I went to the Symphony Hall on November 19th, 2010 to see the band Barenaked Ladies.
It's a pretty good venue. I don't typically take a huge liking to theater-style venues, but this isn't too bad.
It's definitely one of the smaller venues I've been to. It can probably hold about 2,500 to 3,000 people, or somewhere around there.
It is a very old building, and that definitely shows in the design, but you can tell that they keep it in good condition. I don't like theater venues that have over-the-top designs, and are too fancy for their own good. This venue isn't like that. It has a fairly-fancy design, but it does remain basic enough for my liking.
Getting in and out of the venue can be a bit crammed due to all the people, but once I was in my seat I had a comfortable amount of room.
The acoustics here are also pretty good. I have read reviews where people claim it has the "best acoustics" and "perfect acoustics". I do disagree here. There is a bit of an echo in the venue, and from what I've heard, the sound can be a little choppy if your seats are front and center. But the sound quality was good, and once BNL got rocking I didn't even notice any problems.
Although it isn't my favorite venue, it wasn't bad, and I would go back again.
