Taco Bell’s ‘Steal a Base, Steal a Taco’ World Series Promotion: The Thrill of the Chase | Eater

"An author chronicles their emotional roller-coaster chasing a free taco from the "Steal a Base, Steal a Taco" World Series promotion run by a national fast-food chain. The promo's catchy slogan and heavy broadcasts sparked excitement, but practical hurdles—requirement to download the restaurant’s app, only one reward per account, delayed reward appearance, persistent and irrelevant app notifications, and the odd need to enter credit card info for a $0 order—turned the experience frustrating. After redeeming an initial sign-up freebie via counter pickup to avoid human interaction, repeated app errors and an unresponsive in-app contact form pushed the author to DM the chain’s customer-care Twitter account and find others reporting similar problems. Ultimately the stolen-base reward arrived about a week later (around Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.), leaving the author unsure whether media coverage or patience prompted delivery." - Missy Frederick

‘Taco Bell Quarterly’ Has a Literary Obsession With the Wonder of Fast Food | Eater

"A ubiquitous fast-food chain that inspires fierce, almost cultlike devotion, celebrated for lowbrow honesty and iconic menu items like the Mexican pizza and Baja Blast; adherents argue that its refusal to chase trends or "be good" is precisely why it feels authentic. Fans cite predictable, consistent preparation (including vegetarian options) and nostalgic accessibility—making it a comfort for anxious eaters—as reasons for loyalty, even as critics point to industry issues such as low wages, cultural appropriation, homogenization, and uneven quality. Creatives have repurposed its branding and slogan ("Live Más")—including a literary magazine named after the brand—to challenge elitism in publishing, and the company has taken notice through social-media interactions and publicity stunts such as a metaverse wedding promotion, creating a peculiar, mutually visible relationship between corporate marketing and grassroots fandom." - Jaya Saxena

My experience tonight was the worst I’ve ever had. My boyfriend did a dine in order while I did an online to get an online exclusive box. He was paying with cash, he waited 15 minutes before anyone took his cash. The people behind the counter just stared until one finally came over. His order took awhile to come out. My online order was supposed to be ready at 8:15pm and I got it at 9:04pm( pics to prove)There were multiple workers in the back including the manager. Only three were working hard, the manger was eating a meal in the office and laughing with other workers. They were more concerned for drive thru people. If people were at the counter they didn’t care. Multiple doordashers came in along with dine in people. I was the LAST person to get food when I was the first person in the store(it was completely empty when we came in). The manager was beyond rude not only to me but others even getting an attitude with an old lady who asked for a plain beef burrito in which he replied “we can’t do that”. She said she saw it on the app and he proceeded to come around the counter in a very condescending tone saying “where? show me??” The manager did no work and didn’t care that I waited over an hour for my food. He told us they were working on it and didn’t even look at the screen. The workers would stare at you at the counter and do nothing. The two guys on the line (taller black man with dreads, and bigger white guy) and the girl on the drive thru were the only ones working out of 7 people there. They chose to work there no one is forcing them!! I and my boyfriend used to work in the restaurants specifically in making togos and drive thru orders so we try to have sympathy but this was just plain laziness. They need a whole new crew and a manager that actually cares!!

I ordered online. Paid for sour cream on my Mexican pizza and there was none. Barely any chicken in my burrito. Did not put any sauce on another and then one I asked for I did not get. They have an attitude at the window. Quit if you don’t care about your job. Not happy at all. Update: 5 months later and just as pathetic!!! Nacho Bell Grande made with a 1/3 of the bottom of container empty! I mean really! To expensive to not give correct proportions! Also, asked for no enchiladas sauce and confirmed that it would have sour cream. As you can see. Covered with enchilada sauce and zero sour cream! Fast food is not rocket science! This is just not giving a f—k!!!

Service was Terrible and the food was even worse. Bad night to be hungry and have high expectations. We received the thinniest tacos I have ever seen from Taco Bell..

Google
It would’ve been nice to have some Taco Bell if their app wasn’t so terrible. Unable to complete the order on the app. This is not the first time that this has happened at Taco Bell. They need their IT people to step up.

