Best Restaurants in Beacon Hill in Boston | Eater Boston

"Satisfy your cravings for queso and birria at this airy Mexican restaurant. Flavors like Baja shrimp, grilled skirt steak, and sweet potato can be found in taco form or within loaded salad and rice bowls. Notable beverages include a flight of popsicle and prosecco cocktails and a selection of nonalcoholic margarita dupes." - Celina Colby

Best Tacos in Boston, According to Eater Editors | Eater Boston

"Shrimp is a pretty fantastic vehicle for al pastor, as the folks at Beacon Hill newcomer Taco Azul demonstrate. The shrimp al pastor arrives with a drizzle of creamy avocado crema, a pile of cabbage slaw, and two ripe sticks of pineapple, all balanced on a blue corn tortilla. (Batches of the tortillas are made daily at the restaurant.)" - Erika Adams

Taco Azul is a total gem. There isn't anything on the menu that you can go wrong with. Relaxed vibes, lovely drinks, vibrant, pretty, delicious and super satisfying food - what more can one wish for? Just about everything I got was totally delectable and it hit the spot perfectly. I don't expect usually tacos to be pretty, but the tacos here look as attractive and scrumptious, as they are delicious! What a fun spot!

Google
Restaurant well located (in the city center, and close to public transport stops). The restaurant is big and a nice atmosphere. I recommend this place if you celebrate a birthday. The staff was friendly.

Google
Food was fast and cooked to perfection. The tortillas come out warm and fresh. We had just about every taco they had, you can't go wrong with any of them. Service was fast and friendly. Loved every bit of this place. Get the churros, you won't be upset.

Google
I visited this restaurant after reading all these 5-star reviews. The tacos were mid, and the size of a toddler's hand - each costs $7. Quesadillas were soggy and a drop of guac was on it as a decoration. Shrimp taco had 2 tiny shrimps! I won't be recommending this place to anyone.

Google
Our last stop in Boston was Taco Azul, and it was the perfect spot to have a light dinner before heading out of town! We had a spot on the patio because it was a sublime July afternoon! Michel was super helpful, especially with some modifications for a friend with some serious food allergies. Tacos are traditional and small, but your can get as many as you want and you can mix and match to try a few kinds or get multiples of your fave! My fave was the shrimp Al pastor, but the carnitas was a table favorite. Enjoy!

Google
Tacos were honestly a little underwhelming considering the price. It felt like a Bar taco knock off, minus the flavor. Only tacos we liked were the Fish taco & beef taco. Could be convinced to come back for drinks. Otherwise paying for location

Google
Great tacos and margaritas (get the spicy cucumber!). The guacamole is delicious. This place has friendly staff, a clean establishment, and overall nice atmosphere. A tad pricey but it’s very comparable to other restaurants in the area. Will definitely be coming back!

Google
we came here a few nights ago... loved the place... great atmosphere, great decor, great food, great service, very friendly... walked in w/o reservation and they accomodated us... food was so good we had two extra tacos (blue corn tortillas hence the business name)... we would love the place even more if the tortillas were 1-2 inches wider... the quesadilla is great as is... we will be back.

Yelp
Taco Azulín is a masterclass in *grand simplicity*--a place where every detail is carefully considered, yet nothing feels overdone. From the moment my husband, teenage son and I walked in (a full hour before our reservation), the staff welcomed us without hesitation, accommodating us seamlessly despite a bustling lunch service. That level of hospitality set the tone for an unforgettable meal. We targeted what they said they did well, "guac, tacos, margs," and it didn't disappoint. The guacamole was vibrant, creamy, and served with warm, lightly salted blue-corn chips. Then came the tacos: the fish taco was delicate and crispy, the shrimp al pastor packed a smoky-sweet punch, and the beef birria was rich with flavor. The tortillas were freshly made and structurally sound. The margaritas are reason enough to visit. The Taco Azul margarita was flawlessly balanced, and the Smoky Pineapple Margarita was a revelation: subtly smoky, refreshingly tropical, and dangerously smooth. Adjacent to our party of three, was a table of 8 young professionals (college reunion-vibe), a family with two young kids, and a cocktail mixing class at the back bar. For being so new, Taco Azul has their act together. Taco Azul excels in delivering bold, fresh flavors with an effortless ease in a beautiful setting that few places have achieved. Five stars, without a doubt!

Yelp
We walked in and our reservation somehow was not in their system. The two individuals at the front desk quickly found us a spot at the bar and ten minutes later offered a table for two but the bar was great so we elected to stay. The interior is beautiful, clean, and very modern, plus the music was great! The food was delicious and the drinks were even better. We enjoyed the rice and beans, guacamole, and I had the chipotle chicken, crispy shrimp, and fried avocado taco. Everything was fresh and delicious. What really took our experience over the top was they took care of our chips and Guac for the inconvenience of the reservation not appearing in their system. We will absolutely be back!

Yelp
Overall this place is what you'd expect for an upscale Mexican restaurant. Great decor and vibes, decent drinks, but overly priced food that's just okay. For drinks my friend got the watermelon margarita and I got the their taco azul mockarita. My mocktail was good but extremely sweet. I was also turned off about how they were both the same price even though mine didn't even have any alcohol. The blue corn chips and guacamole were good but nothing special. Guacamole was fresh but the blue corn chips weren't my favorite. As for the tacos we ordered beef birria, crispy fish, chipotle chicken, and the shrimp. The best out of these was by far the crispy fish. If I were to come back, I would just order multiple of this. The fish was flakey and the crispiness was perfect! The others weren't very memorable, and just okay. Overall, this place was aesthetically very cool and had the right vibes, but the food was underwhelming especially for the price.

