Philly’s Best Polish Restaurants | Eater Philly

"This long-standing butcher shop carries traditional kielbasa and deli meat and has a loyal following. They also carry freshly made Polish baked goods like favorki, a deep-fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar, and classic babka with raisins." - Natalie Jesionka

Google
Swiacki's offers a great selection of traditional Polish food along with standard deli items in their long standing store. The staff can sometimes seem a little less than approachable, but they are super helpful and knowledgeable if you ask questions or need to make a special request. Definitely a place to stock up for parties, holidays, and special occasions!

Jennifer Geer

Google
Outstanding!! Swiackis is a national treasure! The fresh kielbasa is perfection. It’s my favorite! Prices are great. Food is Fresh and delicious! The staff is friendly and courteous. Guarantee Everything you need !

Brandon Wilson

Google
Delicious all around. Everything from the frozen food to the kielbasa amazing. I love the hot and cheesy links but also their regular kielbasa too

Erica Metzger

Google
Totally solid place. I really like both their smoked and fresh kielbasa. If you're like me as tend to have an upset tummy after kielbasa, Swiackis is THE PLACE for you. I've enjoyed their Kielbasa two days in a row without any of the typical adverse effects one experiences from the good stuff... yippee! It's also a deli with all the dietz and Watson lunch meats and cheeses you'd expect, but also some house special meats and polish ham! What a treat. Non-meats include local jarred pickles, sauces, etc. I've also had excellent kapustas (with and without bacon), enormous galumpkis, and outstanding babka. I've actually never had a babka I've liked as much as the raspberry cheese, but I can't wait to try the other flavors. Expect a line when you get here, it's a good idea to call ahead to see how it's going. You'll wait at least an hour before any major holidays but it's worth it.

William Zuggi

Google
We been coming here for years and this is still the best kielbasa around. We tried another kielbasa from the competition and it wasn't even close to Stan and Ed's kielbasa.

Brian Whalen

Google
Everything they have is the best in the city The kielbasa And the pierogies and the cabbage meat in the red sauce is out of this world place in the citiy can touch this place. And the people that worked there are The nicest people in the city to even talk to and have a business relationship with this place is where everybody should go

Julio Corcino

Google
If I could describe this place in one word it would be PHENOMENAL !!!!! The meats here have been cured and carefully and meticulously flavored ! You can eat the smoked sausage as is ! All I can say is come Try it and see make your own judgement call!

Eugene Maria

Google
Very clean and tidy. Not anything like that dirty Dungeon that sells similar Polish Provisions just down and around the block. Kudos for caring about sanitation and your Customers. Merry Christmas. ☮️✅

Yelp
I have been coming here for 20+ years. There is no place better for fresh Kielbasa and pierogies

Nancy Z.

Yelp
Love every item of food here! Easter is the best because of Swiacki! Kielbasa, pirogies, babka! One-stop shopping for Easter. Simply the best!

Gregg L.

Yelp
Great In/Out service... A+ The available parking lot was helpful. Loved the selection of all the Polish favorites

John G.

Yelp
The Best kielbasa but I believe they have the best Italian sausage since I grew up in south Philly.

Joyce S.

Yelp
The food was delicious and they have a great selection of meats, pierogi, bread, polish food and babka. The staff is very friendly and aim to please their customers.

Steve A.

Yelp
Their touch was always top notch but last week got some fresh, smoked and hot kobanose and the kobanose didn't look or taste the same. After a couple days started to feel strange so just threw it out. Seems like maybe was frozen at one time and they thawed it out and sold it. Time for a change!!!

Yelp
I have a polish name but am 0% polish...I was however raised in a heavily polish populated area in the Midwest so I know a thing or two about kielbasa. These guys get it. Perfect fat to meat ratio, perfect garlic, perfect flavor. During non-Covid you could sample the different products. But this year sucks so you can't. But you can still buy the best kielbasa my non-polish-having-polish-name-raised-amongst-polish-people have tasted!

T D.

Yelp
I have been going here for many (20) years and the last 2 years something was off. My family, whom I have been making this for the same way for 20 years, have said it just isn't the same. They said it just doesn't have that smoky flavor. I called and a man who claimed to be owner said recipe was the same. so I asked are you smoking it the same? He said yes. Come to find out, we are not the only family no longer satisfied. From what I learned new owner "inherited" business. So sad. His Dad and Uncle must be turning over in their grave. BTW he told me to go someplace else! Next stop Europran American ‍

Ken O.

