Where to Find Exceptional Halal Eats in Houston

"With outposts at Post Houston, in Katy, and at the Galleria, this ever-popular taco truck marries Latin American flavors with halal standards and preparations. Birria tacos, enchiladas, empanadas, and a hearty consommé are among the menu’s standouts. Be sure to try the truck’s spin on ramen, which amps up the Japanese dish with birria and pickled onions." - Sean Hekmat, Kayla Stewart

Every time I have come to Taco Fuego it never fails to impress me. Today I was helped by Mike and he was very kind and patient. Our order exceeded our expectations and was amazing like always!

Google
Do not go here! They are extremely rude and the customer service was terrible! I asked for their chicken mini taco combo and the cashier asked if I wanted three tacos, I said no, I want the chicken mini taco combo. He said okay and the proceeds to charge me for the three tacos which is significantly more expensive. When I received the wrong order and politely told him about the corrections, he just went to make my original order with no refund in sight. When I told him about the refund he grew very angry and aggressive (slamming receipts on the table, rolling his eyes at me, openly mocking me.) Eventually when I asked for my final receipts he grabbed my bag, purposefully scratching me in the process, before rudely showing me the receipt in the bag. Then just when I thought it was over THIS is how I got my food back! Just haphazardly thrown together & spilled all over! Really really rude!

Google
Super cute spot located in a food court with so many different options. Pricing is decent and customer service was on point. Def coming back!!

Google
Good al pastor tacos as well as chicken. The street corn is really good as well, the Post is a nice place to visit with family!

Yelp
Food: The Baja tacos were pretty good and not badly priced! Seating: Plenty of places to sit Service: We went around 12am there was no line and service was quick! Parking: There parking lot was very easy

Yelp
I always get the birria beef tacos and they are always super yummy! The tacos already are super juicy and seasoned amazing, but the consome sauce on the side adds the perfect touch! I wish there was more that came with the meal, essentially you're paying $4.75 for a single taco and that doesn't include the consome sauce either. The service is average, not bad, but nothing extraordinary. Regardless this is always a stop for me when I visit the Post Market!

Yelp
Came here on Saturday and ordered the Barría Tacos. My order was quick and piping hot. I looked at the pics on Yelp and was sold. I ordered 1chicken and 2 beef. It comes with cheese, cilantro and pickled red onions. Also the traditional consume'...I will definitely try them again. Enter freely, they've been approved.

Yelp
Ordered a $18 crunchwrap, but they gave me a $18 burrito, I said it was fine I would take it so they did not have to remake it. The burrito was not large, but not small, about 2/3 chipotle sized. In general it was a very subpar dish. The steak was dry, chewy and lacked flavor. The cheese inside was not melted and by the looks it is pre shredded low quality cheese. The rice was had hard with undercooked pieces. In general the whole thing needed flavor and sauce. If you are going to charge $18 for a medium sized burrito at least make it with good quality ingredients. This was honestly one of the worst burritos I have had in a long time. I cannot recommend eating at Taco Fuego at The Post, just pick another eatery.

Yelp
Post HTX food hall location. They usually keep a long line but moves it pretty fast. I got their Fuego fries with birria and it was delicious! The fries were nice and crispy and seasoned, and the meat was good as well. This is probably my new favorite dish with them.

Yelp
First time at the Post and was overwhelmed with the variety of food options here. I decided to go with some tacos and empanadas. A pineapple agua fresca on the side. The food took a little longer than expected considering the nature. The chicken didn't have much flavor but it was cooked well. I really enjoyed the empanadas and the salsa it came with. Typically the salsas are too spicy for me but it's like these were made for me. I loved them. My drink came without ice, but I'm not sure if this is typical since the soda machines are located around the establishment. Didn't bother me, I just figured i got a little more drink to fill my cup. Based on this meal I would only come back for the empanadas.

Yelp
I rather just eat at Taco Bell. My birria was not crispy or cheesy. My Texas taco was nothing special either.

Yelp
After walking around the POST serval times deciding where to go, I noticed quite a lot of people waiting in line for Taco Fuego. I thought to myself, "it must be good then, right?" I ordered 1 quesabirria beef combo ($13.50). Wait time wasn't that bad (10-15 minutes). When I got the food, it was piping hot and I quickly snapped a couple pics before digging in. The cheese was still melty. Tacos wasn't overly salty and the consommé was quite good. Beef was soft and tender. Even my mom really enjoyed it! Not bad.

