The 13 Best Chinese Restaurants Around the Twin Cities

"Chef Luo Guanghe’s dishes, shimmering with chili oil and studded with peppercorns, hit all the hot, sour, mouth-numbing notes of classic Szechuan cuisine. Try the beef and tofu in hot peppercorn broth, or the spicy lotus roots as an appetizer." - Eater Staff

Google
Just moved to Cove and had been looking for a good Chinese restaurant. Finally found this place, and let me tell you it did not disappoint! The wait was a little long (about 30 minutes), but the food was worth it. The egg rolls were delicious, cooked perfectly crispy and hot, not soggy like at some other places. The chicken lo mein was packed full, almost overflowing, and the beef and broccoli were amazing. My family loved everything, especially the rice, which was some of the best I’ve ever had. You can tell it was made fresh and that they take pride in what they serve. Overall, an excellent experience. I’ll definitely be back. 10/10!

Google
We got take-out from Szechuan Chinese Restaurant in Copperas Cove on a Thursday in our quest to find good Chinese food in the Central Texas area. The restaurant is located well off the main road in a large strip mall. Except for the sign, from the outside it doesn’t even look like a place to eat. Inside, it looks like what you would expect of a Chinese restaurant. The owner was working at the front counter and was very friendly. We got the Bo Bo Platter (for 2) as an appetizer. It has (2 of each) egg rolls, beef steak (sticks), fried shrimp, BBQ ribs, crab puffs, fried chicken wings. The egg rolls and fried shrimp were okay, but we wouldn’t get them again. Both the beef steak and BBQ ribs had good flavor but were overcooked and not worth getting. The crab puffs were our favorite and we also like the chicken wings. Next time, we will only get an order of crab puffs and skip the rest. For our main courses, we got the House Special Lo Mein and the Orange Chicken. The House Special Lo Mein has chicken, beef, and shrimp. The Lo Mein had good flavor and just the right amount of sauce. We both liked it and would get it again. The Orange Chicken was okay. The flavoring was right on, but there was way too much sauce and breading on the chicken. It sometimes seemed like we were eating only breading and no chicken! The fried rice that came with it was good. Finding a good Chinese restaurant is challenging in Central Texas without going down to Georgetown, Round Rock, or even Austin, where there are a lot more options. Szechuan Chinese Restaurant is a family owned and operated local business, and the owner told us that she has been in this location for 30 years. I have been pretty critical of some of the food, but overall, I recommend that you give this local business a try. I’m confident that you will find something that you would like to eat here (without having to drive all the way to Austin!).

Google
The service is wonderful and the prices are good too. My only take is sometimes the pieces of chicken looks a bit suspicious and the texture is a bit off but other then that, the flavor is great the portions are very filling. I gave atmosphere a three out of five because when I was sitting in there the table was little sticky and the place was dim and kinda of lack luster.

Google
Good food met wonderful people I believe most people order intake out

Google
Our go-to choice for Chinese in Copperas Cove. We order to go and always have enough for several meals. I get General Tso's, my wife gets Lo Mein. We always get plenty of egg Rolls to eat with leftovers. The long time owner is very friendly, has always been.

Google
Went there for the first time today. The food was delicious, hot, and fresh, and reasonably priced. It’s not a fancy restaurant but it does not have to be. It’s clean and the lady who served us was friendly, polite, and efficient. There are some comments that the place looks dark, but given the large size of the restaurant, there is no reason to waste energy by lighting up the entire place. It appears to be a family-run restaurant which means they are trying to make a living.I don’t judge the quality of the food based upon the lighting of a place. Will definitely return and support the business. Loved the food and respect the owner for keeping it going.

Edit: There’s no excuse for the tiny amount of sauce I was given. You’re in charge of assigning the amount of sauce. Take some accountability for your bad decisions and fix it. I'll never order from here again. I can't say the food tasted bad, but I have never been given this little bit of sweet and sour sauce from any Chinese restaurant in my life, and I've eaten it across the country, for over 3 decades. There's a quarter for size comparison. I looked for an option for extra sauce before I even saw this tiny cup, but didn't see it. Most restaurants fill up the cup the same size as the one you put the rice in with sweet and sour sauce.

