Came here for lunch with a reservation. Small establishment so I would highly recommend making a reservation. Food was very good and came in generous portions. We didn’t expect to enjoy the tomato salad as much as we did. Succulent sweet tomatoes balanced perfectly w the salty ham and cheese and the subtle sweetness of the figs. The garlic prawns were very fresh and very tasty. The sauce was a little too salty though. The octopus was also very well cooked, very fresh, again, a bit too salty. The sweet potato mash was delicious too. Great meal overall, would have been perfect if it was less salty.

Google
Advisable to book 2-3 days in advance, because this quaint space have very limited seats with too amazing food. We're so lucky to still secure a spot being second on the waitlist at 8pm, on our final night in Lisbon. FOH is super charming and hospitable. They make the BEST sangria ever and yet the highlight of the dinner is us overspending close to £50 to order extra dishes - still didn’t make it to finish their entire menu as we wished.

Google
The taste of the food is amazing. I went there on my own and ordered in total 3 main dishes and 1 starter. That speaks volumes. However is difficult to get a reservation because it’s a tiny restaurant so it’s better to reserve at least days ahead. Without a reservation you will most likely b rejected at the door.

Google
This tends to be one of the most recommended restaurants in Lisbon and for good reason. It’s pretty small and you should get a reservation, but I’ve been able to walk in 2 years in a row and get seated (they open at 7 and second seating at 9 so I’d try going around 8 for a small party walk in). It’s cute inside, service is great, food is modern Portuguese. It’s fresh and delicious and definitely worth a visit

Google
I think this is the best restaurant I have tried in Lisbon. The food is exquisite and the service really fast. We had luck to seat inside without a reservation, but I advise to do so since they are usually full for dinner. We loved every dish.

Google
This was our second time dining at Taberna Sal Grosso, and honestly, we loved every single dish! Just a heads up—there are limited seats, so I’d definitely recommend booking online in advance. We actually had to come for lunch instead because the dinner slots were all full. The octopus and beef cheek are always the most memorable dishes for us; along with bottles of sangria! The staff were super friendly, and overall, it’s one of the best restaurants we visited during our trip to Portugal.

Google
Had a really wonderful experience at Taberna Sal Grosso! The food was exceptional, we loved every dish we ordered. Did not have a single dish we would not order again. Really loved the beef cheeks, so flavorful and melt in your mouth. The garlic prawns were the absolute star! Make sure to order bread so you can soak up that sauce! Definitely recommend to make a reservation.

Google
First restaurant we tried in Lisbon, and by far the best food we had. Got a reservation at 12:30, would recommend reserving ahead of time or arriving right at opening hours; it's small and fills up fast! Aubergine with smoked yogurt was ok, but the octopus with sweet potato, pork cheeks with tomato miga, and smoked pork belly salad were some of the best dishes we've ever had, incredible flavor. The white sangria was so refreshing too!

