"Chef and owner David Punch’s first restaurant, Sycamore, has been a favorite of Newton residents and beyond for over a decade. Its Mediterranean-inspired, locally sourced plates are comforting and deliver big flavors. Sycamore’s grower wine (wine that is typically grown, produced, and sold by the same maker), craft beer, and specialty cocktail and mocktail menus are just as impressive as the food. Its sister restaurants Little Big Diner, offering ramen, rice bowls, and street food, and Jinny’s (also on this list) are great dining options too." - Carolyn Grillo

The menu was limited but the food was tasty. We had the braised lamb. It saids for 2 but it's not. One person can certainly eat it. The service was pristine and the place was clean. The crafted cocktails were very good. The smoked blue fish pate was delicious and the potato wedges were also delicious. It was a side, but we need to get it while waiting for the lamb. Worth going.

We have had several amazing meals in this cosy, warm and welcoming joint right in the middle of Newton centre. We went once without a reservation and sat at the bar but have had to book early in almost every other occasion. The food is always perfect in every way which does not happen frequently and when it does – it is a great experience. The cavatelli was outstanding. Same with the porkchops. The deserts were great too. The staff were attentive , and at the same time knowledgeable about what was on offer. The managers too are extremely nice and offered us some very helpful advice on the venue itself. That said, I’ve found that the steak is chewy and I wouldn’t order it again. I do miss the pork chop as it’s sometimes not on the menu but then I find something else to dote on -without fail. All said, this is a place that one can keep going back to. Menu keeps changing and it’s always full but it’s definitely worth it and make a reservation to avoid disappointment as it’s always full - even on weekends

Today it was busy but I was able to reserve a table on “ open table “. I had the steak 🥩 it was really good . The picture is below ⬇️. My husband had the chicken it tasted fresh and was really good . The portion sizes are really good. I was surprised by that . The fruity cocktails I tried them all , they are really good . I have some pictures below ⬇️. The place is spotless including the bathrooms .

It was an amazing restaurant. Each dish came with a pleasant surprise, and the flavors were excellent. The ceviche was presented differently than I had imagined, and the gratin was creatively prepared like lasagna. Even the corn soup was an arrangement I had never tasted before. However, every dish blended the local ingredients beautifully, creating a new and delightful taste. The syrup-soaked cake for dessert was also a stylish and innovative dish, with chai spices adding a unique twist to the sweetness. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was chic, and there was a steady stream of local customers. Although Newton is a bit far from downtown Boston, this place is definitely a taste I would recommend to friends.

My partner and I decided we didn’t want to cook tonight. So we flipped a coin to decide who picked and he chose the first result on Google Maps. Safe to say we were not disappointed and left thoroughly impressed. Our bartender was excellent. The drinks were awesome. The food was delicious, especially the canestri pasta and the beignets for dessert. Sycamore, you just got two repeat customers. We will DEFINITELY be back for more (and will make a reser-bison in advance) 😁

I had high hopes! I ordered steak and fries The steak was really over cooked I ordered a medium well steak and I was served a very well done steak! To my surprise a steak like this left the kitchen since they slice the steak and have the opportunity to do some quality control Fries were really good but that’s not what you’re paying almost $50 for. My server didn’t take my feedback well at all!

All dishes are on the small side and expensive here, but everything full of flavor and very high in quality. I felt my money was well spent and will come here again and try other dishes. Below is what is ate for dinner. Bluefish pate- very fresh. Very light ocean taste with a nice combination of spices. The pate was thick and spread nicely over the toasted sourdough chips 4/5 Corn soup- focused on the savory side of corn rather then the sweet. Bursting with flavor with a nice kick at the back end. The scallops added some nice texture to the soup. 5/5 Swordfish- perfectly cooked with a nice sear on top. Salsa vede had deep flavor and a mild spiciness that complimented the dish well. 5/5 manjari chocolate budino- basically a higher quality jello pudding. Came with a nice corn caramel sauce and and some Chintelly cream. This was pretty good. 4/5 I would recommend giving this place shot and is a good excuse to get out of the city. . High quality and delicious food

Went here for the first time with a friend. The service here is outstanding. Everyone is so friendly and attentive. Had the tuna meatballs which was honestly not something I would typically go for and all of the flavors were well balanced and delicate. The falafel entree was cooked to perfection (not too dry or falling apart). Both my friend and I ordered the hot yoga cocktail which one staff member described as “summer in a glass” and I have to agree! Everything was delicious. Hope to be back soon to see what the summer menu offers.

