2 Days in Bruges

"If that’s not enough choice, this spot ups the ante with 300 different beers to pick from." - The MICHELIN Guide

Google
A pretty spectacular place oozing with charm and character. Eye catching patterned floors, old wooden tables which could tell a thousand stories, old style gloss paint and flamboyant wallpaper and brewery signs adorn the walls. Brugs Beertje boasts both great draft options and an extensive and impressive bottled beer list that will cater for those new to Belgian beers and also highly accustomed beer nerds. I highly enjoyed a bottle of De Cam which was both jammy and tart, and went wonderfully with a plate of cubed cheese, pickles and delicately chopped red pepper with a firey mustard. I finished on a draft 15% Belgian Italian imperial stout which was very worty and thick! It is perhaps among the more tourist-heavy beer spots I've seen in Belgium but equally it was delightful to hear a range of nationalities enjoying their visit. Service was fantastic and I felt well looked after. All well-run establishment well worth visiting. I very much look forward to returning.

Google
It's usually crowded, but you should definitely try it. The beers are great, maybe they could add fries to the menu. You should try the Blonden.🤩

Google
This place has always been about one thing—Belgian beer. Right in the heart of Brugge, it looks as honest and historic as it feels. Locals and tourists mix naturally here, drawn together by one of the best beer selections in the country. Forget the food—come for the beer. If you’re serious about exploring the full range of Belgian brewing, this is where you start. Yes, there are a few familiar commercial names, but they’re outnumbered by an impressive lineup of small, independent producers. Even if Belgian styles aren’t usually your thing, you’ll find something to enjoy—and likely learn a lot in the process. A true essential stop for any beer lover in Brugge.

Google
We finished our trip to Bruges there, and I can't imagine a better place to relax and enjoy a good beer. The menu offers a massive variety of options, with high quality at a very competitive price. We also really enjoyed the food

Google
What a stunning place! This is the authentic belgian beer pub itself! Great beer, great service, friendly atmosphere! Yes!

Google
Best bar in Bruges as far as I'm concerned. Fantastic choice of beers both in draught, and in bottles. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and the bar has a fantastic cosy and homely vibe.

Google
I visited here with my wife 10 years ago, and I still think of it often. One of the coziest, most special places I've been in my many travels. Our server may have been the owner, she had an air of authority to her, but the most laid back vibe. She guided us through the massive beer menu, found a perfect fit for our tastes, and we luxuriated in a truly special place. Even if you're not a beer connoisseur, don't miss out on this place. You will love beer more forever after.

Giorgos K.

Google
A great beer bar with a unique atmosphere, frequented by locals—always a good sign! Be prepared to spend some time choosing from their vast selection of Belgian beers.

Yelp
The beer selection here is insane. My husband and I stopped in for a few pints and had a fun time. Bruge's Little Bear is a must visit.

Yelp
Best beer bar in Bruges. The owner as super helpful. Come for the mascot, stay for the great bottle selection

Yelp
Was SUPER PACKED when we arrived. If you're COVID nervous, this might not be the spot for you (unless you come right when they open). I was super uncomfortable with how full the place was and wanted to leave, but then I learned about the back room! There's a back room you say? So I say! We went to the back room and were the only people there, it was lovely. The bar is covered with beer memorabilia throughout the years, has dried hops hanging from the ceiling, and had classical musical playing. Why classical? So as to not distract from the beer! There was also a small dog running around. I was blessed with a lick, so I can die now. We tried a number of local brews, as we came on a beer tour. We were very happy with everything we tried and the vibe was nice. As the back room started filling up, we moved on to our next spot. Would return.

Yelp
During my trip to Brugge, I stopped to have a beer or 3 at this bar on two separate occasions. If you like beer, this is a must stop while you are here. In true Belgian and beer snob fashion, any beer you order comes in it's correct glass with the brewery's logo. I love that. Beers were great and the list was extensive. I could have hung out here many more times during my trip!

