Szarotka Restaurant Bar Banquets

Got my Polish food grub on. Great pierogis, sausages, cabbage rolls at a great price when I ordered the Polish Plate 2. I made three meals out of it for $25. And my service was attentive and generous. The place itself kinda reminded me of an Eastern European gangster hangout like you see in the movies, lol. Will definitely be back.

Derek the best waiter is amazing along with the best Polish Food. So worth the money one dish enough for 2 if you like to share! I DON'T SHARE LOL! LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS RESTAURANT!!! Best Polish food I have had in a long time. Everything was so good. Must try the Plate #1 with mushroom gravy. The potato pancakes were really good 2.

I absolutely loved the Polish food at this place. There were so many things I wanted to try but I got the potato pancakes covered in a gravy with pieces of pork and vegetables that was so delicious. I chose sauerkraut as a side and was just the perfect compliment to the potato pancakes. Everyone in our group really enjoyed their choices. Can't wait to go back. Prices were very reasonable and the portions were very generous.

We had dinner here and it was a great experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us great suggestions for our entrees. The food was tasty and authentic with good portions at a reasonable price. We will definitely come back in the future.

Great food at a good value! Perogies and sausage was very good. Kraut was a good balance, not too overpowering. The potato pancakes came out crispy and flavorful. My dining companions had the Borscht with beef roll, as well as the stuffed cabbage rolls with . mushroom gravy. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and had plenty to bring home. Highly recommend!

Just had a funeral luncheon here for a dear family member (60ish people). The food was incredible, the owner and staff so kind and charming, and Polish beer (Zywiec) on tap was flowing and in glass steins. I cannot recommend this place enough. As a Lithuanian, I thoroughly approve of this Polish gem in Justice!

Have wanted to visit here for quite some time. Finally made it and the food and service were amazing. Very authentic old-school Polish food.

Let's start with SERVICE, how does Great sound!!! Our server was very accommodating helpful and soo nice and friendly made this very enjoyable, food was delicious, freshly made, flavorful and plenty!!! We took home leftovers that made an additional meal. Definitely a lot of bang for our bucks. The place had nice decor was a bit cold, we were offered sweaters, I had one in my car despite that everything was great.

I've had a few Polish dishes in the past but nothing like a true authentic dish from a true Polish restaurant. While in Chicago we try to sample different foods and dining experiences the city has to offer and managed to come across Szarotka's restaurant. We were not disappointed. In one word, Delicious! The service was great as we were promptly greeted and seated at a comfortable table for four. The area is good for families yet well suited for larger events and larger meals. I sampled a chicken dish bathed in a very unique teriyaki sauce with mushrooms and vegetables. My side of sauerkraut and mashed potatoes completed my meal. We also had a Polish Plate No. 1 which was a combination of sausage, sauerkraut, pierogies, and cabbage rolls. Our dinning companions had a side of potato pancakes and cucumber salad (we had to sample) The best potato pancakes!

Homemade from scratch soups, potato pancakes and pierogis?? Kind service ( waiter was so nice) and old skool cold and dark banquet hall decor plus a full bar and slots... Old skool Polish rules!!! Huge servings and yummy homemade everything!! Yes we will be back!!!

Fabulous food fabulous service! Very generous portions. We really love to take the drive down there. Sometimes we order dinners and sometimes we split different dishes because everything is just so delicious!

Nice neighborhood restaurant. Ample parking in their lot. Lift chair for handicapped access. Clean, simple decor. Greeted on entry, self seating. Prompt attention by server, limited wine selection, I believe full bar service is available. Sampler plate 1 included delightful grilled smoked sausage, cheese pierogi with bacon, tasty but not overly tart sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, and gołubki with choice of tomato or mushroom gravy. Both were requested on the side. I've always liked tomato sauce-that's how my mom and Boosh made it-but the mushroom gravy was rich and very flavorful. I may have to switch my preference! My only negative thought is that the gołubki needs more meat and less rice in the filling! Limited selections for dessert, the cheesecake with berry sauce was satisfying.

Met my 3 girl cousins + spouses for the Holidays menu online was intriguing and did not disappoint! Our only mistake was going too early 11:00am. It be way better for dinner. The potato pancakes were hot and crispy. The stuffed cabbage had a tasty mushroom gravy. The goulash soup was piping hot. Hot borsch with dumplings was yummy. Service was good too. We will be back!