Yelp
Best pierogies you'll ever get .. & .. the selection is great. Their kielbasa is excellent; in fact ALL of their meats are delicious. This establishment has withstood the test of time.

Cindy D.

Yelp
I have been going here for years mostly at Easter season. Today there were new faces behind the counter. My bill came to way, way over what I estimated and when I asked for a breakdown, I was turned down. The man waiting on me took a phone call while he was ringing me up. It took a long time to give me a total for my food. He handed me my bags but kept the bag with 3 containers of chrusckis. I hadn't noticed, since it was a heavy rain day. I live in NJ and don't see it worth driving the 45 minutes to go back. I tried calling but it must have rang 30-40 times with no way to leave a message. Upon arriving home, we ate the galupkis and they were sooo dried out. I do not know what changed but I will say next time, I will not return and be spending my money at Czerw's. Sorry, Swiacki, you just lost a customer.

Yelp
This was a great place to stop in my visit to Philadelphia. They had everything I was looking for and some things I didn't know the offered. Please give this place a try. It's really that good.

Yelp
So Yelp says "you've checked in here "x" times before, what keeps you coming back?" to which I reply "the quality of the food, that's what." There are numerous places you can buy kielbasa, and each has it's own flavor profile, but for my family this has always been the best. A nice light smoke, some garlic, and even the grind of the meat are just perfect. But this weekend was even better because I had the free little sandwiches to munch on while you are waiting in line. I had something called their "cajun meatloaf" which is a great use for dead pig on a roll. The meat is a loaf, like a lunch meat, but made there of course. The meat tastes like a hot kabonasa, but also has some Cajun spices and cheese. They served it on grilled rye bread, like a pressed panini (polish style of course). The taste of the buttery toasted rye bread and the warm meats was amazing. Good thing they only had a few samples or I would still be there eating it all.

Yelp
I live two minutes from here and today was my first time stopping in. I LOVE it! Totally old school which is so refreshing! I actually drove by it my first time driving down the block because it's tucked between houses. You know what to expect-quality meats. I'm sure I'll be back soon!

Chris V.

Yelp
My dad used to drive me here as a kid to stand in line with him to wait for sometimes an hour around Easter just for kielbasa, pierogis, babka, pickles, you name it. I still come down there three to four times a year just to pick up some. 1 lb of smoked 1lb of fresh and whatever else you want. Could not recommend this place more and the guys at the counter really make you feel at home. Right off the 95 exit too, if you can't find it you don't deserve it.

Km S.

Yelp
Absolutely the best kielbasa by far. My Polish Grandmother always bought their meats, only their kielbasa. Fresh or Smoked all delicious and well worth the trip from Cherry Hill, NJ. The owners are family and make you feel so welcome that it is a pleasure shopping there. I don't go anywhere else for homemade kielbasa. They also have a freezer full of amazing, homemade pierogi. Used to make my own but theirs are just as good. They make excellent stuffed cabbage. If you're lucky enough to get there when it comes out buy it. Just a wonderful spot in Port Richmond.
google avatar

Ken R.

Yelp
They have the absolute best smoked kielbasa in the world! My review is straight and to the point as I tried posting what I said above and Yelp told me it was too short for a review and that it was more of a tip. Swiacki's rocks!

Thomas L.

Yelp
Best kielbasa in Philadelphia. And I come from a long line of former Kielbasi eaters!
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
Awesome place and friendly staff! This has to be the best kielbasa and kabanosy around! My grandfather used to work for Bell Telephone in south philly and used to get us this all the time when I was growing up. I live in Glenside and I try to make this trip every couple months and stock up! Awesome stuff and they have a variety of different stuff like hot and cheesy links and kabanosy (thin kielbasa) smoked, hot, or hot and cheesy. Along with regular size as well. All varieties are amazing. I personally prefer this place over Cwerz's but that's just me. Cwerz's is good but this place takes it for me.
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
Best kielbasa in Philly. Always smiling faces behind the counter. Friendly, personal, family owned. Better than any packaged stuff you buy at the market. Stop in and shop local you won't be disappointed!

