The 38 Best Restaurants in Tokyo, Japan | Eater

"Yamaharu, one of the top seasonal seafood wholesalers at Toyosu Market, has opened its first restaurant in the Toranomon Hills T-Market. Uogashi Yamaharu is a casual stand-and-eat, or tachigui sushi, shop that is fun for both solo diners and small groups. Lunch is an excellent value and popular with locals. If you want to linger, come for dinner and order sake and a few otsumami small bites to start off, such as monkfish liver or cod milt, before finishing with seasonal sushi. Know before you go: Order by tapping on a tablet." - Yukari Sakamoto

If you’re looking for incredible sushi stop here. I was skeptical about the idea of standing and eating (clearly a foreigner’s novice mistake). This place made me forget I was on my feet the whole time. Melt in your mouth nigiri! First time I’ve had a hand roll handed to me by the chef who made it and then of course I put it directly in my mouth and devoured it. Soooooooo good!! I’m drooling looking at the photos again and reminiscing about how incredible this sushi is. Worth the wait if there’s a line. Highly recommend.

The sushi here was incredible, especially the prawn and tuna (didn’t take many pictures, but that prawn was the best I’ve had). It’s also quite affordable for the quality of sushi! The staff was extremely friendly as well and the location is in a fun and vibrant food hall that is a bit tucked away in the basement level of a skyscraper. It’s order as you go. The only thing to mention here is its 100% standing bar, so if you don’t like standing and eating the whole time, I wouldn’t come here as you’ll be upset about it, but if you don’t mind that, this place is well worth it! Highly recommend and cannot wait to come back when in Tokyo!

Came twice already and thinking to come back every time that I am in Tokyo. One of the best sushi i ever have. Fresh ingredients, good vibe and tasty sake!

We loved the sushi at this place so much we went twice in the first leg of our Japan trip and may go back just one more time before we leave. Every piece of sushi is perfectly flavorful from the seasoned rice to adding sauces and other toppings to make the perfect bite. The ordering experience was great as it’s just an iPad with all of the options and you can continuously order. The sushi chefs are friendly and recognized us when we came back for the second time. It’s a small counter without chairs but the food was so good you’ll forget you were standing

Best sushi I’ve ever had in my life hands down. Also got to be in the top 10 meals I’ve ever had. The rice was so perfectly flavoured and balanced with the fish. The staff were warm and welcoming and happy to recommend sake pairings for your food. I hope I’m lucky enough to return one day

Outrageously good value on the ¥1700 8-piece lunch, moreso than the ¥2700 11-piece lunch pictured here. In any case, this is the best sushi you’ll try at this price point, and is a sweet spot for casual everyday dining. The tachigui concept of Nemuro Hanamaru tastes sad in comparison, while the same concept from Onodera costs twice as much without giving twice the pleasure. Obviously, there are limitations at this price point. The half-sliced hotate was too thin and the primary sensation was a mouthful of rice. The iwashi was too strongly marinated and took on a “cooked” texture from the vinegar. And the anago was kinda dry. But really, I’ll return again and again, because there’s nothing else providing this same quality and value compromise.

An excellent standing sushi bar with many options and sushi prepared right in front of you. The restaurant’s sushi was absolutely delicious! The fish all tasted fresh and was prepared well. There are many different options if you wish to order a la carte or you can go with one of the omakase style sets which were around at 3500-4500 yen when I attended. There are many different types of fish to choose from so you will not have a hard time finding something that suits your palette. One thing to note is the chef who was preparing our dishes used more wasabi in the dishes than many other sushi restaurants. This did not negatively impact my experience but may be something to note if you’re sensitive to spicy foods. The menu also has a good amount of side of drink options. They do seem to sell out of some items quickly, so you may want to attend earlier in the day if you’re interested in a specific popular dish. You order from a tablet at a standing bar which has English translations. The sushi is prepared and placed on a plate in front of you and the chef will call out what fish each piece contains. The name of each piece was usually called out in Japanese. This can be difficult to determine which piece was which if you’re not familiar with the Japanese names. The food was prepared quickly with no detriment to the quality of the food. This restaurant is credit card only. It is also a little difficult to find. It is located on B1 tucked away towards the back corner of the tower station food hall. You will walk past multiple bars are restaurants before finding it!

If u have a toddler who takes naps and you still want to get an omakase experience in Japan , this type of standing sushi bar that is classy is really the only and best choice you have . My toddler is just snoozing and my wife and I got serve an omakase that was amazing ! Speaking for all parents who travel with small kids but most sushi places don’t take toddler . We went there for lunch , had rare food like mantis shrimp, sword fish , otoro , and a 10 piece omakase - paid 30 cad each which is pretty reasonable .