Yelp
Genuinely one of the best meals I had in Portugal. Sal Grosso is an adorable, cozy, hole-in-the-wall taverna serving up some of the best traditional Portuguese food I've had in Lisbon. It can be a smidge hard to spot; it's tucked away in a little side street, with a simple, unassuming wooden sign marking their storefront. I probably would have walked straight on by if it weren't for the giant line of people forming as we all waited for the taverna to open at 7 PM. Given how popular it is, you absolutely need to make a reservation; even though we got there right at opening time, we heard several groups get turned away because the place was fully booked out for the night. Thankfully, we had a reservation, and we were invited into the coziest little restaurant; the simple, rustic wooden tables were pretty tight together, with just barely enough space to shimmy through the tables. The menu was displayed on a giant chalkboard, which spanned an entire wall. And the menu was as delicious as it was expansive. Sal Grosso serves small plates, so our server recommended that we get 1.5-2 plates per person. My mom and I ended up getting four plates to share, which included their fried baby squid, aubergine with chili yogurt, garlic prawns, and octopus with sweet potato. The plates came out as they were prepared, starting with the baby squid, which was fried to a perfect, crispy, golden brown, and tasted wonderful with a hint of lemon or the dipping sauce they offered on the side. Next came the garlic prawns, which were perfectly tender and had a TON of garlic flavor -- I swear there must have been an entire head of garlic in there. The sauce was pretty light, making it the perfect accompaniment to the fried baby squid and to the more unique, heavier flavors that came with our remaining plates. Next came the two stars of the show -- the aubergine and octopus. The aubergine (or eggplant, for my fellow Americans) was insane...genuinely one of the best ways I've seen someone prepare a vegetable. Mind you, I'm typically an aubergine hater, so I was shocked by how much I enjoyed this. The eggplant was perfectly cooked to be tender and soft, and entirely lacking in the bitterness or weird mushy texture that aubergine so often has. This soft center paired wonderfully with a perfectly crispy shell, almost as though it was flash fried. The exquisite combo of textures was almost rivaled by the balance of flavors; the eggplant itself was coated in a delightful chili sauce, which was salty, spicy, and umami, and it was all served on top of a bed of yogurt. The creaminess and tang from the yogurt was yet another texture and flavor to even further level up the combo the eggplant had created on its own...truly one of the most life changing vegetable side dishes I've ever had. Equally life changing was the octopus. Sal Grosso offers a giant serving of octopus, with two lovely tentacles served over a bed of sweet potato mash and topped with chopped tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and a light broth. I always find octopus to be a bit of a risky order, since it can be amazing when done well, but chewy and rubbery if done even slightly incorrectly. But, that wasn't a concern at Sal Grosso...they absolutely knew exactly what they were doing. The octopus was SO tender, while still retaining a bit of springiness and a great bite. The broth was delightful, and the tomato / garlic / herb mixture on top offered a great pop of freshness. I loved that neither accoutrement overpowered the octopus and really let the natural flavors of the seafood shine. It also paired wonderfully with the sweet potato mash, which was rich and creamy, with a few small chunks of sweet potato left unmashed; the sweet potato was remarkably easy to eat -- I could've easily downed multiple plates of it -- and made a great texture and flavor break in between bites of octopus. All in all, I truly cannot recommend Sal Grosso enough. It has some of the best food I've had in my life, serving up one of the top 20 meals I've ever had (and probably top 5 in Europe), and the space is so cozy and the staff so friendly. If you want a delicious meal with a traditional Portuguese taverna experience, Sal Grosso needs to go on your Lisbon bucket list.

Yelp
This place had great cod fritters and sides (we got a saffron + peppers rice that was so good!) and the salads are great too, the actual fish main dish was actually the more take it or leave it item so I'd definitely recommend filling up on small plates and sharing. This place has one table that I assume is occasionally for a larger party (like 6-7 people at best) that gets used as communal seating otherwise and honestly I just wasn't feeling talkative that day so I felt jealous of the people sat at all the smaller tables that didn't have the dilemma of "am I supposed to make conversation to be nice right now or .... ?"

Yelp
Sal Grosso was the one place I couldn't leave Lisbon without visiting. There's nothing on the menu that isn't phenomenal, everything that we ate was absolutely delicious. It was an amazing opportunity to learn more about traditional Portuguese flavors. The waiters are super helpful and willing to help walk you through the menu of traditional dishes. With how friendly everyone was this restaurant feels like you're having dinner with a restaurant full of your close friends.

Yelp
Very unassuming, but this spot serves traditional Portuguese cuisine with a twist! We were recommended to try the white sangria, it was a bit sweet for my taste, but still enjoyed it nonetheless. Starting with the Tomato salad with cheese, smoked ham, and figs -- loved the blend of flavors and this salad was so so good! The octopus with sweet potatoes was tasty - the octopus was tough (which is usual) and I loved the sweetness of the potatoes. The cod à brás was my favorite - it was creamy and I enjoyed the flavor. We were also a fan of the saffron rice! Finally, the pork cheek was SO tender and falling off the bone!! It was served with miga (bread & tomato mixed) -- it wasn't my favorite, but fun to try! Service was great and we were given great recommendations!

