Where to Find Barista Competition-Worthy Signature Coffee Drinks Around Los Angeles - Eater LA

"Alex Novack and Erin Ritter run Syndicate in Sierra Madre. This stylish bakery-cafe features an abstract mural depicting the nearby San Gabriel Foothills and one of LA’s most ambitious signature drink rosters. Ask about the evergreen Bolt or winter-specific Frostbite Mocha. If you’re feeling adventurous, opt for the Mood Ring, the barista’s choice, named for a Relient K song. When I arrived on a crisp fall day, Barista Elias Lucero asked, “Do you prefer hot? Iced? Dairy? Non-dairy?” My hot, dairy requests resulted in a warming maple, cinnamon and orange bitters latte. “Sometimes I like to do an Almond Joy, which is chocolate ganache, coconut cream and almond milk.” Lucero says, “If it’s hot out, sometimes I’ll do maple with orange bitters and espresso tonic.” Syndicate’s motto challenges baristas and customers: “Dare to be brilliant.”" - Joshua Lurie

Google
Syndicate does it all! Coffee is great (I get the Bolt). The pastries are soooo darn good, I’ve tried to find something I don’t like and it hasn’t happened yet. Also, the food is some of the best in town! Always fun and unique options for you throughout your day…do it… go to Syndicate

Home run! Best pastries in SoCal. Made in the bakery here. Alex the owner is super cool and is a great manager and leader. His staff loves him and it shows. Thomas M Brady

TASTY food, delicious coffee, great atmosphere, and good chairs for sitting for a long time while catching up with a friend!! The paint job is changed again (I originally came for the retro look but it’s still nice with the stars). Chorizo Burrito- AMAZING and highly recommend with its dazzling flavors and matching hot sauce Coconut Coffee- SO good and unique! Caramel Coffee- also very tasty!! Smore Crownie (cookie/brownie)- SOOO good!!! The employees are friendly as well and this was such a great coffee shop! Music not too loud and the view through the window is nice of the little shops nearby. Definitely coming back!

Google
Stopped in for the first time this morning. I ordered The Oslo breakfast sandwich on sourdough (rather than the everything bagel ) and I must say that it was amazing! The flavors, the textures. All the ingredients are fresh. There is so much detail in this sandwich. I happened to be in the area for work but I would drive across town for this sandwich! Staff was very friendly.

Google
A quaint little coffee shop packed with personality. There's a little couch in the corner to sit on while you wait for your order. Emily was especially nice as the took our order. Very high quality coffee from Unity coffee, an ethically sourced roasting company. It's near my house so it's a great choice for an early morning fix. ^_^ Edit: They got a new menu fixture!

Google
(this portion is for during Pandemic) indoor only allows 3 party at a time, outdoor seating all has dividers, overall a safe environment to stay. Indoor is pretty spacious, probably due to not having any seating available but I can see it being relatively the same when available. I was immediately greeted by the barista. The barista explained the specialty drinks are all using syrup made by themselves, so I ordered the vanilla flavored latte "Plain Jane". Wait time was average, they do take time on making the drinks and I really appreciate that. Plain Jane is a smooth, sweeten but not overly sweet drink, and you can really taste the difference in vanilla syrup. Overall an extremely good experience.

Google
Great little bakery in Sierra Madre with amazing tasting coffee and baked goods. I visited on a Saturday morning around 10:30 and it was already packed. From what I gather, the bakery is still in it's soft opening phase so the menu options are limited. When you first enter, you'll notice the bakery is brightly lit by all the windows facing the street. All of that natural light illuminates the interior, which is painted yellow. The bar is also busy with baristas and bakers making everything for customers to enjoy. I tried their latte with oat milk that's sweetened by their house made honey syrup. It was delicious to say the least and the latte art was beautifully executed. I also had their chocolate brownie that looked amazing but my taste buds thought it was too sweet for my taste; not necessarily applicable for everyone. I'd definitely come back and do work here once they get more tables because they only have one at the moment. I also hope they have WiFi in the future.

Google
the nitro cold brew was delicious as i wish they had a larger size! we got assistance with some questions from the nice young lady at the register who helped us decide what to ultimately settle on eating and drinking. i'll be sure to go for a 'mood ring' next time! the area surrounding this shop is really nice too.