Yelp
I brought some fam out to The Post on a weekday to check it out and then grab some lunch. We did our sight seeing and quickly worked up an appetite. We checked out the options and ordered some items from here. First off, the staff was not very welcoming or friendly. It was straight business, no pleasantries. I ordered some street tacos, fries, elotes, a crunchwrap, and a cheese crusted burrito. We waited what seemed like an eternity to get our food. The neighboring stall had our food out quick, so half my family was almost done with their meals by the time we started on this food. The street tacos and elotes were good from what I was told. The crunch wrap and my burrito were not that good. I would say it's maybe a step up from Taco Bell. They looked good on the outside, but inside everything was not hot and it was more random filling than meat. The sauces that came with it were pretty tasty and spicy. This was not a cheap meal by any means, so I was expecting alot more out of this place. Doubt I'll be back!

Yelp
I have been wanting to try the Ramen Birria since I saw it on social media but haven't had the chance until today. I was ordering a birria when I realized they had the Ramen. It was $10.55 with tax. Ramen, birria, onions, corn and cilantro in a bowl of soup. Idk it wasn't bad but it wasn't as great as I imagined in my head. Everything was cooked very well. I feel like it was missing something.... Something! Probably the corn tortilla! I tried their mango juice but it didn't have any flavor so I passed on that. Suck with my bottle of water. Would I order it again.... Yes!

Yelp
Immediately when I received my food I noticed it looked nothing like what i've seen on there social media and other pictures seen on yelp. Taste-wise, the beef was tough and I barely had any cheese in my quesabirria tacos. I can say that the consome sauce was very good and flavored. I tried the shrimp taco and I wasn't mad at it because the shrimp were good on its own but no so much in the taco. I would've preferred grilled shrimp. Id recommend POST as a whole but I wouldn't recommend taco fuego. Hopefully it was just a bad day :(

Yelp
I was curious about the Birria ramen because of the combination of Asian and Mexican food. The combination of food was OK but it's super salty. Honestly I felt like I'm eating 1lb of salt in the bowl. Wonder if the Chef actually taste his own food. If he cuts down the saltiness of it 70% maybe it will help. My friend and I both couldn't eat our ramen. For sure I would never order that again.

Yelp
I saw birria on the menu and that immediately caught my eye. This was the last place we went to for food before Post Market closed for the day, and it was still fairly busy. I got the quesabirria taco, with the meat as birria de res of course, and also the birria consome to dip the taco in. What I realized is that this place charges for the consome, while other Taco Fuego in Houston seemingly doesn't if you just want a small quantity, and if they do, there are more garnishes like cilantro, etc in the consome. The taco is pretty solid - the shell is a bit toasted which makes it great for dipping the taco in the consome. There is a pretty generous amount of meat within, so even 1 taco is pretty filling. The consome is satisfying to dip and also drink a little, as it is quite flavorful, but it was a bit way too salty for me to enjoy.

Yelp
not happy all with Taco Fuego Cypress. I loved going here with my family but this time. no seasoning. tacos falling apart. just was not a happy experience

Yelp
Taco Fuego is a great spot at The Post in Houston. My friends were visiting and were caught by the halal sign on the Taco Fuego menu. We ended up getting Elotes and birria tacos. This was my absolute first time having birria tacos so I was in love with the taste however it would've been even better if it wasnt as tang-y. The Elotes were not the best, it was a little disappointing to bite into since a lot was expected but I believe that the cheese was just a little too overpowering in this case. However, all in all the birria tacos were pretty tasty and the staff were very nice in assisting us to choose which tacos to get. The Post's ambiance in general is super nice and trendy. It almost felt like we were not in America and teleported to another country! Highly recommend if its your first time having birria tacos and if you enjoy some Spice!!

