"The Dallas Observer reports that Sylvan Avenue Tavern, sister to Bryan Street Tavern, was the fifth business in the building to depart. The owners announced the closure in a Facebook post on November 4, citing the complex's decline and lack of support from property owners as reasons for closing." - Courtney E. Smith

"Sylvan Avenue Tavern, at 1888 Sylvan Avenue, is a sibling concept to Bryan Street Tavern, the Old East Dallas pub that has gained a reputation as a casual neighborhood hangout thanks to its laidback patio, thin-crust pizzas, and large selection of craft beer. Sylvan Avenue Tavern, which opened quietly last week, aims to carry on that vibe, promising a 'true neighborhood tavern experience.' ... The kitchen at SAT is open until 2 a.m. nightly, making it one of the few restaurants in the area to serve late-night eats." - Brittanie Shey

Excellent service! Our server was so friendly, attentive and knew the menu well. We had brunch on a Sunday around noon and sat outside on the gorgeous second floor patio. The breakfast pizza is really good and fresh! A whole carafe of mimosa was only $10! I definitely recommend this cool local joint. We will be back!

It’s a cool little spot in a nice location. Our server was nice but not very friendly. Main reason for taking away stars was the food just frankly wasn’t very good. We got two different wing flavors and they were okay. Also got a basket of 3 sides and we got French fries, fried pickles, and fried ravioli. Fries and ravioli were decent, but don’t bother getting the fried pickles. They were barely breaded and the breading came out soggy too. Also thought prices were fairly high for a spot like this, especially since their other business (Bryan St Tavern) has some great deals. Won’t be in a rush to be coming back here

Google
For a bar/tavern they have a huge selection of food. I didn’t have high expectations for the food but was impressed with the cheesesteak I ordered. It was tasty, meat was very tender, and the fries had some type of Cajun seasoning on them that was really good. Service was great considering it was several tables and only one server. They also have a small balcony that’s covered with a slight view of downtown!

Google
I got the black and blue burger, which has bacon jam sauce. The burger was sweet and savory, had a nice soft sweet brioche bun toasted. Side of fries were also good. Had the toasted raviolis, it was not that good, filling tasted weird. They do have karaoke and an arcade. It’s probably fun for someone who wants to grab drinks and do the activities inside but for me it didn’t really have a wow factor for me to come back again.

Google
A friendly and welcoming neighborhood bar with great staff and next-level pub food. Everything tastes freshly made and the flavors are on point, nothing tastes like it came out of a freezer. The portions are very generous!

Google
I love TEN ramen down stairs from here and always wanted to try this place out and finally did and ended up loving this place as well. I had the Wake And Bake Burger with fries and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. The meat was juicy and flavorful and combined with the other condiments on it like the fried egg, the sauce and the fried jalapenos really made for the perfect recipe! After I ate I enjoyed the free pool tables they have and the pinball machines as well, it was a nice vibe and I'm definitely gonna come try the pizza next time I stop by.

Google
It was an opening worth waiting for! I was so excited when they finally opened. We went for an evening setting, and the view is amazing. Go for a night time dine in, you can see the Dallas skyline. The food was amazing, the staff were very eager to make sure our experience there was top notch. Twin Sister of Bryan Street Tavern, come and join us for a meal and drink. Cheers!

Google
Had a few drinks there both up to my standards it tasted like honey!. The buffalo pizza was great one of the better ones I’ve had. It took a while to get served but once served the bartender did a fantastic job.

We were served the voodoo purple-so good!! Deviled eggs served on a peppery shredded lettuce bed-so good! Also got the cheese steak and onion rings! Summary Local sports bar-outstanding service! Yelp
Came here during the Mac playoffs game so it was quite busy. Lots of places to sit but not as many tables, fortunately one opened up while I was there. The service was quick at first but then slowed down even though it was less busy after the game ended. Staff is nice and accurate when it comes to orders. The Caesar salad is large and delicious. All the food we ordered was good including the fried ravioli, mozzarella bites, and wings. The cosmo wasn't the best I've had but still pretty good for a sports bar

Elisa M.

