Taco City - Review - Logan Square - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This is a Mexican restaurant in the old El Habañero space in Logan Square. Like its predecessor, Taco City has tacos, burritos, enchiladas, pambazos, and more. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - John Ringor

Welcome to the neighborhood Taco City! We needed you! We ordered the 3 taco dinner & the flauta dinner we & couldn’t select multiple arrachera tacos so we got one arrachera, one chorizo & one fried tilapia taco. Gotta be a glitch for online ordering because we would’ve preferred 3 arrachera tacos. I Tried the tilapia taco & was very impressed -it’s delicious. The rice & beans were excellent. The flauta dinner was excellent. They were fried to perfection, crispy & the meat inside was tender & flavorful. 10/10 The guacamole on top was a lil too tomatoey but still delicious. We also tried all 3 of the salsas & they are excellent. The price point for our meals was good. The people working there were kind. The restaurant was very clean. I highly recommend Taco city & it was an enjoyable meal.

I ordered through DoorDash and wow—these were honestly some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. Even after delivery, everything was still hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The meat was juicy and well-seasoned, the tortillas held up perfectly, and the toppings were fresh and balanced.

Google
Amazing authentic Mexican food, probably my favorite in the Logan Square area. The pambazo and green enchiladas are incredible. Highly recommend!

Google
Their tacos are delicious! The skirt steak and shrimp are my favorites. So flavorful and fresh, way better than tacos I’ve paid more for. The guacamole is also great. A hidden gem, it will definitely become a staple for dine in and takeout.

An actual hidden gem! Carne asada and pastor tacos are some of the best I’ve ever had.

Yelp
Really flavorful! Giant portions. Great value. Squeaky clean. Highly recommend!! I don't understand the reviews wistful for El Habenaro. Despite it being literally at the end of our block, I refused to go there. The food was the blandest of the bland cheap ingredient grossness. It was also dirty. Like the kind of dirty where the tables were sticky and the soles of your shoes stuck to the floor. I saw the back kitchen as I walked by pretty often.. no thanks. Anyway, enough about the old spot... I'm just saying, I welcome this change with enthusiasm. The place has a new coat of paint and has been totally cleaned up. I'm pretty sure the owner is an owner operator working at the place. If that's who we met, they were very nice. The food has flavor and salsas have heat (for me). Three salsa options all were distinct and delicious. All the food was super super yummy. And the portions were out of control large. The bill was very reasonable. I actually think they need to pull back on portion size or up the price, it just seems like too good a value for them to be making money. I really hope this place crushes it because I'd like for it to stick around.

Yelp
In a word, fine. We were heartbroken when El Habanero closed and surprised to see something new was coming in so quickly. Husband tried Taco City first. He got some tacos and said it was ok, but no El Habanero. I was in need of some dinner and popped in for carry out. I ordered the nachos without meat or sour cream. The cashier was clearly new, but staff was friendly. When I asked about salsas, they said they had three kinds - red, green and house. The red wasn't very red (I'm assuming it's the red) and the house was very orange like it had a lot of habanero in it, but it wasn't that hot. The nachos were kind of a hot mess. There was tons of melted cheese and beans on them. Too much and this is someone who loves both. It felt like the cheese formed a protective helmet over the rest of the nachos. The beans on the bottom made most of the chips soggy. The guac on top was fine, I couldn't tell if it had spinach in it or a lot of cilantro (cilantro haters, you've been warned). I'll go back and give it another shot, but it doesn't hold a candle to El Habanero or Taconazo. 2.5 stars rounded up

Yelp
My guy and I stopped in for tacos on pur very first day k owing each other. That made it special in itself. The food made it even better. My fave was the shrimp tacos, but they were all delicious! One of the owners was such a nice lady, great service. We will be back! Only feedback would be more salt and cilantro in the guacamole.

Yelp
Was excited to try - the Milanesa was overcooked to the point of being inedible. Disappointing

Yelp
We order 6 different kinds of taco, and they were all delicious. The tilapia and the shrimp tacos have a kick to them, which surprised me and in a good way. All were very flavorful. This place is relatively new, and I will go back to order more food from them for sure!

Yelp
Tried this restaurant for the first time last night it was great! We got chicken tinga empanadas, a quesadilla and steak burrito. Everything was presented nicely and was delicious - large portions too! Service was also quick and friendly!

Yelp
Pambazo and shrimp tacos slap! 5 stars all the way. No alcohol served but not sure if there's BYOB

Yelp
Obviously new, but on the right path. I have been to everything that's been in this spot for the past 13yrs (el habanero, the restaurant before that) and this will be a beloved spot as it gets going. The lomo taco is amazing, and I appreciate the larger menu. I've done carry out and eat in, both good experiences - they're just getting their bearings straight.