Yelp
Probably the worst tacos I've had in Houston living here for 20+ years. I would've much rather have gone to Chipotle or Torchy's where I would've felt more welcomed and not have had to pay for parking for a food court environment. I ordered 3 street tacos (came out to almost $15), 2 with carne asada and 1 with chicken, but received 2 Birria and 1 chicken. All of which came out ridiculously fast and was slightly concerning. When I had brought it up to the staff, the cashier told me I had told him Birria and chicken. After going back and forth, it seemed like there wasn't going to be a compromise or resolution so I walked away. But then another gentleman asked if I would scan a QR code to give them a 5 star review on Google, to which I declined because of the abysmal customer service. The birria meat was so tough and dry and had no flavor or seasoning other than salt. Unfortunately the chicken was the exact same, just dry and salty with no flavor. Tortillas themselves were oddly cold and didn't seem to be heated up on a grill at all. I had gone back to ask for extra salsa so it could be remotely more edible but I was told it was an extra cost. Sadly the food is just terrible. There are way better taco options in Houston to support than a place that will nickel and dime patrons with no emphasis on customer service. The overwhelming amount of positive reviews they have on Google definitely isn't accurate or reflective of the food and service. I would stay far away and take your patronage to any other small business in Houston. Tacodeli and La Calle are down the street and serve way better food

Yelp
Atmosphere: Taco Fuego is a stand in the back left side of POST. Service: They were quite busy, but our order came out at a pretty reasonable time. Food: We ordered a Texan Taco with Brisket. The best part of the taco was the meat as it was flavorful and served generously. The other toppings, sauce, and the tortilla itself were just ok. Also, the menu didn't mention any cheese on the Texan, but our taco had a gummy, chewy layer of cheese on the bottom. Looking at other pictures of the Texan, there doesn't seem to be any cheese as indicated by the menu, so we're not sure if this was an error on their part or if the menu wasn't updated. Overall: Taco Fuego had good brisket but did not stand out in any particular way. Especially at the price (almost $6 for 1 taco), we were hoping for better quality and freshness in the other ingredients. Additionally, the unexpected cheese threw us off. In Houston, there are definitely better tacos at a cheaper price.

Yelp
Half of the order was either missing or wrong. Comically bad. What we did have was good but cold.
google avatar

Lindsey R.

Yelp
The service was great! All of my food came out fresh, hot and pretty quickly. I love the shrimp and beef Birria tacos with consume
google avatar

Oliver B.

Yelp
Meh! For the price of these tacos, I was expecting my mind to be blown. Houston has loads of tacos stands, and this one was just okay. The side of rice and beans are happy meal sized so again with the price. I was expecting so much more.
google avatar

Yelp
Quesabirria Tacos- 6/10 they have a tangy taste. Good but not anything to jump about Birria Tamale- 9/10. I'm a fan of masa, so I do like extra. It was so flavorful, the texture was perfect and moist. There isn't much meat, but that was good as well Ramen- 8/10 only downfall was there was too much pickled onions taste in it. The staff were there, nothing extra about the service. Can't complain if nobody was rude. Order came out fairly quick. Returning for the tamales.
google avatar

Katherine R.

Yelp
Food was mid. For 4 meals it was close to $70. Which for that price I don't mind paying but hope it's good. It was mid. Wasn't the worst thing ever but also not the best. The birria was giving gentrified birria didn't have the taste of authentic birria. It had a sweet flavor to it. Aside from the food it took 20 min to get our food in which I was hoping would come out hot and fresh. Instead it was cold and with the flavor it had didn't help. This location was at the POST which can be busy, but doesn't matter how busy I'm paying in hopes of fresh and yummy food. The ambiance at the post is great but I would recommend a different vendor.

Megan G.

Yelp
Everything was so yummy and fresh the street corn was perfect!! Definitely will come back.
google avatar

Jasmin G.

Yelp
I personally liked the Birria tacos from this place. You did have to buy the consomé separately, but nonetheless, the tacos were crispy and flavorful. Definitely try it out!
google avatar

Roxy S.

Yelp
The empanadas were really good and flavorful. The street corn was good as well but pretty spicy
google avatar

Yelp
I came here for my birthday and decided I wanted to try all the fries offered by the various different restaurants. There were so many to choose from, but we ended up choosing the carne asada fries from here as one of the ones we would try! Servers were nice and the food came out pretty fast. The fries were good! Not amazing but good. I like that it was simple and didn't have a lot going on, but on the other hand, it probably could've used something to give it that extra push to set it apart from the other places. These were just basic carne asada fries. We also tried the birria tamales which were pretty good! I do wish they had a sauce to dip it in, it would've given it something to set it apart from just regular tamales. Overall it is a decent place to try, I would definitely have to try more from here and maybe change my review in the future!
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Definitely NOT impressed. After watching some videos on their ig, my girlfriend and I got the shrimp quesadilla and the chicken quesadilla. The young man who took our order was very nonchalant which I didn't appreciate. Why quesadillas are served with fries, I don't know. I do know that the fries were cold with no flavor and no salt. I've had better fries from ore Ida. The quesadilla was just okay, think a step up from taco bell which is exactly where you should go instead of spending your money here on this midgrade stuff.