Yelp
Met a friend here to catch up and I won't lie, the stairs made me rethink how badly did I want to come here (no one told me about the elevator) however I'm glad that I came. We each ordered a pizza that we ate some of and took some home and the fact that it was happy hour only made it better. The pizza came out hot and delicious and the waitress was attentive to us in a way where our needs were met but she wasn't hovering and making us feel like we were being rushed. Unbeknownst to me, they have a pool table, which I will be playing the next time I come back. Laid back spot with some good food and great specials. Worth checking out.

Lara B.

Yelp
This place isn't hidden but for some reason hidden on yelp searches It's on the third floor of sylvan 30 There's stairs or an elevator It's a great little sports bar with pool tables and two patios with nice views of downtown dallas We had the breakfast pizza It was lovely We got carafe mimosas and enjoyed the sunshine I can't remember the bartender's name but he was so nice He came out to our table to check on us even tho he didn't need to It's nice casual ambience and plenty of TVs inside and some out for sports watching Great neighborhood bar

Catrina L.

Yelp
We wanted to have some dinner before hitting up another round. For some reason, I have this spot bookmarked on my google maps, hence, we took the opportunity to see what this place is about. First, the ambiance. It gives you a nice hangout spot vibe.. and it is! It has pool tables and they seem to have a karaoke night going on. We left before it started though. The customer service is superb. They always checked how we were doing and even offered us sample drinks since we couldn't figure out what we wanted. I'm a cider gal so we went with one of the craft ciders they have on tap, it was delish! We ended up with the half veggie delight and half pepperoni. I enjoyed the thin crust because it really allowed the toppings to be the star of the dish. My husband said he preferred his crust to be on the thicker side so it was just okay for him. Nevertheless, I would definitely come back and try some of their apps!

Anna C.

Yelp
I come here with friends all the time! The bartenders are super nice, the food and drinks are cheap fried bar food, and the clientele are sweet. Very easy to park and they're always showing great games. Highly recommend for the next cowboys game.

Jeremy B.

Yelp
Love this place...BUT the Wednesday night bar tender (huge dude with the hat at toothpick in his mouth...which is disgusting) is literally HORRIBLE!! How are you even making money with this guy. He's rude, horrible manners, was late for his shift, talked shit about the management. I could go on...every freaking Wednesday we are stuck with shit service from this dude. Are you that desperate for help that this is what we have to deal with?

Kristie A.

Yelp
This is Bryan Street Tavern's cousin. I was impressed with this space. It is located on the second floor of the building it is in. Huge windows everywhere. I sat at the bar to order a pizza and lo and behold one of my fav bartenders from the Grapevine was behind the bar. Hadn't see Jon in many years. It was good to see him. I ended up having to take my pizza to go so didn't get to stay long, but definitely will be back! The pizza was just as good as BST. I also want to check out the third floor patio.

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Really like this place. It was a much needed missing piece for the neighborhood. All the bar staff is super nice and they always have fernet! It is my new neighborhood haunt. The Caesar salad (I add tomatoes bc yum!) is my go to. The wings smell amazing and are on my need to try list. Go play pool or drink beers on the patio (super peaceful on the patio at night).

Liz G.

Yelp
Love having this new neighborhood joint. Their Panhandle Burger was delicious and the tots were hot and crispy. The fish and cops was tasty, too. I wish their fries weren't so skinny, but that's a me problem. The pizzas that I saw coming out of the kitchen looked amazing and I'll have to walk across the parking lot for one of those soon. Personally, I wish their mask game was existent (Besides one dude in the kitchen, I didn't see one on any other workers), but I'll go pick up to go anytime.

Briar G.

Yelp
Arrived for my pickup order and was greeted and told we can't look in the bag or supply extra sauce because she didn't know how to price it and it was already in there. Sauce was not in bag, even though order called for it and you shouldn't give bbq without it ever, never seen that in my life. Don't run 4 ghost kitchens if you can't do it correctly. No napkins, no sauce, blonde girl in a hat didn't even know i wasn't a doordasher (ordered it for myself through the main DICKEYS website even? So?) and she got angry at me that i opened the bag and started having a fit that i would have to contact doordash and they couldn't fix it. Even if i was a dasher, all you have to do is rebag it so that they could deliver the correct order and get their full tip. 2 thumbs down

Yelp
So good , brought my friend and business partner back the next day to introduce him to the greatness!!! Such a good place to hang out, chill, and get a GREAT meal. The bar vibe is dope!!