Google
By far, my favorite Chinese food restaurant in Copperas Cove. They dont skimp on anything. The flavors are AMAZING!! The people there are absolutely beautiful inside and out and are just the sweetest! Absolutely recommend!

Yelp
While the food is delicious. They do not allow eat in dining. It's been 4 years and as I don't mind grabbing food to go, I'd like to sit and enjoy my food hot. Look at an actual menu and relax. Enjoy the food but it's time for me to look for another place to grab good food. It's just time to move on.
google avatar

Jade M.

Yelp
Ordered food from this establishment for the first time today. They are takeout only. The inside was gloomy and looked filthy. Got home and tasted the food, should've just walked out after seeing the inside, it was horrid. There was something off about the taste. Trashed all of the food. It was over priced and disgusting. Don't waste your time. $29 dollars for two orders down the drain.

Yelp
Use to eat here years ago. Came back recently and tried it again and still love it. The owner is nice as always, and food is great and plentiful. I have either the beef lo-mein or the sesame chicken with a won-ton soup.

Andrew M.

Yelp
The best Asian food in town! I love this place. The food is always great and made fresh. The lady behind the counter is also the sweetest!

Rhemy C.

Yelp
Only had the food once & it was delicious, but they really need to update the correct times online. Drove all the way there because it said they were open only to find they were closed.
google avatar

Ann O.

Yelp
The food could be better, maybe more flavor. It's different every time you get the food. Some good, and then some not so good. Service is you place an order and wait with every one else. No dining in, it's dark and dank in their. They're saving money not hiring staff. Food could be a little cheaper and more flavorful.

Stephanie T.

Yelp
They should prepare your food with special instructions everyone does not eat pork or maybe have a better menu on DoorDash because I wanted shrimp and broccoli and the only way I could order was on the combination meal.

Precious M.

Yelp
I love the fried rice! It reminds me so much of the Chinese food from back home. I would recommend to anyone looking for good Chinese food

Laura M.

Yelp
Great food and friendly service! They' are currently open as carry out only so make sure to call ahead.

Tammey B.

Yelp
Sometimes it is good, other times it isn't so good. Prices can suck, but that is everywhere now. If you like Chinese, this may be the best option if you don't want to go to Killeen or further for it

Jane J.

Yelp
The woman who runs this restaurant is extremely nice! The egg roll is one of the best I ever ate! The food was fresh and delicious! The hot and sour sour was more hot than it was sour. The soup was underwhelming, because it only had bamboo shoots and a ton of pepper. I was hoping for some tofu and woodear mushrooms. Overall the food was great and I would eat there again. Takeout only!
google avatar

Rello R.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in the whole Killeen area. Nobody can touch them. The worst part is that they are not open for sit in dining. I would suggest you order over the phone then go and pick up. It took a little while to bring the food but everything was fresh and good. You really cant go wrong ordering here tho. The pricing is pretty normal and the size of the food is really good. If you want Chinese this is the place to go!

Lauren W.

Yelp
This is my 2nd review. The last review was 2 years ago This is our go to place for Chinese takeout. It's only takeout since COVID. We've ordered many times and the quality is consistently excellent. Best Chinese food in Central Texas.
google avatar

Angel G.

Yelp
I tried this specific Chinese restaurant due to the high reviews. I ordered Generals Chicken with fried rice. The Generals Chicken has a lot of breading on it, more than what I prefer. The sauce was on point! I am very disappointed in the fried rice, it is overcooked, extremely dry and very little fried egg in it, I didn't see the egg until I poured it on my plate but then there were only 4 small pieces (again not what I'm used too). They do not provide plasticware or napkins. The lady was very nice taking my order and checking out, she did ask if I wanted soy sauce.
google avatar

Ryan O.