Yelp
After months and months of wanting to try Syndicate, I finally got to stop by yesterday morning. It's a fairly busy place and there's not a whole lot of indoor seating since it's a smaller place, so be mindful of that. Lots of street parking available but it may be hard to find a spot- downtown Sierra Madre seems like a pretty popular area. The baristas are friendly, I do wish they would've asked me if I wanted my items to stay as I didn't realize that was an option until afterwards; I would've preferred to be less wasteful if I could! Not a big issue though. They also need to update their menus as both of the lattes I asked about weren't available anymore. I ended up ordering a hot white chocolate peppermint latte and a caramel apple morning bun. The latte was really smooth and not too sweet, which I love because I don't like overly sweet coffee & when it comes to peppermint mochas, I find that I'm often turning away because the peppermint is too in my face. This latte was perfectly balanced flavor-wise and I really enjoyed it. I love the little detail of the pink lids as well. The morning bun was to die for. I don't have many notes on that one except that I think everyone should try it at least once. I really loved it. I stayed for an hour or so to read and the little chairs they have inside are super comfortable (I have a back disability, so that's incredibly important for me) and they have little side tables for your coffee or bag, etc. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by Syndicate and I will be planning my next stop soon.

Yelp
Espresso service is back on point, punchy and smooth. On occasion goes through bitter/burnt after taste phases, but probably operator dependent. Baristas are doing overall well under pressure during rush hours. Occasional semi negligible glitches here and there i.e., , "We can't always let you pour your own milk when it's busy..." vs "Sure you can." Sure you can is fair. It takes an extra 30 seconds (tops) and I can pour it from a separate cup (not your milk jug, I get health/code compliance). Finding a balance between needing to be in control vs being totally chill and going with the flow is where the service sweet spot is. Be chill. Cheers.

Yelp
Tucked away in a quaint little corner of downtown Sierra Madre, Syndicate Coffee is as charming as it gets. The area itself is already adorable, and this café fits right in with its cozy aesthetic. I decided to go bold and ordered the Mood Ring Latte; where the barista gets to pick the flavor. Risky for me since I'm pretty particular, but I'm so glad I did! She created a chocolate walnut latte for me, and it was perfect ..subtle flavors & smooth espresso. Truly so well done. Their food selection is just as impressive. They've got a solid brunch menu and pastries, and I was thrilled to see savory scones (a rarity!). The cheddar jalapeño scone I tried was absolutely delicious..flaky, flavorful, and such a good balance. Service was warm and friendly, and I loved the seating options: cozy spots inside by the window plus a few sidewalk tables if you want to soak in the downtown atmosphere. Overall, a gem of a coffee shop with great drinks, tasty bites, and a setting that's equal parts cute and inviting. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
This coffee shop has been on my radar for a while now after reading my fellow Yelp Elite "peeps" reviews. So, when I had the opportunity to meet a friend for coffee last minute, I picked this place. It was packed on a Saturday morning but the line moved pretty quickly. The girl who assisted me was very nice and helpful. I ordered a Nitro Cold Brew with Blackberry flavoring or so I thought. Never again...it was puree with no sweetness. It added a tart flavor to my coffee which anyone who knows me, knows it's not a good fit for my morning coffee...LOL! I also ordered a Ham & Cheese Croissant which was delicious. My friend ordered the poppy seed cake which was also good. Yes, we shared:) We were able to grab a table out front and sat next to a lovely couple. It was a really nice hang. My only gripe and it's kind of a BIG ONE...NO RESTROOM FOR CUSTOMERS!!! WTH! You serve food and drink..is that not illegal in CA? Just Saying... *2 Hour Free Street Parking

Yelp
Vibes! This spot hits everything that I wanted it to. The music, the food, the coffees, the pastries. The baristas were lovely and everyone there seems to be enjoying working and giving together. I couldn't believe what a pleasant experience this was. The betta living his best life among aquatic plants, the numerous plants placed about the cafe. This place is playing killer music and serving up killer coffee too. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Highly recommend the Da Vinny hot sandwich (chicken and sun dried tomatoes). They had lots of food and pastry choices. There was inside and outside seating.
google avatar

Caes F.

