Small Mexico City–style spot that made Wichita talk about machetes—two-foot griddled tortillas stuffed with meat, peppers, and cheese. Covered by the Wichita Eagle and praised by budget-minded taco fans for $1 street tacos and house salsas.

I've driven by many times, today is Taco Tuesday so I stopped and gave this place a shot. When I walked in there was nobody there; and the place had an odor, I should have left but I was committed. I ordered the taco plate, chips & salsa, and a bottled Coke. I had a seat and waited for my order. In the meantime, countless people arrived to order and pick up their online orders. The TV was loud, the people were loud and no one told their children to keep the noise down. After 17 minutes, my order was ready, I felt like everyone was watching me and growling because my order was ready, The beans were flat and runny, the rice was underdone and salty, the street taco meat, carne asada, was overdone and my bottle of coke got warm waiting on my order. The worst part is an employee started cleaning while I was eating. She was spraying chemicals and stirring up dust from sweeping. I knew close was right around the corner but I am still eating. The bathroom is bad. It needs updating and a solid cleaning. Good luck if you decide to try this place. You get what you pay for. I am moving on.

Google
everyone rants & raves about this place so I finally gave it a try— smells like cat pee when you walk-in but I already put my order in online 🫤. it was dead so i stood there a long minute until someone came up front to help, no biggie the lady was nice. the food is where they really lost me— i’ve had asada tacos from enough places i can fairly say this was NOT GOOD. burnt the asada to the point it was crunchy and i don’t think they marinade it at all because it tasted like dry american steak thrown into a taco. they are cheap because they are two bites maybe three. many better taco places than this one. glad i can finally quit feeling like i missed out on this place when i go elsewhere!

Google
The smell inside is a little off, I ordered ahead and food still wasn’t ready it’s a little upsetting how they make you wait extra and the lady upfront kind of ignores you she just says wait… I wish they were faster and nicer. I waited 40 minutes for my order online honestly not coming back at all it’s a really upsetting.

Google
The lady behind the counter was great. The tacos where excellent for $1.25. and the machete was super good. Also get the melon drink. Definitely will be back

Google
The food was so good. We had watched several local food vloggers visit and figured it was time. @jackstacks.eats finally sold us on it. My husband and I had tacos, which were great! Very fresh and so homemade, which you could taste in every bite. We just touched the surface and can't wait to try more of what's on the menu.

Google
it’s taco Tuesday, so I decided to check out this place but I hadn’t been to for a while. The place is clean, service quick, staff very pleasant. while their tacos are a little smaller than others have a great taste and crate salsa. They’re mild salsa has a very unique flavor and highly recommended. As a local guide with over 32,000 views of my reviews and over 1 million views of my photos, my goal is that produce reviews that you like, but factual. If my review was helpful or you enjoyed reading it feel free to check ✔️ like, if you have constructive suggestions please feel free to leave them. Thanks for reading! —- Org review - was 3 stars. We tried the machete and tacos. Tacos were good, considering they were $1 each. The machete was disappointing, lacked taste, was greasy. Servers were nice, but took over 30 minutes to get food an we were second in line.

Google
We had the Campechano which is chorizo & steak, Al Pastor Chicken and the Suadero which is special seasoned diced beef. They were all great! My favorite was the Suadero and Al Pastor chicken. I ordered 7 tacos and ended up ordering 3 more and their rice WOW it tasted like I made it myself at home (I’m Mexican) AUTHENTIC! The lady at the counter was so nice, the restaurant smelled clean as soon as up walked in. Will definitely be back!!!