Yelp
One of the most popular beer bars in Bruges, so it's a little tight, a little loud but lots of fun. They have a big ass booklet of all their Belgian beers. If there is something special you're looking for, ask the server. He gave us a great recommendation on a kriek we might not have otherwise tried. The two times we've been here, it's always busy but service is efficient. They have some specials, so check out the board. They don't have a small food menu - mainly consisting of appetizers. The pate plate is perfect for 2-3 people. It's not my favorite beer bar in Bruges, but it's definitely the 2nd.

Yelp
Belgian beer is the best. 't Brugs Beertje is the best beer bar in Belgium. Therefore it's the best beer bar, period. In all the lands. Or at least it is according to my math--and I'm sticking to that. First off, the place oozes charm and character. A little bar area with a handful of taps greets you as you enter the front door. Or grab a seat at one of the tables in the front or back room. On our first visit we sat at the bar and talked with the friendly bartender while trying a few locally made beers (everything was amazing). It was super cool too cuz at one point we had a question about the beer we were trying and the bartender was like 'Oh well the brewer is actually having a drink at the other end of the bar, just ask him.' So we did and ended up hanging out for a bit longer. Then on our second visit (we were in Bruges for two days and came here both days, no regrets!) we sat at a table and chatted it up with fellow travelers til after closing. It's seriously a magical place. You step inside and it's great beer, company, and conversation. Not once did I even think to look at my phone or anything like that. And the beer, mannnn. Probably the best beers I've ever had, and I wish I could remember their names tho I don't think they're available in the states. Gonna have to go back...

Yelp
Great selection of the best Belgian beers with over 160 to choose from. Has a great atmosphere as well as knowledgeable staff.

Yelp
Outstanding Belgian beer selection ! Great place !

Yelp
Reputedly starred in a hairy bikers episode 't Brugs Beertje is a fantastic bar. It is made up of several rooms with only 19 seats around tables and about 10 at the bar. The back room have more tables. The selection of beer is large and the staff know the beers extremely we and can advise with authority. You select you beer from the menu with each type of beer grouped into styles of beer. There are some bar snacks from salami to croque Monsieur. Decor is eclectic with dried hops covering an area near the bar. The walls are covered in beer adverts. If you like to sample beer then this is a place to try. Opens most days from 4pm

Yelp
During my 2 days in Brugge, I dropped by 't Brugs Beertje. It was Wednesday and discovered that it was closed. The next day I went back and stood in line before it opened at 4 PM. I am so glad that I returned. This is one of the BEST beer bars in the world. The bartenders are knowledgeable and know their beers. This is no small feat as their beer menu is 40 pages long! They have small batch beers and Belgian craft beers. Each beer that I saw served was in the proper glass. One of the more unusual ales was Den Ijzeeren Arm, a 9% ABV, 4 grain triple, brewed with fenugreek and mustard seed. The taste was unique with the various flavors coming in waves across your tongue. I had a Pannepot Reserve by De Struise Brouwers. This was a delicious dark ale. I had two Belgian craft ales: Smiske Extra, an excellent hoppy Belgian ale Préaris Quadrupel. This Quad is magnificent. Préaris recently won the prize as the best craft brewery in Belgium. If you love really good beer, do not miss 't Brugs Beertje.

Yelp
If you are looking for an authentic Belgium Pub with lots of locals, this is it. Amazing selection, lots of things on the walls to look at. They have everything you want, and great hospitality. Remember--before you take a table or seat, make eye contact with someone on staff. It may be considered rude to just sit down and expect service in this part of the world.

Yelp
Very nice Belgian beer bar. Loads and loads of good beer options, including fancy and tasty gueuzes. Good atmosphere and service.

Yelp
The beer selection was huge and the experience was pleasant. Typical bar atmosphere; small and quaint. Location was easy to find. Would stop in again!

