15 Best Breweries in Charlotte

"Located in the trendy, walkable South End neighborhood, Sycamore Brewing is the go-to Charlotte hangout for ambitious professionals in their 20s and early 30s and for their dogs. Beyond just slinging pints, the brewery hosts several large-scale beer and music festivals a year, each attracting thousands of people. Depending on when you visit, you might find Food Truck Friday, an oyster roast, or the Lobster and Beer Fest, which has garnered interest from nearly 10,000 people on Facebook." - Lauren Levine

A massive, independent South End taproom with a second-floor deck and skyline views. Covered by industry press and local outlets for its multi-level space, it’s a family-friendly stop for beer, coffee, and live music nights.

We have such great memories of Sycamore Brewing’s original location-especially Food Truck Fridays! Back when I was in grad school in the late 2010s, it was the place to be on the weekends. The beer was always fantastic, and hanging out on the patio with our dog made it even better. I celebrated my PhD there, along with so many birthdays and holidays with friends. It looks like they’ve updated or renovated since then, as recent photos don’t quite match what we remember-but it will always be a Charlotte favorite for us. Sometimes our friends send us beer in the mail :)

Loved this place so much. Very cool vibe with seating galore. Very cool aesthetic. Staff are wonderful and took time to tell me their recommendations. Good place to hang out and chill as there is so much in the area. I had the Mountain Candy IPA while my wife had the frozen espresso martini, both of which were amazing.

Sycamore Brewing has an awesome outdoor space with a fun and vibrant atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that instantly puts you in a good mood. Their beer selection is diverse and creative—whether you're into hazy IPAs, crisp lagers, or something fruity, there’s something for everyone. I especially enjoyed their seasonal releases, which had great flavor and balance. The staff was welcoming and quick with service, even during busy hours. There’s usually a food truck on-site, which adds to the chill vibe. A perfect spot to hang out with friends, listen to music, and unwind with a cold pint. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area

Google
I have always loved Sycamore. We love to think nostalgically about the old days when there were just a bunch of picnic tables, a dirt lot, and dogs ruled the roost. This is not that Sycamore. This new place is big and shiny and busy! They have food - i love their pizzas and burgers! They have a coffee bar that I have not tried. There is always something going on there and you will almost always see someone you know!

Google
A great venue but the beer selection was not at all in my wheelhouse. Nothing but lagers and IPAs. I enjoy both of those styles to some degree and I realize it is summer but for crying out loud. How do you not have at least a brown, a stout, and a bock for people that want beer that actually has a flavor beyond hops? Definitely not my best stop in Charlotte.

Google
Really enjoyed stopping in here on a recent trip for some beers. Beautiful and large space. Good space both indoors and outdoors. Liked the beer selection there and got a couple of the light beers that were very good. Great for just a few people or a large group.

Google
The outdoor dining and live band were top tier! A very lively spot on the weekend and super dog friendly. We loved it.

Google
RACIST ESTABLISHMENT This has never happened to us in any country, city, nowhere. We visited the establishment today to try the beers. They asked for our IDs (which is normal, just like everywhere else), but when we presented our official identification, they refused to serve us because they were international. We’re from Mexico and just here on vacation — obviously, we don’t have any official U.S. government-issued ID (other than our visas, which, as you can imagine, we wouldn’t use to go to a bar). The staff was rude the entire time. We had to stay because we had already ordered our food

Yelp
So it was date night! We decided to go to Sycamore Brewery for drinks and a good time. The ambiance was lively giving family and friends of all demographics a welcome vibe to come drink and socialize at. We definitely struggled with seating, but that's like at any brewery you go to in South End. Once we found seating we were extremely comfortable it wasn't too loud, and I'm sure there can be way more belligerent people but it was calm, everyone was cool, we sat on the top floor for a great view of the Carolina skyline and had a great time. Another minor frustration is when we didn't get a text telling us our food was ready , we had asked the same waitress who took our orders and she said she would go check for us. The frustrating part isn't waiting on food we have patience, it's the fact that the waitress went downstairs to check on our food, came back up empty handed just to tell us "your food is ready, I didn't bring it because I wasn't sure if you wanted ketchup or mayo." Grant you, they were in little HIENZ packs so lmaoo yeah. Despite the service and seating the food was surprisingly good! We had the Crab & Artichoke dip to start which was excellent, I had a burger with Bacon Jam which was delicious and my lady had a Vegan Burger which she enjoyed. We both agreed that this was the type of spot that you'd come to for a pre game, a good time for the summer, and family and friends meet up. The beer was also great too s/o to the bartenders upstairs they served up a GREAT frozen espresso martini. Overall experience, great. My girl and I left knowing we had a great time (of course we have a great time together) but sycamore delivered. Would recommend