Google
Would recommend this place!!! Highly recommended fast friendly service. Very inexpensive. A flavor that is unique. Tacos for a dollar that are amazing. Three types of sauce at the table. Smaller venue so get there early or order ahead of time. Queso is different than any place I have experienced. Homemade chips. Try it out you will be glad you did.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service! aguas frescas were delicious. Carne asada was my favorite

Yelp
I've been by this place numerous times but never stopped in. That changed today. The seatings area is spacious and a few people were dining in. We walked up to the counter & were greeted by a gentleman who kindly answered questions about the menu. Hubs was undecided on what meat he wanted so the gentleman said, "try these" & came back with a sample of the al pastor & carne asada. Hubs said both were good & went with the asada for his machete. Yes, they have a HUGE machete on the menu. I went with an asada burrito. After getting our order we made our way to our destination. Everything traveled well & stayed hot. The review on the wall describes the machete as being a cousin of the quesadilla, only bigger. She was right in saying that you should definitely bring a hungry friend or two to share it. While it was cut in half this thing is massive. Hubs said it was good (I can attest to that as the bite I had was good). There is the softness of the outside, the flavor of the asada was on point & the cheese adds to it perfectly). Unfortunately, his eyes were bigger than his stomach. I think it'd be fun to have a little scoreboards with the number of people who couldn't finish the machete. The burrito was the best burrito I have ever eaten. Again, the asada was fantastic & favorable. I was thrilled to see that it wasn't overloaded with rice like so many other burritos. I loved the addition of onion & cilantro with the rice, beans & asada. This burrito doesn't disappoint at all. I appreciate the love that goes into the food here. We'll definitely be back again!

Yelp
We love the Street tacos and Machete is a one of a kind experience that blows my mind every time! Very friendly staff behind counter ready to help. Clean resteraunt up front, highly recommend everyone try it out,

Yelp
The food is always amazing, hot sauce is always on point, would definitely recommend this restaurant. The service is amazing friendly and quick. If you order ahead they always make sure to follow up if they have any questions to make sure your food and experience is always great. It is a big location. The ambience is always really good I usual take my food to go but the atmosphere is always great!

Yelp
Great tacos! Hoping to try the burritos soon. The staff is great and friendly. Clean, and inviting.

Yelp
This is authentic Mexican at a central but convenient location with quick on/off access to Kellogg. It's nothing fancy inside but it feel like I'm back in Ensenada. The food is solid, reasonably priced, a little slow but we'll worth the wait.

Whitney W.

Yelp
It was my first time eating here and I ordered online on my lunch break and the owner was really rude to me because she gave me the wrong order. When I walked in the restaurant there was a man and woman yelling at each other, yelling and cussing and to have the lady be super rude to me for just asking if I can get the correct order was insane. Big thumbs down...

John M.

Yelp
Great place to eat! I had a friend recommend it and both time I have had it and it's been amazing! Definitely does not disappoint!
google avatar

Arianna B.

Yelp
Hands down the best street tacos in Wichita. My go to are the carne asada with the green sauce. The simplicity of lime, cilantro, and onion is all you need. The middle aged woman who works there is so very kind, and I love when she takes my orders. The inside and location gives off hole in the wall, which makes it all the better. The tacos only being $1.25 is also a huge plus. Definitely a must try in Wichita!
google avatar

Daisy D.

Yelp
Poor customer service, they never answer their phone. Not the indicated place to visit if your on lunch or want food quickly. They take 45 minutes and don't care if you called in your order 1 hour prior so it's pointless.
google avatar

Duane J.

Yelp
Pay for what you get! $1 tacos everyday but they were hella dry and slow service! I give this taco an 1.5.. #missiontofindbesticttaco

Yelp
I liked this spot much better than my dining companion. Between us we ordered 8 tacos. They are street style, dressed with cilantro and diced onion, served with a lime wedge. They are on the small side, but just a buck! The asada ones were dry, but when covered with their amazing orange salsa, are quite a delight. I also had al pastor, which was quite flavorful. And chorizo which did not contain the punch I was looking for. They also have amazing green salsa and a very smokey chipotle salsa! These sauces are all the best! Finally I ordered the flan for dessert! Yes! Yes! Yes! It's a slice as big as a burger box, and perfect! The burnt sugar glaze was heavenly, and the custard of the flan was smooth and delicate. This is a MUST! Even if my friend isn't up for a return visit, I've definitely found my favorite new Mexican lunch spot. Beware...service can be slow, so go when you have plenty if time!

