The meals are not only full of sustenance, but also it leaves a coat of Caribbean flavor along your taste buds. Every customer that leaves will leave a little heavier, due to their great portions. Their oxtail and rice are always cooked to perfection, and everything is given that small homemade touch that makes you feel like you are at a small piece of Jamaica, right in our neighborhood.

Food is horrible. I dont get the reviews. Fried Chicken has no flavor was undercooked. Rice was bland. This is not Jamaican food or even just good food. Waste of $15 dollar. Had to throw the whole plate of food in the garbage. Have tried them twice now. Other time was the oxtail that taste like it look. BLAND. Big mistake both time. Waste of time and money. They taste worse then hospital food. These positive reviews must be fake because how?

Oxtails, rice and peas, cabbage and meat pie. All authentic and I enjoyed it all. The only thing I shared off this meal is the picture. You know it's good when they care enough to deliver the same quality they serve in the restaurant.

Wish they had a veg option like curry tofu or something else. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Their juices are very popular, sold out on all of them when I popped in.

This is my go-to for lunch. My first option. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. They have all of your traditional Jamaican dishes, and all of them are very tasty. I'm biased because I love their fried ckicken! It has just the right amount of spice and a little kick of pepper. Mama Sylvia and her daughter and staff are very friendly. You can eat in or grab a to go order. Either way, you'll be satisfied 😌 💯 👌 😉

I love Jamaican good. There are a few spots here in Poughkeepsie NY. Sylvia's is one of the best Jamaican restaurants in NY. I ordered oxtails, rice and peas, cabbage today with a beef patty nd cheese on cocoa bread. There cocoa bread and patties are so fresh they never disappoint. There oxtails... fall off the bone literally, always fresh and delicious. There customer service and atmosphere always welcoming, great place to visit if you are in the area.

NICEST PEOPLE HERE! Fantastic food. Every time I have visited, the customers and the staff are always incredibly sweet - one person even went out of her way to check for me if they had beef patties left! The beef patties are amazing, the mixed veggies and cabbage were seasoned so well. Fried plantains were good, and the oxtail was delicious! They usually have limited stocks of food, which is okay even if I miss out on some food because then you know it's fresh. If you want all the good stuff (like the dumplings usually sell out quick), come here exactly at or their posted breakfast and lunch times!

They really spend time and effort preparing their dishes. Very tastee.My only stipulation is just fall back on the hot pepper 🌶 a bit overboard with the spice. It's a B for effort 👌

Wholeheartedly do I recommend Sylvia's. My favorite is the plantains (I know it's a side dish) always perfect. The servings are generous, the jerk chicken is perfectly seasoned and always fall off the bone tender. And the folks working the restaurant are welcoming, and professional.

Love this place. Been going here for years. But today experience definitely just made me rethink this place based off the service I walked out on today. I came on to order and literally was skipped over twice in line. Customer service goes a long way also will change the outlook of an establishment. I personally will not come back to this establishment again. Very disappointed because the customer service was always on point. Today definitely impacted my business with this establishment.

Feels like I've been invited to my Jamaican friend's family home for dinner. The hospitality and pleasantness jump out at me. The food speaks for itself! The portions are plentiful, ordering a large will definitely get you lunch, then dinner for that night. The food order is ready 15 minutes for takeout. All the food is already in heated trays ready to go. Really enjoyed the food. Good: -Oxtail -Curry Chicken -Beef -Jerk Chicken -Plantains -Cabbage -Rice & Beans -Sea Moss -Peanut Punch! Bad: -None

The food is amazing!! It's everything I'd hoped for! The dishes are offered in small, medium and large. We ordered a medium jerk chicken and a medium stew beef. Each dish comes with two sides and the medium is served in a metal, circular tin. I always love when I go to spots like this that offer multiple sizes. I usually pick a size up from what I know I'll finish so I have leftovers for the next day. I could tell this was going to be good just by looking at it. The tin was FULL and the meat was coated in delicious sauces and seasoning. From the moment that I put a piece of stew beef in my mouth, I knew that this place would be a staple moving forward. The meat was SOO tender and juicy. It just fell apart in my mouth. It wasn't chewy or dry at all. I chose rice and peas with fried plantains as my sides and they were just as good. There was definitely food left over for the next day and the reviews raving about the food are absolutely TRUE! This place is amazing and there are so many options. I don't usually get my hands on these dishes too often and when I do, they're not always enjoyable. It was so nice to find a legit Jamaican spot, serving up food that's made the way it should be.

