Sysco Worker Strike Ends Giving Restaurants a Labor Day Weekend Present | Eater Chicago

"A suburban distribution warehouse for North America’s largest food distributor, employing about 125 unionized warehouse workers, reached a tentative agreement late Thursday to end a four-day strike that had disrupted deliveries to Chicago-area restaurants. Workers, who had been without a contract since February 2020 and began bargaining in January, were set to return on Friday after the tentative deal; roughly 200 truck drivers also walked off in solidarity, worsening cancellations and delays and forcing restaurants to scramble for alternative suppliers. Company representatives prioritized deliveries to hospitals and schools during the stoppage. Union leaders characterized the action as a necessary last resort to secure workplace protections and respect, and reporting suggested the dispute involved questions around wages and whether employees from a recently acquired independent distributor could join the union, which would affect bargaining leverage." - Ashok Selvam

Chicago Restaurants Worry About Food Supplies Due to Sysco Strike | Eater Chicago

"About 125 warehouse workers at a northwest suburban Des Plaines distribution center began a work stoppage, and roughly 200 truck drivers soon joined in a sympathy strike, halting many scheduled food deliveries and disrupting supply lines across the city. The workers, who have been without a contract since February 2020 and resumed negotiations in January, say talks have made almost no progress over the last eight months and that more than 99 percent of membership voted to strike; their supporters argue they were pushed too far after keeping schools, hospitals and restaurants stocked. Management has warned most deliveries will be missed or delayed, says vital facilities such as schools and hospitals will be prioritized, and reports it is bringing in staff from other locations and third parties while rejecting claims of bad-faith bargaining." - Ashok Selvam

Not the best directions for truckers. Pull through the gate forward to a place for us to stop. Then check in with security They let us in through the security gate at 4:50 AM. for me, and my appointment was for 7. Receiving shows up at 6 AM. We are giving a door we leave the trailer in the door we bring the paperwork into receiving at 6 AM. And they use capstone logistics. They're gonna send us a text message about the loading and the payment that's very high. I was empty, but I bought a round 8 AM. Even though I was the first truck and it took a while to get the payments made and the paperwork. And hooking back up to the trailer. The bobtails park by a water tower that is on the southeast. We have to drive around to the docks that are on the Northeast. Some of them are covered. The best appointments are the first ones because it can get really tight to put a trailer in the docks.

I don't understand the horrible ratings about this place the guard shack people where so nice easy instructions and yes it is a bit tight but I been to much worse this normal for me and wait time is also normal being in produce u should always expect 4 to 6 hours with any load its not instant! And they also let me park after I got loaded to finish my break had to leave by 5 and they had a clean restroom inside just ask!

8:30 Appt arrived at 8am. 11 pallets of packaging material. 5 hours in with no end insight. Those corporate labor camps should be thoroughly inspected. Will not deliver here ever again.

This place doesn’t care about people or human compassion. I arrived early with a very small truck, only 3,000 pounds, but had to wait more than 24 hours. They have no appreciation for our work as truck drivers, or for the long hours and being away from our families.

I arrived at 7:30, and at 8:30 they called to say the trailer was ready and asked me to pick it up from the dock. I'm standing there waiting for the paperwork, and it's now 1:00 PM, and I'm still waiting. I wish these people a lifetime of pointless waiting for a miracle

Terrible place. Their normal is 4-5 hours for delivery and it doesn’t matter how many pallets you have. Very unorganized and the docks are very tight. I hope i don’t have to come back to this place again!

Straight forward. I arrived at 0545 for a 0700 appointment. Security was.very helpful and gave good instructions. Dropped trailer in assigned door and parked in designated area. I had about 7 pallets and was unloaded by 0745. Lumper service is Capstone and all electronic. Retrieved bills and then my trailer. Unfortunately, receiver gabe me.all my bills back and didn't keep their copy and I didn't notice. One of the better Sysco DCs I have delivered to.

I sent an inquiry as i'm looking to change distributors at my restaurant. A couple of weeks have gone by, and i've not heard from a sysco representative. This morning, I received a text message from me. A salesman tried to sell me a POS System my sysco representative's referral. They don't even have time to give back to me and I'm trying to make a purchase with them. But they do have time to have other companies. Contact me. NO THANKS