Took my family for dinner tonight. The food was fantastic and the staff were attentive and fun, Lumina was a sweetheart. So much was familiar and so much was new. Its hard to find food that compares to home made but they knocked it out of the park. Let's start with the Potato Pancakes: Not the flat greasy things that you get at other places but big, thick, deliciousness that don't even require sour cream or apple sauce. The Gloabki: They weren't what I was expecting, as I have never had one that could touch my wife's. These were filled with rice and meat, I say that because there was more rice than meat. However they were possibly the best that we've ever had. The mushroom sauce was delicious and the tomato sauce was tasty with a touch of caraway. Sooo good. Pierogi:: Delicious and tender. Next time I will ask if we could get them fried a little. Sausage & Kraut: Delicious, Delicious, Delicious. Cheesecake: Amazing. With a blackberry/wine sauce and whipped cream. I could talk about them forever, but I'll just say. Dziękuję za wspaniałą noc Szarotka.

Food was plentiful and the staff was super friendly. The ambience has room for improvement.

Off today sauerkraut was very salty, fried cheese was perfect, fries good. Pork with house made cream sauce and potato pancakes delish. Come on tap was bomb, ice water served with lemon excellent.

Was here today for the first time with our (almost) entire family after funeral service for our mom. This place is truly a hidden gem. Food was exceptionally fresh and generous potions all cooked to perfection as if you were in momma's kitchen. Will definitely be returning to Szarotka probably sooner then I think. Dumplings, mashed potatoes, beet salad tossed salad, beef in gravy. Roasted chicken, breaded pork tenderloin, sauerkraut all made to order. Nothing reheated here. What an excellent meal we had. They don't have sweet and sour cabbage but I added a little sugar to the sauerkraut and it was lovely. Their breaded pork tenderloin is huge and tender and delicious. The mashed potatoes and potato dumplings are excellent. Gravy is pretty good. The potato pancakes are awesome. Thick. We had a very nice gentleman serving us who was very accommodating. I initially ordered the pork shank and it was a little too fatty and a little less meaty for me so I asked if I could send it back and he took it with a smile on his face. Would definitely definitely come back here.

The food was delicious! Service was terrific. I had stuffed cabbage and potato pancakes. Just like my mom used to make! My husband had stuffed chicken and homemade mashed potatoes. He ate it all!

Came across this Polish restaurant on Yelp. The guests dining there mostly speak foreign language, so we thought this place must be authentic! Turn out the food was truly amazing! The pierogi, stuffed cabbage rolls, bratwurst, and the cucumber salad came with it were really good, just as I thought. The potato pancake and pork stew was surprisingly tasty! I usually don't like potato pancake, but it absorbs the sauce from the meat stew so it's flavorful:)

Went here for the first time today and it was fantastic. We had the potato pancakes and they were so crispy, served with the traditional sour cream and applesauce. Those were our favorite! We had the stuffed cabbage with tomato sauce and those were amazing. They give you huge portions so you will have leftovers. The tomato sauce was perfectly flavored. We had a half dozen perogies, potato and cheese, and the pork cutlet with dumplings. The pork was huge,crispy and tender. The dumplings were buttery goodness. We will certainly be back. The service was also superb! Keep up the great quality and we will be back. They pride themselves on quality homemade dishes.

I did not expect this place to be that amazing. We called in advance for recervations since on yelp has such good reviews The food was out of this world. I have had some what of polish food before but nothing this so delicious. Great service. People are very friendly and nice. They have big screen tvs for sports. This is a place where you can watch your game and have amazing food at the same time. I ordered Polish plate 2 and loved everything. For desert we had cheese cake and I was impressed how exquisite it was. Also, I noticed everything is cooked by scratch, no cans, no bottles no preservatives. Probably that's why everything was so tasty. Definitely recommend it. And I will definitely come back.

If you want the best Pierogi, go here! Every time I fly in from Cali, I have to come here! The service and food are the best!

I usually like the food here but today the waitress yelled at me and my mom from across the room that they won't seat us because there is "no room". A table was clearly opening up, but I'd understand if anyone would come up to us to talk to us and let us know what time to come back. But no, I guess me and my senior mother did not deserve that ounce of respect. We waited for 3 minutes hoping maybe someone would give us the time of day after that exchange but no... so we turned around and found better service somewhere else.

This place made me cry when I tried to book a party a few years ago . I just wanted to book a surprise party for my husband from Poland who was turning 30. I showed up in my christ hospital scrubs and wanted to discuss party planning. I said I wanted to do open bar and appetizers like they did for a well known dancer a few months earlier. They said they only do special circumstances for her and won't do it for me. I didn't wanna risk it and showed up to janosik with my dad and they honored my wishes. It was a successful party and all the uncles and aunts had a good time. I guess now with all the hype about helping first responders then I hope they would be nice to hospital workers now.

