31 Glorious Chinese Restaurants to Try

"This carryout restaurant has been delighting Staten Islanders for nearly five decades in Manor Heights, just west of Todt Hill. The charcuterie often comes with thick sauce (the roast pork is a fave), but perhaps the best dish on the menu is Singapore curried noodles, which packs quite a wallop of heat. A highly recommended spot; eat nearby in one of the borough’s Greenbelt parks." - Robert Sietsema

NYC Chinese Food Delivery: Restaurants Still Open During Coronavirus | Eater NY

"This carryout and delivery-only wonder has been delighting Staten Islanders for 45 years in its somewhat obscure location in Manor Heights just west of Todt Hill. The charcuterie often comes with thick sauce (the roast pork is a fave), but perhaps the best dish on the menu is Singapore curried noodles (shown), which unexpectedly packs quite a wallop of heat. A highly recommended spot in an unexpected place. Order online." - Robert Sietsema

Google
We came here for take out. We have been coming here for a long time. We ordered take out as there’s no seating. The person who took out order had a hard time understanding. Food was given promptly and when we brought it home , it was piping hot. We ordered chicken Lo mein, yang chow fried rice and combined platter with beef &broccoli. Chicken lo mein was not over sauces but chicken was dry. Yang chow fried rice was too salty from the last time we had it. Combination platter- beef was chewy , broccoli was cooked well. Egg roll was doughy and not the crispy type. This time , everything we had was tasting different but not for the better….

Google
Placed a huge order. Most of the food was OK. However the “jumbo” shrimp in lobster sauce is clearly an overcompensation. Very disappointed in this dish.

Been going downhill lately. Ive been.ordering here for years. Always get soup, spring roll, & veggie fried rice. Always great. However last 3x I ordered something different - 2x Seasame Noodle and 1x Veggie Chow Fun. Food was not good. Not fresh tasting. Mushy. I took one bite of Veggie Chow Fun and it was awful. There was 5 Slivers of carrots, 2 piecies of overcooked mushy broccoli, and no other veggies. The seasame noodles the same. Mushy no flavor. Ugh. It looks like its going in the same direction that Crown Palace went. So disappointing. I still feel sick from eating the Veggie Chow Fun . I guess Ill be eating Fritos and Ruffles for dinner.

Raw chicken in dumplings. Ordered delivery. Other food was fine/good.

Google
There's no rave on the fried rice. Over drenched in soy sauce, no flavor. How can anyone say the rice taste good? Sorry, that went to the compost can.

Google
Tacks has had my heart since i lived in SI. I remember saving up to get a lunch special of general tso's and pork fried rice and eating it up faster than you can say scrumlicious! Tacks is still family owned and operated from what i can tell (and they work hard), flying in from the west coast to eat a childhood guilty pleasure of mind did not dissapoint. Best local chinese takeout place in staten island bar none.

Google
What a bitter sweet ending to a brisk fall day. After a long relaxing walk in the trails of Staten Island, one could work up an appetite or two! That’s when we were shadowed with a lovely lake side restaurant with lovely decor that lured us all in! After settling in, we couldn’t help but notice that we were about to spend a pretty penny on dinner! What shall we do!? It’s only Thursday and payday hasn’t even arrived yet! That’s when Tacks Chinese Restaurant was brought to our attention. Having eaten here once before I knew this was the choice for us. For roughly $85 we were more than satisfied and Tacks didn’t miss a beat! From the mouth watering chicken wings to the crispy noodles with sweet duck sauce. I highly recommend this to everyone on Staten Island. Everyone was able to have their own fortune cookie after as well. Did I mention they now take Credit Card in store as well! Score!!!!! i will definitely be ordering from them again! 10/10!

Google
I just gotten three orders of the sesame chicken, chicken fried rice, and egg rolls for a party of 5. It was great!! Definitely recommend!!

Yelp
Best food in the area. I would not buy from anywhere else. Food is always hot even when delivering. Staff is friendly and courteous.

Yelp
The service and food was good. The pork fried rice didn't taste like normally it does. I recommend this takeout. I really liked the service.

Yelp
It's okay nothing to write home about. My husband said the beef and broccoli tasted fishy so he didn't like it

Yelp
Been coming here since highschool for over 20 years. In our opinion the best Chinese Food spot on the island. Food is always fresh & taste good. Their fried rice is the best. Very accommodating with food orders. Highly recommend this spot.