Yelp
Really unique beers and super friendly staff. Despite how busy it is, they will always talk/explain the beer selection to you. The outdoor space is great, especially when the live music lures you in from the rail line. The indoor food spot is a nice touch too.

Yelp
It took two tries to find Sycamore and the second was only because we'd found street parking. There is a parking deck but we did a quick in-and-out because there is no need to pay that much for parking in South End when there are other places that parking is free. Sycamore is on the Rail Trail and faces the light rail. Once you understand that, it's super easy to get to, especially on foot or you can take the train. It's between East/West and the soon to be built Southline station. Sycamore is fancy. Lots of exposed wood, great lighting and tables all about. Expect it to be full of local young professionals drinking and enjoying nibbles. The pizza looked great and they have burgers too. [Review 2507 of 2024 - 3960 in North Carolina - 23519 overall]

Yelp
They have you on tap at Kick Back Jacks. What a wonderful brew for the summer Completely refreshing and a light citrus. Great work, thank you.

Yelp
I loved Sycamore! It's absolutely beautiful here and I love that it's two floors with an upstairs bar. My friend and I came on a Wednesday evening and it was pretty busy, but the line moved quickly. I saw that yoga was being hosted and it looked so fun! Would love to check that out sometime. We were able to easily find street parking which I'm sure that isn't always the case, but it's possible! I loved my Southern Girl ale. It was crisp and full bodied, but also light. I look forward to coming back here soon!

Yelp
I went hers because I just got a new puppy and wanted to take her somewhere dog friendly. The weather was chilly and we sat on the downstairs patio. It was equipped with tower heaters and quite comfortable! I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and a spritzer. The wrap was just okay I would have preferred more buffalo sauce to blue cheese crumbles . The spritzer has way too much aperol in it . I didn't finish it . Over all service was good . I'll be back to try other items .

Yelp
One of the best places to explore Charlotte. Will visit again. Loved the variety of brews. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere was perfect for relaxing with friends. A must-visit spot for beer lovers!

Caitlyn M.

Yelp
Decent beer, worst service ever. Very rude staff. I'd go to Divine Barrel or HopFly instead. Don't waste your time.

Renee H.

Yelp
My husband and I came to eat lunch Sunday June 29th around 12:30-1pm. I ordered the Italian sandwich, I was NOT informed nor did it say anywhere on the menu the sandwich was spicy or had pesto on it. After we ordered I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and use the restroom, no toilet paper in most of the stalls and the hand dryers didn't work. There was paper on the floor and all around dirty. This wasn't our first visit here and it never looked or was this bad. The people working there didn't seem to care and definitely didn't do anything about our concerns and complaints.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times with my mom when visiting my brother. We know this place can get jam packed when we've passed by it in the city, so it's nice to come when no one is here. It's pretty all over, clean, and a chill spot to come to. We enjoyed the second floor; literally it was just us which was a plus! I tried an IPA and relaxed with my family here.

Yelp
Sycamore was the #1 recommended place to check out when I visited Charlotte and it lived up to the hype! Their space is huge and inviting. I love their beer selection as well as other seasonal drinks. Can't wait to return

Yelp
The beer at sycamore has had a good glow up. I've been coming back and regularly getting the Honeysuckle Summer Ale, which is delightfully floral. My party had mixed reviews about the pizza. In all consensus, the dough has a nice crisp, but lacks a developed yeast flavor, and could do with more salt. I however LOVED the short rib and mushroom pizza topping. I did have it made with vegan cheese, it would be my favorite pizza in CLT if it had more flavor with the dough. Another note, I never got my text message that my pizza was done. When I got my pizza, it was cold. These notes are all made with cold pizza as our reference.

