Taco Bell’s ‘Steal a Base, Steal a Taco’ World Series Promotion: The Thrill of the Chase | Eater

"An author chronicles their emotional roller-coaster chasing a free taco from the "Steal a Base, Steal a Taco" World Series promotion run by a national fast-food chain. The promo's catchy slogan and heavy broadcasts sparked excitement, but practical hurdles—requirement to download the restaurant’s app, only one reward per account, delayed reward appearance, persistent and irrelevant app notifications, and the odd need to enter credit card info for a $0 order—turned the experience frustrating. After redeeming an initial sign-up freebie via counter pickup to avoid human interaction, repeated app errors and an unresponsive in-app contact form pushed the author to DM the chain’s customer-care Twitter account and find others reporting similar problems. Ultimately the stolen-base reward arrived about a week later (around Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.), leaving the author unsure whether media coverage or patience prompted delivery." - Missy Frederick

‘Taco Bell Quarterly’ Has a Literary Obsession With the Wonder of Fast Food | Eater

"A ubiquitous fast-food chain that inspires fierce, almost cultlike devotion, celebrated for lowbrow honesty and iconic menu items like the Mexican pizza and Baja Blast; adherents argue that its refusal to chase trends or "be good" is precisely why it feels authentic. Fans cite predictable, consistent preparation (including vegetarian options) and nostalgic accessibility—making it a comfort for anxious eaters—as reasons for loyalty, even as critics point to industry issues such as low wages, cultural appropriation, homogenization, and uneven quality. Creatives have repurposed its branding and slogan ("Live Más")—including a literary magazine named after the brand—to challenge elitism in publishing, and the company has taken notice through social-media interactions and publicity stunts such as a metaverse wedding promotion, creating a peculiar, mutually visible relationship between corporate marketing and grassroots fandom." - Jaya Saxena

My experience tonight was the worst I’ve ever had. My boyfriend did a dine in order while I did an online to get an online exclusive box. He was paying with cash, he waited 15 minutes before anyone took his cash. The people behind the counter just stared until one finally came over. His order took awhile to come out. My online order was supposed to be ready at 8:15pm and I got it at 9:04pm( pics to prove)There were multiple workers in the back including the manager. Only three were working hard, the manger was eating a meal in the office and laughing with other workers. They were more concerned for drive thru people. If people were at the counter they didn’t care. Multiple doordashers came in along with dine in people. I was the LAST person to get food when I was the first person in the store(it was completely empty when we came in). The manager was beyond rude not only to me but others even getting an attitude with an old lady who asked for a plain beef burrito in which he replied “we can’t do that”. She said she saw it on the app and he proceeded to come around the counter in a very condescending tone saying “where? show me??” The manager did no work and didn’t care that I waited over an hour for my food. He told us they were working on it and didn’t even look at the screen. The workers would stare at you at the counter and do nothing. The two guys on the line (taller black man with dreads, and bigger white guy) and the girl on the drive thru were the only ones working out of 7 people there. They chose to work there no one is forcing them!! I and my boyfriend used to work in the restaurants specifically in making togos and drive thru orders so we try to have sympathy but this was just plain laziness. They need a whole new crew and a manager that actually cares!!

Service was Terrible and the food was even worse. Bad night to be hungry and have high expectations. We received the thinniest tacos I have ever seen from Taco Bell..

It would’ve been nice to have some Taco Bell if their app wasn’t so terrible. Unable to complete the order on the app. This is not the first time that this has happened at Taco Bell. They need their IT people to step up.

I ordered online. Paid for sour cream on my Mexican pizza and there was none. Barely any chicken in my burrito. Did not put any sauce on another and then one I asked for I did not get. They have an attitude at the window. Quit if you don’t care about your job. Not happy at all. Update: 5 months later and just as pathetic!!! Nacho Bell Grande made with a 1/3 of the bottom of container empty! I mean really! To expensive to not give correct proportions! Also, asked for no enchiladas sauce and confirmed that it would have sour cream. As you can see. Covered with enchilada sauce and zero sour cream! Fast food is not rocket science! This is just not giving a f—k!!!

I honestly expect nothing less from a Taco Bell but Jackson and Mason to be talked to they were disrespectful and joking as I was ordering and kept cutting me off over the drive thru. They made the line even longer when they refused to confront me about it at the window finally the shift lead came to the window and apologized. I feel bad for the shift lead he should have to deal with the crap Jackson and Mason make up.

I ordered on the app, drove 15 mins, waited 25 min for my food. Listening to the worker curse and say they don't give a crap about these customers. Birmingham and the surrounding areas have the worst customer service in taco bell

Doors for dine in locked at 10:41 A.M. Sunday morning. I'm not one to eat tacos in my vehicle or have them cold and soggy when I arrive home with them. Dine in would have been the only way to receive my business. Seems they are doing well enough to not open up for dine in customers.

We placed our order at the kiosk and hit Pay cash at counter. We went to counter and could see the employees working on an order. The first mistake we made was assuming they were working on ours. We stood at the counter for at least 8 minutes before I sat down. My husband continued to stand. It then got quiet inside. I asked my husband to check to see if they made our food. He told me the employees were sitting down playing in their phones. So I went to the counter and asked loudly “ is anyone making our order?” The 2 employees on their phones looked up like huh? Then one dash’s when did you order? So I told them we ordered 10 min ago. He then states well if you didn’t pay we don’t see the order. Lmao!! How can we pay if no one comes to the counter? Then another hit comes over from the back and says you have to pay first. I told him we had been standing there and assumed they were working on it. They saw us standing there and Never once came to ask if we needed any type of service. We paid $42 for our food and patiently waited. I guess they got so mad that the young girl working there started roughly handling our food and even kicked a box while doing so. Slammed down the quesadilla cutter loudly several times. When they handed us our food and we got back to our place every single taco was broken in our order!!! We even called the number in the receipt and talked to someone who could care less. Avoid this place like the plague. Customer service is deplorable and the food sucked!!!