Yelp
I used to eat at Tack's two, three sometimes even more times a week. Never had a bad dish or bad attitude. He, his wife and all his children have always been pleasant and friendly to say the least. After he sold the place I tried it and it was noticeable different, I/we ( the family ) gave them a few more tries and it got progressively worse. I can't even look at the storefront when I go to A&C. All they had to do was keep the quality and recipes, but everyone thinks they can make a better wheel. Don't bother trying, disappointment is all you'll get here. I used to eat at Tack's two, three sometimes even more times a week. Never had a bad dish or bad attitude. Yelp
I ordered the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Orange Beef and Wonton Soups. Everything was devoured completely! We were all delightedly "Mmm"ing. The Wonton soup was dark I never saw it like that before and it was a nice variation. The flavours remind me of the old chop suey houses that are disappearing nowadays. The Delivery was prompt and the person called and came upstairs. I highly recommend Tacks after this first experience, I look forward to my next order.

Yelp
This is the 3rd Chinese spot I have try here on Staten Island and this will be my only spot in ordering food. I loved their fry rice although it was a bit on the greasy side but it was so good I didn't mind the grease lol the chicken wings could've been better on the flavor but way better then other Chinese spot I had on the island lol. Delivery was quick as well and I loved that they send tea bags!

Kayla R.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in the neighborhood!! If you want take out this is the place to go.

Jean F.

Yelp
Very disgusting food. The owners try to get every penny out of you. They are awful. I ordered food without vegetables but wanted the vegetables put into something else but they could NoT do it. The are full of crap The original Tacks restaurant was much better
google avatar

Millicent L.

Yelp
Good Chinese food. They have new owners so the taste is a little different from when I first started ordering here but it still pretty tasty. The pork fried rice is a must try.

Yelp
*Update 2018* I haven't been here in months. However, since my last encounter, the quality of the food has diminished significantly. Since this establishment is now under new ownership, the food & service is no longer the same. Very unfortunate....previous owners ran the business well in the past. I would no longer recommend.

Jacqueline R.

Yelp
Food is fine, but the prices are exorbitant. I ordered a small order of spare ribs and they charges me $9.50 for 4 ribs? and $6.75 for a small pork fried rice. Can I call the police cause I just got robbed!
google avatar

Yelp
This is what I had: Yang Chow fried rice Qt. $8.75 Boneless Chicken (breaded) w. Veggies in brown sauce $10.50 Chicken Soup w. Mai Fun noodles $5.65 The attentive and friendly clerk served my friend and I 2 steamed dumplings that the cooks had just finished preparing as a welcome to the restaurant gesture. She also greeted the next customer by surname! Now if only the sit-down joints around SI had such good service... This is my reaction: The fried rice was made with white meat chicken, ham, and shrimp - cooked without soy sauce so it was low sodium, and white in color. Excellent dish! There were 2 breaded and fried chicken breasts served on a bed of sauteed veggies in a lightly sweet brown sauce. Yummy! The soup's bland taste was more a testament to the fresh ingredients and lack of MSG. I won't complain, but you could always add some soy sauce if you need it. I will be trying out the rest of their menu in the future. I'm glad I found this place. Cash only. It's take out only but you may have guessed that from their name. Delivery Hours differ as noted: Tues-Fri 5pm-10pm Sat-Sun 1pm-10pm

Yelp
Just bought chicken and broccoli with pork fried rice. This food was soo spicy it left my mouth burning. The pork fried rice was a dark brown color and tasted awful. Every other place that I get pork fried rice from the rice is always yellow. I have never tasted chicken and broccoli that is spicy.

Yelp
Tack had the best food on SI two weeks after new owners took over it went down hill .miss tack and his family. I wonder where Tack would order from Now?

Yelp
It's as GREAT as advertised!! I came all the way here from Jersey because of all the hype and rave reviews it has received. It has been a staple of Staten Island for years and I heard from several locals that it was the best chinese take out not only in Staten Island, but in all of New York. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken, which is what they're known for, and it was amazing. The General Tso's Chicken was perfectly crisp and juicy. I also had their chicken fried rice, which was cooked perfectly with white meat chicken. The place was clean, the service was excellent, and the food was to die for. I can honestly say, this has been the best take out experience I've ever had.
google avatar

Reesa A.

Yelp
No!!!! New ownership! The food is not nearly as good. This breaks my heart after growing up on tacks.

Christine N.