Best Jamaican restaurant in Dutchess County!!! The food is authentic and delicious! The staff is kind and helpful. I've witnessed them handle difficult customers with class and grace. Also, Andrea is WONDERFUL!!! Can't say enough good things about Sylvia's restaurant.

I used Grubhub to deliver my food. The oxtail large portion is so big and I split into 2 meals. Fried plantains are $2 for few pieces. Overall the food is decent and the price is cheap

If you want to go to a good Jamaican spot in the Hudson Valley, this is it. Here's the quick run down: 1. EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS. I loved the jerk chicken and curry goat. 2. The portions are so worth the price (and everything is priced well). The medium size can feed you for multiple meals. 3. There is a huge selection of other Jamaican drinks and sodas that make you feel like you're on the island. 4. There are beef patties too... you basically have your choice of whatever food you're craving. If you're in Poughkeepsie (or driving through), and need to find a food place to grab a meal, Sylvia's is where you should.

Wonderful hospitality and delicious food! My favorites were the oxtail and coconut shrimp! The jerk chicken was also bursting with flavor with a little kick. Check this spot out.

Sylvia is great. I wouldn't necessarily call it a sit down spot but you do you have the option of sitting there and eating and the staff are very nice. I had the jerk chicken because they didn't have the pork ready yet. I also had some plantains and some greens and rice. The food was extremely good and the portions were very sizable for the amount of money that you were paying. I got the medium for lunch and it came out as a large dinner portion in my opinion and it was only $10- $12

Grabbed food here in the late afternoon. The prices are pretty fair here especially for the amount of food you get. We ordered oxtail, jerk chicken, fried chicken, patties. We got rice and beans with sides of mixed veggies and steamed cabbage. The oxtail was okay probably the only decent item. The jerk chicken and fried chickens were pretty dry and definitely we didnt eat more than a couple of bites. I suspect that the patties were not fresh or made at the place, feels like store bought. The mixed veggies were very likely from frozen. The cabbage and rice were good.

I came to this restaurant recently to get a somewhat home cooked meal. The woman who served me my food and rung me up was very helpful and friendly. I asked her a series of questions which she answered for me. I am finally happy to know the soup menu: Tuesday: Red Pea soup Wednesday: Beef soup Thursday: Chicken soup Friday: Mannish Water (Goat Head Soup) Saturday: Red Pea Soup I ordered Curry Goat with Rice & Peas and a side of cabbage. I forgot to ask for the fried plantain. The rice was really soft. But, the curry goat was tender and flavorful. I just wish the food was a little bit spicy. I paid $9 plus tax for my meal. Which is not a bad price I believe I ordered the small. I would definitely return to try other items on the menu.

Boy if you want Jamaican food, YOU HAVE TO GO HERE!!!! It's always fresh, it always tastes great and you get a tremendous amount! My go to dish here is the oxtail with rice and peas and you can't forget about the extra sauce for the rice! The corn bread is literally just the cherry on top cause it's perfect every single time. If you haven't been here, go as soon as possible because you'll definitely be back!

Sylvia serves the best Jamaican food in Poughkeepsie, with friendly and fast service to match. I visited on a weekday and was impressed with the reasonable prices for authentic Jamaican eats complemented with outstanding service. I placed my order for Oxtails at the counter and asked for sides of cabbage and plantains, unfortunately they were running low on plantains and instead of telling me to pick something else, offered to straighten out the kitchen which I appreciated. Unlike most visitors, I was dining in, which the staff gladly accommodated although it seemed to be the exception. Within a few minutes, my huge plate of oxtails, cabbage, and plantains arrived at my table with silverware and hot sauce. The oxtails were braised to a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, falling off the bone into the savory sauce and tangy cabbage. I saved the plantains for the last couple of bites and was not disappointed by the crispy and sweet bites to finish off a great meal. All for less than $20.

Black owned business in PK. The customer service was good and so was the food. I smelled it the closer I got to the entrance door. I ordered the oxtails which were tender just the way I like them. The stewed snapper looked good too but it wasn't filleted. My go to for Jamaican food in the Hudson Valley area.

So good! I have not had Jamaican food too often but I thoroughly enjoyed this place. Family restaurant with good home cooked food! I had the curry chicken with rice and plantains and my husband had curry goat. Both were delish.service was fast. I have no complaints.