Yelp
Saturday night dinner at Sycamore! Atmosphere: Newton has some great restaurants and Sycamore is one of them. This restaurant has been on my foodie bucket list (you know you have one) for quite some time. I was so happy to be able to go last night with friends. It is super cute, and quaint with a farmhouse vibe. We were greeted by one of the staff who brought us to our table. The menu is small which for some people who are indecisive including me is a good thing. You don't want to be overwhelmed at a restaurant trying to decide what you want and take forever to order (also me). Service: Our server Kristen was amazing, friendly, and helpful which you rarely see. She offered suggestions from cocktails to menu items. Food and Wine: We started with the Maine Red Fish Ceviche and House-made Canestri pasta. Everything was perfect, especially the Canestri. For entrees, I ordered the Swordfish which was tender and not meaty, which some can be. The spicy Romano beans that came with it were very spicy so be prepared. I love spice but this was just different. My husband ordered the Chicken with the succotash and this was amazing. My friends had the Bistro Steak (also excellent) and Rigatoncini "hot Italian lamb sausage" (probably my favorite dish). We had a few glasses of red wine with our food and for all you wine lovers I highly recommend the Barbera with dinner. A table favorite! Before getting the check there was a complimentary Tres Leches cake in front of our eyes. The Manager was so kind in sending this to us on the house. Our friend who was with us is also a Chef and interviewed here before. Overall: If you are ever in the Newton area, I highly suggest dining here at Sycamore. They open right at 430pm and you should make reservations beforehand to make sure you get in. If not there is always room at the bar. Their service, food, menu, and atmosphere made this experience exceptional. It is not always easy to accomplish this praise. They exceeded my expectations for sure. Cheers, and happy eating!

Yelp

Yelp
We came here for our seventh year wedding anniversary. I'm really glad we did because it was such a special meal. Everything was really delicious. They had three types of breads: the house made sourdough, the house made focaccia, and a crispy bread that was used to dip the bluefish pate. We ordered the pasta appetizer and the skirt steak. All of the food was delicious, although if I had one small complaint, it was that the steak came with an offensive amounts of fries. And I ate a lot of those fries. Almost ruined my photo. But it was all very, very tasty and our server, Kristen, was a pro.

Yelp
" Omg one of the absolute best steaks my lips have touched" My husband couldn't make it but I ordered the chicken on the menu for him . It was amazing he said . I tried a bit and that tasted fresh and super good. The service is amazing . I sat at an end table by the window they still didn't forget about me . The staff from the hostess to the waiters, they are super friendly, attentive and welcoming . The vibe is welcoming. The hostess was so busy but she still took the time to be very pleasant , friendly and attentive. The cocktails I tried all the fruity ones yum . The strawberry daiquiri they make the syrup fresh in-house it's so good .

Yelp
We are dining in this place 15 years in a row,but never get tired or bored. Chef Dave is one of the best chefs in this country in my personal culinary award list). Menu changes often, whatever pasta you see on the menu, take it. It will create a party in your mouth. Any sausages, and he is doing sausages from every meat ,poultry or game meat, try it. This will blow your mind!! If you need to adjust any dish to your dietary restrictions,it will come out from the kitchen as a beautiful concoction. I ordered last night salmon and ask it dairy free and it was most delicious dish, with stunning texture and sauce. I was offered raspberry vegan sorbet, which was delightful end of the dinner.Worth the trip, even if you are driving 100 miles and be patient with reservations ,it's not easy on the weekends.

Yelp
We loved our date night at Sycamore! The food is fresh and absolutely delicious. The service was great - our waitress was spot on with her drink recommendations for us. It was definitely a cozy spot, and I strongly suggest recommendations as the bar area was very crowded on the Thursday night we visited. Overall, very happy and we will definitely return!

