The 19 Best Restaurants in Cairo, Egypt | Eater

"A tablia is a low, round table, commonly found in rural areas of Egypt; often a gathering place for family dinners, it’s a symbol of community. Evoking traditions of the matriarchs who serve their families at tablias, this small, inconspicuous restaurant, nestled in one of the many alleyways of Downtown Cairo, is owned and operated by home cook Samar, her mother, two sisters, and aunt. The menu changes daily, usually decided just a day before or early the same morning, providing just enough time for the quintet to purchase fresh ingredients and prepare meals before the doors open at 4:00 p.m. You can call in the afternoon to ask about the menu, or, like most customers, simply arrive and prepare to be surprised (and well-fed). This is about as close to home-cooked Egyptian food as visitors are likely to experience." - Laila Hassaballa

A Hidden Gem in Cairo! We had an amazing time eating here. The soups are phenomenal! We came at around 9pm. The restaurant is tucked away in a small alley, it is kinda private and quiet. We felt peaceful and relaxed eating here, and we were also having authentic Egyptian foods, which was a rare experience during our trip in Egypt.

If you’re looking for true, authentic Egyptian food done right, this place is a must-visit. Every dish reflects real local flavors, cooked with care and high-quality ingredients that you can taste from the first bite. Nothing feels rushed or commercial — it’s genuine Egyptian cuisine the way it’s meant to be. The food is rich, well-seasoned, and perfectly balanced, whether you’re trying classic favorites or traditional dishes you don’t find everywhere. Portions are generous, freshness is obvious, and everything feels homemade yet professionally prepared. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service adds to the experience with genuine hospitality. It’s the kind of restaurant that makes you proud of Egyptian food and culture. Highly recommended for both locals and visitors who want authentic Egyptian flavors with top-level quality.

We had a great meal here!!! We found it on google, and saw that it was an authentic experience, good food, and women-owned so we wanted to try. Service was good, food was amazing and really good portions. Would definitely recommend!

Chose this place due to the good reviews and I'm glad we ate here. The place is decorated nicely, mainly locals were eating here. It is run by a family and the cooking tasted simply delicious. There is the cutest family of street cats in that alley and we were glad to see, that the owners left some leftovers for them. Highly recommended! 👍🏻

It was a very good experience. The food changes daily according to the menu of the day; there is no fixed menu. The food tasted homemade because it was truly prepared by Egyptian women. The service was excellent, as the same people who cooked the food were also serving. And at the end, they served us complimentary tea. The prices were a bit high, but the food was very clean and fresh.