Decided to check out Szarotka for lunch after bringing our aunt to the cemetery. The finest Polish food in the area! The potato pancakes were fantastic! The Polish Plate 1 was out of this world. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious! Our server was a very nice gentleman who also engaged us in wonderful conversation. There are not too many establishments like this around anymore. Be sure to check out this gem when you are in the area!

Great polish dishes prepared perfectly. We had the polish platter and potato pancakes. The mood in the restaurant is different since it's set up like a catering hall. Big tables, no entry area or hostess to greet you. On our midweek visit with 4, we were the only ones there. We almost drove away thinking it was closed. It was not the best experience to be in a big lonely space. Positive part was we had the waiters and the kitchens whole attention. Probably better at lunchtime. The quality of the food made up for the lack of ambiance. For your next funeral function, the place can't be beat.

Excellent home style cooked Polish food. Had the meat perogi, stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes, smoked polish sausage and saurkraut. Pretty chill place to relax and I am enjoying the 90s techno on the sound system :)

We were recently here for a post-funeral memorial luncheon. The event was arranged over the phone, food untasted and sight unseen...it was very close to the location of the services and was recommended by another family member. As soon as we walked in, we knew we had made the right choice. The staff was friendly, the food was delicious and accomodating of our larger-than-expected group. While we we wish it were under better circumstances that we had found Szarotka, we are glad we did.

Delicious food and service was tough but our waiter was very efficient. 20 people will be back.

We went on a Sunday early evening. There were several tables of mostly families and young children at that time. Walking in to the restaurant is awkward. We felt like we walked into the back entrance of a banquet room. There was no one to greet us or even a hostess desk. It is large open room with no dividers of any kind. However the food we ordered was very good. We ordered the cabbage rolls, sausage and pierogi. My mother -in-law had a pork dish with potato pancakes and mushroom gravy that was very good. We enjoyed our meals but the restaurant atmosphere was not a pleasant experience..

This wonderful place has become a family staple and we live 45 mins away! Derrick is amazing and always accommodating! The pork tenderloin and mushroom cream sauce is to die for!!!!!!!

I work in the building next door to here, so I usually do a carry out lunch. First of all, they have the best borscht with meat dumplings. I never had warm beet soup as good as their's. It's sweet and tangy, and just amazing. I ALWAYS order it, no matter what I get as my main entree. Pierogi are decent. I usually get half of them potato, half of them meat. They tend to load up the bacon on top so sometimes I opt out. Potato pancakes are the thicker battered style and very, very good. Breaded chicken breast is good with the mushroom sauce as well as the stuffed cabbage with the mushroom sauce. Everything I've tried here I've enjoyed but I always tend to order the same items because I can't get over them. OH! and the cheesecake with the raspberry wine sauce is to die for. I believe they are closed on Tuesdays for dining in/take out.

This place is garbage. I asked for water because they don't even serve water at events. I got sink water in a jug covered with some brown gunk on the bottom. When I asked for a glass of wine my wife and I got ID'd. Best thing I can say about it is that the coleslaw is probably made with real cabbage cause it smelled worse that my garbage can.

I have been to Szarotka several times and have never been disappointed!! Him the most recent time was the day of my wedding. It was a small little event with only the closest family invited. We picked Szarotka because of the deliciousness of the food as well as the good value you get there!! I have tried the cabbage rolls, potato pancakes, soups, pierogi, and the list goes on and on... Almost everything was amazing!!! I have always loved potato pancakes with goulash so I ordered that once and I was disappointed. The goulash was sort of overwhelming and not at all how I remember it from Poland. Everything else...perfection! Service is also fantastic! There's this one blond waiter who always helps us (can't remember his name) but this guy is great! He's friendly and knowledgeable. His service skills are impeccable! Can't wait to go here again!

It was our first time there. Service was excellent even though the waiter was also the bartender & answered the phone. He was busy with about 5 tables, people at the bar & doing to go orders. He was friendly & very nice. The food was excellent & the portions huge. Cant wait to go back

We were first time visitors and we were treated like family. My wife had the fried salmon and I had the breaded pork tenderloin. Food was great, service was awesome. We will be back.