Cristian C.

Yelp
Great experience love the bartenders and service. I come here all the time!! Would definitely recommend it

Micka P.

Yelp
To be bar food it was delicious. This place is so good vibes. When I return back to Dallas I will definitely be back.. Service was on point.

AJ W.

Yelp
Jonathan the bartender is the BOMB!!! He takes care of us every time. He is hospitable and such a great time! Go here when you want a great time and atmosphere

Maddy C.

Yelp
We got there just in time for their brunch menu which is on Sat and Sun from 10 am - 2 pm! Super yummy eggs Benedict and my boyfriend loved his burger! The only thing was that it was a tad slow but the bar tender was very nice. Will definitely have to try again for a happy hour.

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Not good. Only thing we had that we enjoyed was the fried cheese. Hummus was grainy and not good. Came out with plastic in it the first time. Service was just ok. Ambiance was typical bar.

Damon G.

Yelp
The wife and I went here for lunch on a Thursday, and we're already planning to go back to watch a Cowboys game or possibly to simply grab a drink. Service was quick and very friendly. Lunch special menu seemed to be an great value. I had a two topping pizza and house salad with excellent dressing (house made). The wife had the Impossible Burger with fries and said it was quite good. I noticed only after eating here that someone said that this is Bryan Street Tavern's cousin. It has been a while since I was last there, but the pizza is quite similar as I remember. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I was headed to one of my favs Ten Ramen, when I saw they opened up Sylvan Avenue above it. The food is exactly the same as their sister pizza pub Bryan street tavern. It would have been good had it been hot. I think they are working on better ways the back of house can communicate with the front of house that food is ready. (this is me being nice, my food should not have been cold) I ordered the mozzarella sticks and The pizza "The Creator". The mozzarella sticks not so good. The pizza (remind you if it was hot) would have been phenomenal. My only advice is be aware that this is brick oven cooked pizza and the crust will be thin. If your fav is pan pizza this may not be your cup of tea. I do like they are on the 2nd level with some views of downtown Dallas. They also have a couple of pool tables and a bountiful selection of tvs playing various sports, which is great for playoffs or when your favorite team plays. Also, if your into setting your own mood they have a jukebox. My bartenders service really made my experience good today and tipped em from a 3 to a 4

Monica B.

Yelp
Great spot for late night or game night outing. The drinks are good and comes in a big glass, not those little plastic cups. We got the fried ravioli and shrimp with ya ya sauce. They were delicious and I'm glad I tried them. The wings are huge. I will be back earlier than late night.

Mark H.

Yelp
I love this waitress! "I come from steak houses and strip clubs..." Great food and entertaining waitstaff. Very colorful language. Come for something different.

Darren N.

Yelp
I came in for drinks. Super cool atmosphere. Waitress was nice. I had the wings to go and The chicken Alfredo on my 2nd visit to-go! The wings were cool. They could've been fried a little longer but they were alright. I had the Parmesan flavored. 7.9 out of 10. The chicken Alfredo was horrible. No taste and was extra thick like it had been sitting up for a while. No flavor shit tasted like they just used heavy cream only. Do not recommend!! And I also had the pizza on another occasion. It was ok if I can remember. I was drunk. I will have to run it back 1 weekend.

Annette L.

Yelp
Food is fair. It is your standard bar food. The appetizers came out really hot and the sandwich was tasty. Aside from the drunk ladies sitting near us, the ambiance is chill and calm at 3 in the afternoon on a Saturday.