Yelp
The Beertje is the kind of convivial, old-style beer bar that is frequently talked about, but rarely encountered in reality. In addition, not only is it a bar, it's kind of a monument to Belgium's entire brewing tradition, with vintage ads and glassware of every description lining the walls and hanging wherever a place can be found. It's a huge menu, but to my American beer geek friends who may be reading, this place is all about Belgium. All Belgique, all the time - so if you're looking for rare Mikkeller bottles, Swedish beers, etc, this isn't the place. Still, it's an impressive menu, even considering that many of these beers are available on the other side of the Atlantic. Some have only spotty availability or aren't available at all, though - and if you're visiting from America, these are the beers I suggest trying. Forget your Deliriums, Chimays, Chouffes, Westmalles and the like while you're here and go for something hyper-local. Ask your bartender or server. When I was there I had a quadruple from a very small brewer I'd never heard of (sorry, don't remember the name) and it was great. I don't drink quads all that often, because they are just too big, boozy and warming for Southeastern US drinking....but in Bruges, with a blanket of COLD rain coming down, it seemed far more appropriate. With music reduced to a bare whisper in the background, this bar is for drinking and conversing. Tables are so close together, it's almost impossible to not talk to some new people - that's how a real bar should be!

Yelp
Awesome beer bar! Sometimes you just run into a place that is outstanding and this is one of them. The lady who owns the bar is really knowledgeable of beer, but she is really busy. However, it seems that this is the kind of place where the rest of the clientele is also quite beer-savvy so we got some great recommendations from the other customers. Can definitely recommend.
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
A total gem! Tiny, out of the way pub off the main drag. We stumbled in here after our initial Yelp-recommended restaurant wasn't open yet. The lady who runs the place is SUPER NICE and helpful - she explained the special beers in detail and was quick to serve (uncommon in Europe). We enjoyed the atmosphere and also got some food off the menu. I had the spaghetti bolognese, which was surprisingly fantastic (I was starving and needed food) and my husband had some pate which he loved. All in all a great place to stop by for some beer and atmosphere off the main drag!
google avatar

Soomin R.

Yelp
Such a cute little place tucked in a small alley off the main streets. We went after dinner for a few glasses of beer and enjoyed every bit of it. Neither of us are beer experts, so I can't comment on the quality or selection, but suffice it to say that all looked good even to the inexperienced eyes. I loved my Vedett white beer too! Ambience is the best part. Lovely decor and with the classical music playing in the background, it was the most sophisticated beer pub I had ever been to. Highly recommend it if you are in Brugge!
google avatar

G B.

Yelp
Excellent place for beer and experiencing the local atmosphere. Luckily I got a seat at the end of the bar and was able to observe the action, while enjoying a few great beers. Appeared to be a mix of mostly tourists with a good sprinkling of locals as patrons. I sampled three wonderful beers that they suggested and a salami and cheese plate, which ended up being my dinner, perfect. Daisy the boss was friendly and very helpful with the beer selections. Somehow she was able to talk to me while handling her steady flow of customers. This was my first stop in Bruges after a 14 hour flight and train ride from the States. Thank you Rick Steves for the recommendation!!!
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
This place has a cool local feel which I'm not sure actually occurs in Bruges considering we are all tourists. They have a great selection and the bartenders are very accommodating in making a beer selection based on your taste. Highly recommended and we sat at the bar which may have helped bring out the local flare.
google avatar

Marine B.

Yelp
More than 300 beers, most of them from Belgium!! Each served in its specific glass, which is quite stylish :) This bar is everything you need for a friendly drink of excellent beer. They have every variety, including fruit beer, and you can stay as long as you want at your table. Only 2 downsides: - there are only 5 beers on tap... - if you don't know Belgian beers well - and all the more if you don't speak Flemish - you feel quite lost when given the 20-page menu. More guidance would be appreciated.
google avatar

Andrew D.

Yelp
If you love Belgian beer, there is no finer place. A mind-blowing selection - I tried this awesome beer called Charles Quint (named after Charles the Fifth, Ghent-born King of Spain), that had the coolest four-handled mug.
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
The place is amazing. No frills- cozy- warm- great beer selection. Hell, Michael Jackson beer hunter came here (see photo- 'nough said). Highly recommend for beer/pub lovers.
google avatar

Minqi W.