Yelp
My favorite! I've been visiting this restaurant since I was very young. Every time I am visiting home I always stop and get orange chicken, hot & sour soup, and fried rice. But everything is great - GTs chicken, Mongolian beef, etc. The absolute best!
google avatar

Polar B.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE this restaurant. This is a small local business. It is fantastic. I have gotten different things each time I've gone there. They've all been very delicious. Egg rolls, orange chicken, and chicken lo mein have all been excellent. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
We absolutely love the food here. In most cases it is fast but when they are busy it can take a bit. Anytime it's like that it's literally a reminder that many many people also love the food here. We have never had a bad dish. The food has always been fresh and hot and plenty of it. We mostly order to go but have also dined in.

Bryan H.

Yelp
Continually hangs up on customers. The food is heavy on the sauce but not on flavor. Chicken was chewy. I would not recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Amie E.

Yelp
Ummmmm. Wow. We ordered take-out, chicken/vegetables, moo goo Gai pan, steamed dumplings and crab puffs. Every. Single. Thing. was delicious and hot and a ton of food! I love this place and plan on eating there at least once a week from now on.
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
Just moved here from the Northeast. We were spoiled with many excellent Chinese restaurants. Previously to our move here we stayed in San Antonio a few months. The worst Chinese food ever! We tried Szechuan Take out tonight. We were pleasantly surprised!! The food was phenomenal! Chicken Szechuan, chicken cashew and pork fried were delicious. Owner was pleasant and friendly. What a find

Yelp
I called to place a delivery order but didn't realize it was through we deliver Cove instead of the actual place so that's a little deceiving of yelp to advertise it as a delivery place. The delivery service was good they called to let me know they were running late and my food arrived nice and hot. I was a little skeptical but the vegetable fried rice was pretty good a little salty for my taste but a lot better than a few other Asian places around here. Fried rice is pretty much a signature dish and it was good so if all else fails try that. As for ordering delivery don't think I will do it again it's a great concept but I'm not willing to pay $5.99 to get food delivered.

Yelp
First visit here.... the phrase hole in the wall, bat describes this place. Decor is old but welcoming. This is your mom and pops place.. food was great. It is a pleasure to see real Chinese couple who can cook make good food. And the lunch special dine in was great. Home made won Toni their won ton soup, and a great spring roll. Full menus was great. Good selection. Will come back to this place soon.
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
Excellent Chinese food at excellent prices. Unfortunately with the changing of time also the changing of businesses surrounding it...it's engulfed in GC Services (some sort of money/tax collector phone call service) on both sides with a few normal businesses scattered between (Heidi's, and a craft store). However, that has not lessened the goodness of their food. I often come here when I visit Copperas Cove. I can't recommend any particular thing because everything that they serve is great! I hate hot and sour soup, but all the people I've gone here with like it -- they think Szechuan's has the best they've ever tasted!
google avatar

Jasmine K.

Yelp
Food was tasty! It was hot even after the car ride home. I had general tso chicken with fried rice(fried rice could be better, there's no vegetables in it. Literally just fried rice) and an order of vegetable lo mein. Lo mein was the best part unexpectedly, I love the tiny corns!

Tracy M.

Yelp
I have never had tasteless Chinese food until now. The "fried rice" was white rice with soy sauce on it no ingredients. The large wonton soup was three noodles in water. I'm a bit disappointed after spending $50 for duck bland food. If they are cutting ingredients to get them through the pandemic they need to reduce the menu prices as well.
google avatar

Alex Y.

Yelp
I ordered take out for lunch. I got the sweet and sour shrimp with fried rice. The fried rice was bland and the shrimp was okay. I liked that the sweet and sour sauce was on point other Chinese restaurants in the area seem to water down their sauce losing its flavor but this one had its flavor. The price was good and I would come here again to try other dishes.

Jamelle S.

Yelp
Well to be real honest its aight its not that good as people say im from chicago i know good Chinese food and to me some of the dishes are horrible sorry to tell the truth if you order pepper steak make sure you tell them go light on the onions or you will have onions steak instead trust me speaking from experience all onions no steak maybe 2 little pieces so now you know the real the combination fried rice is the bomb thats good but not everything.
google avatar

Angie L.