Yelp
THE BEST PEPPER STEAK WITH OINION... I substituted the steak for chicken . It was DELICIOUS !!!!!! Order that AND the beef on a stick . And the hot n sour soup . Amazing .
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
The quality has gone down drastically since the new management. Food quality dropped severely and they just pack a ton of rice and very little meat/veg. Sad to see such a neighborhood classic turn into
google avatar

Christina B.

Yelp
Gross. Delivery was quite late. Pan-fried dumplings were burnt. Not just dark, burnt. Egg rolls were tough and tasteless. Boneless pork was extremely dry pork loin, like shoe leather. Spicy broccoli was greasy, more oil than sauce. The mister's wonton soup was tasty, and the bone-in ribs were pretty decent. But I have a terrible stomachache and those two can't make up for all the bad. No chance of repeat service.
google avatar

Yelp
THE BEST CHINESE ON STATEN ISLAND. Period. End of Story. Tack, himself, is a doll. I've never had a greasy egg roll, my favorite, for him ever. I don't know how he does it, but they come out dry and not covering the bag in oil. The General Tso's chicken is crisp and spicy. Bold spicy. You can ask him to make it less spicy, but don't. It's perfection. Everything and anything on the menu is awesome. And I'm really happy he never added friend chicken wings and french fries like some places have. THATS NOT CHINESE! Take out only, by the way!
google avatar

Jonny M.

Yelp
Awesome! They open kinda late, but the place is always booming and I am always happy with the selection. Take out or delivery only, can be busy at times, but worth the wait! M Goi!
google avatar

Maryann G.

Yelp
Best Chinese food on the island!!! Super clean too, the old owners made sure the restaurant stayed in the same condition and always stop by to check on them so you can expect the same quality of food!
google avatar

Marvin P.

Yelp
Best Chinese food ever. I am from Brooklyn and i am use to Chinese food restaurants serving chicken wings and french fries, but when i cam here, i was in for a surprise. Its not your average Chinese food . Its flavorful, plentiful and the service is great. Its pricey but definitely worth it. I wish i lived in Staten island because i would come here every day. When the owner sees me, he remembers that i am from Brooklyn and he is very friendly. His wife and daughter are also very nice people. If you can, eating here is a must!!!!!!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
No idea what ever happen to this place used to order all the time from them but the food has been very salty lately and just doesn't taste the same... my family has been ordering food from them for years and honestly we don't really want to anymore... fast delivery is a plus I guess
google avatar

Yelp
Easily the best chinese takeout on Staten Island. The service is quick and there's something comforting about always calling and hearing Tack's pleasant "okayyy," when you call. If you like spicy food, Tack's is the best at catering to spice levels, just use the"X" system when ordering. Now, I like my food spicy so I'll order my food and ask for 1x. (Pronounced "one x"). I've tried two and it's just too hot to enjoy an entire dish. I imagine 3x is for devotees of man cs food challenges and iron stomach linings. My go to dishes are the chicken chow fun, beef & broccoli, pork fried rice, and barbecue spare ribs. My wife loves the sesame chicken too. The only star deduction is for the cash only policy which can be inconvenient.
google avatar

Audrina K.

Yelp
Are people crazy...??! Anything less than 4stars is pretty ridiculous here. I grew up on Tacks take out and I can boldly say that everything here is delish and fresh. I can pick something randomly off the menu and even if I have to take the water chestnuts or celery out, I know it's going to taste good. Everything here is tasty but here are the recommendations: Tacks fried rice is one of a kind -a must try! Garlic chicken Beef Chow fun Singapore noodles Hot and sour soup Eggplant with garlic sauce And last but definitely thee best of all is the crab with garlic sauce! I know many family members who drive out of state just to get their crab!! Myself included here. Do yourself a favor and don't blame me when you find yourself getting the cravings for Tacks takeout!

William P.

Yelp
Surprisingly many people in there waiting on their order. This is NOT the Tack's I used to know. The food has been downgraded and obvious short cuts taken. I haven't been here for a while and decided to try it again when I passed by. The chicken dish I ordered was subpar. What happened to this place? I will not return.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
I was very disappointed with the food after all the great reviews. The food was very bland, I will not be coming here again. The owner (I think) working the counter was very funny and friendly. I wish the food was better because it is close and the service was great. I ordered sesame chicken (w/fried rice), egg drop soup with wontons and egg rolls. The chicken was very good; rice was not (though it looked like it would be) it was very bland no taste at all. The egg drop soup tasted like gooey water, the wontons were also not very tasty. The egg rolls were ok, but not too much too them and too much cabbage.
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
Food is okay. Not the ranting and raving everyone says it is. Beware!! The large portions are actually normal Tupperware sizes. 10 dollars for a Tupperware size "large portion" they need to stop being cheap with that hefty 9.95.