Yelp
Nice place for Trappist beer. I like the rodenbach so much. It has a good flavor for ladies
google avatar

Yelp
very sophisticated bier hall with great music and aesthetically un-matched. Will find myself back here soon.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has the best beer in town. A big thank you to the wait staff for making us feel like we are at our home town bar.

Yelp
Beer menu = Bible. Equally long, equally confusing.

Christopher H.

Yelp
Great collection of beers, friendly staff who suggest a beer if you're not sure which to pick.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
Very famous well known destination for the Belgian beer lovers we were able to get a table enjoyed a few bottles of beer out of over 300 types it pretty impressive collection. Some of obscure and less commercial brands could be enjoyed here!
google avatar

Marian N.

Yelp
Beer heaven for my hubby. Tucked conspicuously in the alleyway off the main shopping strip. Was packed with what seemed like a mix of locals and tourists. Lots and lots of beer options, played classical music and small selection of food on their menu- I got their toasted ham and cheese sandwich, felt very homey :)
google avatar

Josiah D.

Yelp
Cool spot! Good knowledgeable service and tons of bottled beer. Met a few locals and had a great time.
google avatar

Majlinda K.

Yelp
Great pub to sit and enjoy some Belgian beer! Our waitress was British and she helped us out a lot with the French/Flemish menu. They have a massive beer list and really affordable! They had a really big collection of fruit beers which I am a big fan of. My boyfriend loved the Belgian lagers the waitress recommended. The place is small and cozy and not very loud. One thing we were a bit disappointed at was the fact that they did not offer flights of beer since we wanted to try almost everything. If we are back in Bruges we will come back!
google avatar

Henry M.

Yelp
The Brugs Beertje should be a must-drink on anyone's visit to Brugge. We tried a few places in town but the Beertje seemed to be the most genuine swirly, hoppy nexus of Belgian Beer that we encountered. It is a historic beer drinking mecca with every inch of the walls covered in old beer advertisements, etc. Note that there is a "back room" entered through a non-descript door at the back of the main area. This is where we ended up on a busy September evening. This room was jammed with friendly fellow drinkers and we spent a delightful hour sampling a couple of their 300 (?) brews. Not much else to say and if you can get in, it is definitely worth the effort if you like good beer in a genuine old pub.
google avatar

Emelyne S.

Yelp
Such a cute tiny jar tucked away from the main square. They had a huge booklet of all the different beers they offered! Definitely a must go for the beer lovers!

Yelp
Quite simply the best bar I've ever been to. A selection of around 300 beers, with the specials and reserves changing every so often; guest beer on draught along with the mainstay Brugse Zot. The lady who runs it, Daisy, is simply brilliant, as are all her staff. A range of snacks that are simple and tasty. The atmosphere is loud and a little cramped but it just seems to add to its charm. In the five times I've been to Bruges, I have wasted entire days in here. It has a sort of intangible comfort that makes it a little dangerous; go in with a few friends part way through the day for a 'cheeky Zot' and it quickly turns in to 'stay and work slowly through some new beers'; or just taking a book and sampling a few of the reservas for a relaxing evening. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!
google avatar

Melissa D.

Yelp
We had a fun night trying many of the wonderful offerings of this lovely pub. The owner was very friendly and hospitable. We met several Americans there trying some of the MANY delicious beers they had available. It wasn't easy to find, but definitely worth the time we spent looking for it!
google avatar

Qype User (.

Yelp
simply the greatest bar on this planet , a selection of around 250 beers and no pils as the owners say pils is not a belgian stlye of beer run these days by the inimitable daisy ,nice range of lambics and just a great relaxing place must visit on any trip to belgium
google avatar

Nick L.

Yelp
Loved it! Tons of great beers on tap and a total down-home/old world bar feeling. Big fan and can't wait to go back. Good service too!

LJ N.

