"The Temple Where Angkor and the Jungle Collide Better known as the Tomb Raider Temple since its starring role in the Hollywood movie of the same name, Ta Prohm has at least as much star quality as Angelina Jolie. Cloaked in dappled shadow and locked in the embrace of the vast root systems that are still reclaiming it for the jungle, the temple is arguably the most atmospheric ruin at Angkor Archaeological Park. Construction on Ta Prohm began in 1186 C.E.; it was built in honor of the mother of King Jayavarman VII. Modern-day visitors are not permitted to climb onto the crumbling galleries of its 39 towers due to safety concerns. Nevertheless, picking a route around the various structures, close courtyards, and narrow corridors sprouting with lichen, moss, and creeping plants is one of the most enthralling experiences at Angkor."

Nature meets history in the most magical way! Ta Prohm is truly breathtaking. Ancient temple ruins wrapped in giant tree roots make it feel like a lost world. Peaceful, mysterious, and incredibly photogenic. A must-visit in Angkor!

Simply wow. I found the rebuild of this temple amazing. They showed what it looked like before and after. The trees were also extraordinary, if you looked up high you could see some bees nests. This was my favourite temple out of the small and large temple tours. Don’t miss this one!!

Ta Prohm: Where Nature Reclaims Ancient Stone! As a local guide, Ta Prohm remains one of my absolute favorite temples to share with visitors. Unlike the perfectly restored Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm offers a truly unique and evocative experience, showcasing the raw power of nature intertwining with ancient Khmer architecture. What makes Ta Prohm so special are the colossal silk-cotton and strangler fig trees whose roots have embraced and, in some cases, consumed the temple's stone walls. It's a breathtaking sight that truly transports you back in time, making you feel like an explorer discovering a lost city. This "unrestored" charm, famously featured in the "Tomb Raider" movie, adds an undeniable sense of mystery and adventure. While navigating its crumbling corridors and narrow passages, you'll find countless opportunities for stunning photographs. I always point out the intricate carvings still visible amidst the encroaching foliage, reminding visitors of the incredible artistry that once flourished here. Be prepared for crowds, especially during peak season, but even then, Ta Prohm manages to retain its magical atmosphere. It's a place that speaks volumes about the passage of time and the enduring spirit of both human creation and natural forces. A visit here is not just seeing a temple; it's experiencing a living, breathing testament to history and nature's embrace. Highly recommended for those seeking a truly atmospheric and unforgettable Angkor experience!

It is amazing to visit something this old and significant. It has been here for a centuries and maybe millennium. It boggles the mind how these structures were built with so much detail. It is something that must be experienced. This is one of my favorite temples in the area. Well worth visiting.

The “Tomb Raider” temple! Literally my favorite, nature is truly incredible! I absolutely recommend a guide- most hotels will also provide you with a driver, which makes it easier to navigate, however share you only want the fun facts unless you like long tours!

Ta Phrom temple is absolutely breathtaking and a must-see! The atmosphere truly feels like stepping onto a movie set. The way the jungle is intertwined with the ancient stone structures, almost as if the forest is swallowing the temple, adds an incredible and unique charm. It's an unforgettable experience – highly recommended!

This has to be one of the more popular temple sites thanks to Lara Croft, aka A. Jolie. There are also huge trees that have taken root into the temple, growing directly from the sandstone. The pros: good views of interesting trees, a view of what seems to be a different temple floor layout, and some cool wildlife including birds, bees (no pun) and various reptilian friends. Some carvings were in really good shape. The floor layout of the main temple building is different than others you may have or will have seen on the small circuit. See it while you can in its unpreserved state before repairs give it a new identity. Cons: there are tons of tours that are stacked right on top of each other, so it may be sparsely populated at one hour and then packed with hundreds of tour goers the next hour. People selling souvenirs are sometimes pushy, and even small children can be seen asking you repeatedly to buy something from them. Finally, the rebuilding of these sites (or repairing, as some will call it) detracts from the ancient appeal. Also, lots of tourist garbage all throughout the nooks and crannies of the temple sites.

Ta Prohm stands out in the Angkor complex for its unique fusion of jungle and ancient architecture. Massive tree roots wrap around the crumbling stone walls, creating a powerful, almost otherworldly atmosphere. The temple is less restored than others, which makes it feel more raw and authentic. Some areas are partially collapsed, but that’s part of the experience. Paths can be uneven and slippery, so good footwear is recommended. Often crowded, but still worth the visit for its iconic scenery and mysterious vibe. One of the most photogenic and memorable temples in the area.