Yelp
Omg what a great restaurant!! Squash salad & ceviche apps were sooo good! Swordfish entree was beyond the beyond! Albert our waiter was helpful about food & drink selections and very sweet. Friendly vibe all around. We will be back!

Yelp
Food - chorizo croquettas were tasty to start, but definitely on the small side. Moroccan sunchoke soup with dates was really good - creamy, savory and sweet, with notes of fall-like spices, this was a fav for me. I loved the roasted carrots and the Bolognese was solid. Mussels were pretty good but the broth was a bit light on flavor. The maple brined pork chop was generous on the meat, but I liked the kale sweet potato side more than the pork. Painted hills filet with blue cheese butter was cooked perfectly and the au gratin and salad side was good - this was my fav main, a classic that was executed well. For dessert the beignets with caramel or "milk jam" were delightful and the peanut butter chocolate bar was really dang good. Drinks - as a bloody Mary aficionado I enjoyed the ghost of mary martini, captured the essence of a bloody remarkably well. The falerno was refreshing with a little kick and I thought the citrus was balanced well with the mezcal and falernum. Service was really good, host, bartender and the server were on top of it. Ambience was nice with the brick wall, kind of standard new American New England feel. Overall, I thought there were some standouts on the food and would definitely return.

Yelp
This restaurant gets great reviews, and the service was good. I think I just ordered the wrong food. The bread and butter and the pork belly (but not the salad it came on) were delicious. The lumache pasta with shrimp came in a watery sauce that left me cold. The beignets were OK with a watery caramel sauce The restaurant staff members were nice and comped our desserts after realizing I hated my main course. I doubt I'll ever eat here again.

G P.

Yelp
We sat outdoors. Nice ambience and great food, drinks, and service. Loved both the strawberry daiquiri and ghost of mary for drinks. Also loved the green garlic panisse, ceviche, snap pea salad, and spaghetti. Chilled cucumber soup was okay.

Yelp
Sycamore knocked my socks off. Chef Dave Punch has a winning streak of fantastic restaurants in Newton, otherwise known as the holy trinity in Newton Centre (Jinny's, Big Little Diner, and Sycamore) - I believe he used to helm Buttonwood in Newton Highlands before he sold it, which has a similar vibe and menu to Sycamore. Of the three, Sycamore is pricier and a bit more formal. The menu focuses on only a few starters and mains, which updates every few weeks (days?) to focus on seasonal ingredients. I loved the falerno! cocktail to start, nice blend of tequila, grapefruit, some chili spice, and hellfire bitters. Everything under the starters section looked intriguing but we went with the grilled shrimp ceviche and kale + farro salad. Salads tend to play second fiddle to other dishes but this one may have been my second favorite dish of the night. The combo of pine nuts and farro and pomegranate was genius, a great blend of texture and flavor. Definitely order this. The table next to us got it as soon as they saw us digging in. My favorite was the tandoori spiced swordfish. I'm a sucker for anything remotely curry-flavored and this one, with squash and chickpeas, some sort of yogurt, and ginger on top (come on, just look at that ingredient list), was A+. Swordfish, in my experience, is tricky to cook just right - overcooking makes the texture all stringy, undercooking turns it into rubber. This was THE most tender piece of fish I've ever eaten. It was like fish pudding. My husband's cod cakes were excellent - they had just added it to the menu the day before, to rave reviews - but I preferred the swordfish. We were too stuffed for dessert but Josh was super kind enough to bring us two house-made beignets to sample. They were delicious, as fried pockets of dough are wont to be, but I'd slather that milk caramel/butterscotch sauce over anything and everything. Service was a highlight! Came by often to check in on how we were doing, if we wanted another drink, brought more water, etc. I didn't see any of the issues in other reviews. Josh and the others were more than happy to move customers over to other tables from the windows, which were drafty. A reservation on Thurs-Sat is a must, you can't really blame the restaurant if you're a walk-in and they only have certain seats left. Abundant parking in the lot a few feet away, free after 6pm.

Mike W.

Yelp
Great beers, great vibe, super staff. My favorite of all the Charlotte breweries. Love the upgrades - can't wait to go back

Needham G.