Andrew M.

Yelp
The food is very good and is a bang for your buck! Highly recommend. I've ordered from other takeouts before, and it hasn't been as good as this. I also love the people who run this place. Very friendly service and it feels very family run. Would come back again!
google avatar

Lori L.

Yelp
I like this place for two reasons. One mainly because the food has never disappointed me. Always delicious and secondly the main lady that answers the phone is the nicest politest person ever!! She's just such a pleasure to speak to when ordering your food. Thank you for the excellent costumer service!
google avatar

Ammu K.

Yelp
Though it's been years since I've ordered from here, Tack's was definitely the place to get your Chinese food in Staten Island. Tack himself is a really nice guy, and it's a family owned business. Many times when we would go to get food, his kids would be studying behind the counter, or his wife was taking the orders. Great food, although the prices started to climb throughout the years. Definitely great when you ask them to "spice up" dishes. Definitely check it out!
google avatar

E J.

Yelp
I order from this place all the time bc the food is great and the place is clean. For some odd reason tonight they don't take Credit Cards. They were also very rude about it. They will never get my money again. They are officially banned from my call log
google avatar

Krissie B.

Yelp
A few months back, this place had the absolute best Chinese food. I would tell everyone that would listen that their chicken and broccoli was pure perfection: the thin sliced chicken, perfect amount of sauce and the SAUCE!! Perfectly flavored and the right consistency. I have eaten chicken and broccoli before that had gelatinous and salty sauce but Tack's sauce was a dream. I noticed about 2 months ago, the chicken and broccoli becoming flavorless and oily. I figured it was a fluke and wrote it off to a bad day until the next time I ate it and it tasted even worse. I swore that was it for Tack's. Tonight my husband went and picked it up while I was napping and when I took a bit of the chicken and broccoli it was flavorless and oily, the fried rice had no flavor except for a faint hint of horse stable and tell me how even white rice can taste awful? Two bites and I was gagging. In the trash, the food went! What a waste of $30! It's a shame because the people who work there are so nice and the food was excellent.

Kelly K.

Yelp
Have been ordering from for over 15 years. Always order the same thing, crispy chicken, spare ribs and fried wontons. Over the past 6 months it's not the same. The food is always delivered cold soggy or to hard to bite into and tasting like fish. We keep ordering hoping it was a fluke. Sorry to say after 15 years will never be ordering from here again. -6 hunter place

Peter M.

Yelp
Great food and very friendly staff. The delivery drivers get the food to you within 45 mins. Highly recommend ordering from them.

Yelp
Im going to let you staten island imbeciles in on a little secret. when ur done injecting steroids into your rear ends, tanning, and your daily chest, traps, and biceps workout (god forbid you throw a leg day in there once in a blue moon), get over to Tacks. i grew up on Tacks food and he is quite simply the man. I was a regular here for about 10 years when i was living in the third circle of hell, i mean staten island. I still make the pilgrimage from Brooklyn every couple months or so. I would go way more often but what my doctor lovingly refers to as "the worst case of hemorrhoids I've ever seen" and the spicy nature of the bbq beef on a stick just dont mix. if you hold the take out container to your ear you might just hear my howls from the bathroom. You may think it a cruel twist of fate that i am unable to eat my favorite thing on earth and i agree. Its just one way god tortures my very existence. Back to Tacks. Heres the thing. I have always only ordered one thing. ALWAYS. Are your shrunken testes ready for this??? BBQ Beef Skewers. I have lost count over the amount of people that have died over one taste of this appetizer. it has this crust that forms from the deep fryer that will just blow you and your wonderful biceps away. its perfectly sized and perfectly seasoned. if you are still reading this and not heading over there to verify , kill yourself you are a loser. i have known Tack and his family for a decade and he still wont give me the recipe. he holds me hostage with my addiction. my greatest fear is that something happens to this man and my beef will be gone. give me the damn recipe tack quit playing around. p.s. when u order the beef say you want it the way mike gets its. its a special little tweak Tack does for me. He'll know what to do.

Robert G.