Ibrahim M.

Yelp
Fire tacos always perfect never disappointed Everyday after work never misses Always lol
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
I was browsing the food trucks in this area and saw this one. I was pretty excited to see they had tamales on the menu. I went ahead and got 2 of them which were I think $2.50 for each one. It looked good on the outside but when I started digging at it, there was more masa than birria filling. The masa was pretty dense. The birria was good.
google avatar

Christina A.

Yelp
So the food was lacking more to be desired. Presentation looked great but honestly the quesadillas lacked flavor. The fries was a large amount but again missing some flavor.

Terrell B.

Yelp
The Birria tacos are the bomb, best tacos on the menu. The service is easy and the ambiance is easy. Also the dipping sauce is immaculate.
google avatar

Huyen C.

Yelp
Located inside the Post, a taco joint with BIRRIA tacos! Went on a Saturday at 2:30pm and it was packed. The line was long and the tacos were good, but not to die for. The pork BIRRIA was much better than the chicken one. Lots of flavor and toppings. The Pupusa was good and I don't have anything to compare it to, so I would recommend trying it! The price for one taco was 4.25 and we have had better taco trucks that are cheaper. Definitely try it if you're in the area

Yelp
My wife's train got delayed so I took a stroll over to Post Houston to grab a bite. This was only my 2nd time here so I really didn't know what I wanted. After a lap and a half around the food court, I decided on Taco Fuego. A BIG reason for the 3 star? There host/order taker. No greeting, none welcoming just strictly business. I like to feel that my patronage is respected and appreciated but so much for that. On to the food. I ordered the Fuego Fries and a Barria Pupusa. Fuego fries were delicious.. I got mine with the chicken (there's a beef option also). The seasonings and sauces were like a celebration in my mouth. They just blended so well. And the cilantro and onions were a perfect topper. Definitely will get in again. Now the pupusa was ok.. I'm just used to more traditional pupusas I guess. It was fried in grease instead of the traditional dry grill fry and the barria wasn't very favorable. All-in-all it was good. Better greeter would have landed them a 4 for sure.
google avatar

Shah M.

Yelp
Having been to the Post a few times before, I've generally avoided Taco Fuego as the lines are usually pretty long. Thankfully they weren't this time because I was able to see that it's totally worth it! The Quesabirria Tacos were fantastic. The meat was flavorful/juicy and the taco itself was cooked perfectly (not soft or soggy at all). The consume wasn't as spicy as other options in town, but still tasted great (and is good enough to share for multiple people). The Mexican Street Corn was a perfect side dish and rounded out a great experience overall.
google avatar

Kaitlyn P.

Yelp
This was my first time trying burria tacos so I didn't come in with expectations. Overall it was pretty good! The tacos was very flavorful and full of meat! The pupusa lacked flavor in my opinion and needed the soup dip (for burria) to make it more tasty. Would recommend the beef burria tacos for anyone!

Donald H.

Yelp
I had less today from taco fuego and it was wonderful. Plus the service was fast. I would love y'all to try the chicken quesadillas and the different sauce. I can't remember the name of it, but it was good.
google avatar

Faiz S.

Yelp
Man this place is awful. Overpriced food with no taste. The meat weather beef, shredded chicken, or brisket was not good. Who uses shredded chicken and small diced up beef meat on a $20 order of fries with meat. Use proper fajita meat on your food! Better choices at the post maybe better. We ordered the chicken quesadillas and loaded fries with all meats
google avatar

Ryan N.