Nicholas S.

Yelp
I came here after finding out the Gaul & Co. bar uses Swiacki's kielbasa (you should try them out btw). It wasn't hard to find via Google Maps. The red sign and doors (see picture) are right on the street it says it is. We came on a Tuesday around 3pm. There was a parking spot open a few cars from the door. The room is long and narrow. The pierogi fridge is the first thing on the right (see picture), and the meat and register are in the back. I was hoping there would be would be more meat pierogi options or a regular cheese (there was a cheese and potato variety), but the selection was sufficient. We fried them in a pan with butter and olive oil (we usually only use butter). They got very brown and crunchy on the outside! Great! However, there was not much bacon in the Bacon and Potato pierogies. It was all potato with one or two tiny pieces of bacon. We got the smoked kielbasa, which wasn't in the refrigerated glass case. It was lying out on the counter (as was the sauerkraut with kielbasa in it, on the left in the back across from the counter). I also wanted to try the "hot and cheesy kielbasa," which I found to be lacking in cheese. It was good, though. We grilled everything, and it was really good! For more, go to phillyfoodandbrews.com

Yelp
I stopped in today for my first time to pick up a preordered kielbasa loaf as a Christmas present. What an amazing place! There was a line but the service was so quick and friendly that I hardly noticed. I took some homemade pirogies for my boys and some cajun kielbasa. I can't wait to come back in for more already! Thanks again
google avatar

Mia C.

Yelp
Homemade pierogi and the rye bread is awesome! Get there early for your choice of pierogi flavors
google avatar

Jamie S.

Yelp
Tiny place with a few freezers and the butcher counter. I have not gotten to try Czerw's (sold out by the time I got there) so I can't compare to that, but I have had a lot of kielbasa and I have to say Swiacki's is the best I have ever had. Sourkraut and pierogies (mushroom, potato, horseradish) were really good too, but that kielbasa......
google avatar

Frank D.

Yelp
Simply the best, go and you'll come back, they are helpful and have a great selection.

Alison K.

Yelp
My regular Polish deli was closed because of Covid-19 so I was excited to find that this place was open two days before Easter. And because their website says they were voted the best kielbasa in Port Richmond made me even more happy. Well, this must be the only place in Port Richmond that sells kielbasa because that's the only reason why I can think they were voted the best. I purchased a smoked and a fresh. The smoked is only a step up from the Hillshire Farm you can purchase at your local grocery store. On the other hand, the fresh is ok. I would buy it again, if this was the only place I could find it. There is only street parking. There is a fenced in lot across the street that threatens to tow your car if you are parked there illegally but there is no sign that says it's parking for their establishment.
google avatar

Donna B.

Yelp
The food is absolutely delicious. Loved the polish ham. Best kielbasa hands down. Best club rolls and rye around. Not to mention the rye is freshly sliced. Love their food!

John E.

Yelp
This place has great fresh polish kielbasa. The casing is thin and very tasty. I'm not a fan of smoked kielbasa but I do like theirs. Last time I was in I bought 15 lbs of fresh and 3 lbs smoked.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Great place for kielbasa and lunch meats friendly guys, get there early for the holidays
google avatar

Mike F.

Yelp
Great place for true Polish meats and babka. This is my go to for Easter weekend kielbasa and babka. Even though the lines can get long it is well worth the wait. The smoked and fresh kielbasa are the best around.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
5 star joint. Better than their competitors. I'm a Italian boy from south philly who is now half polish. I currently drive from Cherry Hill to grab this tasty meat. Went in for some regular kielbasa, but after that i was fed by one of the employees and ended up spending 70 bucks. To emphasize fed, I was full when I left the place. The smoked jalapeno cheddar sausage is easy one of the best things I've ever tasted. Small link and large. I cooked it two different ways and each were awesome. Table top griddle will work if you dont have a grille. Explosion of flavor in every bite. This will be a monthly pickup.
google avatar

Kathleen B.

Yelp
I am a total Kielbasa snob. I'm from the city & I have been selling Real estate in the City and travel all over looking for the best. I am also half Polish. There are a few places around but in my opinion do not compare. Swiaki is Polish and has great products. PS On Sat they have sandwich samples. It is located it he middle of the block and small so don't miss it. My Sister Sue and I go there all the time and she is from Bridesburg and I from Glenside.I would travel across the globe for their smoked Kielbasi. Kathleen McGee-Birkelbach

Yelp
The BEST EVER homemade smoked Kielbasa! Getting a batch to take for my Family Reunion. It TASTES FANTASTIC... I LOVE IT grilled!
google avatar

Ricardo M.