This place certainly has authentic Jamaican food for sure. At the recommendation of a friend wife & I stopped in for dinner and the main courses were pretty darn good (i.e. ox tails & rice with peas). Beef patties were ok, however I suspect those bad boys were "real" Jamaican beef patties but I am conditioned to those Tower brands from the supermarket so I could be clueless to an authentic beef patty (meat was not as thick as other processed patties). For a small store front I expected a small cramped spot but it was very spacious, decor was decent and tables very cozy and neat. Overall this is a really neat place to stop in for an informal dinner.

This spot had really good jamician food thats worth the price. Coming from the city I was more than excited to get an entire full meal that was big enough to last for 2 meals for $12.00. The jerk chicken, peas and rice, cabbage was really good. It was easy to take home with me back to the city since it was packed in foil containers. I would def go back if I ever go back to the area.

We travelled an hour to sample her food. We were not disappointed. Having traveled to Jamaica and having friends and family who are Jamaican, I can honestly say Sylvia's cuisine is on point. We had the jerk pork, jerk chicken, ox tail, curry goat, mac and cheese and beef patties. All were excellent. Her little storefront is family run and operated with friendly and attentive customer service. It is popular, and you may encounter a line. But the wait is worth it. Yah mon, irie!

One of the best Jamaican food stops in the Hudson Valley. We've been coming here as a family for over a decade and every time has been absolutely great. Everything on the menu is excellent and filling. The portions are true hearty Caribbean portions that will carry you through the day. The staff is super friendly and willing to help you through the menu if your new to Caribbean food. If you've been raised on Caribbean food like myself, you'll be happy to know they have a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Catering is also a big part of this establishment. Last year around this time I bought a catering tray of Jamaican stewed chicken for a party I was throwing. The price was very reasonable and the food was amazing. Let's just say my guests enjoyed it so much I was only left with a leg and gravy after greeting people at the door lol.

I had the jerk chicken and the curry goat from here. Beans, rice, and sweet plantains on the side. Food: the jerk chicken is great. Chicken was juicy. I didn't sip water until I finished most of the meal. It was well seasoned and you got the nice smoke color. It looks and tastes well crafted. The curry goat was good to me but it was also my first time having it. The beans and rice are really subpar for me. Hardly any beans and the rice tasted pretty dry. The sweet plantains were very good and what you would come to expect if you've had you fair share of them. Service: I placed a phone order. Now, sometimes phone orders get contentious when it's hard to understand each other. That was not the case with this place. The lady that serviced me was so kind. She even remembered my voice and the service was prompt. Minimal wait even with 5 customers in front of me. Overall: I would come again. The portions are huge. I recommend ordering ahead, the jerk chicken, and that you try it out.

I came to this restaurant just by chance when I came to see my grandson. I haven't had Jamaican food in a minute so I got some takeout (COVID 19) Curry Chicken, Brown Stewed Chicken and Oxtails. The woman who served me my food and rung me up was very helpful and friendly. I could't wait to get home. The Oxtail were outrageously good and portions were amazing for the price. The Curry Chicken and Brown Stewed Chicken were also very very good. Great food and friendly I will definitely be back!!

My husband and I had wonderful meals here. We ordered a stew chicken/white rice/cabbage and goat curry/rice and peas/cabbage. The portions were large and full of flavor that reminded me of home cooked food. Both meats were juicy and fell off the bone. The rice and peas was soft and cooked just the way I like. We also took a chicken patty and beef patty to go which were equally delicious. The restaurant was clean, and the service was warm and friendly. I can't wait to visit here again.

Stopped in for some Carribean food for the first time. Super friendly lady, Andrea, behind the counter explained what was available, and the portion sizes/prices. We opted to eat in, had jerk chicken, red snapper, rice and peas and a tasty spiced cabbage side. The portion sizes were huge, food was fresh and so delicious! We asked about plantains and she told us they are available certain days when they are ripe. She told us she had some in back, but they weren't quite ripe. Half way through our meal, she brought out a plate of plantains, whipped up fresh just for us and warned us they weren't 100% ripe, but they were still tasty and she never charged us for them! Great food, friendly family run and they have take out too. Will definitely be back!

Drove up to Sylvia's from Westchester because we wanted the best Jamaican food in the area and this is what popped up. We were rewarded big time. Friendly staff in this neighborhood restaurant, they graciously guided our 9 YO kiddo to some dishes that she really enjoyed! Excellent food that we would definitely go back for - jerk chicken, curried goat, & Jamaican sodas.