Yelp
I booked this spot months and months in advance, glad I did. Small spot, on the way to the airport decided to have lunch. They were gracious to store our luggage's while we ate, hats off for that. Ordered the pork belly with orange salad, phenomenal. Ordered the chicken fricase great, sangria was solid, the lamb which is a new menu item was fine, the shrimp was delicious. The rice dish was nice, and I feel like I am missing an item, but it was probably good. Check them out, I will do so again when I am back in Lisbon hopefully next yr.

Yelp
Was recommended to try this hidden gem in Lisbon for lunch & wow I really enjoyed it! To start, I couldn't even find the restaurant because it really was like a tavern - low ceilings & hidden with a discreet sign! We were also able to be seated 30 mins before our reservation which was great! We got the white sangria pitcher to drink which we really enjoyed! The sangria tasted citrus-y & minty & the carbonation from the sparkling wine made this drink so refreshing. Now for the food. The octopus dish with sweet potato was a recommended dish & although it was really tasty - it wasn't my favorite of the meal. The octopus was a bit chewy but the potatoes were tasty and the sauce offered a nice flavor on the octopus. I surprisingly really liked the cod a bras as someone who doesn't really eat fish! It tasted garlic-y and I enjoyed the texture and seasoning on it. The saffron rice was thoroughly seasoned & was super fluffy! I loved the tomato salad with figs, cheese, & smoked ham! The tomatoes were nicely ripe & not too squishy and I loved how there was a discreet charcuterie thrown into the salad & everything tastes so fresh. The pork cheek meat was so tender it was practically falling off the bone! I wish there was more of it & less of the tomato pureè on the side but the flavor of the pork was so good I audibly gasped! The staff was super friendly & service was fast! Really enjoyed how the dishes seemed throughly thought out and gourmet without being too expensive!

Yelp
Made lunch reservations here and it was one of our favorite restaurants in Lisbon. It is super duper tiny with a very non-descript exterior. You'd probably miss it if you weren't looking for it. Reservations are almost necessary because the place is so small. The orange salad and beef cheek were stand outs.

Yelp
My friend found this restaurant prior to visiting Lisbon and reserved it for her birthday. I think she either found it online or on IG. We took an Uber to make our reservation because it is located up high if you were to walk in this area and lots of steps. They sat us and it is a very small restaurant. It took a minute to order but we ordered a lot, I read up on reviews because coming here and I really wanted to their orange salad (could have gotten it without pork belly), we really liked the Garlic Ray, we got the octopus and cod dish which are very traditional Portuguese dishes. We got pork, beef, and risotto. We all liked the garlic Ray, risotto, and orange salad. The beef, pork, and octopus dishes had a lot of flavor and we were so full at the end of the night. We got a glass of red to go with our food. Service was pretty slow, we ordered bread because we were starving in the beginning that never came and that's probably because we ordered too much.

Yelp
Extraordinary food! Everything we had was just fantastic. We ordered: bread, the diced tuna, the mini fried squid, the orange salad, the chicken in pepper sauce and the passion fruit crème brûlée. My only complaint was that the skin of the chicken was not crispy, but I took it off and the chicken below was fall off the bone tender. I will suggest that even if you don't think you need the bread, get the bread...you need it to soak up all the amazing sauces. The service when we first sat down, left much to be desired, however, both of the servers warmed up and were awesome! One of them even brought me a small taste of the white wine sangria...it was refreshing but sweet. I had the house white wine, it was also quite delicious. Everything is very reasonably priced. I would return if we ever find ourselves in Lisbon again.

Yelp
Every dish we tried was so yummy there. The cod was our favorite! If you are looking for authentic cuisine while visiting Lisbon, this is the spot. We were lucky to get a reservation since they went viral on social media. It didn't sound like they take walk-ins as they were turning people away. It's a small restaurant with limited seating. Service was friendly and quick, food came out in a timely manner. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
I failed to do more research on Sal Grosso before going in, but this restaurant does a more modern take on Portuguese pesticos, whereas I was looking for something more traditional. We ordered cod fritters, garlic prawns, wild boar, 1 pork belly, and 1 oxtail. Out of all of these dishes, the garlic prawns were our favorite. We found nothing special with the other dishes, however, and we were really indifferent towards our meal. I did not care for the flor de sal wine, and its was my least favorite wine on the trip.