After the funeral of my Dear Aunt, we had reservations to go to Szarotka's. After hearing such good things about your polish food, and with being Polish myself, was looking forward to being there and visiting with many relatives that I have not had contact with for a very long time. Unfortunately my son who is wheelchair bound and I were unable to gain access because the building is not handicap accessible. I had a hard time giving them the fifth star, but ultimately decided it was worth it even though there are a few issues I had. POSITIVES: 1) They have a very small menu, but the food is excellent and arrives quickly. 2) The servers are extremely polite and great with both adults and children. NOT POSITIVES (but not really negatives either): 1) It's a difficult place to get into if you have older people with you. There are quite a few stairs. They proved to be a bit of a challenge for my 81 year old grandmother (even though she gets around pretty good without any assistance from walkers or canes); however, after tasting the food, she said it was worth the climb. 2) The tables in the bar area are kind of awkward and uncomfortable. 3) Their pierogi aren't all that great. I grew up on pierogi and these were just kind of limp and doughy. They needed some salt and definitely needed to be cooked in a pan a bit longer (or maybe baked) to get just a hint of color on them and firm them up a tad. RECOMMENDATION: You won't be disappointed with the fish (Orange Roughy, if I recall correctly) or the pork cutlet. I've had the regular cutlet and the stuffed cutlet; they're both spectacular (and enormous). The fish portion is also very generous and expertly cooked (I don't really care for fish in general, but I'd order fish here any day of the week). So maybe my "not positives" section was long, but I still gave five stars. Yes, the food is THAT good.

Great place for Polish food. Everything is delicious. My favorites include kwasnica, kotlet schabowy, and potato pancakes. Highly recommend.

This is where my family decided to have father's day dinner. yes. it was 1 pm. yes. it was my dad's decision. yes. it was a nice time. the overall look is somewhat outdated, however this can be overlooked as the food they serve there is good polish food. what i would recommend is the kotlet or what they refer to as "the best pork cutlet EVER" THEY ARE NOT LYING GET THIS OFF THE MENU. with fries and ketchup and you are set to go. now if you are like me, and you want to be different of course you're going to chose the potato pancakes with beef goulash and be sad. i was sad. also the pierogi really didn't live up to their usual deliciousness, but then again it's hard to compare restaurant pierogi to what your grandma makes!!! i'm coming back there to get my pork cutlet one day, which is IMMENSE in portions and breaded and fried to perfection. the sports bar area looked nice from where we were sitting too. a nice and pretty good polish place. apparently they have nightclub events there? might be cool. might have to swing by ;)

First things first, only house wine available and you get the impression that it's not a good brand. Strange uninviting atmosphere with only one person on the floor for everything. Potato pancakes were very good. Had the platter where everything, except smoked sausage is just kind of mushed together and tastes the same. Menu says side salad with entrees, but waiter explained that on platter, the sauerkraut is the salad. Huh?

The food was excellent. One review here was correct that the pierogi were a little doughy, but everything else was really good. The person who served us, Darek, was super nice and friendly and very insightful about the culture. We found this restaurant on Yelp as we were in the area, and I'm very happy we chose well.

Really good polish food! I'm polish and we come here to eat with my family and friends pretty often. I've never had anything bad here. I love the highlander soup and the krokety!

The best polish food on the southwest suburbs..There pork tenderloin is so tasty and oh those delicious dumplings are wonderful. .The staff is friendly and the owner is a great man..You can always get a nice cold glass of Polish Beer...You have to try this place and believe me you will keep coming back..

We had my mother's memorial luncheon here and had an excellent experience. Their friendly and prompt service for our 50 guests was great. The food was plentiful and delicious. The entire staff was warm and welcoming to our group. Thanks to all at Szarotka.

It's a shame as we didn't get to try the food. Upon arriving, we found it was not handicapped accessible. Shame on the owners for not allowing disabled individuals in their establishment.

Went there for the first time last night with my sister. Have to say that I will be back again the food was awesome. Will be recommending this restaurant to friends and family. And we had an awesome waiter named Derrick!

We went here for my mother's funeral banquet. Did not know this place even existed. Very glad we went here. The staff was very courteous and attentive and the food was wonderful. The potato dumplings and chicken were exceptional and everything was made just right. Also being a big salad person myself, and critical over my lettuce, I could not stop eating it. Also critical of sour kraut and again, it was the best. Dealt with Derrick (spelling?) and he was most attentive to our needs, and more so. All of our guests had no complaints. Price is just right on a per person basis. Highly recommend this restaurant to just eat dinner or for banquets. Would go here more often if it wasn't so far away. Thank you very much for making the end of our very sad day most pleasant for us. Donna V

Was so great to find and authentic Polish Restaurant & Bar in this area. I hate chains and always look for authentic foods but am usually stuck with the basic Italian, Thai, or Mexican. I was very pleased with their service and that they prefer to speak Polish if you know it. Their food was everything I know Polish food to be, the 'real' Polish food anyways. I went there twice in one weekend just because I couldn't get enough! BRAVO!!

Ever since the new owners took over everything went bad. The food is bad because they changed cooks. The staff is highly unfriendly and very unpleasant. I feel uncomfortable being there myself. If you want great polish food I do not recommend this place. Sunday's were always busy and now they are not. The only thing keeping up this place is the banquet. Not that great of service either. This place will not last looking like this ...
