"Michigan’s first Taco Bell Cantina will continue to operate sans booze — a defining feature of the chain’s spinoff urban restaurant format. The Royal Oak city commissioners voted 5-2 on Monday to deny the restaurant’s liquor license application, the Detroit Free Press reports. The franchisee plans to continue pursuing the licensing, despite city opposition. The Taco Bell Cantina location opened at 420 S. Main St. with plated food, but none of its signature boozy slushy-style Twisted Freezes. Franchisee Dortch Enterprises had hoped to add the beverages at a later date after completing a lengthy liquor licensing transfer process. However, police came out in opposition to the liquor license transfer for the Taco Bell Cantina in February, stating that “businesses that appeal to younger crowds cause a much higher strain on police resources.” Dortch had expressed a willingness to make concessions to the city such as ending alcohol sales by midnight and hiring additional weekend security, but commissioners said they were wary of allowing a national chain to acquire a liquor license, according to the Daily Tribune. Others objected to the Taco Bell Cantina itself, saying that it wasn’t as special or different as they had expected. “The Mexican pizzas and the Cheesy Gordita Crunch are great,” commissioner Kyle DuBoc told the Detroit Free Press. “But other than the fact that they would have served [alcoholic] slushy drinks, there would have been nothing to differentiate it from any other Taco Bell.”" - Brenna Houck

The address for the location is hilarious. Not serving alcohol yet, though. In fact, not serving anything different than any other Taco Bell. Biggest change: seperating the order counter from the pick up counter. Staff was friendly. Food was average. This is a difficult location to park near and doesnt offer drive through, being right in Downtown Royal Oak.

This Taco Bell is probably one of the best Taco Bell’s I’ve ever been to in terms of customer service. The people working there were so nice and genuine, I’ve never had an experience like this at any other fast food chain. Earl, who rung me up, was just such a delight to talk to. He did an excellent job in taking my order. He also made sure that the place was clean by wiping down the tables, and picking up. He is such a good worker, and a very delightful person to be around! I believe the manager (I didn’t get a chance to get her name) did a tremendous job. She made sure my food was hot and fresh, and gave me absolutely 100%. She talked to me, made sure I was doing ok, told me what time my food was going to be ready, and was just an overall great person. All the people working there that I got my order from, made my food, and packed it all up for me were some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. There is no other Taco Bell around me that just had so much energy and drive to give nothing but 100% quality service. I really do appreciate it. I applaud you, Taco Bell. This experience really made my day. Thank you so much!

Google
At first, your normal Taco Bell experience. But I'm going to go on record saying that they prepared the best Taco Bell meal I've had - fresh, fast, and right there in front of you, too. I'm sure a lot of people will be interested in the "Cantina" aspect of this particular location, especially down the road as they acquire their liquor license, but as it stands right now it's a great spot for a thrifty meal and prepared quite well.

Just putting this up front; the staff/food/cleanliness were are great; absolutely zero complaints there. However, this Taco Bell is only open until 11PM weekdays. That's not only earlier than every other Taco Bell I know of, but is also completely counterintuitive in a location like downtown Royal Oak, where there's a decent night-life just about every night.

This is the worst service I have ever received in a Taco Bell. There are six people waiting for food with one guy preparing food. And, he doesn’t appear to know what he is doing. There are several people just standing around behind the counter. Unbelievable.

This is the worst Taco Bell i have ever been to... none of the employees know what their doing, took 15 minuets for 2 burritos. Never should have opened if you couldn’t properly train your staff