Yelp
Visiting the south end was recommended by 2 different people so I knew I wanted to check out the area and was really glad I stopped by sycamore brewing. Really nice selection of IPAs, great pizza, a fresh salad and wonderful service. I loved the option to eat outdoors. Definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Known as the largest brewery in Charlotte, this spot is located in the heart of South End. This large two level establishment offers outdoor and indoor seating. We enjoyed two craft beers while watching the games on the many tv screens. They also have other cocktails, beer, wine and food. A great place to socialize.
google avatar

Yelp
Always a great time at Sycamore! Went on a cold Sunday and the heater was lit by a worker. It did not take too long to feel warm. I tried the holiday spritz and it was too bitter for me because of the aperol. The food was hot and fresh. Love the bleu cheese in the wrap.

Yelp
Sycamore just keeps getting better & better!! The new location is 10/10. It has such an amazing vibe and aesthetic to it. It has so much seating - like genuinely so much!! It has ample seats inside / outside, perfect for casual birthday parties, events & a cold one outside. (Also dog friendly which is a plus) This was my first time having the food and it was so easy, you just ordered off the QR code & food was grab & go and done in easily 15 minutes!! It was so yummy. Would recommend checking out this new location for either a cold one or a meal

Yelp
Sycamore's OG location will always hold a special place in my heart, but this newer/modern space has all the glitz and glam that the brand needs to stay ahead of the curve. I came here for coffee and to do some work on a Sunday morning recently. The coffee options are pretty typical, but the syrups and flavoring are the best part. I got a blackberry matcha and it was a magical start to my day! There are plenty of spaces to sit on the bottom floor (you can go to the bar area and sit on the high tops) and look out at the rail trail. It was pretty empty on this morning and staff were prepping for the day walking about, but I was able to get in my own bubble and get some work done. I will definitely be back during the day/night to try out the other aspects Sycamore has to offer!
google avatar

Alandria M.

Yelp
My partner and I visited sycamore on a quiet Monday early afternoon. It was pretty empty and very chill! Love love their beers. So smooth. We shared the wings and antipasto salad. Yum! Would visit here again and suggest it to friends
google avatar

Yelp
A decent Sunday early evening spent here. The drinks are great & fairly priced. Remained at an outdoor table for vibes & the views. Had to clear our own table of prev dirty dishes to actually sit but it also seemed short staffed. Went down stairs & grabbed pickled fries & pretzel sticks to go which was a life saver and so good & fresh!

Yelp
Sycamore Brewing was one of the first places I started to frequent with friends back when I had first moved to Charlotte. Of course back then Southend looked a lot different, and so did Sycamore. Thus when they announced that they were going to be closing their original location to build a new one as part of the new development of the area, I was happy for their success, but still a little sad to see it go. I think because of this I was a little hesitant to come visit their new location upon reopening, because it just wouldn't be the same. I'm glad I got over that, because the new location really has a lot to offer! For one it is much larger with a lot more seating and multiple stories and bars. They keep a good crowd, but they are well staffed and efficient so it doesn't take too long to get a beer which is a problem that they had at the old location. There is a nice combination of indoor and outdoor seating so if you want to enjoy the weather, you can grab a table or bench, or if you're sweltering in the heat and want to cool off in the ac, you can head inside. They have live music still although I haven't seen it to the scale of their original food truck Fridays. But speaking of food they also have a kitchen now that serves burgers, pizzas, and wraps to name a few. The food is pretty darn good too! So while the nostalgia is no longer there, I can embrace that Sycamore has been a great success story and will continue to be a patron.

Yelp
Sycamore Brewing is a beautiful spot for sitting back and enjoying a delicious brew with friends and family, they offer an upstairs deck which is very cozy & a great spot to catch the sunset. Their menu has something for everyone, I went with their hazy ipa which was delicious and right up my alley and really savory, thank you to the bar staff for the recommendation.

Yelp
This is a cool brewery with a lot of outdoor seating butted up against "the line" which is a walking / biking trail running through the south end/ south side park area of Charlotte. Great setting to hang with you r dogs and people watch. We posted up here today for several hours and had a great time. Service and staff were friendly and there're a fun vibe here.

Maresa J.

Yelp
It's obnoxiously loud when they have bands play. The bands are great performers, but I don't understand why they need to have the volume up so loud to the point it's hard to have a conversation with my friends. They should turn it down a little bit so that the ambiance would be more enjoyable. I thought that I was going to a brewery, not a concert venue.
google avatar

Audrey H.

