My mom and I had SO. MUCH. FUN at our Tablespoon Cooking Co. class! I decided to let her pick out a class for her Christmas gift and we landed on "A Night in New Orleans"... because what better way to spend Fat Tuesday?
First of all, I love the story of how this place came to be. Jordan, the owner, went to culinary school and was a corporate chef before deciding to create Tablespoon Cooking Co. While she didn't teach our class, her passion for cooking and teaching was very apparent.
They started by basically handing us a beignet and a glass of wine when we walked in -- can you think of a better greeting? Though we didn't cook the beignets ourselves, they offered a recipe (and the option of comparing the homemade version to a box of Cafe du Monde mix -- spoiler alert: the homemade is always better!)
The remainder of the class was hands-on as we tackled Chef Catrina's -- a New Orleans native -- gumbo. I loved the authenticity of her recipe, tips and stories. She was extremely personable and knowledgeable. Midway through class, they offered us Pimm's Cup -- a fancy cocktail that quickly became my new fave. The best part was all wine and drinks were COMPLIMENTARY, which is basically unheard of at other local cooking classes.
Another perk was that you are actually encouraged to bring plastic containers to take home your leftovers. This is because they have a separate license (since they also cater), which is also unlike other local cooking classes. Heck YAS.
My mom and I left with full stomachs, new recipes, and tons of leftovers. We're already discussing what our next class will be! Thanks for the fun evening, Jordan, Catrina, and team!