Yelp
Great Hidden gem in Philadelphia . you can get Polish sausage ( Kielbasa). You will never buy the supermarket crap after you get some from here and other fresh-made sausages. Great old fashioned butchers behind the counter . they;ll even call you when they make a batch of your favorite. They take credit cards as well.
google avatar

Kathleen D.

Yelp
Sausage aficionados! Yup. Do it. That's my advice. Wake up early. Make it a mission, make it a point. Every time we're up in Port Richmond many Polish sausage stops are made when stocking up on the good stuff. Sometimes we don't have time to shop all our favorite area emporiums of smoky, meaty goodness, but without fail we make absolutely sure to hit up Stan Swiacki's. This stop is integral. I have outta town family who demand we bring Swiacki's sausage with us when we come a-visiting. In case you're wondering, it hasn't escaped me that we're mere pawns in all this, byproducts of kielbasa addicts' hankerin' transactions. Luckily I love stopping my this lil Salmon Street shop. Here you will find all the excellent, excellent, excellent smoked pork kielbasa, along with an amazing array of top quality pickles, horseradish, pierogi, breads, babkas, stuffed cabbage, and every kinda piece of homemade deliciousness that you could possibly ever need to have a wonderful Polish meal for yourself. Go, I say! The kielbasy is king.
google avatar

Gino C.

Yelp
No frills meat shop. I can't believe that I never tried this place throughout the three years I lived in the neighborhood. My bad. I'll just have to drive here regularly. I'm just going to make it easy for you. If you like kielbasa, you'll love this joint. The smoked kielbasa was amazing. And pirogies? Yep, they've got lots of them (I recommend the spinach as well as the herb garlic). I've been a casual kielbasa person up until a recent trip to Poland. Now I get it. It's serious and the flavors are amazing. We are privileged to live in a city where Swiacki Meats are providing us with such authentic tastes of Poland. Do yourself a favor. Stop buying those prepackaged sausages from the grocery store. Take a trip over here, say "hi" to Stan and load up. Your grill will smell nicer and your taste buds will thank you for it!
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
Swiacki's has the best kielbasa that I've ever tasted. Today was the second time that I've been there and I got a couple of the hot & cheesy links. Easily one of the best things my body has ever consumed! Service is excellent and the employees are very helpful. The prices are very reasonable (2 links for $7.50!). The first time I went I ended up driving right past it because it kind of blends in with the house on Salmon St. but it's just south of Castor and Salmon. Never a disappointment!
google avatar

Stephanie W.

Yelp
Best kielbasa I've tasted! My family has been coming to Swiacki for as long as I can remember, and probably even before that. I have relatives who come down from Phoenixville at Easter and Christmas just to get the kielbasa and pierogies, which are always delicious--potato, cheese, sauerkraut, you name it. My grandfather, who has had two knee replacements and is definitely getting on in years, will take his bi-annual trip before Christmas and Easter to pick up the traditional mountain of kielbasa and kabanosy (as well as his favorite babka) to divide it up for the family. He waits in line in the cold and says it's worth every minute. My mother used to get a friend to pick up her order, and this year had my grandfather "introduce" my brother to the tradition. He picked up fresh kielbasa instead of smoked. My mother called to explain what happened and see if we could swap, without so much as a question she was told to just have him bring back the package and pick up the smoked instead. Can't say enough great things about this business! Will definitely be keeping this tradition of lining up early and freezing our butts off alive for years to come.
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
The only kielbasa I'll eat I'll admit, I have never actually been here. My father lived in the area where they are located. Growing up, he would always get kielbasa here. After I moved out, he would always have kielbasa for me to take home when I visted. Now he goes to Swiacki's and then brings it to me and my siblings (even though I live at least 75 mins away). I won't eat anything else. I've tried buying it in the store, I've tried kielbasa from other meat markets. Forget it. Nothing compares. Helpful hint: in summer, put it on the grill. If not grilling, fry some slices in oil, then crack a couple of eggs over it. Now admit it...you are salivating just thinking about it, aren't you??? After reading all the reviews, I have GOT to visit them myself.