Yelp
Sycamore is a go-to spot for many in South End. Their beer is fine, standard and nothing special, but I do appreciate their non alcoholic options like mocktails and fun-flavored sodas. The batched cocktails are good. The food is standard too, also nothing special. The atmosphere is very lively, and though there's tons of seating, there's often not a place to sit during peak times. It's pretty though, and they have live music often. It's a good spot for casual drinks.
google avatar

Tanner K.

Yelp
One of the most popular breweries in CLT and it's easy to see why. Beer is solid in taste and always cold, plenty of staff to pour you a cold one, and the multi level modern design is awesome. Great spot but just missing that signature quality that I can't quite put my finger on. Never a bad time here.
google avatar

Yelp
Sycamore Brewing's new South End taproom might just be one of the coolest spots in North Carolina to kick back with a delicious local beer in a fun, upscale environment. The 2-story beer garden on the Rail Trail was brimming with energy on both of my recent visits, and feels as much like a low-key nightclub as a brewery. Both floors have tons of indoor and outdoor seating, along with lots of TVs, a cornhole area and an Airstream food truck. There are also multiple bars on both levels, making it easy to dive into their fabulous brews, craft cocktails or wine offerings without much of a wait. And of course, Sycamore's beer is some of the best in Charlotte. Try their crisp and hoppy Mountain or Beach Candy IPAs, the Southern Girl Blonde or citrusy Super Quench wheat. Or better yet, order a flight and grab an outdoor table to enjoy a terrific view of Uptown. The taproom has no dedicated onsite parking, but if you don't come by the light rail, there are public and private lots all over the neighborhood. A must-visit for any hopheads in the Queen City, Sycamore sets a new standard for urban taprooms, and is one of the best places to hang out in South End.

Garrett H.

Yelp
Very clean, atmospheric, friendly establishment. Lively environment and some amazing beer. Good live music regularly and a great staff. Parking is the only downfall, but you're in Charlotte.
google avatar

Jordan B.

Yelp
Sycamore is a great brewery! They have a variety of beers to choose from, along with some food options. They also have coffee/tea in the mornings, available for order. Inside and outside, there is plenty of seating as well for all with high tables and benches outside on the patio. The staff is great, whether it be giving suggestions and samples, or in the re-ups. It's located right on the light rail line in Southend. So you can take the light rail or park in the attached garage. Definitely give them a try!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Great place! Wide open environment and friendly service. Nice place to gather with friends.
google avatar

Caroline F.

Yelp
Love the beer, vibes and location. This place is huge, and depending on your mood you can either socialize on one of the long tables on the ground floor, or find a smaller table tucked away from the crowds. I get the Mountain candy and sometimes the Beach Candy IPA. The food isn't the best which is the only reason I took away a star. Trivia is fun, but it's so loud that you can barely hear the questions. Still great for happy hour any day of the week!
google avatar

Adam K.

Yelp
Do not get the coffee here. They have very nice espresso machine but will serve you coffee from a crappy apartment complex style espresso machine that taste horrible. No Clue why they would have a a la marzocco just to not use it. What a joke.

Kristina P.

Yelp
Great beer and great service. Awesome live music as well. Quick trip on the light rail.
google avatar

Tara T.

Yelp
Had a great visit here while in town for a wedding! Loved the two floors, and the bar area was so nice! The staff was all very friendly! The food I had was good, I got the Vegan Cheeseburger. Would definitely come back the next time I'm in Charlotte!
google avatar

Meredith C.

Yelp
Super fun new location and major upgrade for them!! They have multiple bars both upstairs and downstairs. They have plenty of drink options more than just beer. There are tons of tables- outside and inside both upstairs and downstairs. Seriously so many options of where to sit. The whole place is SO nice and you can tell recently built. They have a very spacious bathroom too. THEY HAVE FOOD! We weren't sure about this but they had a whole menu with salads, sandwiches, burgers and pizzas. It's at a separate counter than the drinks, walk up and order and they text you when it's ready. Mine was ready almost immediately and it tasted delicious!!! I thought I loved sycamore but I love them even more after visiting the new location!
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of time and the atmosphere is awesome. The beer is phenomenal. I've yet to have a beer that wasn't good. This is a great spot to enjoy a nice beverage and hang out with friends. I highly recommend.