Yelp
Taco Azul - Boston, MA 21 Beacon St, Boston, MA 02108 Had the absolute pleasure of trying Taco Azul yesterday, and let me tell you, this place is a gem! The ambiance is spot-on--classy with lush green plants and vibrant blue decor that gives the space an upscale yet relaxed vibe. When it comes to Mexican spots, I always start with the basics: chips, dip, and margaritas. Taco Azul didn't disappoint! Their blue corn chips were a fun twist, and the homemade guacamole was perfectly portioned for sharing at $14.99. Plus, their Mexican Corn dip paired with the chips was addictive. Definitely a 9/10 for that combo! Their Watermelon Sugar Margarita was dangerously good--sweet like a Jolly Rancher but with zero taste of alcohol, making it a little too easy to sip on! The drink menu has something for everyone, and the small plates are ideal for sampling and sharing. Onto the tacos! Though they're on the smaller side, each one is packed with flavor and super filling. Here's what I tried: Beef Birria: Slow-roasted brisket, citrus red onions, cilantro. So tender and flavorful! Skirt Steak: Grilled to perfection with avocado crema and red onions, $6.99. Crispy Fish: Beer-battered cod, cabbage slaw, chipotle mayo, $5.99--my absolute favorite! Fresh, crispy, and the chipotle mayo was spot-on. Crispy Avocado: Beer-battered avocado with slaw and chipotle mayo, $5.99. Not my top choice, but perfect for avocado lovers. Black Bean & Sweet Potato: Smashed beans, roasted sweet potato, queso fresco, chipotle mayo, $3.99--surprisingly amazing! A great veggie option. Quesa-Birria: Brisket, onions, cilantro, Oaxaca cheese, and a delicious consomé, $6.99. Each taco brought something unique, but the crispy fish stole the show, 9/10! The vegetarian black bean & sweet potato taco was a surprising favorite too--totally worth trying, even for non-vegetarians. Overall: Taco Azul is a must-visit for taco fans! I can't think of a better spot in Boston for classic, flavorful tacos with a twist. Food: 9/10 Ambiance: 8/10 Affordability: 7/10

Yelp
This place is immaculately clean and architecturally beautiful. The food ain't bad either! I went with a party of 7 during lunch and we ordered almost everything on the menu. The food is DELICIOUS! Our server was wonderful too!

Yelp
A really solid taco place with great prices. We ordered the chips & guac & some queso and ended up finishing it all. I also got 2 tacos and 1 enchilada. The enchilada was open faced which was really neat! The service was good and I would definitely go back. I will say the tables were a bit cramped but other than that it was a good time.

Yelp
I made a reservation and my party was waiting on a course of our meal and we were told we had to leave my table due to another reservation. They moved my party to bar seating and 7 minutes later we were told we had to move again to stand even though we were waiting on the kitchen for our meal . The host was very rude to us and never apologized for their overbooking.

Yelp
Was excited to try this place out because there's not a ton of Mexican places in the area. Sad to report I was very disappointed! The margs were good but super sour and kind of weak compared other places in Boston. The rims on the glasses are pre-made- you can't get a salt or sugar rim- it's the pre-made crusted on tajin or nothing. They also don't have soda other than the little glass bottles. The guac was strange- it almost tasted meaty? But it did say it was vegetarian on the menu?? The Mexican corn tasted literally like the corn was from a can- the flavor was nice but the corn was way overcooked and mushy. The tacos were mid- but the carnitas taco was just plain old bad. I mean look at it! It looks like chicken pot pie taco! Service was good. Ambiance was good. Food was not good.

Yelp
We went here within a week of it opening and it still had that *new* restaurant smell. They definitely had some kinks to work out service wise, but everyone was very friendly. I was disappointed to not find chips and salsa on the menu as that is my favorite appetizer, however the guacamole was fresh and tasty. We each ordered the shrimp al pastor and quesabirria tacos. The birria was good, but the Al pastor was nothing to write home about. The heat and decadence was there, but it was missing a bright element. All tacos were extremely underwhelming in size, about half a palm for $7, which I think is very expensive. Overall, it was a good but overpriced dinner.

Yelp
Incredible new spot in Boston!! Best tacos I've had in this city by FAR. Menu highlights: crispy shrimp taco, crispy fish taco, shrimp al pastor taco, chipotle chicken taco, and Mexican corn!!! The ambience is sleek, trendy, great for date nights, kid friendly too. Service is excellent. Will be back for sure!!!

Yelp
Finally a solid taco spot in BH! Great service and the bartender was especially helpful in food and drink selections. Can't wait to come back to explore the menu a bit more.

Yelp
Fantastic service, drinks, and authentic food with quality ingredients. Our family will definitely be back! The owner and our server, Meagan, were warm and welcoming...cool space too. Had a variety of tacos and margs - impressed.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of stumbling upon this new spot and the food did not disappoint. Me and my friend tried a little bit of everything: started off with heaping pile of citrusy-guacamole, then worked our way through the tacos and quesadilla options: quesa-birria (beautifully braised meat with gooey cheese sauce that crisped at the edge) skirt steak tacos, shrimp al pastor, all the veggie options (highly recommend the sweet potato and black bean), and a crispy fish just for fun. Loved the tahin spiced salt on the margarita rim that came with some superb bartending by Paul. If you find yourself in the Beacon Hill area take a little detour and enjoy this place before it's booked solid!

Joshua L.

Yelp
Menu was very limited. Staff was rude. Owner asked me to stay after I got up to leave but a free meal wouldn't have been worth it. Many of better spots in nicer areas of Boston.