Yelp
Not sure how we didn't know about this place sooner but it is one of the best restaurants in the western suburbs. Everything was perfect; service, food, ambiance.... The kale salad, the white bolognese and croquet apps were delicious. The steak frites and the chick paillard were both awesome as well. It wasn't the cheapest meal, but you def get what you pay for there. Can't wait to go back.

Terri L.

Yelp
Take a date try the lamb! This is my go to spot for a very good meal. (Love the wait staff)

Dee B.

Yelp
Overall: I would definitely return to Sycamore as their menu changes frequently. I would anticipate that this restaurant is not the most efficient or consistent. A wait may occur for your server (or someone) to take the drink/food order. I would anticipate that workers may have a bad attitude and write off the interaction as they walked away ensuring it doesn't ruin a nice dinner. Food: _Chorizo Croquettas_ small but packed with great flavor. The red pepper romesco sauce that comes underneath is fresh and delish. _Semonlina Rigatoni/Rigatoncini_ wow! this dish was excellent, the venison is seasoned perfectly and the pasta is packed with great flavor. The harmony of flavors in this dish is fantastic _Cassoulet for two_ After having the two amazing starters we were disappointed with the cassoulet. While the meat is very tender, the dish just didn't have the depth, seasoning, and flavors to make it special. The beans needed more seasoning, they felt like an afterthought and the sauce was watery. _Chantenay carrots_ Just get them. They will be some of the best carrots you've tasted for the price. They are amazingly fresh, and sweet while the goat cheese added a touch of tartness. _Roasted brussels sprouts_ Too much going on here, an edit is needed to make sure the flavors that are meant to come through, do come through at the end. A lot of the brussel sprouts were soggy. Service & Hospitality: The restaurant was full for a Thursday night at 7:30. It took a few minutes for someone to greet us, which is understandable considering it was busy. The greeting was quite curt. While we thought they may not be the most welcoming (based on other reviews), the restaurant should work on being more welcoming to guests. The host also has other responsibilities, the energy and vibe can certainly carry over to your table service creating a potentially sour evening.

A D.

Yelp
The foods and services were outstanding!! I had the leek and potatoes gratin dauphinios. OMMMG!! So delicious and I'm also getting the poached pear for dessert- a definite winner!!!

Mikaela M.

Yelp
We will never eat here again despite enjoying the food. The food is delicious and the servers are polite. But the management provides terrible service.

Mauricio T.

Yelp
Not a fan at all.. super limited menu but the true feedback is on the terrible hostess that was so rude cause we got there 5 min early. Not a fan of how loud the place was

Jennifer S.

Yelp
As you can see by my previous reviews, I don't think I have ever gone out of my way to write a bad review. However, the person who answered the phone when I called to make a reservation was one of the rudest most unprofessional people I've ever encountered. I have worked in the service industry over 20 years. Never in my life would I hang up on someone or speak to them the way I was spoken to. After this man hung up on me, I attempted to call back in hopes to speak with a manager- I got their voice mail and the person in the voice mail was the same rude man I spoke to. pretty much figured out it must be the owner... I will never step foot into your restaurant and if I ever hear about anyone talking about going there I'll make sure to give them every reason not to. happy holidays

Leslie S.

Yelp
This is tough as I really wanted to give more stars but to me, service makes the experience. It's pretty clear on entering that they have a "system" and do NOT expect them to deviate. Unless you are a regular. My husband and I walked in Wednesday night around 7:45 pm. The place was hopping! We like to sit at the bar when we go out to eat, and always prepare to wait. Two seats opened at the end of the bar. We weren't sure if it was first come or on a list. The host/manager was buzzing around like a frantic bee, so I walked over to two newly vacant seats and stood there while my husband waited at door to get someone to confirm. Not ONE singlee person at the bar (3 people, owner and two others all behind small bar) looked at me. Nothing. Manager/Host also put up his finger for my husband to "wait" before he acknowledged him. Finally, my husband asked, "May we sit there?" Answer "no, you may not " and finally FINALLY brought over the couple that was waiting, 10 minutes later. Ok. Whatever. We stood at a teeny tiny counter while we waited for two seats. Ordered a couple Bissell Bros Substances and 20 or so minutes and we were seated. Onto the bar service. Have you ever been to a place where nothing is wrong with service but nothing is quite right. He did his job. He was attentive. He was cordial. And he was COLD !!! No smile, no "how is everything " no recommendations. Just. Did. His. Job. If you like that, you will like this type of service. Food was great and good. Citrus salad. Amazing. Steak frites. Good. $200 bucks later. Meh Space is beautiful, though small! Make a reservation or be a regular if you are a walk in.

