outside, moist and not chewy on the inside). The vanilla ice cream was a nice touch, and the dessert itself can be shared between two people. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and we will definitely tell our friends about this place! Great find in the Fremont neighborhood!!!

Yelp
The calamari, oysters, seafood linguine, and all the basil cocktails were incredible!

Yelp
Tim, I see that a large number of the negative reviews have resulted in attacks from you. You cannot hide behind being "thin skinned." You are responsible for managing that and treating your customers with respect and offering good customer service if you care about your customers or their reviews. If you do, people would probably come back despite their negative experience. I would have likely been back at your business ordering my favorite, but at this point I can't in good conscious because your responses are just crazy to come from an owner directed at a long term repeat customer. I'm not a liar and I don't appreciate being called one in the couple of places you accused me of not being truthful about my experience. Anyway, I still wish you the best. I will not be responding again. Take care.

Yelp
Yummy pizza!!!! My fave pizza in the city so far! For dessert, got the deep dish chocolate chip cookie with ice cream! Yuuuuuuummm! Felt like I was eating cookies out of mom's oven. Super cute cozy atmosphere too! Went here for our anniversary a few weeks ago.

Yelp
Walking in I felt like this is a neighborhood place I'd like hanging out at. It has a warm, casual atmosphere with eclectic decor strung up with red lights. I started with the spicy margarita- it had a slightly medicinal taste that wasn't my favorite, but the salted rim was perfectly spicy. We had the Fanny Bay oysters, beet salad, smoked mozzarella and pancetta pizza and the pork chop. Oysters were fresh and served with horseradish, a mignonette and hot sauce instead of cocktail sauce. The salad was good- the cheese added the perfect salty balance to the sweetness of the beets. The pork chop was beautifully presented, but it could've been seasoned a little more for my taste. The mashed potatoes were awesome and paired well with the mushroom and pork. The star was the pizza, which we almost didn't order. It was more like a flatbread- the crust was crispy and chewy and the toppings went together perfectly. Glad we read other reviews and ordered this. I want to try the other ones next time. Service was excellent- it feels like the people who work here really care. Recommend making reservations.

Yelp
This is my third time at Swel, and this time around I stumbled right before happy hour (which i didn't know since it was the weekend and ive only been here on weekdays before) ended and the staff friendly shared the hh menu with us. Happy hour is only at the bar seating which is actually really nice, plenty of leg room, table room and coat hooks. I had my e-scooter with me and was able to put it in my leg space just fine without bothering neighbors. We ended up ordering one hh item, the pepperoni pizza and a non hh item the seafood linguini. My goodness, the pizza dough was just chewy and stayed warm for a while, the seafood (especially the prawns) in the pasta was juicy. Our order also came with the house chili olive oil on the side which made the pizza even better. Aperol spritz ratio was just perfect and i cant wait to come back soon.

Yelp
We loved the ambience (best when its' dark outside). All of our food dishes were great and our waitress was very friendly. We did one of the pizzas as an appetizer so we could try it. Not a place I would make my 'pizza place', but good as an appetizer. Wine prices were reasonable. It was a bit loud, but not so much that you couldn't hear the person on the other side of the table. The music in the background was perfect for the place.

Yelp
Swel was able to take our 18 top with a 24 hour notice. They were so flexible and very communicative about the menu and seating ahead of time which made it really easy for our team to enjoy the drinks and food without the chaos of ordering for a large group. We love Fremont and love this restaurant! There not too many quality places to eat on the fly with large groups in the area so we will definitely be back. Food was amazing, atmosphere was amazing, music was also amazing and staff (surprise) also amazing. We'll be back!

Yelp
Great spot to grab happy hour or dinner. I love the atmosphere and music. Highly recommend the chicken sandwich. The oysters were some of the best I've had but unfortunately they aren't disconnected during happy hour. I still would get them regardless, especially since they offer horseradish alongside the oysters.

Yelp
This was my 3rd or 4th time coming to SWEL over a 10 year period and it still doesn't disappoint! Excellent service and ambiance, and the gluten free options are AMAZING. The gf pizza is a must have. I ordered the one with pancetta this time around and wasn't disappointed. I will be back soon!

Yelp
This restaurant is amazing! I hosted my son's wedding rehearsal dinner here last weekend. The food is delicious and the service was top notch. The owner, Ted was so kind and easy to work with even though I was in a different city. Our waiter, Sam, was attentive and knowledgeable. Everyone was very impressed. The salmon was melt in your mouth good. Those who attended that were local will be back and it will be a must stop for us when we visit our son and new daughter-in-law. I highly recommend you visit if you can!