frank s.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place a lot. I am a fan of its sibling, the Bryan Street Tavern, but I left thinking that it was overpriced and for mediocre food. The wings are sold "by the pound", but I cook wings for myself a lot, and the eight sections I got for $16+ are not a pound. They were tasty, though, and the best thing we had. We got the SAT pizza: the crust itself was great, but it's pretty veggie heavy and it looked and tasted like the vegetables were thrown on at the end as an afterthought. That is to say they they tasted raw and were not melted into the cheese (which itself was not melted). The pepperoni was barely cooked as well. I expected far more from a $27 pizza, so we just got a box to take it home to fix it ourselves. A plus is that the tonic water was not flat. It may sound simple, but unless you're a vodka tonic devotee like my wife, you might be surprised by how often flat tonic is delivered. The service was attentive and well meaning. Every staff member we came in contact with was unfailingly courteous, so there's that. But let's talk about two things: 1) they don't have menus, just the QR codes/phone menus. They've only been open a few months, so it isn't even as if this is a holdover from the pandemic. If they did have menus, that might have been a good place to tell me that 2) they charge extra for credit cards. But since they didn't, there was no way for me to know that I could have had a cash discount. It isn't necessarily the $3 upcharge, but it was a bad way to end a poor-to-mediocre experience.

Anthony B.

Yelp
Why a 1-star? let me count the reasons: (Main reason, I couldn't give them zero stars.) 1) I went to watch the Stars game with a friend. The two TVs at the end of the bar weren't working. (We could watch The Matrix 2, coming in clearly on the TV working near us... but who'd want to interrupt a 20-year-old movie on TBS for the playoffs?!?!) The solution? The bartender encouraged me to sit at a table (yet-to-be bussed or cleaned) with a view of a TV showing the game. In Dallas. During the WCF. 2) The simple pizza I ordered (Pepperoni and Sausage) came out without sausage. They were clearly understaffed, and it already took forever to get that pizza; sending it back seemed unhelpful - so I didn't make a stink about it. (Side note: all their pizzas come covered in this weird cornmeal-like crust that gets pizza dust everywhere.) Did they charge me extra for the sausage that wasn't on the pizza? Yes. Did any waiter, bartender, server notice the problem and offer to fix it? No. 3) They miscounted our drinks. They charged my buddy and I for at least 5 beers we didn't order (probably 6-8 beers, but giving them some benefit of the doubt), and were never served, didn't drink. When questioned, they simply claimed they were accurate. No double-checking, no common sense (if we drank that much, we'd both be hammered), attempt at proof. Simply a shrug of the shoulders from the bartender. 4) The service sucks. They had a bartender and a waitress for the entire place. The waitress was often playing pool, ignoring the customers. The bartenderess swore at us - often - in a way that I'm sure she thought was playful and endearing, except it was next to tables filled with kids and made us uncomfortable. Also, (see above) they overcharged us, served us the wrong food, and made us sit at a dirty table! Stay away. This place sucks. There are far better places for pizza and beer in every neighborhood in Dallas.

Alyssa R.

Yelp
We didn't know what to expect when coming in after seeing this place a block away from my friends new apartment, but when we checked it out it was AMAZING! Amazing food and drinks and service! This was exactly what I needed after I long work week! Yasmieen took great care of us and made amazing drinks, she had a great personality.

Kelsey M.

Yelp
Food was amazing, atmosphere was cool, our service was awful, our server didn't bring back our refills and ranch at all, we had to track her down to even get the check, I have never tipped so little, but I wanted to make sure she got min. Wage for min. Service. She missed out on a great tip that required very little. Had better service at whataburger.

Chelsea R.

Yelp
My fiancé and I were so, so excited for this place to open. There are so many great restaurants in the complex and we were ready to have a new go-to pizza place. Sadly, the service was slow to arrive, deliver, and refill (plus all courses showed up at the same time, an hour after ordering, and cold). The food was underwhelming (pizza was under baked, had no flavor, and the texture was like that of a frozen pizza - you'll find better at any other restaurant in Dallas, and we've tried a lot) and expensive. We have never been to its sister restaurant, Bryan St Tavern, and now never plan to. We like to try every restaurant in our area but have never been as disappointed with one as this. Save yourself the money and the stomach space and go to any of the other great spots in the area that serve something you'll actually enjoy. Edit: this was 2 stars in my original review, but after the owner reached out with a personal attack to my one on Google, down it goes.

Marcus J.