Yelp
Syndicate Pastries are delicious and savory treats. Picked up a Ham & Cheese Croissant and a Morning Bun. Celebrating turning 21 years old. All jokes aside, the cashier was super friendly, but the crowds are no joke. The parent and their children keep this local hometown coffee shop lively and entertaining. From children running amok, it's never a dull moment at the Syndicate!

Yelp
My favorite coffee place if you are in the area! They know how to prepare coffees! Small menu, but every item we tried from breakfast burritos to muffins and baked goods, was divine - yummy. I go there every time I am in Sierra Madre - I just have to! Super friendly staff. Perfect place to lounge, read and catch up too - love the vibe there. Lots of locals. Note when I was there, no bathroom facilities though, had to go to another venue for that!

Yelp
I first discovered this incredible small, woman-owned bakery years ago, and their croissants have been on my mind ever since. Although I no longer live in the area, a serious craving today was enough to convince me to make the drive back to Sierra Madre. The line was a testament to how popular and delicious this place still is, but it was absolutely worth the wait. I ordered an almond croissant and a warmed ham and cheese croissant. Let me just say, this bakery makes the best croissants, hands down. The flakiness is unlike any other I've had--each bite is a perfect, buttery crunch. The bakery itself is quaint and charming, with a few seats inside and more seating outside where you can enjoy their wonderful croissants, pastries, and coffee. If you're looking for the perfect pastry, you won't be disappointed by this place!

Yelp
Cool little spot in Sierra Madre, partial bakery, brewery and eatery. The staff was friendly, the wait was not too long. They had a simple menu but with variety. We tried the matcha, chocolate cookie, Roonie Bagel and the Bodega Breakfast sandwich. All the food was tasty specially the bagel, only downside was that the bagel or bodega bun were soggy and not toasty. The bodega was a little on the light flavor side, needed more aioli or chipotle. The cookie was great too but cold and was not given option to be warmed. The biggest let down was the matcha, it tasted just like milk. Asked for more matcha after tasting but did not improve flavor. Either quality of matcha or ratio to milk was off. Great first impression and would try more things again but I least I know what changes to make next time to my order.

Yelp
overdue coffee date with tesee!!! i was going to be in the area and asked if she was avail to meet up. we agreed on place and time super cute coffee place service is a bit on the slower side but the foot traffic was present on this saturday AM we opted to sit outside, as it wad a beautiful day! we went halfies on their lemon poppy roll and the ham & cheese croissant . both delicious , IMO! i ordered the jason lee - its a latte with earl grey and chocolate ganache, it was okay, like a 7/10. would not order it again, i like my lattes and coffee on the strong side. parking: street (free 2 hr) i believe there is also additional parking in the back.
google avatar

Alejandro M.

Yelp
Best coffee in Sierra Madre. Also their pastries are amazing. We go there regularly. I love the café noir (moccha) iced or hot, depending on the weather, and their croissants, ALL OF THEM. Their morning buns and chocolate chip cookies are also incredibly good. The staff is always helpful, friendly, and fast.
google avatar

Lucky O.

Yelp
Cute little place for downtown Sierra Madre. Staff are friendly. Food and coffee were meh at best. The drip coffee and the latte were luke warm although I asked for extra hot. The egg and bacon burrito was waaaay too salty, I mean way out of norm that I couldn't eat more than half. They said they don't have any other sauces because they make their own. Great idea but their house made sauce was, well, yike. Won't go back.
google avatar

Maggie C.

Yelp
Okkkk I love their coffeee and pastries! Got the Jason Lee and Coconut Head and both drinks were great. We also got their morning bun, almond pastry, and The Bodega. Yes it's a lil pricey but worth it. They typically have a wait but everyone there is super nice and the man at the front the orders was warm and friendly. It's also in downtown Sierra Madre so there's a ton of food and shops nearby
google avatar

Andrea G.

Yelp
I ordered the Cafe Noir! It had a thicker consistency than i expected; rich in chocolate, tasted like hot chocolate but iced LOL It was tolerable but next time I'd order something else! The shop is located in downtown, near a lot of offerings! It was pretty busy and service was slow. Though the cashier was helpful and patient answering my questions!
google avatar

Richie D.