Yelp
Taberna Sal Grosso is a modern taberna located in the alfama district serving petiscos, or small plates. The food was delicious! We tried the baby fried squid, beef tartare, octopus rice, and the pork cheeks with mashed sweet potatoes. Standouts were the beef tartare and the octopus rice. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. It's a small spot so I definitely recommend getting a reservation. We got super lucky on a Saturday afternoon late November for a seating without reservations (a table didn't show up)! We arrived just at opening for lunch and was third in line after a table of 2 and 3. We were a table of 4 and we were seated around 15 minutes after opening (they give reservations 15 minutes to arrive). They do have a second round of reservations so you get a bit more than an hour to eat, which was plenty of time for us. Service was friendly and the space was cozy and comfortable. Definitely recommend trying this spot out if you're in Lisbon!

Yelp
This was one of my favorite meals in Portugal. Lucky for you it's right by the train station so you can have a meal right after coming in from Porto :) The standout items were the eggplant in yogurt sauce, cod croquettes (it was nice to have an upleveled version), oxtail, clam rice, and oddly the basil mousse for dessert(?!). The servers were so friendly and accommodating with our luggage. And the meal was pretty inexpensive considering how much we ordered.

Yelp
I'm so sad to be writing this as we had such high hopes for this spot after reading the excellent reviews. Our dinner here was very disappointing. We made a reservation well in advance and were promptly seated, but once seated the service was comically poor. We had to ask for water four times. When we ordered our food, our server told us he was out of several of the items we wanted to order (which was disappointing, but understandable). But then we saw other tables next to us getting those items who ordered around the same time we did. The food we were able to order wine fine, not great. The octopus was excellent, and I would highly recommend that. But the rice, kimchi, shrimp, chicken, and aubergine ranged from fine (but forgettable) to not good. Maybe it was just an off night. But this didn't even come close to living up to the hype. If you've got limited nights in Lisbon, I would skip.

Yelp
Incredible meal! We were lucky to get in without a reservation after about a 20-30min wait. It is a small spot with about 20-25 seats, making it feel so cozy and intimate. Please add this to your list when visiting Lisbon - you won't regret it!

Sarah D.

Yelp
The food was amazing and different. Make sure you have a reservation in advance or you might not get a seat. My favorite dishes were the orange salad and the bacalhau a bras (cod fish with potatoes and egg). It was a small restaurant and the menu seems to change, but I enjoyed tge intimate setting. The service was excellent and hopefully one day I can visit again and try other items on their menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food and service! We missed our train and wandered here by accident - big line and reservation is highly recommended. We were lucky to get in for lunch after waiting 15 minutes. Highlights were the saffron rice, eggplant and suckling pig. Adorable and simple interior and very kind staff. Highly recommend. Note - restaurant is quite small so do not recommend bringing suitcases if traveling by train.

Joe A.

Yelp
excellent food! Octopus was very flavorful and the cod a bras was delicious! Garlic ray had me sold!

Yelp
Literally one of our favorite meals on vacation. We loved just about everything that was brought to us. The flavors and the uniqueness of everything did us in. I would recommend this to everyone! We had reservations, and we were glad we did, it seemed to be very popular and very small! Make sure to come here for the best experience!
google avatar

Jacqueline C.

Yelp
Outstanding meal. Everything we ate was exceptional but some stand outs were the tomato miga (holy smokes- the flavor!), the smoked aubergine, the garlic prawns and the octopus on sweet potatoes. The white sangria was also truly delicious! Standout meal for us!
google avatar

Yelp
My Family and I were traveling in Lisbon for a couple days, I found this restaurant and it was very much so, Top 5 meals of my life! This restaurant was amazing, food was exquisite and very tasty! I truly enjoyed this experience and will definitely come back!
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
This was our second favorite restaurant in Portugal! (First was a 2-star Michelin restaurant.) We loved the food so much that we came back a second time! We had to order the octopus again and try all the other items we were curious about.
google avatar

Mindy Y.