Mingo B.

Yelp
Great beer, amazing vibe, very different from your typical brewery, the yippee Calle is to die for. Coming from Miami love the vibe. The trio dip was awesome. Highly recommend. As for Arin, awesome bar service
google avatar

Suzanne A.

Yelp
Sycamore Brewing's new location at Southend. What a great place to spend time with friends. There are 2 floors of space with many options to sit...both inside or outside. From picnic tables, to couches, bean bag chairs, bar tables, etc. There are many options to suit your interest and comfort. There is a band that plays regularly on the second floor. Nice view but limiting as there are apartments that surround the location. This area is growing very fast. It is certainly a place to be. I hope you enjoy Sycamore brewing as much as we did.
google avatar

Jake J.

Yelp
Solid classic brewery with a cool spot in Charlotte. I wish they sold tin tackers I could order online :(
google avatar

Tracy S.

Yelp
The atmosphere was inviting and casual. There's a coffee bar, small sandwich shop, an upstairs an outdoor beer garden. They had frozen espresso martinis, Margueritas, all were priced according to South End standards. This is definitely a place that people come to hang out. It's right along the South End Rail Trail.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
We love to bring our dog here and hang out on the patio tables while sipping on a Sycamore brew. The antipasto salad is SO dang good. I get a dairy free version with the chicken on it and the chopped up olives really enhance it. The bartenders are always friendly!

Carolinas Inc F.

Yelp
Great atmosphere on the weekends. They have live bands playing when I've visited them on Sundays. They have beer from a wide variety and wine selection as well. I've tried their burgers and fries and I was actually impressed by their burgers. Meat was fresh and tasty. It is a great place to bring your doggos if you have any
google avatar

Max M.

Yelp
Bartenders and bouncers have no clue what a real ID looks like. Incompetent and disrespectful staff.
google avatar

Sally R.

Yelp
This was an excellent lunch. The margaritas were handmade no syrup mix. The shrimp was excellent, and the tacos were wonderful strongly. Recommend.
google avatar

Tharin W.

Yelp
We loved the multi-level seating, with indoor, outdoor and balcony areas. There was trivia that night, but we didn't want to join and were able to go to the second floor to have a quieter area. The drinks were fairly priced and well made.
google avatar

Finn B.

Yelp
Service sucks but food is so good! We waited to be the next person in line to order a drink and it took at least 10 minutes because the bartender was flirting with the girl ahead of us in line. I recommend their potato wedges, pizzas, or wings. The mac and cheese is mediocre.
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
Pretty nice place - this is a large brewery space and the charm is really in the decor. Tons of seating both inside and outside with a nice view of the walking trail (people watching). They did not have very much on tap which surprised me. I enjoyed the IPA I ordered but I was really expecting more of a selection. Maybe that's coming down the road since this seems like a newer brewery. Hip place to bring a group of friends or even a date.
google avatar

Anastasia W.

Yelp
This was a bit tricky to find due to the construction around but definitely glad I found it. The inside is absolutely beautiful and the beer was really good! I loved all the seating options they had and multiple levels you could sit at.
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
I had high hopes, since I have enjoyed getting Sycamore beer from stores over the years. Unfortunately, this place was a bit too trendy for my taste, but there was a crowd, so clearly there's a demand! Finding the place was a challenge, as there were no signs, and it turns out that the location is in the back near a walking trail. Parking was really difficult, too, as it's either pay to park for 4 hours in a lot, or $10 garage parking. Not ideal for someone who just wants to pop in. Beer selection was pretty small compared to the other drink options. Dogs are allowed outside in the beer garden, and they have plenty of buckets/bowls for them. Plenty of seating inside and out.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Sycamore Brewing is an awesome spot in the South End that has set the standard for high end cray beer taprooms. The downstairs and outdoor area in the first floor have a modern, free flowing design that invites a casual hangout with friends. The second floor has a 'stage' for live music and a turf area begging for casual day drinking or a kicked up night of more serious drinking. You can't go wrong - I focused on their Pale Ales. The Sycamore Double India Pale Ale has a slightly dank aroma, but delivers with peach, passionfruit and orange flavors. I also lived the Drippy India Pale Ale which delivers bright citrus flavors. The atmosphere sphere is amazing and the service is outstanding! I highly recommend a visit it 2 or 3!