I honestly expect nothing less from a Taco Bell but Jackson and Mason to be talked to they were disrespectful and joking as I was ordering and kept cutting me off over the drive thru. They made the line even longer when they refused to confront me about it at the window finally the shift lead came to the window and apologized. I feel bad for the shift lead he should have to deal with the crap Jackson and Mason make up.

Just ordered, was only person in line. Kid taking order read my order back to me properly. Somewhere berween him and the cook, the 1 taco I had on my order was done completely wrong. My fault for not opening and looking and just expecting 3 items to be done correctly. Annoying when get home with someone else's food not made right.

Google
Went to try the new Chicken Nuggets. Was very excited, but then very disappointed when I got home and realized all the chicken was of terrible quality. The chicken must've sat in the warmer for 4 hours and 4 days as the chicken had turned black instead of being white. All of the chicken was hard as a rock and not even edible. Another reason for me to stop going to Taco Bell, wasting my time and money.

Google
The staff are completely unprofessional and have smart mouths when asked about the lateness of each customer’s order.. The employee with the braids covering up his eyes especially.. completely disrespectful

Yelp
We placed our order at the kiosk and hit Pay cash at counter. We went to counter and could see the employees working on an order. The first mistake we made was assuming they were working on ours. We stood at the counter for at least 8 minutes before I sat down. My husband continued to stand. It then got quiet inside. I asked my husband to check to see if they made our food. He told me the employees were sitting down playing in their phones. So I went to the counter and asked loudly " is anyone making our order?" The 2 employees on their phones looked up like huh? Then one dash's when did you order? So I told them we ordered 10 min ago. He then states well if you didn't pay we don't see the order. Lmao!! How can we pay if no one comes to the counter? Then another hit comes over from the back and says you have to pay first. I told him we had been standing there and assumed they were working on it. They saw us standing there and Never once came to ask if we needed any type of service. We paid $42 for our food and patiently waited. I guess they got so mad that the young girl working there started roughly handling our food and even kicked a box while doing so. Slammed down the quesadilla cutter loudly several times. When they handed us our food and we got back to our place every single taco was broken in our order!!! We even called the number in the receipt and talked to someone who could care less. Avoid this place like the plague. Customer service is deplorable and the food sucked!!!

Yelp
Staff was friendly. Food was good and hot. Service was great and ambiance was there. Would come.back.

Yelp
i just received my order and the staff was obnoxious and screaming obscenities, i couldn't recommend this to my worst enemy.

Andrew M.

Yelp
This Taco Bell told us we couldn't do two separate orders even though I've done it multiple times before. They charged me for a bottle of water when I asked for a cup of water, then did not give either. I requested no avocado ranch sauce on my power bowl, yet low and behold there was avocado ranch sauce in the bowl. They left out a fork, and finally, they did not give a receipt. The person working the speaker had an attitude because we had to ask them to repeat themselves multiple times. Save your time and go to whataburger next door. Absolutely blasphemous service by this location.

Yelp
As far as Taco Bell goes, the food is really right in line with what you would expect. They have the same typical menu, however I was disappointed that the food item they had been advertising recently on tv was already discontinued. Standard selection of Tacos, burritos, nachos, regular and specialty drinks with a good variety of sides. Price is hard to beat when you have three people eat lunch and get drinks for under $20. The main issue I have here is the cleanliness. There literally wasn't a clean table in the restaurant. Did our best to work around this, but they really weren't that busy and could stand to walk around and take some time to clean up a little. Wouldn't recommend this location, at least eating inside.

Yelp
This Taco Bell isn't trying at all! The quality of service is worse each time. They used to get it right but now we have to check all our food in the parking lot because we are very likely to have something wrong. We visit this location regularly and order for 2-4 people each time. They handed us someone else's order today and we drove off with it but luckily I noticed it was wrong just in time. When we pulled back thru they corrected it. I got home which is 10-15 mins away and noticed my vegetarian chalupa was not what I had ordered. I called to let them know that. The woman who answered immediately claimed she had not received any vegetarian chalupa orders. I didn't not appreciate that insinuation. She needs to look back at what came through after 6pm and apologize. I'm tired of driving all the way home and finding that the food I paid for isn't made correctly. Especially after messing up the first time. Hope you get it right soon lady!