Yelp
Best meal in Portugal! It's popular and we needed a weird off hour reservation but everything was delicious. My favorite dishes were the garlic prawns, portugese kimchi - not sure how some cabbage is almost the star of the show but it was sooooo good and filling and the pork belly with orange salad. The oxtail was also amazing. Every dish had a unique flavor and sauce or broth I wanted to lick the place. 10/10 1000% recommend! Staff super nice too
google avatar

Yelp
Super small place but it is amazing! We went to the door, the host said we could eat there but would need to leave within and hour and a half because he has a party. No problem! We had the aubergine, octopus, cod, fitters, pork belly, and the white sangria because it was really hot outside. And to be honest, everything was fantastic. The service was very attentive a fun atmosphere. I highly recommend this place if you're in Lisbon!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was excellent, octopus was amazing, paired with local wine and beer. Service was outstanding and ambiance was cozy in a traditional neighborhood near the river.

Yelp
This was one of my most-anticipated meals in Lisbon because everything sounded so delicious, and it ended up being a bit of an uneven experience. There were some hits and some misses, and in the end, we left a little unsatisfied. The baby fried squid were well-fried and well-seasoned, served with a nice aioli. The octopus with sweet potato was our favorite dish, with two small but nicely cooked octopus tentacles and a wonderful sweet potato mash all covered in a savory sauce. I would come back for the octopus for sure. The oxtail, however, was less successful. It was tender but pretty bland and flavorless. It desperately needed more salt and acid. The wild boar in brioche that was so raved about in reviews was also just okay. The boar didn't have very much flavor, and it mainly tasted like a bland pulled pork sandwich. I did appreciate that they served sangria for cheap. Definitely make a reservation if you want to come, as it's quite small and there's not many tables.

Teresa M.

Yelp
Food is authentic and you will dream about it seriously. Had the garlic shrimp, mushroom and coriander rice, baby squid. White sangria and a beer plus a basque cheesecake to round out our order. Please get a reservation if you want to try this stellar experience!
google avatar

Zain K.

Yelp
Came here alone on the final night of my Portugal trip, and ordered the octopus over sweet potato mash, a codfish cake, and a glass of vinho verde. Everything was excellent (including the service), and the food was rather filling. I only wish I'd discovered this place sooner! Highly recommended. (It's as popular as it is small, so you'll want/need a reservation.)
google avatar

Koreen D.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place by accident. We had a few hours to kill near the train station and saw that Sal Grosso was nearby so decided to check it out. Luckily got to snag a table without a reservation as we came before they opened and waited. Every single dish we got here was amazing! Honestly one of the best meals I had at Lisbon and loved how it's a hole in the wall and not overhyped. Just damn great cooking inside a lovely intimate space.

Rachel M.

Yelp
This was the best meal I had in my life. The octopus is amazing, the cod fritter are unbeatable and let me tell you, the eggplant is perfect! We loved this place and it was super cheap. If you are in Lisbon at all, go here over anything else. Best seafood and tapas in Lisbon.

Mike S.

Yelp
Made a reservation 6 weeks before. Tried to confirm the day before- no one answered email or call. Took Uber there to confirm time. Got called 2 hours later that power out- no dinner. When told that next day was our last in Lisbon, manager said he'll try to get us in next day- to email him, which I did (he had texted me their email). I got no response (again) to emails and several phone calls. I understand that things happen but the lack of communication is unacceptable.