Yelp
Stopped by this cute cafe as I was in the area and the staff is super friendly and happy to share about the drinks and give recommendations. I tried their espresso tonic and their bee keepers latte. Both unique in their own way and very good drinks!
google avatar

Loren H.

Yelp
What I had: - BTYM biscuit sandwich ($15.50 x2) - Plain Jane $6.25) How it tasted: - The latte was actually quite good; not too hot and not too sweet. The biscuit flakiness was present along with the subtle sweetness, but the choice of sausage may have thrown off the balance of the dish for me making it more off-putting than "let me take another bite." Why did I give it a four? - Quite busy and the prices were a bit much for what we received. Will give them another chance as I wanted to try a different food item and see if that is redemption worthy; otherwise, the coffee and latte selections are wonderful. Verdict? - Quaint place if you can grab a seat. Give it a shot if you're in the area.

Yelp
10/10 love this place!! friendly staff, great food and drinks, and overall friendly and welcoming vibes highly recommend a visit!! and there tuna melt is a must
google avatar

Caroline C.

Yelp
Great drinks and food, and love their selection of coffee beans which they always grind for me. Unfortunately, the ventilation is still terrible and the air was thick with cooking smoke. I smelled like overheated bacon after 20 minutes in there. Not exactly the scent I'm going for.
google avatar

Anika M.

Yelp
Came to try a seasonal drink. This is a great place to grab a coffee and catch up with a friend. They have many options for food and beverage. They quickly take your order and prepare it. Baklava Latte- 10/10 Great flavor and topping. The pistachio and hazelnut are great together. *Highly Recommend*
google avatar

Yelp
I love this coffee shop been going there for years. I usually order my chai latte and try their pancake this time and was delicious too..
google avatar

Griffin C.

Yelp
A great little spot, might be a little pricier than other places nearby, but I'd gladly pay that for the service and coffee that I got! My partner and I love a great pour over, and the barista was excited to tell us what he had on thier seasonal pour over catalogue. His reccomendation was spot on and I enjoyed the best cup of coffee Ive had in the past month! The baristas are kind and knowlegable and the coffee is great, and the pastries are delicious too!

Yelp
May I0th goood lort !!! Better late than never right ? Who's with me ? This was a great little coffee spot in an area I grew up in . Little town Sierra Madre . This had nice open seating and some outdoor seating as well. I believe they offered wifi as well. What was really cool was everything was made in house. The chocolate , the pastries , etc . Really nice. Have merchandise as well you can get too as seen in pic . I ordered an iced mocha latte extra sweet ! Was delish . Service was awesome and would definitely go back when im back to visit . Go and enjoy if in the area ! Enjoy !!!!
google avatar

Eric A.

Yelp
I stopped by for an optometrist visit nearby, and decided to grab a coffee at syndicate. The cafe seems pretty chill, and had a very layback atmosphere. I ordered an ice americano and a peanut butter cookie. The coffee was good, the cookie was GREAT! Will come back next time I'm in the area. Would recommend if you're looking for a solid cup of coffee and stellar pastry.
google avatar

N G.

Yelp
Croissants are the only thing I like from this place! Service sucks! They're rude. Three people stand and talk while you wait at the register. The place is over rated. I don't care for their coffee. They don't allow you to use their restroom. Any food place has to let you use a restroom. Ambiance is full of rude people just like the staff and the owner.
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
Thee best coffee place in the area but honestly top 3 in all of la IMO. The staff is so nice and food is delish We've started using their breakfast catering for family and work gatherings and everyone talks about it forever The food and coffee are made w/love Shoutout to Alex Paige Angelo Hana That are like family to us at this point
google avatar

Erica F.

Yelp
Came to this place for some juice after breakfast as today is a very hot day. The cashier recommended me to get passion fruit matcha latte and I got it with oak milk ($9), and a strawberry lemonade ($5). We also got a fresh 12 oz pressed juice from the fridge ($12). It costed me for around $28 including tax. The fresh press juice is tasty, but it is just like any other fresh pressed juice. Nothing stands out. Also, $12 for 12oz is a bit too much in my opinion. The strawberry lemonade is very refreshing, and I like it. It is a mistake for me to order the passion fruit matcha latte. It tasted like a sour green tea with milk. I cannot taste matcha or passion fruit, and it is not worth for $9. Servers are friendly. Street parking is available. Will only come back if I want strawberry lemonade.
google avatar

Nikki B.