Yelp
I had the lunch special - shrimp with mixed veggies. It comes with fried rice and an egg roll. Everything was fresh. However the rice was just fried rice, no veggies in it. The egg roll was very small, more like spring roll. Overall the meal was a bit salty- definitely didn't need soy sauce. It was ok for the price- $6.55 . You get what you pay for and this was a cheap meal.

Yelp
Disgusting!! First Chinese restaurant I tried when I moved here and it literally made me sick.

Kasi R.

Yelp
My boyfriend ordered delivery from here at 6:30 pm tonight (Tuesday). They use a third party delivery service (We Deliver). When he placed the order, it said that the expected delivery time is 7:12 pm. The delivery time kept getting pushed back. The driver was supposedly at the restaurant waiting for the order for over 1 1/2 hrs. During that time he called the restaurant to try to cancel and they kept ignoring his request to cancel and asking him if he wanted chicken fried rice. He then tried to cancel through the delivery service and they said sorry and the delivery is on its way (over 2 hours after the order was placed). I told them no, cancel the order and issue him a refund. They tried to fight giving a refund but after several back and forth messages, they finally agreed to issue a refund. We will NEVER order from here again. The restaurant and delivery service have terrible customer service.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE!!! We got takeout and ordered sesame chicken, beef and scallops, cashew chicken, dumplings, potstickers and lo mein. The beef and scallops had virtually no scallops in it and the two they included were so over cooked they were unrecognizable. The sesame chicken was slimy, chewy and severely lacking in flavor. The cashew chicken had good flavor but was slimy and chewy just like the sesame chicken. The dumplings had no flavor and the potstickers were over cooked. The lo mein is a mystery to me as it is just a bowl of noodles. I've never had lo mein come with absolutely nothing in it. And the fried rice tastes like soy sauce and absolutely nothing else...it was also noticeably lacking in vegetables. I was so excited for this meal and can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am that every item we ordered was inedible. I hope we were here on an off night because otherwise I worry about all the other Yelpers who've eaten here and given it good reviews. We're usually the kind of people that will middle through a bad meal so that we don't waste money, but this time it's just not possible. The picture attached is how everything will be going into the trash. I've never been this disappointed by a restaurant with decent Yelp reviews.

Harry J.

Yelp
Food is not bad. The service on 12/6/19 was really good until I went to check out. Bill was padded. The menu price was raised by $2.00. Not tax related. I asked why. She almost unintelligibly mumbles credit card. I asked again as I did not understand her. She would not look at me as mumbles credit card. I asked do you charge for using a credit card. She changes the bill. I had forgotten a few years ago I had the same problem there with the same Chinese woman. They do not announce charges for using credit card. She just adds this to the bill. I will not go there again. Also, the place looks dingy. The carpet has not been changed in years.

Yelp
My son and I came here for lunch on a hot Thursday in June. The restaurant has subdued lighting and was refreshingly cool. We chose our own table and sat down. I chose Coke and my son chose Dr. Pepper. We were brought two glasses of ice and canned sodas. I chose the Sesame Chicken, fried rice, and hot & sour soup. My son chose cashew chicken, fried rice, and egg drop soup. I asked our hostess for fried crispy noodles to put in our soup and she quickly obliged at no additional charge. The portions were so generous neither of us could finish our meals. The food was very tasty! We'll definitely be back. I really like the decorated tables.

Yelp
This resturant has been in Copperas Cove for many years. My grandma would eat here all the time when she first moved to Cove. So did my mom. We all love eating eating here so it feels like a generational staple. The decorations are old when you walk inside. But don't let that stop you from trying the best Chinese-American cuisine in Cove. I love getting the Combination Rice for dinner, or any of the lunch time specials during work. Each plate has a good size helping so you'll have some leftovers. I also love getting the House Special Soup. Its a favorite of my grandma's as well. Really fresh and light broth, with chicken, shrimp, and veggies. They'll give you a huge cup of it as well. I'll always come here to Schezuan's. They've always treated my family good, and their food has yet to disappoint. Whats on the menu is afforabable and you get exactly what you paid for.
google avatar

N.M. N.