Yelp
Tiny restaurant serving our best meal in Portugal! * * * EXPERIENCE * * * Please make a reservation - this place is tiny and opens at 8 and it filled up not long after opening while a long line was outside. There's only one server too and she was busy running around all night but service was super good - polite and informative. * * * FOOD * * * Cod Fish Confit: A Hands down the best cod fish we had in this trip - it was steamed then grilled on the outside, with some beans and vegetables underneath. The amount of saltiness was just about right, the texture was not too hard as cod fish tends to be, the flavor from the sauce completely soaked the fish... lovely. Dice Tuna: A- It's a bit on the salty side, with strong garlic and onion taste, very very tasty. I would say this is not my favorite style of how tuna was prepared however the flavor alone was wonderful, the pickle added special flavor to it. Stir Fried Pork: A Once I took a bite I could feel the fatty tissue soaked with the semi-charcoal-y, tomato kind of sauced, it's super crunchy on the outside too, with the green onion and pepper as supplement, it's very tasty. Fried Quail: A- The lean meat was very tender which it's hard to achieve, it's slightly on the sour and salty side, a lot of garlic was used. If you are a quail fan you will love this dish. Picked Rabbit: A I have never had cold rabbit dish before... the meat texture was similar to duck's, and since rabbit could be gamey they added some pomegranate to it which was clever, personally I don't have a problem with gamey meat but the balancing of the two elements was another level. Oxtail: A I believe it was somewhat red wine braised and the flavor completely dissolved into the meat, texture was super tender and the meat was fully separated from the bone, with a slightly grilled taste on the outside. Wonderful dish to close the night. With all these plus a nice bottle of wine, it cost only 68 euros. With excellent food and service and reasonable price, this place was hands down my favorite restaurant experience in Lisbon this time. I will definitely go back!

Ian M.

Yelp
Avoid this. Please. I caught food poisoning here a week ago that put me in the hospital. Had the steak tartare, bone marrow. Could have been a number of items. I wouldn't wish this on my enemy. Worst I've ever had in my life.

Yelp
Amazing little restaurant in Alfama neighborhood of Lisbon. All of the dishes we had were very delicious and authentic to Portugal. There restaurant is quite small, probably only 6-7 tables so definitely recommend making a reservation on their website if possible. Extremely friendly staff. Overall a must go!

Yelp
Straight Up.... you need reservations. My partner & myself, Twice, attempted to barge the doors for seating with no avail. The place smelled amazing. Seating is extremely limited. Next time. (sad face emoji). You still get 4 stars baby.

Yelp
We made a reservation and cake per the great ratings and were disappointed not even because of our expectations because there weren't any. What we ordered: 1) Codfish Confit 9.50€ 2) Stingray 8.50€ 3) Catch of the week 10€ 4) Codfish cake 7.50€ 5) Tomato and Fig salad 6.50€ I am not kidding but the tomato fig salad was the best dish we had here and the only dish we would order again. The service was not attentive and not really friendly. If you do have to choose one fish dish. The stingray had a white wine sauce that was nice. Rest assured was mediocre.
google avatar

Daisy Z.

Yelp
Family run business. Menu is on the board. Changes based on what's available. We ordered the lamb stew, smoked pork belly, corn bread and beans, fries, sting ray and squid rice. All were delicious. Sting ray was the least fav. For dessert, had bread pudding - yummy. They also brew their own beer - which was very good. After lunch, they brought a bottle of wine and brandy for us to partake and complete the meal. For a party of 4, the bill was about 49 Euros!! Really worth it. Delicious meal.

Yelp
Very small popular restaurant. Excellent food. Would recommend calling for reservations. Had the Bacalao O Braz (hope I spelled that right) and it was excellent.

