I recently visited/ate at this establishment at Kern's. The service was pretty quick given the line length for their food. The menu is very short and simple, which actually contributes nicely to moving people along rather quickly. The burger meat is very tasty, as is the bun! They make their own sauce which compliments the burger quite nicely. I would rate it as a 5-star if not a couple of downers. First, the burger patties are pretty darned small and get lost in the bun, so it's difficult to taste much meat. I had to peel some of the bun off in order to taste any meat--thus making for a super small sandwich. I think it a third patty would remedy this but then your burger & fries goes from $12 to $15.50 (w/taxes). Probably not a deal breaker for many. What was unfortunate--and I'd make sure it didn't happen again--was that I don't eat American Cheese and so I had them hold it. However, I expressed that I would prefer a garlic pickle over the regular but didn't want to pay an extra $2.00 up charge. The cashier said, I'll take care of that for you and so I said OK. He took care of it alright, by up-charging me $2.00! And, when I got my order, it had two pickle slices the size of a quarter in a little plastic cup. I asked the server if this was right, because I envisioned a wedge, not two tiny little slices. Without missing a beat, he said YES so I took him at his word. Oh yeah, and the burger comes with sautéed onions. Mine had about three slender/skimpy strands--weighing in at (I'd guess) a fraction of an ounce--so few/little that the only way I knew for certain that they added any was by lifting the bun and searching for them. I certainly couldn't taste them.
So, after taxes and tip, this tiny itty-bitty burger with very little onion on top and an order of fries cost me $18.00!!!
I'm not sure I'll return anytime soon but if I do I will definitely get a triple burger, so I can actually taste the meat. And, I'll not pay an extra $2.00 for two little pickle slices.
Keep in mind, this stripped down burger (sauce and onions only) will still set me back $18.00. Is it worth it... $18 for what is essentially a Big Mac & fries? Depends, it's all relative I guess.
ASIDE: The ambiance is lively but with EXTREME noise & light pollution! Adding baffles/sound dampers and dimming the lights would be a great addition to the Kern's food court!!!