Yelp
I come here a bunch of times with my mom and we thought it was a cute little restaurant that gives you ALOT of food and it's pretty good. We usually come around dinner and the best food were sesame chicken, lo mein, general tso and pretty other stuff I haven't tried. The food I ate are quite flavorful and peaceful atmosphere
google avatar

Kari S.

Yelp
Ordered take out last night, had it delivered by We Deliver Cove. The food arrived earlier than promised and was piping hot! My grandsons both ordered Orange Chicken, while my granddaughter had the Teriyaki Chicken and I had the Sweet and Sour Pork. We also shared a few Egg Rolls. Each order came with a choice of steamed or fried rice and we ended up with 2 of each. The entrees and egg rolls were great, and the steamed rice was good. I was not impressed with the fried rice, but the taste and quality of the other food made up for it. The kids devoured their food with no complaints and it's not an easy feat finding food they all like! The portions were huge, too! Enough for another full meal plus some to snack on.

Kim S.

Yelp
Best chinese in town. Egg drop soup and shrimp fabulous. I go every chance I get. Owner is very nice.
google avatar

Gerardo M.

Yelp
Food is good here, the young waiter might be the granddaughter, she is really hard working and I want to say the older lady is the grandma is pretty funny. We ordered like we usually do and right away the older lady came out and asked us if we were sure in ordering all that food of course I said yes. I told her that's the only way I can get what I want but of course the portion is huge. The fried rice is good the lo mein is alright, thicker and a bit slimy. We had the sweet and sour chicken and I thought it was good, the egg rolls were good, but in my opinion their chicken wings were too salty. Another thing I wish they would have bottomless fountain drinks they only provide cans. Besides that this place is okay.
google avatar

Andrew V.

Yelp
This was an extreme let down for me, due to the high rating on Yelp. The lighting in here was horrible, kind creepy in fact. Despite that I decided to dine in with them. I ordered off of their small lunch menu the General Tso's chicken with fried rice and egg drop soup. The only good thing was the way the chicken was cooked, it had a very nice crunch, yet soft feel to it. However the sauce had no flavor and the rice was not a wow factor either. The soup was okay I guess?? I expected a lot more and I honestly do not think I will come back. There are just to many other places that out do this place.
google avatar

Jena E.

Yelp
If you're looking for fancy this isn't for you. If you're looking for American Chinese with large portions and great customer service this is for you! Love this place!! I have only ate/ordered twice for take out, but great both times! It's my go to for Chinese in Cove/Killeen.
google avatar

Ralph R.

Yelp
This used to be our favorite place to eat chicken wings and fried rice. Simply delicious since 2000 and the lady is very nice. But all of a sudden she says we can't have more than two orders of chicken wings anymore. They are so good left over. She says she needs to save them for other customers. Well then order more chicken wings and make more money! She gave us the impression she does not like to prepare them- because she's running low all the time. She apparently doesn't like to sell us chicken wings anymore for some strange reason. Well, even though we loved their food and service up to those last two times, we will never go back. It's not good business when you refuse to help a good customer savor good cuisine!
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
Three weeks ago I went to this restaurant after ordering on the phone. I get there at the time she told me, but I had to wait 45 minutes to get my take over. There were other people waiting before me. A guy came mes fringues outside and she gave him his food first even though we were there first. They started a food delivery but do not have enough people to take care of the people that go to the restaurant. I complained to the owner, she preceded to defend herself and completely ignored me. I will never go there again. You listen to your customers.
google avatar

Tina N.