Food here is okay. The portion sizes are great, I had a small and it was very fulfilling. The stew chicken was delicious. Rice and beans could've been way better, it was a bit bland. I'll give this place another shot

Called to place an order here a couple of days ago and they barely had anything. No plantains, no sweet potatoes, no yams....it was disappointing because they barely offer a selection of sides as it is. In addition, the lady who answered the phone was RUDE. She told us to hurry up placing our order over the phone with her because she had another call. After placing our order we were so appalled we decided to call back, cancel our order, and take or business elsewhere. If you're craving Jamaican food don't go here. Instead, go to Montego Bay Restaurant. Their food is roughly the same prices, better quality, and the employees are welcoming and friendly.

Five stars especially since the US doller is double in Jamacia. Eating lobster and fish daily at Sylvias was assume. The food is seasoned well and every dish I would do over and over again. See next time Sylvia

The rice was super dry and crunchy to the point that I did not eat it. The pork was burnt past my liking. And sorry curry goat for $10 No way I trust that meat.

I just found out on Saturdays they have baked Mac and cheese !!!! I'm so excited I'm on my way there now! Jerk chicken rice n peas cabbage maybe a beef patty too. Everything is so good i eat here a couple times a week. I'd be lost if they ever closed down because nobody makes Jamaican food like Sylvia's !!!!! The best of the best

It was a surprise found when we visited Walkway on the Hudson. This little Jamaican Restaurant has some really decent food. Oxtail was tender, right off the bone . Curry Goats and Jerk chicken were phenomenal.

I just bought saltfish and callaloo from Sylvia's. My sides and callaloo was seasoned well and tasty. However, my issue is the callaloo and "saltfish" was lacking saltfish. I brought it to the cashier's (possibly Sylvia) attention. She said they are both mixed in together and maybe the earlier customers probably got the top of the pot. So my understanding is if you are not the first few customers you will be shorted. I was hoping to support my fellow Caribbean people's. Never again. See pic below with the "saltfish circled".

I love the food here but the past 3 times I have tried to go, they have been closed. Why does the restaurant keep changing hours? There's a piece of paper on the door but on busy Main Street who has time to stop and read that? Can you change the hours on the website then?

We went to Sylvias because we heard so much about them. I've got to say that the meat was delicious. My husband ordered the beef stew and I ordered the oxtails. The meat was nicely seasoned and cooked to tender perfection. The downside to the visit was the lack of available sides. I wanted plantains and cabbage, but they didn't have plantains. My husband wanted plantains, and when they weren't available, he wanted yams. Unfortunately, no yams either so we settled for rice and peas, steamed cabbage and he had mac and cheese. While we loved the meat, we weren't impressed with the sides. The folks there were warm and friendly and served us well. However, I've got to say I was disappointed at not being able to have the meal that I truly wanted.

Out in the area for work and I always search for hidden gems. This is a diamond!!! The people in line to order, the staff all are friendly and kind, but the food, now that's just puts this place over the top!! I loved the Ox tail!! Everything smelled wonderful and looked even better. I would make sure if you are in the area you don't miss out on this place.. I will absolutely be back again for another visit.

If you find yourself in Poughkeepsie, this is a must stop. The friendliest people you will ever meet and lunch was to die for. The jerk chicken melts in your mouth and rice and beans were perfect. Just the right amount of spice and flavor all around. I had such a good experience, I talked about it all day.

This spot is pretty official, can't complain at all. I have been eating there since college days, back in 2006 and the food has been consistently good.

What a find! I love these types of "hole in the wall" local places, and this is top notch in that category! Right off the beaten path, this place offers great smiling service, amazing jerk meats, and affordable full meals. I will be back many times!

The ultimate family run Jamaican spot. The breakfast menu is killer and open super early! Lunch/Dinner menu is very authentic and you can mix and match whatever you like. Family run and very popular. You can easily find out why.

My coworker told me about this restaurant, and of course I chose to go there rather than the pizza shop. No lie, the food was delicious; tasty. If you are ever in Poughkeepsie you need to stop at this restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

The curried goat was very flavorful and the medium lunch was a big portion. The people are friendly and helpful. The traffic of customers was steady. The food we had was great and we'll definitely be back to try their oxtail!
