The 10 Best Lunch Spots In Holborn - London - The Infatuation

"Swiss Butter, a steak spot near Russell Square, is all about the sauce. A creamy, peppery, citrussy sauce that’s best soaked into sliced baguette or used to drench skinny fries until they’re soft. The industrial space is great for unfussy groups and minimal thinking. People pile in for £20 steak and chips and often there’s a queue out the door—so save this for a day off. Sure, you’ll find better steak in London, but you won’t find that sauce anywhere else." - rianne shlebak, jake missing

Are These London Restaurants Worth The Hype? - London - The Infatuation

"The Verdict: A decent formula but not worth the wait times.   Swiss Butter is a Lebanese import with a straightforward formula that revolves around a special 33-ingredient sauce. At the walk-in only Holborn spot, all you do is choose your protein—fish, chicken, or steak—and decide if you want bread or chips. While it’s not a meal that will change your life and the steak is pretty average, a £19 beef fillet with chips feels like a steal in this economy if you can walk straight in. If the queue is over 25 minutes, just go to Nando’s. " - Sinead Cranna, Rianne Shlebak, Jake Oliver

Swiss Butter - Review - Holborn - London - The Infatuation

"Swiss Butter, a steak spot near Russell Square, is all about the sauce. A creamy, peppery, citrussy sauce that’s best soaked into sliced baguette or used to drench skinny fries until they’re soft. A meal here revolves around it. The industrial space, with exposed brick and a strong coffee-shop-in-Shoreditch feel, is great for unfussy groups where everyone orders the same thing and minimal thinking is required. Students pile in for £20 steak and chips, friends gather to catch up over the molten chocolate dessert, and couples sit at the bar waiting to be seated. Believe the hype – Swiss Butter is absolutely worth it! My friend and I had an incredible experience yesterday. Despite the line outside, it moved surprisingly fast, and before we knew it, we were seated and ready to indulge. Let me tell you, the steak and chips are AMAZING! The steak was cooked to perfection, and that signature Swiss Butter sauce is just divine. Every bite was a burst of flavor, and the chips were the perfect complement. It's clear why this place is so popular – the food is simply outstanding. The whole experience was fantastic, and we can't wait to come back again. If you're looking for a memorable meal that lives up to its reputation, Swiss Butter is a must-try. Highly recommended!

Amazing restaurant, you must try! 🤩 I visited Swiss Butter with a friend on a Saturday afternoon. The queue was quite big and we waited exactly the estimation waiting time that we have been given when we joined the queue, 45 minutes. But it was worth it! We have ordered two medium rare filet steaks with fries. It was served with some salad and bread with some chilly flakes. The steaks were tender, but one was more pink thank the other one, but it was not an issue for us. The sauce is absolutely delicious 🤤! We finished it all. After we finally got in and ordered, the drinks and food was served pretty fast. We were really hungry and felt a bit of a hurry to eat fast knowing that so many people are waiting in the queue, but we realised and slowed down a bit. The atmosphere was nice, was very busy but we could still have a conversation, it wasn't too loud. The waiters very attentive and friendly. We stayed roughly 45-50 min at our table. Overall, I would highly recommend Swiss Butter and can't wait to return for another delicious steak! Enjoy! 🍽️

I recently visited Swiss Butter in London with my family, and it was an exceptional dining experience focused on steaks and rich, flavorful gravies. From the moment we arrived, the warm and cozy atmosphere set the tone for a comforting meal. The staff were attentive and friendly, making sure we felt welcome and well cared for throughout our visit. We ordered several steak dishes, each cooked to perfection—juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The quality of the meat was evident in every bite, and the accompanying gravy was rich, smooth, and the perfect complement to the steaks. The portions were generous, leaving us fully satisfied without feeling overwhelmed. Alongside the steaks, the side dishes were thoughtfully prepared and fresh, adding great texture and balance to the meal. The menu offered just the right variety to keep things interesting but stayed focused on what they do best. Swiss Butter is a gem for steak lovers looking for a cozy spot in London where quality and flavor come first. It’s a great place for families or groups who want hearty, satisfying food in a relaxed setting. We left happy, full, and already planning our next visit.

Swiss Butter absolutely delivered — a great mix of quality food, smooth service, and a relaxed retro atmosphere. I went for the ribeye on the bone (for two), and for the price (£43), it was genuinely one of the best steaks I’ve had. Perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavour. The signature butter sauce was velvety and rich, complementing the steak beautifully without overpowering it. Every dish that came out was of great quality and clearly prepared with care. Service was verging on excellent — attentive, friendly, and efficient, with just the right amount of interaction. The ambiance ties everything together: retro, chilled, and effortlessly comfortable, making it a spot I’d easily go back to.

We loved Swiss Butter! At first I wasn’t sure on how I would find the taste of the sauce as I heard people on TikTok compare it to a kind of mustardy sauce and I don’t like Mustard but I LOVED IT. The food was warm when it came out, chips were good! Didn’t find the food too salty as some people said, I found it the perfect balance. The bread was a lovely side to have, and overall presentation of the food was amazing. This place is definitely a good value of money for what you get, it filled me up so much I couldn’t even finish my chips and salad in the end 😂Would definitely go back again and again.

Tried to come on a friday night with other plans later in the evening…. no chance, people are still in the cue at 10pm it’s so busy. So we planned ahead and went on a Wednesday afternoon which was great, although it was still busy there was no cue and we sat down as we walked in. The waitress Rema was lovely, friendly and welcoming, recommended steak for my husband and brought the food with a smile. I had the chicken and we had the chocolate molten for dessert. All the food was delicious. wasn’t fatty, the sauce was nice. we would recommend and will 100% be back!

Just had a fantastic dinner at Swiss butter, tasted their limited time bone in ribeye steak. It was so so good, cooked to perfection, huge portion even though we shared it for 2. Loved both of their desserts and the service was in point. Though the place is full they make your drinks and food super quick, impressive. Big thanks to our waiter Mohamed for taking care of us. Very attentive and he gave us good suggestions of what to order. Big respect to the management for creating such a nice spot in London.

We went in for lunch on a Thursday at 12, no queues when we went though this may have been due to tube strikes. Overall we had a great experience. The sirloin steak and the salmon were both tender and cooked perfectly. The sauce paired perfectly with both proteins. I wish there had been salt and pepper on the table as I felt the some elements of the dishes did need it (jacket potato and chips). We also got the pain perdu which was amazing. Service was great too! We'd definitely be back.