Yelp
I expected more from this place, but it was WAY below my expectations. The front server didn't properly greet us when we came to order, and looked like he didn't even care about taking our orders to begin with. He even bribed us a free drink if we gave this place a 5 star rating & review (which explains why there's so many "great" reviews about this place). We ordered 2 Quesabirria De Ris ($4.25 each = $8.50 for 2) and a Consome Sauce ($2.50). To start off, the Quesabirria De Ris tasted amazing with the Consome Sauce! It was very flavorful, hence why I added an extra star to my review...however, I also believe that it's not good enough to be $4.25 each. The sizing is so small for one to be so pricy. With the bad customer service, the small sizing, and the rip off price, I wouldn't recommend this place. The food might be good, but pricing and service is not. Try another place that actually cares about their customers.

Kenydi N.

Yelp
CUSTOMER SERVICE ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I found a piece of long hair in my guacamole. Mind you my hair is short, The "manager" refused to give a new one because she claimed all her workers worn hair nets and it was no way that could've happened. This is ridiculous. They do not prioritize the customers needs or satisfaction. I would never spend my money here again! DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Yelp
OMG YALLLL THIS PLACE HAS THE BEST TACOS AND TORTA IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. i still think about it days later like i just wish i was still there. Post HTX has cute vibes overall and there's sm parking + other yummy stuff to try !! I got the barbacoa torta and the quesabirria tacos w/ consome :) can't wait to go again !!

Jeremy C.

Yelp
Baja shrimp taco was sensational!!! Service was good and food came out liking hot quickly!
google avatar

Natalie A.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered a selection of tacos as well as other options. The Texan tacos we got the chicken, steak, and brisket . They were so delicious, full of flavor and really BIG. We also ordered one birria taco and it was also delicious although it was a little dry. We got the ramen Birria which I was absolutely looking forward to eat . Unfortunately I was super disappointed. The broth had a strong taste of tomato paste and that is it . I didn't taste the richness of the broth at all . The Mexican corn were good but not the best. It was overly salty. Overall we enjoyed the tacos the most honestly.
google avatar

Jonaya P.

Yelp
Tried them at POST. Had the churros, definitely didn't like - had a weird aftertaste. Had one quesibirria taco with chicken. Was okay. Paid $12 for my food all together. Wouldn't eat here again.
google avatar

Shana H.

Yelp
The food used to be really good. The last couple times were mediocre. They're now charging separately for the Birria dipping sauce.
google avatar

Jawon T.

Yelp
OMG I had the Birria tacos, chicken / beef and Mexican Corn. OMG everything was so delicious. I was in town for the weekend, now I'm back home in NOLA. I wish there was a location here or somewhere I can get the same quality birria tacos. I've been thinking about these tacos every day now. LOL
google avatar

Alberto M.

Yelp
Overall a good experience. Long story short: get the birria tacos; skip the pupusas; get the consumé only if you really want it. Came to Post on a whim with my gf and her best friend. We had a great time on a hot Texas summer day. We spent a lot of time hanging out on the roof and had a Modelo each. We were craving a cocktail de mariscos and finally settled on some food from here. We shared beef birria tacos, beef birria pupusas, and the consumé (soup to dip the tacos in). The tacos were amazing. Nice and crispy with great flavoring. I think the tortilla itself was a little fried so that's more non traditional but I loved it. The pupusas were okay. It's not really a Mexican dish so i think Fuego was going for a Mexican fusion but it lands a little flat. The outer shell was too grainy (similar to how I would describe a dry falafel) which was kinda weird for a Pupusa. They usually are supposed to be more silky like a tamal. I think maybe the Mexican inspiration pushed it more towards a gordita but it was just overall okay. The consumé was good, but $2.50 for a cup size which is usually part of the deal for these tacos. Will definitely try it again another day, but will likely just stick to the tacos and mix and match food from other stands.
google avatar

Sammy B.

Yelp
The best tacos!! The quesabirria de res was AMAZING. So much favor and texture. Highly recommend getting the birria consome to dip your tacos into. I've never devoured tacos so fast. Also got the Texan taco which was delicious. I can't say enough great things about this place. Service was really fast too!!
google avatar

Arlene G.

Yelp
Tried this place at The Post. I have been wanting to try quesabirria tacos for a minute. This place came highly recommended and the line was very long, comparatively. It did take sometime to get through the line. I hated how hard it was to find seating at this place, so I probably will never return to this location. But everything was hot and tasty! I also ordered elote and a pupusa. Baby...that pupusa was honestly the star of the show. Everything was reasonably priced.
google avatar

Tori J.

Yelp
I should have taken a picture before digging in but the fries are delicious! I'm actually sad I decided to share them.