Jeff F.

Yelp
Worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood. Here's the food rundown: - chorizo croquettas: A+ - lobster gemelli: A - polenta ravioli: B+ - grilled spanish mackerel: B - catalan seafood stew: B+ FOH is....interesting. Solid wines by the glass.

Saul B.

Yelp
Most restaurants are fine if you're hungry. Sycamore is always the most interesting, best tasting meal of any place I eat. You need to plan ahead for a reservation but it's well worth it. Only negative, the greeter at the front door is usually rude. Get past the greeter and you will be fine. Sitting at the bar for dinner is also a great experience

Ellen W.

Yelp
Always delicious. Carefully prepared & served. Wine selection is also varied and very good.

Luis F.

Yelp
Definitely a great experience every time we dine here. The service, attention to detail, engagement with staff...oh, and the food is quite spectacular.

Karen O.

Yelp
Overall a very pleasant experience. Service was a little slow but the food was excellent. The steak dish was very good as was the chicken. All menu items are a La carte. Definitely plan on coming back.

Nick A.

Yelp
Food is amazing, specially their pizza it's new York style full of goodness. Highly recommended

Patrick M.

Yelp
Always fantastic- just the best in Newton. Reliable for all the years we have lived here.

Chris P.

Yelp
Food was excellent but pricey. However, the evening was marred by the rudeness of the host. On arrival, I identified myself and said I knew I was very early for our reservation and that my colleague was also trying to arrive early in case anything opened up ahead of our reservation. I was told there wasn't an available table, which was fine, but when I asked if I could wait somewhere he replied, "well there's a bench outside" as if I were asking for some unreasonable accommodation. Also got a snippy response when I went back in to ask if they had WiFi. At the time of our reservation I started to go in just to let him know that my colleague had arrived, but before I could get through the door, the host (in a raised voice) says "I'M AWARE," again, as if I was the one being the jerk. Totally unnecessary attitude. The waitstaff was attentive and professional, and as stated above, food was excellent, but the host was plain rude.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Obnoxious policy of requiring you to give them a credit card to make a reservation, and then charging $25 PER PERSON (so $100 for a rez for four) if you don't make it to your reservation, EVEN IF you call in advance to let them know you won't be able to make it because of circumstances beyond your control (like a doctor taking you an hour late). As if they couldn't/wouldn't use the table if you let them know ahead of time. Obnoxious.

Laura H.

Yelp
I really, really want to like this place, I love their other restaurants, but Sycamore falls short. Service was good, food is ok, not sure it's worth the money you pay. Went specifically tonight for Wednesdays Burger, ordered medium rare, got well done, fries are frozen everyday fries, was hoping for the wonderful fries they have at Buttonwood. They did comp us bignets to make up for it, which were light, fluffy and delicious. Cocktails are creative and good. Would I go back, maybe for a cocktail and some hush puppies, but otherwise, I'll stick to the other 3 restaurants.

Gerardo P.

Yelp
Visited from Miami and was not disappointed. Absolutely amazing atmosphere the staff is very tentative. I tried multiple items and enjoyed them all. Wonderful deserts, beignets were my favorites. Must make reservations when in Boston Definitely a must visit.

Julian U.