Yelp
Taco Fajita does a fantastic job making affordable, tasty tacos. When they first opened, they took quite a while to get the food out. Now they are much quicker and did it without compromising the quality. They are an excellent choice and definitely in the top 3 in the city.
google avatar

Yelp
Being from West Texas I feel I've got a good idea of what a taco should be. I was craving street tacos one Tuesday and decided to give Taco Fajita a try based on yelp reviews. First off.... it's a complete DIVE and hole in the wall. I had high expectations based on this alone as my experience is that these places stay in business merely on the food being good. I ordered 5 of the asado street tacos ($1 each) and a coke. First bite in I was taken back to my days of living in West Texas. The tacos had flavor, texture, and everything everything one looks for in a street taco. I destroyed those five tacos and placed an order for 5 more to go. Excellent flavor. Be sure and add the green sauce they give you for a Smokey slow burn heat (medium) to the taco. Yes I will be back

Yelp
Sooooooo good!!! Their tacos are always 1$ and amazing their rice is the best ever! Chips and salsa yummmm!!! Only complaint is they're SO slow and never answer the phone!
google avatar

Mary N.

Yelp
I ordered one of each of their taco as well as gorditas, and both were really good! The tacos are only $1! The flavors of the meats were on point and not dry. I'm a fan of corn tortillas instead of flour, and Taco Fajitas uses corn so I really liked it. Definitely returning because the flavors for their price is amazing.
google avatar

Sonja P.

Yelp
These are some of the best tacos I've had ever! They make the corn tortillas in house and are fresh to order. They have the best chicken pastor (yes chicken!) that I've ever had and their carne asada is also delicious. We topped with their green and red salsas which are both really good flavor and spice!
google avatar

Korben D.

Yelp
Super amazing tacos, burritos and other grilled things that are all fantastic! Try the machete and their special spiced beef! They have a simple menu that makes everything delicious. Outstanding Horchata too, it's nice and creamy.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
I had heard good things about this place and had been tempted to go for a long time, well about a couple weeks ago I decided to try it out and was not disappointed with the flavor. I had the suadero tacos and I really enjoyed the crispy tortillas and the wonderful flavor of the meat. They are small tacos with a single tortilla but they are $1! The only downside to this place is that they have an extremely small kitchen and therefore have slow service! I decided to try again on another occasion and was still disappointed to find it took way to long for my order to be ready. If you are willing to sacrifice time for great flavor give this place a try!
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
The machete is the best thing I ever ate I would eat it till I die. I would eat it even after I die
google avatar

Kyle R.

Yelp
Absolute hidden gem! Get yourself a machete and finally live your life! Gooey delicious cheese and grilled veggies with your choice of meat (I suggest the al pastor) stuffed into a homemade crispy tortilla! Pure magic.
google avatar

Toemat P.

Yelp
Good for a dollar a taco, but I waited 40 min for 20 tacos. I try to call 3 times before I got there to make a order, not once my call was picked up. But when I got there, a worker was holding the phone.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
What can I say. Hole in the Wall places have amazing food. This is such the place. I ordered he Machete with a side of rice and bean. It was spectacular.

Blake C.