Yelp
Awesome beer choices, friendly staff, and fun people! On a quiet side street, and frequented by locals and tourists. The food choices are limited, but the beers are extensive. They have some drafts but more by the bottle. They are cash only, but there is an ATM nearby.

Jeremy M.

Yelp
We were in Bruges during the true off-season for the area (the month of January). Many businesses have closed for the month and 'gone fishing' (as one sign we saw said). After unsuccessfully attempting to go to other highly rated bars in the area, we stumbled upon 't Brugs Beertje and they were open for business and ready to serve. Located on a cute little back street (but then again, all back streets are like that in Bruges), the bar has a many tables, but also feels like a nice small bar, as tables are located in multiple rooms. A wonderful Belgian vibe inside, tastefully decorated. The real reason you are coming to this bar is for the beer and they do not disappoint. Upon arrival, you are presented with a 20+ page booklet listing pretty much ever beer made in Belgium. It can be a little daunting if you don't know each and every small brewery or Trappist monastery, but our waiter dutifully took our requests for the types of beer my wife & I were looking for and gave us each a selection we were more than satisfied with. Venturing out on our own to order the next round, we pretty much confirmed that any beer we ordered off the menu would be excellent. Also had the cheese plate which was large & tasty with multiple types of spreads to add to the experience. Definitely recommended for the Belgian beer loving novice or connoisseur!
google avatar

Bianca F.

Yelp
my husband and I went here while visiting Bruges. The beer selection was almost overwhelming! So many selections. The waiter was very helpful and provided a lot of great suggestions. We were able to find a cozy table in the corner and settle in. All of the beers we tried were very good and we would definitely recommend this place to any and all beer lovers!
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall type bar. After you get the full of having a beer in the markt tourist traps stop here for an amazing selection and cozy atmosphere.
google avatar

Marcia C.

Yelp
Awesome bar beer! One of the most popular beer bars in Bruges, so it's a little tight, a little loud, but lots of fun. Worth a visit!

Kerri-Ann L.

Yelp
A very quaint little pub! It gets very busy as soon as it opens so I would recommend getting there early for a table. It's in a very touristy area yet has maintained a local pub feel.

Debi N.

Yelp
If you come to Bruges you have to come to 't Brugs Beertje. Located on a side road off the beaten path but Bruges is a small town so you'll have no problem finding the place. Small and quaint with flair on the walls and glassware hung and shoved in all nooks and crannies by the bar because of course each beer is served in it's corresponding labeled glass. You definitely feel like you are in an European beer parlor because well frankly you are. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming with a more local feel. Since I was traveling alone I sat at the bar large enough for just a few people but was able to befriend the bartenders and the others who sat at the bar. Maybe because I was a young female drinking alone but everyone made me feel welcomed and even split a few large bottles of their own with me. Before I knew it I had about 4 glasses in front of me to taste. They have about 4 beers on tap as well as two different types of Chimay and of course the bible of bottled beer. I felt overwhelmed looking through the beer bible and basically just ordered all the taps and of course had the samples from the other friendly patrons. 't Brugs Beertje is noteworthy and definitely worth visiting when in Bruges.

Qype User (.

Yelp
Quite possibly the best place on earth. Characterful, a full of wonderful beer after wonderful beer. It's full of two sorts - locals and tourists. But they're both made as welcome as each other. And Daisy is a legend. A must go to pub.

Nadine M.

Yelp
Awesome! Great place to taste all you can of great Belgium beers. You will be lucky if there is a place to sit but don't worry wait few minutes and the personnel will let you know as soon as a seat is free. Ask for the menu and have no worries if you get lost, here you can trust the bartenders advice.

Sandra B.

Yelp
One of the best bars so far, helpful staff knowledgeable about beer and willing to make suggestions. Busy on a Saturday afternoon!

Peter S.

Yelp
Great selection of beers and very friendly service. It's tucked away from the main tourist streets with a good mix of customers. Food is limited but very well priced. I would recommend trying the Delidrium Tremens (pink elephant) @ 8.5% :)