Yelp
After reading some of the owner's responses to others on Google, I'll get right to the point since that's what he wants - my app trio came out cold and after the mains, the pizza was only alright, and the only worthwhile thing we ate was the semi-warm wake and bake burger with cold fries. I was truly willing to give the pizza a second chance, but honestly it was overpriced and I can get better at Eno's or Cibo Divino for less $$$. On top of that, the service was painfully slow and inattentive. I'm not sure if it's because there was only one waitress or what, but getting drinks or refills was not fun. It's a shame because I was legitimately excited to have this place nearby. And after seeing the dude's aggressive responses to anyone not singing the praises of SAT or BST though, I'm definitely not coming back. Honestly not much of a loss for only semi-OK food and a bad experience not worth the check.

Krista N.

Yelp
The service was awful. We sat there for 20 min before some server came over to tell us that a server would be with us and she's sorry it's taking so long. Sat there another 15 min with no service. Multiple people were getting up to leave. Others were going to the bar trying to get the bartenders help. There was 2 servers in the entire place. Do not come here.

Aidan G.

Yelp
Arrived here with a group of friends for a nice midafternoon outing and there was one person working. We went to the bar to order beverages and the employee told us "go sit down" in a passive aggressive tone. We were just trying to do him a favor so he didn't have to come over to us while he was working the bar. After we sat down, he came over and had a rude demeanor towards everyone and it did not settle well with the party of 15 we had. We understand running an establishment by yourself can be stressful, BUT you do not treat your customers this way in any manner. Definitely don't recommend a place like this when you feel like you're walking on eggshells. Sad.....

Candy S.

Yelp
I wrote a review over a year ago of what a great place this restaurant was to come to. Recently their manager left and the service has gone downhill. I came in today on a slow rainy Monday and they had one person running the bar and being the server for the entire place. John did an amazing job to kept everyone happy and try to wait on everyone, but he needed more help. What really bothered me is that the two owners were here and drinking not willing to help out at all. I get times are hard to find consistent staff and with the rain people could have called in. Its terrible to see the owners drinking instead of helping out in their own establishment.

Nesel E.

Yelp
Went Sunday night and was kindly met by welcomes by staff and bartender. Bartender told us to sit where we liked. There were five of us in town for a work event and wanted to end our work trip here in Texas with a drink at your bar. Server came up to us and immediately expressed that she would be leaving soon so if we were going to order food it would be with her, if not order from the bar. After stating that we told her we needed a sec to look at the drinks. She came back and my colleague asked if she could recommend a stout beer, she immediately snapped back with attitude and said "there are lots of beer, if yooou want a beer than yooou should open up that menu by yourself and look because I've only been working here two weeks and I'm not going to do that for you." I understand being tired, ( the understanding is in that we have all been working 13 hour days, away from our families for that last 5 days), I also understand not knowing or being able to recommend, you could say "bartender would know that better, I can ask", but to just snap on a customer when they were just looking for a recommendation is so disrespectful. She spent the remainder of her shift scoffing, slamming dishes, and making us feel uncomfortable the rest of our quick 30 min there. Could even hear staff comforting her and asking what was wrong because she was, I guess, upset that a table showed up? Super disappointing. Luckily your bartender was amazing, super chill, and very knowledgeable and was able to recommend great drinks, if it wasn't for that server, it would have been a better rating. Note to the server: girl, leave that at home. We all work, we're all tired, negativity makes the food go bad.

ShaDaria A.

Yelp
Ordered my food at 10pm. Estimated time for my order to be ready was 10:18. I didn't get there til 10:25 on purpose. Bartender Alexis didn't come back to the bar until 10:28 checked on my order and at 10:30 said it would be done in 2 or 3 minutes. I ask what the hold up is, she doesn't know it'll just be ready in 2-3 mins. Keep in mind the restaurant is near empty. I didn't get my food until 10:40. What's the point in ordering ahead if I'm still going to wait almost an hour ? The bread they gave me with my pasta was stale too.

CD L.

Yelp
I literally just called about a Bogo deal I received about a Pizza b/c I wanted to check this place out. it's close by my home. Shaun answered the phone and was very rude after our hello how are you doing. I just asked a simple question and wanted clarification. Asked him a question just to get more specifics gave me no detail and said that's all I'm going to say about this in the rudest tone. I asked him how his day was before we started the conversation don't think I deserved to be talked to like that .

Laura O.

Yelp
Great vibe, better pizza & amazing pasta! Service seemed a lil rushed even though it was not busy.