Gi G.

Yelp
Best kielbasa I've ever had!! Have been going here for years and the people who work there have always been so helpful and considerate. Great food and great people. 10/10 will always recommend
google avatar

Veronica S.

Yelp
For me to travel almost an hour for any type of food is saying something. The kielbasa here is the absolute BEST!!! You won't eat any other after you've tried Swiackis. They also have cajun and slim jims. The slim jims are a great little snack you can take to the beach and munch on while just sitting back and reading a good book! A definite place you MUST VISIT!!

John G.

Yelp
Big shop right on Salmon St with plenty of parking. Kielbasa was very good and so were the perogies! I also got Krakowska and rye bread which were both delicious.
google avatar

Liz S.

Yelp
The best kielbasa in the greater Philadelphia area. Worth the wait that extends around the block in the days before Easter Sunday. Call before you go, as this family run business doesn't stick to their advertised hours, but it's worth planning your trip. Always friendly, and despite the city street parking, I've never parked farther than a few car lengths from the door. Enjoy!!
google avatar

Ken C.

Yelp
First time buyer. Had a little difficulty locating but the place was clean and the people in the store were courteous, friendly and helpful. The kielbasa was excellent along with the Pirogies and the rest of the stuff we bought. Great place to shop. Will make sure to go again.
google avatar

Reese A.

Yelp
A few weeks ago I drove an hour and a half to get a taste of my childhood. Entering the red door brought back fond memories of kielbasa pick-ups with my grandfather. Fresh pierogies, kielbasa and a some polish "slim-jim" made my trip complete. Nothing has changed, and thankfully so.
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
As a good Irish lad, what do I know from good Polish meat purveyors. Thank God I married into the Polacks as they have led this poor lad from the wilderness to the promised land of Keilbasa. Fresh smoked Keilbasa so good that that I have to fumigate my car for three days after. Between that the Babka, pierogi, chruschiki and the rest I may never leave.
google avatar

Mackie E.

Yelp
This place is AWESOME! I stopped hear per my father-in-law's Father's days request. I had never heard of Swiacki's before then. I was inadvertently being rude while I stood in line because I had to read my phone for the list of everything I had to get, but I certainly tried to take everything in. I really like that it is basically just a warehouse with refrigeration - not a lot of frill. I got 4 bags of pierogi, which was finished 4 days later. They were amazing. I was a huge fan of the spinach and the farmer's cheese. Also, the babka was unbelievable. I mean, seriously amazing. I haven't eaten that stuff since the 90's and it certainly reminded me about what I was missing. Finally, the smoked kielbasa was awesome. I liked that it wasn't over-the-top spicy. I also enjoyed that the kielbasa had a nice bite to it. I honesty cannot wait to come back here.
google avatar

Marissa B.

Yelp
I haven't actually been shopping in the store, but, the fact that they have bangin kielbasi and also carry Zayda's horseradish is enough for me. Can't wait to stop in and actually check them out sometime. Until then, even though I also got their card in a bar before, I will rely on babysitting family's fridge in Holmesburg.

Chris T.

Yelp
My husband likes their polish kielbasa. I am not a meat eater but I have tried their fish cakes and crab cakes but did not like them enough to buy them again. What is FABULOUS is their Babka..........I LOVE the plain Babka (which tastes like a cheese danish), but they also have Babka with other flavors; I like the plain so much that I don't even want to try the other flavors.

Joe P.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years. The Kilbasa is always great and what I've learned to expect is fantastic pierogies. I've visited recently and they had little selection of Pierogies. When I went to look in the freezer any woman assisted me. I she walked over and said what can I get you. I said I'd like jalapeño cheddar. And potato sauerkraut .She handed me four bags that I asked for. When I arrived home, I looked at to bags of potato and sourKraut which are exactly like I've gotten in the past, homemade. The jalapeño cheddar looked like Mrs. T's. They were very friendly and I know it's a busy time of year but if you are out of something don't substitute it with whatever you can get your hands on just to make a sale. Next time I will remove the pierogies from the freezer and inspect them carefully and not let anyone just hand them to me. $26, four bags of non-homemade Pierogies.