Yelp
We occasionally ordered from Tacks. Food was good and owner was friendly. However, I really learned the difference between friendliness based on respect and a simple facade. We ordered take-out. While eating, something very hard in the food cracked a back tooth. I was so p----d when it happen, but approached the owner in reasonable way, explained what happened and showed him what was in the food - it looked like a pebble-hard piece of spice ( a guess, but I'm sure he recognized it). He looked at whatever it was far too long, dropped it to the floor, stepped on it and said " that's nothing". Then he mumbled something about it's my problem not his. Wondering how he lived this long with those spice-pebbles and that attitude, I calmly said that I was hoping he could pay (or his insurance) for whatever the damage. Tack's silence said it all.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Best Chinese Takeout on the island so far, General Tao is excellent and so is the Beef fried rice. Will be my go to place for now.
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE TACKS. Last night I came here for dinner. This the only Chinese food I eat & I'm serious. Tack is such a good hearted person & he remembers everyone of his customers & I bet that along with the great tasting food keeps them coming back. His wife & daughter are good hearted & kind too. Anything on the menu is good, kinda pricer than your average corner Chinese food place but you will not be disappointed . Try Tacks & you will never regret
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
My family ordered take-out last night I got a Roast Pork Yat Gaw Mein, 2 Roast Pork LoMein (larges) and a small Wonton soup The price (close to $30) was high but that is to be expected The food was nothing spectacular but I've tasted worse The restaurant needs a good scrubbing & an update Make sure when ordering you ask for Duck sauce, soy sauce, tea, chow Mein noodles We didn't ask for them thinking cause we ordered 3 soups, noodles & sauce would be included Nope, they wasn't The food also took over an hour to get & we picked it up Taks is a hit or miss depending on the day

Alyssa P.

Yelp
I'm not a fan of Chinese food, but this place is so good. The food is great and isn't greasy like a lot of Chinese food restaurants. The owner is so nice and funny. It has been my third time ordering from them and every meal so far has been great. I try not to order the same thing twice so I can get a feel for the menu, but I'm in love with their BBQ Beef skewers. Last night he ran out, but not to fear the owner offered chicken BBQ skewers instead, and they were just as good. My one complaint, and trust me it's not big at all, he gives such big portions of meat but only two pieces of broccoli. I know the horror, but I love my veggies.
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
My number one pick on Staten Island! Tack is there every night. He takes pride in his food which is something lacking almost everywhere else. SPICY lovers look no further. Tack will make it as spicy as you like (or less too). Crispy chicken is incredible.

Interrupting P.

Yelp
We used to love this place and ordered for years. We just ordered 3 dishes and we didn't finish the food and were unfortunately tossing the leftovers. I have the distinct feeling this chicken dish was reheated, the chicken had an "old" taste to it like it's been saved and reheated from a day or more ago, it's hard to explain but it tastes "old". Same thing with the Mei fun, it tastes like leftovers. I also have a tingling in my tongue that only comes from msg, Tack's specifically used to not use msg in their food. This place has gone so far downhill that I def won't be eating here again and tbh, Id be willing to guess they won't be in business much longer with much better options in the area. Sad, we used to love this place, but when food comes that tastes like it wasn't even cooked fresh ... what are we doing here?
google avatar

Alvin L.

Yelp
Just tried their Chicken with snowpeas...very disappointed. Instead of complaining about the bland white sauce, there's a bigger issue. It should really be called water chestnuts with snowpeas because there were more water chestnuts than chicken and snowpeas combined! Over half of the container was water chestnuts, would never order this again.
google avatar

Crystal L.

Yelp
There is only 3 chinese food restaurants that are good and Tack's is the best out of the three. I'm from brooklyn and when moving to staten island I couldn't believe how horrible the chinese food was here. I've tried numerous chinese restaurants and they were all horrible, so finding Tack's is definitely a gem. If you want really spicy food, tell Tack and you will probably will be shooting flames out of your mouth. So be cautious when asking for really spicy food. Food is very tasty and not greasy at all. You will definitely thank me for trying this place. His brown sauce is extremely flavorful. Enjoy everyone!
google avatar

Hank D.

Yelp
Consistently good, well-flavored take out. Staff are friendly and lunch specials are ready within 5 minutes. The chicken and broccoli has great flavor, sauce, comes with white rice and your choice of small appetizer, like wonton soup which is great- for $6.50+tax. The chicken or its sauce is a little greasy- maybe they can lighten that up a bit.
