I've always enjoyed visiting this casino for its entertainment and great restaurants, which is why I was excited to finally stay here for the first time to celebrate my friend's birthday. We booked a room specifically for Reggae Sundays and called the day before to ask if tickets were required for hotel guests. The customer service representative told us we would need to purchase tickets, so we did.
Since check-in wasn't until 3 PM and the concert started at 12 PM, we went straight to the event first. We arrived dressed appropriately for the pool -- in bathing suits, cover-ups, and sarongs -- and left our luggage in the car.
After the concert, we checked in and come to find out from the host we didn't need to purchase tickets for the event since we were staying at the hotel. We spent $150 all together for our 3 tickets which was unnecessary!
We then walked back to the garage to get our luggage and return to the hotel. To get there, we had to walk through the casino. While walking back, a security guard suddenly yelled at me, "Ma'am! Ma'am! Put a shirt on!" -- loudly and in front of a crowd of guests playing slots. I was shocked and completely humiliated by the way I was spoken to. My friend, also upset by the tone and public embarrassment, asked to speak to a manager. The guard became defensive, even cracking his neck in an intimidating way, and said there was no reason to speak to him that way.
We were later told that their policy requires guests to wear shirts while walking through the casino. However, this was never communicated to us at check-in, nor did we see any signs posted. We were coming directly from a poolside event hosted by the property, so it was reasonable to assume our attire was appropriate -- especially since many other guests were dressed similarly. I felt unfairly targeted and body-shamed.
We eventually spoke with a manager named Justin, who acknowledged that the security guard was out of line and should not have spoken to me that way. While I appreciated his honesty and professionalism, the experience left a lasting negative impression.
As a business owner, I understand the importance of treating customers with respect and professionalism. Sadly, due to how we were treated, I won't be returning. I'd rather take my business elsewhere where women are treated with dignity and respect.