Yelp
My family and I decided to give Szechuan a try. It's located in a rundown strip mall which was making us happy that there was still daylight. We ordered our food to go. The order consisted of chicken fried rice, chicken lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, the General Tso's chicken and egg rolls. This is what we always order when trying a new Chinese Restaurant. If they mess these up, then we don't come back. Everything was cooked perfectly. No need to add soy/shoyu sauce ( I only use Aloha Shoyu sauce). Normally that's e first thing we add is sauce. The kids had the sweet and sour chicken and most cases when order it to go, it is soggy by the time you're at home. Not the case tonight. My husband is extremely picky when it comes to Chinese food and he too was thoroughly please! My three year old went back for seconds and tried for thirds ( he had his food and some of the lo mein) but we had to cut him off. He loved it so much that he tried to stuff himself. We will definitely order from here again! Oh and the staff was very friendly!

Bobby S.

Yelp
Ok so I came here and thought, this place can't be good. Boy was I wrong. The food is delicious. I'm not big on Chinese food or Asian cuisine at all but this place is so good. It's worth the drive from Killeen all the Chinese food place there are nothing compared to here. I'll be back
google avatar

Kristin O.

Yelp
This is my favorite hometown spot, and have been going my whole life. Their entrees are huge, lunch is cheap, and everything is fresh. If you want the best egg rolls ever, go here! Mama Chien is the sweetest lady ever, and she'll remember details about you... So become a regular, and she'll chat your ear off. I live in Houston now, and this is THE one place I always beg to go when I go visit family... And this is the benchmark for all other Chinese I eat. If it's not Mama Chien good, it ain't good! :) Oh, and hands down the BEST sesame chicken you've ever had. Guaranteed.
google avatar

Gregg D.

Yelp
I would give it zero stars if I could. The blandest Chinese food I've ever had. Imagine the worst possible mall Chinese food you've ever eaten, this was worst. I had the chicken with garlic sauce and steamed dumplings. The dumplings were straight out of a bag and microwaved. The chicken with garlic sauce, I was warned was spicy. It had no flavor. Spice may have actually helped. There may have been about five pieces of meat total and the veggies tasted like they came frozen and tossed in the dish towards the end. I would absolutely never recommend this place, nor would I ever return.
google avatar

Steven Z.

Yelp
The outside makes this place seem terrible. The inside was very nice and soothing, dimmed lights and nice decor but wasn't to fancy (which is good). Ordered the Szechuan Chicken with Dumpling soup and steamed rice. The soup came out right away, broth was good but dumplings were all stuck together and wasnt' as warm as the dish itself. The main dish came out and the rice was very good and the chicken was great as well. I asked for it extra spicy and it was slightly spicy. My only complaint was the vegetable choices, there was a HEAVY amount of celery and I mean I ate the dish per normal and had a lot of it and had to separate it towards the end because I was sick of tasting it. There was little to no broccoli and it could use some onions and more peppers. Overall the waitress was nice and attentive, the food tasted great minus the overwhelming amount of celery. I would highly suggest trying this place to see if its something of interest.
google avatar

Sandra O.

Yelp
Great Food and portions. Been there twice in one week. Their shrimp with broccoli was perfect! Very flavorful and fresh. Their Shrimp fried rice was good, but both times I bought it, it was a slightly salty, but not too salty. It was still good! So far this has been one of those Chinese restaurants that I would continue to buy in. I'm from NY and I know flavor and this place has good food. Some other Chinese restaurants in Texas are not that great. This one gets 4 stars.

Yelp
This is my first review...so bare with me! We tried this place a week ago. It was cold and nobody out, but my husband and I. Service was great! We ordered the orange chicken and fried rice with 2 egg rolls. The Orange chicken and eggs rolls were delicious! The fried rice was flavorless and overcooked. But all in all we went back! Nope never again! The service was terrible!! My husband was waiting to order, and the owner, I believe, completely overlooked not greeted and got cut in line by a white lady because at the owner calling her over directly to order. He brushed it off and continued wait to order. I went in about 20 min later to get the food, and the same lady was in there. I was waiting to pay for my order which I could visibly see on the counter, and the owner, I believe, waved the white lady over to cut in front of me to pay. The white lady got 6 fortune cookies, and grade A service, I got 0 cookies and a crazy look after kindly laughing off my thoughts!