Tara M.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I just moved into this area, and stopped in for lunch to check it out. They just opened a couple months ago, and we were pleasantly surprised! Great service, laid back atmosphere, and a home-y feel. They have some pools tables, games, and plenty of TVs for sports. The food was good (got the mozz sticks, pasta, and a burger). The best service I've seen in Dallas, and we've been here for about 3 years. Nick gave us good recs for the area, things to do, and was just overall sold us on the place. It's definitely the kind of place that people would care to remember your name. We will definitely be back!

Brandon O.

Yelp
This is a great spot to go on a date, go with the guys or go with the family. Whatever vibe you like, rooftop or inside dining, they have it. Scratch kitchen so all of the sauces and foods are made from scratch. Being from Chicago I know good pizza and SAT has it! Drinks are good. Bathrooms and the entire space is always CLEAN! Can't go wrong here. Best in the area hands down.

Tommy D.

Yelp
i absolutely love this place, before I go to deep ellum i almost always try to stop by this tavern to get a drink or seven. I've always been served by Nick on Saturday nights. I would recommend to any other patrons that are in this area to try to go this bat whenever he is here. The ambiance is absolutely perfect for a relaxing drink in an area that is nice but not overstimulating. All of the staff are absolutely exceptional whenever i come here. I really feel valued as a customer here. 100 percent get the Lee Hazy IPA or if you are a gin fan, have him make his special Blackberry Gin Smash.

X101soldier Q.

Yelp
It had been a few months since I had visited this place. I was a bit disappointed simce I went on a Sunday afternoon and they had one server for the entire restaurant. The appetizers were over cooked/burnt, so not sure how they could have let that leave the kitchen. The place looked dirty compared to my previous visits. For the price of the food, one would expect a cleaner place and better quality food. Might give it another shot in the future, but hope they improve before I do so. Kudos to the one waitres. Even though she was overwhelmed and over worked, she kept a smile on her face.

Leandro R.

Yelp
This was my first time coming to this bar and I ordered the Chicken Finger basket. My friends and I got here at 1:20 when the bar closed at 2. We ordered some drinks and I ordered some food. We were here not even past 2:06 when I asked for some ketchup for my chicken fingers and the bartender (bald man with beard) sarcastically said, "What are you doing with all that ketchup?" Which I replied "I'm eating it, it was good." He then proceeded to complain about being there since 10AM and he wanted to go home. I work in the bartending industry so I understand his frustration but in no way would I ever be in the position to complain to a customer or make them feel like an inconvenience. Please train your workers on how to talk to customers. Never coming back again.

Robert B.

Yelp
I tried dining at this Tavern tonight. Service was slow, I waited 10 minutes before being acknowledged. After the bartender initially came over he got distracted and left before taking my order. I waited patiently while he continued to service at the bar. 10 minutes later he waved me to come over to the bar to place my order. I was sitting at a table in the dining room. He then yelled from the bar,"What are you having". I gave my order. I waited another ten minutes to find out the bartender never placed my order. I get people are understaffed, but some grace and kindness go along way. I left before eating and went downstairs to this great Ramen place called Ten Ramen....great service and no hassle!

Jimmy E.

Yelp
Food was fast and delicious. The staff was friendly and the food was ready when we picked it up. Plan on going back and eating inside the establishment.

Hd T.

Yelp
Awesome place to chill with the homies lots good bar foods lots of diffrent type of beers and cocktails .

Alejandra M.

Yelp
Im leaving two stars because it's edible. It tasted like a frozen pizza, the wings were dry, tasted like old chicken. Def not worth the money. I would've rather had air. It was not what I expected.

Melissa K.

Yelp
Way exceeded my expectations. Food was creative and great with options for everyone, golden T, pinball, live music and sunday drag queen bingo.

John B.

Yelp
Good pizza. Extensive menu and reasonable prices. And although it's on the second floor there is an elevator if you'd rather not take the stairs.

Ryan W.

Yelp
Great pizza. Best bartender. Amazing views on the rooftop. Hands down the best establishment ever.

Honestly thought it would be just any other pizza joint with a bar but boy was I wrong. With the pool, golf and arcade games and amazing view it definitely is worth the it. The Lou was so good. Service was A1 gonna be back here pretty soon