Yelp
it's 1:30am and I am starving!! WHAT DO YOU MEAN "WE ONLY HAVE BURRITOS NO BEEF"?! all i wanted was nacho fries bruh... y'all are out of the object that comes once a year!?

James D.

Yelp
I can handle the usual, we're out of mild sauce and the new Toasted Cheddar Chalupa is not on sale anymore; although it is still on the automated menu to order and they have to substitute something else for it after it's been paid for. Even having to clean our own table off... But the whole spider on the floor in the middle of the restaurant for everyone to see was enough for us. He/she seemed to be right at home and was not intimidated by us customers! Last time here for us

Yelp
I swung through here 10 mins before they closed, I just worked a long shift and really wanted some tacos! I felt kinda bad for showing up so close to their closing time but I was greeted with the most kind and welcoming voice in the drive thru! I know they've been working hard all weekend and she still had such a wonderful attitude. And the food was amazing as always! Great job hiring her, she deserves a promotion

Yelp
Snappy people, nasty attitudes. Slammed the drive thru window twice because we asked how much the tab was because we couldn't hear the total through the speaker. She gave us two different totals until I asked her to check the register again. The order wasn't correct either after being shorted an item. Get trained, lose the disrespectful "children" and start being nice. Just don't bother with this drive thru. You'll save yourself an unnecessary headache.

Yelp
Okay. Charles is back and I need to warn everyone who is going to this Taco Bell. First the drive thru is ridiculously hard to get into almost wrecked. But I'm fine I guess and the workers have a terrible attitude in all honesty. After all of this I just wanted a good meal ,but guess what I didn't get it. My food got cold in under ten minutes and it was disgusting. I didn't even eat all of it because it was so nasty and I got my usual a Chicken Power Bowl. I also got the $5 fill-up nasty ASF like I about to puke and I a bellyache all night. You guys don't eat here I don't recommend it to anyone else.

Yelp
Very incompetent staff. Don't go here if you want to keep your blood pressure stable.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
The workers were rude and the food was half ass done. It took me 18 minutes to get my food and its happened several times. I would definitely never recommend this location to anyone. Nothing but problems there.

Yelp
Line moved very slow at the drive through. Employee's were less then friendly.. I also should mention that when waiting in the carpool line 2 Taco Bell employee's and 1 non taco bell employee came out of the dumpster area..... Not sure what was going on there. Anyways, they got our food wrong and gave us some of the wrong items so we had to pull around a second time. When I ate my potato griller, it wasn't as warm as I would like. When I was finishing it, the burrito was cold as ice! In the end, if you need a quick place to stop I would recommend it as a last resort. But since it's a Taco Bell I will give it 1 star. **If you want Taco Bell, I would recommend the one by Valleydale Publix and China Doll 2. This Taco bell seems to be better overall.

Yelp
Complete rubbish. Lets start with the employees that are like zombies and act like they would rather not be there. I mean i wouldn't want to be there either but you need to act like you want to. Food: You call that food? The shells of my soft tacos were soggy but the meat was clumped up and dried up. It tasted so unpleasant I even downloaded the Yelp! app just to review it. Thats big for me. The one good thing was the Cinnabon Delights, they were amazing. I say this Terrible version of my favorite fast food needs to just make those.

Robin M.

Yelp
Don't go here. Went here for lunch about 1:30 on a Saturday. There were only 2 customers inside eating. We waited at the counter for 3-4 minutes before we were greeted (no one else was in front of us). You could tell by the way the manager interacted with the employees that the manager didn't really care about the restaurant. The restaurant itself was filthy; appeared as if it hadn't been cleaned all day. Food and trash was all over the floors, the seats, and almost every single table. There was not a single dry spot at the drink station to set down our cups because no one had wiped up all the spills there. The trash was full. Most of the napkin dispensers were empty; the one that did have napkins in it was broken and you couldn't get them out without dismantling the dispenser. It's not like they were crowded and didn't have time to clean up. The place was deserted and there were enough employees there that at least one of them could have been cleaning up the dining room. Everyone just appeared apathetic.