Yelp
Sycamore is a cozy restaurant/bar in Newton with a nice warm ambiance and relatively open kitchen. It's menu changes frequently, reflecting what's fresh seasonally. I came with my family on a Saturday night and we were promptly seated and greeted by our waiter, Josh, who provided excellent service with a sense of humor throughout the night. To start, we ordered a few cocktails and I had the Smoke & Haze which was more or less a mildly sweet Negroni w/ whiskey. To start, we had the baby kale salad w/ apples, mimolette cheese, and garlicky dressing. The salad had a nice balance of flavors, with richness and creaminess coming form the dressing and cheese which complemented the crispness of the apple and freshness of the baby kale. For my main I had the swordfish which I'd highly recommend. The fish was moist and the herby roasted tomato butter proved the perfect savory condiment to a fresh piece of swordfish. While I was originally unsure about the beans which came with the swordfish, the broth accompanying the beans and the spinach had a nice depth of flavor that made them an excellent side. Also tried my mom's gnocchi and my dad's fideos. Gnocchi was definitely preferred; the chicken meatballs with that dish were probably the most flavorful chicken meatballs I've ever had! We had a few beignets for dessert which our waiter noted was the only item which consistently stays on the menu. They definitely lived up to their reputation, with a crisp sugary exterior and soft, gooey interior. Overall the attentive service and delicious food make Sycamore an easy 5-star restaurant for me!

Solomon G.

Yelp
Great food. Great service and ambience. Really reasonable prices. All around a special and unique neighborhood spot.

Meghan S.

Yelp
I went there with my dad for dinner. The food was excellent- interesting flavors, cooked perfectly. I had the brined pork chop, my dad had the octopus. Service was lovely, no pressure to leave even when it was crowded. I'll def be back!

Lala T.

Yelp
It's good, a little more reliable than Farmstead next door, but the menu is dead conventional. Most of the items are on the heavy end in taste and caloric content, with little to refresh the palate. If you are a meat and potatoes person, you might enjoy Sycamore more than I do. It's just not very interesting. Clientele is on the older side of 50, which makes it, eh, less sexy

Hilary C.

Yelp
We had dear family in town to visit, and we attempted to join them for a fast bite after they sat down at Sycamore. Adorable place, and the service staff were lovely. The food was quite good and it was lovely ambiance. The only detractor was the surly, disdainful "host" who was deeply aggrieved that we wanted to join an existing party on a Tuesday at 5:00. The restaurant was two thirds empty, but we were clearly told that there was no room for us at all, other than to "push in" 2 more guests to a table for 4 that had 3 at it. He all but rolled his eyes at us, and when we appeared unlikely to depart, he indifferently told us we could briefly occupy one of the several empty tables of 2 "as long you are gone by 7." We were gone promptly as 6, after enjoying several delicious small bites and lovely conversation with beloved family. I expressed sincere appreciation to the less than gracious host on the way out in hopes that some happiness and joy might miraculously infect him with a more pleasant evening. Delightful food, cozy and inviting, minus the troll bridge at the front door.

Chase S.

Yelp
So glad for Sycamores take-out program. It's packaged well, is or nearly is the same dine-in menu, and just scrumptious. You should order ahead in the day on their website as pickup times go fast. The area out front is a little tight and might have to double park with flashers on to run in and get food. Luckily, it's always ready for us at the specified time, so easy in and easy out. We love their pimento cheese (with a sleeve of Ritz crackers included!), Gnocchi, chicken cacciatore, pork chop, and lamb shank. Always a great proprotion of sides and sauce so there's just enough but nothing get to soggy on the drive home. There's plenty of Todo booze and provisions too. Yum.

Melba R.

Yelp
I want to start out by pointing out the positive. The food was excellent. I loved that the menu is so small as that is a reflection of the high qualify of their food. The ambiance was great, positive vibe, inviting place however the service was terrible. My husband and I were on a night out to meet a couple friends of ours. We were catching up as we had not seen each other in a while. An hour into our dinner after having ordered appetizers and alcoholic drinks we were approached at our table by a manager who never even looked us in the eyes, stating "I noticed you have not ordered entries yet, I need you to look at the menu because I have more people coming after you" - I must say we are foodies and go out a lot. We have been to many great restaurants both locally and internationally and I have to say we have never been treated this way. We felt it was very rude and we felt harassed to get out of the restaurant, really? is that how you treat your patrons? Just not good treatment, not professional and we will certainly never come back!