Yelp
One quick correction - the name of the restaurant on the building and on your maps is Taco Fajita... NOT Fajitas. That being said, we have an update: This is now my favorite Mexican restaurant in the air capital. They claim to specialize in the Mexican food that is actually served in Mexico City. I've never been south of the border, so I can't tell you if they are telling the truth. What I can tell you is that EVERYTHING on the menu at Taco Fajita is not good... it is GREAT. The $1 Tacos are NOT to be missed, and you get a good amount of meat with each one. They have several varieties and, while I haven't YET tried them all, the chicken al pastor and carne asada are my favorites so far. The Machete is a big meal that I haven't tackled solo yet, but it is delicious. The Quesalambre is stuffed with cheese, and the burritos are just as big as any in Wichita. The chips for the chips and salsa are the best I've ever had. The salsa they serve though is a bit strange when it comes to what you traditionally find here in the states. It isn't bad, but it isn't to my liking and isn't great for dipping chips into. I wish they had queso or guacamole for their awesome chips. For the tacos though, do yourself a favor and ask for the dark red sauce - I call it chipotle. It is the BOMB. Move over El Gordo... I still love you, but THIS reigns supreme on the West side. Outstanding service and VERY polite ownership behind the counter. I cannot more highly recommend a restaurant than Taco Fajita. TLDR: It's great. Go now. 5/5

Yelp
I use to have a favorite down the street until I discovered this place. Authentic as it gets. $1 mini carnitas tacos, al pastor gorditas, flan and horchata are my go to here. Just don't expect to get chips and salsa here. And don't take a 1st date here. Nothing fancy. Bit it's delicious and she accepts credit cards. It's my go to on an empty stomach.

Kevin N.

Yelp
The lady that works up front is very nice, me And my Girlfriend go there for dollar tacos every week! We love this place and will keep coming back!

Melissa T.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and filling. I come in every week and have never been disappointed. Having good, cheap tacos overshadows the wait time. Overall, I love this place! It's THE go-to for tacos in Wichita.

Juan L.

Yelp
Waited for 19 minutes in line. Waited another 23 minutes for my food. A total of 42 minutes just to get my food. I've given this place multiple tries and tonight was the night I said enough is enough. The food has good flavor but the wait time is just ridiculous!!!
google avatar

Rafa E.

Yelp
Been here a few of times. Food is pretty good. The People are really nice. The prices are awesome. The inside is a bit different. I've tried the asada tacos (pretty good for a dollar each). The gorditas(huge and really good). The asada burrito (big couldn't finish it). The .50 cent guacamole is a must.

Michelle H.

Yelp
We are there at least once a week. Best tacos in all of Wichita!!! Thank you taco fajita for your delicious food and your amazing service!!
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
The folks at Taco Fajitas were pretty nice considering we got there right before closing time. I'm not sure if that also had to do with the fact that it took forever to get our food (got their at 7:45 and did not get our food until 8:20) and unfortunately it was cold. We got the $1.00 tacos with beans and rice. The beans and rice were good and the tacos weren't bad either aside from them being cold and super small. If you're hungry, you'd better get like 10 of them. The three that came with the beans and rice were not enough to satisfy anyone in our party. I'd recommend going earlier and ordering a lot of tacos to get full.
google avatar

Jon K.

Yelp
A great place for tacos and more. You can't beat $1 tacos it's amazing. Absolutely love their tacos.

Tommy T.

Yelp
Definitely worth the money $1.00 tacos can't beat that. The meat is real juicy and taste great! The al pastor tacos are worth dying for, it makes me want to buy a giant platter. I definitely will come back to get more.

Anna R.

Yelp
My FAVORITE place to eat. Tiny hole in the wall. Awesome food, great prices (I really think the $4 burritos could be more and I would gladly pay). We live in a small town about 30 min away and we often drive 2x a week for the food.

Troy B.

Yelp
Their tacos are maybe the best in town. The choriqueso tacos in particular are out of bounds.

Gigi M.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in Wichita, KS. They make everything from scratch, so, don't go there if you are in a hurry or if you can't wait during lunch hours. Prices are amazingly low. Food it's delicious! They don't really answer their phones but you may text your order ahead of time (no guarantee that you'll wait any less....Highly recommended.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
Homemade Mexican comfort food at a reasonable price. Been a customer since the beginning and I'll be one till the end.

J K.

Yelp
This place is a true hole in the wall and SOOOO good. Food and prices are amazing. The service is very friendly and welcoming. I had never tried horchata before and they gave me a cup to try for free. One of my favorite places to eat!