Yelp
I came here to meet my adorable friend, for a quick coffee sate on a Sunday morning. This place is quite popular amongst the locals and serious coffee connoisseurs. Their syrups are made in house, which is a bonus, and if you're feeling adventurous order the "Mood Ring." It's the barista's choice and I've heard it doesn't disappoint. The café is spacious with plenty of seating so you can socialize, work, or study and the background music is enjoyable. In addition to signature lattes, coffee, tea, & pastries, breakfast and lunch items are also available. The Barista was friendly and attentive. He helped my friend select a tasty non-caffeinated beverage. I requested an Iced Tea, and he informed me of my choices from the herbal tea selection. I asked for Hibiscus. The pastries were tempting buy my thoughtful friend had brought me a cookie and homemade pasta, so I didn't want to ruin my appetite. *Free Street parking and the lot behind the store.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
First off, this has got to be THEE spot to be around this little community cause it was quite lively at every corner. Loved the music and the vibe as a whole. Bit crowded but it didn't stop people with double strollers from coming in. Heard someone say they changed the place but I suppose it was to accommodate more guests inside. Service is decent and flows in a timely manner. Very friendly and professional. Pastry selection looked great! Couldn't pay with it picking up extras for later. I got the Bodega no cheese add avocado. My wife got the basic burrito. She didn't like the type of cheese it came with but won't stop her from coming a second time. I liked my bodega. I'll get it again. Hit the spot. Can't wait to dig into my PB&J cookie though. See pics below. I'm curious about the old fashioned and dirty sunrise drinks. It's on my list for my next visit. BTW BYOK they didn't have any Ketchup so bring your own.
google avatar

Kirsten S.

Yelp
Line was long but you can order online. Wait was about 15-20 min. Ordered their chorizo burrito and peppermint marshmallow chocolate muffin. 10/10! Cost about $21 total. Inside has limited seating. We sat outside of Starbucks across the street. Street parking free the first 3 hours.
google avatar

Juan F.

Yelp
Headed over here as Coffee.jpg was jammed packed. I really enjoyed their coffee and the service was great. My only complaint is that the wifi is suuuuper slow so I was having a hard time even opening emails and there is also no restroom.
google avatar

Denise V.

Yelp
Cute little place in the town square area of Sierra Madre. Ordered the kumquat danish - delicious!! The bolt latte and London fog tea - really tasty! There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but no restrooms. Barista and counter staff were very friendly.
google avatar

Julia K.

Yelp
Tried out Syndicate today for the first time, it's a cute little coffee shop/cafe in Sierra Madre close to some of our favorite coffee shops. Syndicate seems to be busy when we drive by so we thought we'd check it out today for a latte and a sandwich. I ordered the honey iced matcha, recommended by the barista and an everything bagel bacon cream cheese sandwich, my husband got the bodega sandwich. Both sandwiches were good but the better of the two ended up being the bagel sandwich, the pickled onions and everything seasoning really added a lot of flavor that was missing from the bodega sandwich. The iced matcha was sadly not flavorful, the matcha color was okay but the matcha quality itself was lacking so it ended up tasting more like an iced milk and still very unsweetened. The photos and recommendations on Yelp seemed like there was more to offer here but sadly we were a little disappointed. Overall the bagel sandwich was a good bite.

Yelp
Nice coffee shop in downtown Sierra Madre! It was a tad crazy when we stopped by in the morning of the Wistaria Festival, pretty crowded, but we still managed to snatch a table outside. There are tables inside as well. The decor is pretty simple, nothing fancy, but cute overall. I was happy to see their pasty selection. Amazing! Fresh, lots of options, despite the customers coming and going. I got the cherry danish and the morning bun. Both outstanding, nice crust, the cherries tasted fantastic. The capuccino-s were pretty good, made with oat milk, served in paper cups due to the on going line of customers. Downside? A tad crowded, and no restrooms. For a food establishment, you need a toilet for peeps! Pluses? OK prices, nice service, some of the best pastries I had lately! Syndicate is the best coffee shop in Sierra Madre in my book!