I remember I came to Sycamore as a young college boy several years back with my family for a birthday, and it was good. But back then, I wasn't a Yelper. Now I am. Neither was I particularly interested in seeking out food substantially better than the usual college dining hall pizza. Now I do. And I recently went back to Sycamore for the first time in years. As soon as we walked in the establishment on a chilly Saturday evening, I was greeted by a cheerful lad working up front. Immediately made us feel like family, seating us very promptly. The restaurant has distanced the tables fairly well, and they did their due diligence to enforce mask wearing. I ordered an old-fashioned - can't go wrong. Classic taste, perhaps could have been stronger and slightly less sweet, but I still enjoyed it very much. We were not so confident with going the whole mile, so we skipped appetizers and went straight for the entrees. I ordered the chicken 'cacciatore'. The chicken was cooked to absolute perfection: seared skin to give some crisp on the outside, tender meat in the inside, and juices flowing. The salsa was basically illegal, because I think they put crack in that thing. She ordered the Berkshire pork chop, which was also very tender and tasty. We ordered the beignets for dessert, the timeless Sycamore classic. Just as delicious as I remember from several years ago. I think we'd all be hearing much much more about this place if it was in downtown Boston instead of in Newton Center. Well done, Sycamore. This is a perfect dinner experience, executed to the teeth.

Yelp
Elevated dining. Quiet environment. Excellent service. Wish they changed the menu seasonally.

Yelp
Easily one of the best spots around. Every time I've gone has been fantastic. The menu changes often - so don't be surprised if a standout dish isn't on there the next time you come back. But everything at Sycamore is excellent. The service is always top notch. Shoutout to Josh for the consistently warm hospitality. Love the vibe too! If you're in the Newton area - Sycamore is a must!

Yelp
I am a regular at Sycamore. My office is across the street and if I don't eat there I often order and pick up. Once you get in there it's fine but I have to say sometimes the matredi, first Lizzie and now Josh can be quite frosty and reserve seating for friends and say it's full. After an hour or more the people come in and I would have been long gone by then. Tonight I tried to get in there to eat and would have been gone by 7 because I had to work. I stopped myself from writing about this inconsistent treatment for a long time and tonight when Josh insisted he was full until 8:15 with 3 chairs at the bar empty and many tables open outside it was the last straw. It almost feels like I'm back in HS and I am not popular enough to get in. It's a shame that I will hesitate to come here more often because I never know how I'm going to be treated. The owner doesn't have attitude yet the gate keepers do. It's a real conundrum.

Yelp
I don't know where to start. The food? The service? The cocktails? The staff at Sycamore make you feel like they've been waiting for you to get there all day. They make you feel like you're their priority, dear friend, and favorite customer. Everyone. I could review the food, but the menu changes frequently, so all I'll say is simply that you cannot go wrong. There's no wrong answer. Stuck between two dishes? Get both. Portions are small, but flavors are BIG. And the drinks...these are the cocktails of my dreams. The falerno! and penicillin will transport you to a universe of bold flavors, expertly combined, where nothing matter except for the next sip. Sycamore is a sure thing. I am so, so happy they came out of the pandemic strong and together because our town wouldn't be the same without them. Thank you guys

Yelp
Great food. The wild boar ragu is amazing. But, the rudest staff ever. Multiple tries, each time just off the charts rude. I vote with my wallet. I won't be back.

Yelp
This was a to go order. Had striped bass which was supposed to come with a squash puree. That was missing, and Sycamore doesn't answer their phone and also asks that you not leave a voicemail. Fish was well cooked, a bit too lightly seasoned for me, and, as I mentioned, I received 2/3 of a meal with no way to communicate that ... I mean you can't really open an order and inspect it in the restaurant. So, a pass for me even though this is supposeddly the best restaurant in Newton. If so, the bar is low.

Yelp
Incredible. Incredible service, incredible food, incredible cocktails, incredible atmosphere. Servers, bartenders and owner all down to earth and made dinner an especially wonderful experience. Highly recommend the pate, salads and beignets

Yelp
By far our favorite restaurant. The staff is professional and when you combine that with the amazing food, the whole experience is special.