Yelp
I feel like I went to Portugal solely to eat. I ate really well the whole time. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that this: this is the best meal of that whole trip. This place is tiny and it was incredibly busy when we got there. Like, I put my name down, my husband and I went for a walk, we came back, waited some more and almost gave up waiting kind of busy. But it was so worth the wait! By the time we sat down, I was ready to order the whole menu... And I didn't. But I definitely ordered way more than was appropriate for two people. Their menu changes everyday and is written on a chalkboard. We ordered the following: Tomato & fig salad - loved this nice mixture of acidic tomatoes, sweet figs and salty cheese. Inked cuttlefish - beautifully cooked and served with roasted potatoes and a tomato & parsley relish on top. Smoked pork belly - I love pork belly but tend to think people prepare it a little too carelessly because oftentimes, people don't make the effort to balance out its richness. That wasn't the case here. The pork belly was perfectly rendered, had a beautiful smokey flavor that wasn't overpowering and was complemented with a green salad with an acidic dressing that cut through the richness. Oxtail - Beautifully rich and an absolute dinner-ender (we had no room for dessert after this), their oxtail was tender and wonderful. Served with a couple of slices of what I think were pears, it was a great dish to end the night on. Overall, this is an intimate place I really appreciated. It was thoughtful and creative without being fussy. Despite the long wait, once we sat down the ambience was more akin a beloved neighborhood taberna than an exclusive stuffy restaurant. This was my 1 year anniversary dinner spot with my husband and I'm really glad we picked well. We thought it was all memorable and delicious.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in Lisbon! Really amazing spot. Definitely make an rsvp in advance and bring cash.

Yelp
I really don't have much to add to what's written already. This and its sister restaurant were recommended by the chefs at A Taberna do Mar, so we decided to go. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. My only problem was that I wanted to try everything on the menu. If you're going to go for dinner, know that you should try to get a reservation. And you should definitely try to get one at 7PM. Later than that and you're waiting for the first seating to finish up, which can take a while.

Alessandra C.

Yelp
Loved! Very small place, reservations are a must! Food was great... the highlight of dinner was the passion fruit crème brûlée. Andre, our server, was polite, attentive and very helpful. Definitely recommend.

Definitely one of our more enjoyable meals in Portugal. Service was a bit slow and disjointed but friendly. Every dish was good no disappointments at all but the standouts were definitely the sting ray ( not even a huge fan of fish ) and the pork belly. Reservations are a must since the space is so small, saw multiple people turned away.

Yelp
Remember to get a reservation as there is not much seating in the restaurant. The line is well formed 40 minutes before the place opens for dinner service. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. We tried many of the items on the menu and all were very delicious. Favorites were the shellfish and seafood. Made friends with the couple sitting next to us as well

Yelp
This is such a great restaurant. You really need a reservation, though we lucked out and got a table due to someone else's cancellation. The menu is written on the wall. Each dish was surprising, without being fussy. Everything was prepared perfectly. I almost forgot to add - and the prices were totally reasonable!

Yelp
Literally up the street from Santa Apolonia station, this was one of the memorable meals on my trip as it fit into the "cozy neighbourhood-y" restaurants category. Food was great, service was sweet, & prices were reasonable! One server's English wasn't the best, but no big deal. The roasted chicken dish was very well-marinated and I had the pork cheek which tasted like beef brisket - very tender! It dark gravy though was a tad on the salty side. Like most places in Lisbon, fries were very good! I'd definitely go back as it met all my requirements for places that I enjoy dining at when I'm travelling. :)

Yelp
The food is delicious and fresh. Small dishes so you can try everything. The staff had great recommendations. We loved the cheese/bread/olives, tuna was fabulous, broccolini, beef cheeks, salad, octopus. We came here multiple times to try new dishes. At the end they give you a bottle of port wine and Ginja to finish off your meal.

Yelp
Authentic Lisbon cuisine - We came here on a Friday lunchtime Friday they were fully they told us to come back at 2 PM when we came back people were starting to wrap up the bills and there were a few tables available. If you want to snag a table try arriving later on lunch seatings and earlier on dinner seatings ! The food was delicious, my favorite were the cod fish cakes and the clam rice!

Yelp
Words cannot do this place justice. I am always skeptical of places that have 5 full stars and few reviews, but Taberna Sal Grosso exceeds all expectations and delivers so much more. This will be a restaurant staple that I will continue to think about for a long time. If you find yourself in Lisbon you have to make eating here a priority. I promise that it will deliver on every level. Whether it's the house wine, the fresh catch of the day, the perfectly prepared side dishes, or the unbelievable deserts Taberna Sal Grosso will become one of those experiences you will think about when you want to remember why Lisbon is such a special city. All I can say is it will be the biggest mistake of your entire trip to not make a genuine effort to eat here.