Sofie N.

Yelp
Is one option really an option? Why do people with Celiac disease have to live with Communism? Just kidding. I hate capitalism. But I do enjoy getting a cup of coffee once in a while, instead of paying rent, and it would be nice to be able to also chew on something at the same time. Something not sweet but more crusty and slightly bitter, like this review. The staff is always nice, so now I feel bad for complaining. This place is like the living room of Sierra Madre. A really weird living room with too many high chairs which makes sitting on the only couch a strange experience, like being on a throne but in a hole. Not looking at the view of the mountains but instead facing a sign that says there is no restroom for customers. Surely this must be illegal, when the main fare is a diuretic drug?!

Nena M.

Yelp
Great coffee, amazing house/made pastries, great service.. what more could you ask for? 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
My doctor's office is walking distance and I often go to another coffee shop down the street but saw this one on the map and decided to give it a try. When you walk in the shop is clean and inviting with lots of patrons and staff greeted me right away. The barista that took my order was friendly and knowledgeable, he answered my questions and gave me several suggestions. I ended up ordering the coconut head latte hot and the season iced peace cobbler matcha latte. Despite the shop being busy both came out reasonably fast. The coconut head latte was very good with a sweet vanilla flavor and the espresso itself was phenomenal. I honestly couldn't taste any coconut to it at all which was a bit disappointing given its name, I don't think I'd order that drink again but it didn't taste like a quality vanilla latte. The peach foam on top of the matcha, WOW. I want that on everything! The matcha itself was smooth and sweet. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in the area.
google avatar

Stella Y.

Yelp
Their bakeries and pastries were freshly good. Selection of coffee beans were more on washed and lightly roasted side which fits my hunting for coffee. The barista was more than willing to share knowledge. In the morning it would be packed and hard to find an indoor table/seat (that's real demand for a table:P) A little treasure of Sierra Madred small town!

Karol G.

Yelp
Great coffee and food but doesn't open until 7:30 / kind of a bummer with school drop off, makes it so you can't go in before school :( and the ONLY option in town open at 7am is Starbucks :( Please consider opening at 7am
google avatar

Puja N.

Yelp
I come here to escape and write. The coffee girls know and always ask if they can save me a table (I always decline but it's the gesture that makes me happy) everyone is so polite here and the food is actually good. I always get a tuna sandwich and a brownie chocolate cookie but you really can't go wrong with any of their teas, coffee's ect. Even though the place is packed I always find a place to sit and the noise is never too loud for me to get work done
google avatar

Ada Y.

Yelp
Cute cafe with outdoor seating, good lattes with good food options to catch up with friends. Good work place if you can find a seat with decent WiFi but limited charging spots and no bathrooms. Parking is ample on the street or in the extremely large free lot behind the building. Baristas here are quick, efficient, and very friendly. Music is good. Background coffee shop sounds is really good for working here lol Purple people eater is an ube latte and delicious; probably will be my new go to after the coconut head.
google avatar

Sara H.

Yelp
I recently discovered this place, they have specialty coffee and food is amazing, if you like tuna, Tuna Melt sandwiches would be a great choice. The service is good and they are very patient to explain each different specialty of coffee to us. The place is small but relaxed . Love the vibe inside and outside.

Yelp
Wow, this place left me feeling good!(: Was in the mood for some coffee and a good breakfast burrito, so I jumped on Yelp and found syndicate! Yelp doesn't disappoint with recommendations and it certainly didn't with this one, it was absolutely amazing. The cafe is located in downtown sierra madre in the cutest little building; the shop is spacious Inside. I was kindly greeted by the staff as I walked in and was helped right away! I ordered the basic b burrito and was feeling adventurous so I went for the mood ring coffee which is where you let your barista surprise you with a special drink. My only request was to use oat milk! The burrito was a great breakfast burrito, It was a good size and had the perfect ratio of fillings, a nice savory treat. The mood ring though.... Now that was seriously amazing, idk who made it or what they did but this drink was flawless; it was milky, chocolatey, sweet, very slightly bitter, with the still strong taste of espresso. I fell in love lol, and it have me the perfect kick of energy too. I will most definitely be back here, honestly pretty soon too, the prices are unbeatable for what you get!
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
I've been here quite a few times so I think it's solid when I say this place is awesome. You walk in, stand in line and place an order at the register. They'll give you a pager for food or standby at the coffee bar for your drink. Please do yourself a favor and order a 'mood ring' it's a coffee but the barista selects the flavor for you!! You get to choose if you want it hot or iced, and if you have a milk preference. I've never been let down and it's just too fun. If you get a chance to try the filled morning bun, it's awesome and so is the scotch egg muffin! Trust me cut it in half before you eat it so every bite is some muffin, egg, and yolk. The muffin is savory it has chives and sausage!! They also have breakfast burritos and the bodega breakfast sandwich is solid.

Yelp
If you want great coffee and pastries try this spot out! I had an iced lavender latte and it is top tier. The lavender syrup is house made and it is not too sweet. You get the strong espresso flavor with the right amount of sweetness from the lavender syrup. Perfect on a hot day in the SGV. I also had their almond croissant and it is delicious and one of the best I have had. It is baked perfectly with the perfect fluff and bounce and the right amount of richness. It is not too rich and has the perfect almond paste to breading ratio. The only bad thing is their line takes so long. Not sure what they're doing, even with 2-3 people ahead it takes an abnormal amount of time.

Yelp
Still one of my fave coffee spots in the SGV!! And yes - I still get their Mood Ring every time I go haha! What's the Mood Ring coffee? It's whatever the master barista feels like making for you - and it's always such a delightful surprise!! My Mood Ring today was a raspberry with chocolate ganache and omg it was fantastic!! All of their Mood Rings have been amazing over the past year - they've made me flavors like chocolate covered strawberry, lavender orange latte, cinnamon cookie butter, honey chamomile with steamed sweetened condensed milk - always a treat! And the baristas always smile when you ask for it - they have fun surprising us and I LOVE that! They have some great food too - I especially love the honey lavender scones - not too sweet with delicious lavender flavor infused - and their raspberry jam is amazing. All the staff have always been incredibly friendly and welcoming. They've recently redecorated and it's a very chic, relaxing vibe with cozy seating and mountain views to compliment the people watching. Great location right in the middle of cute Sierra Madre - I'll definitely be back for more Mood Rings! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Coffee in Sierra Madre, Los Angeles, California... My friend, Hannah, recommended this business because we were having breakfast in Sierra Madre yesterday. She said that Syndicate is right down the street from where we were - and that the "Mood Ring" latte is whatever the barista feels like making! Ooh! That's fun! Let's get it! To be honest, I'm a procrastinator. I needed to use the Mood Ring latte to reward myself for doing the recycling thing. Haha! So, I set my goal for the Mood Ring latte for after I complete the task... Mission accomplished! I found free street parking and walked along the quaint "village" of Sierra Madre! Inside of Syndicate, the shop was about half filled with customers working on their laptops. Cony, Brown, and I spotted a comfy blue sofa to take a break! We went to the counter and ordered the Mood Ring latte, non-dairy (with oat milk). The smart, helpful, cheerful cashier asked: "Hot or iced?" Great question! I chose iced.. It was perfect! It wasn't too bitter, nor too sweet, but just right... With a touch of cinnamon for a healthy feel! We wouldn't mind returning and sitting outside again in the fresh air, warm sunshine, cool climate, and beautiful natural background of the mountains!

Yelp
Solid 3.5 coffee shop. I liked the pastries and they were delicious. I highly recommend the morning bun which is kind of like a croissant muffin covered in sugar. Usually there's some citrus but I didn't taste it here. The lemon curd berry danish was also very good. I got the coconut head latte and something was a little off about the flavor however the coffee quality was pretty good. My partner got the London fog and it took a while to come out (probably due to steeping the tea?) but sadly it was pretty watery.

Yelp
TASTY food, delicious coffee, great atmosphere, and good chairs for sitting for a long time while catching up with a friend!! The paint job is changed again (I originally came for the retro look but it's still nice with the stars).
