"Taco Gordo should be at the top of your list for Burlington tacos. After operating as a food truck for four years, Taco Gordo moved into its counter-order, West Coast-inspired restaurant location in Burlington’s Old North End in 2018 and has been serving tacos and burritos ever since. Enjoy your carnitas, al pastor, or tinga tacos (or the Gordo Supreme burrito!) alongside a margarita or paloma. Bonus: Taco Gordo operates a creemee stand, “Little Gordo” at a separate location in downtown Burlington." - Anna Darrow, Heather Platt

Drinks are always on point and tacos fresh. They have a small menu so it’s hard to mess up when you have perfected a few items. It’s a cute neighborhood spot so act like you have some sense in there and enjoy the vibe

Yummy good food! Get there early enough to have the al pastor- can’t miss it.

This is not a fancy place and it's not in a fancy part of town but get past that and you'll enjoy great drinks and excellent tacos. And yes, you CAN have excellent tacos in Burlington Vermont. We arrived ahead of their opening at 5:00 pm and were one of the first tables in. When I left at 6:30, the queue was down the block and in the rain. Yes, these tacos are that excellent. I went with a variety - one chicken, one asada and one carnitas. With it, a local beer that was served cold and went well. Served street taco style - double tortillas and topped with cilantro and onions, the carnitas was good and the chicken was good but the carne asada was fabulous. The beef was tender and flavorful and there was plenty of it. Friendly service and an industrial feel with tables and chairs that don't match. And that's okay because it's all about the food at Taco Gordo.

Google
Delicious tacos, fast and friendly service, solid atmosphere. Got a couple of pork tacos, including Al Pastor, and both were delightful! We were in a hurry and they were mindful of that, getting us our food quickly and making sure we were right on time.

Google
Great food, good drinks, reasonable prices. The house marg was solid for $10. Well composed and tasty tostadas, burritos and tacos. Excellent chips, OK salsa. Hot sauces lean on the mild side, but are tasty.

Taco gordo was an excellent choice for the evening. Cheap tacos, beautiful drinks, amazing service by the staff. Great communication between everyone and I couldn’t have asked for a better time at taco gordo. Shoutout to Jackson, he was super helpful and was very fun to chat to. He is a legend. I heavily recommend coming here.

Google
The food is great but the service is hit or miss. It’s definitely a cool spot to check out and maybe do takeout. Someone came over to take our order and there was brief confusion with the menu, instead of offering assistance the server said “would you like another minute” and we said no, instead of continuing to take our order once the person in our party had a second to reset/re-read the menu the server just walked away then never came back to our table. The gentleman at the host stand ended up coming over to take our order. I’ll probably do takeout if I come back in the future as the food is great but I’m 50/50 on if I’ll dine in again.

Google
Immaculate vibes. The Al pastor was phenomenal. Nice crust on the pork, I’ve never had a crunch to my Al pastor before, it adds a wonderful flavor and texture. Guacostada was also very good. Elote was all right. This place is a can’t miss for sure.

Yelp
Pretty tasty food, I remember it being more expensive than I thought. Very filling and the meat had so much flavor. Everything tasted so fresh!

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. This is solely based off customer service. Specifically the guy who was verbally abusive working the front door of taco gordo Halloween party. Not only was he condescending, saying all of his friends would get to enter in front of everyone standing in line but that he was going to do so all night, anytime any of them arrived and he didn't really care what anyone else thought. All said in a I don't give a shit attitude. Maybe you should since you have what started out as loyal customers who are now freezing outside and have been waiting. So disappointed. Get a clue and know that customers deserve better. Never coming back.

Yelp
I like the tacos pastor, toppings, hot sauces, music, funky atmosphere. Some servers very friendly! The outside is nice in warmer weather. Order at back counter, pickup, or at bar you can order from server. Limited menu, not everything is great but all adequate, some good. Selection of tequilas and mezcal. Fun place! Sometimes events with dj.

Yelp
This place is the real deal. Service is outstanding, we sat at the bar and the bartenders were friendly and drinks are delicious only to be topped by the out of this world tacos. It's a scene for sure but worth the trip when in Burlington.

Mike J.

Yelp
A fist punch to the face with Mexican flavors and invigorating authenticity. A Brooklyn bar in Vermont as far as atmosphere goes. Absolutely loved everything I ate and the margaritas were quite refreshing. Order at the counter and wait for the chariot to bring you your paradise. One of my new favorite places to visit in the area.

Steve M.

Yelp
What a great place! We were in Burlington, VT for a night and looking for a place to eat in walking distance from our hotel. This was on our radar. Small but friendly and welcoming place. We sat at the bar ordered food and drinks from the friendly wait staff. Food was GREAT! If we are ever in Burlington again we will be eating here again! Thanks Taco Gordo for being a great place!!

Yelp
When I visited Burlington, I did not expect to have such amazing tacos, yet here we are months later and I'm still raving about them. We were lucky enough to stay across the street from Taco Gordo, which made it a no brainer to come here after tying one on. Wow! These were some damn good tacos. I ordered the chorizo, Al pastor and tinga - all 3 rocked my world. In fact, my buddy who lives in TX couldn't stop talking about how good these tacos were. They have a convenient take out only window and let you mix and match tacos, which is sadly less common than you might think. Prices are totally worth it for what you get. I will go out of my way to come back the next time I'm in Burlington.

Caitlin D.

Yelp
Amazing food and drinks here. In the summer the patio is beautiful and they have a great indoor atmosphere throughout the year. The chips and house red salsa is so good in my opinion. A fun twist on Mexican cuisine that you will start to crave specifically.

Patrick B.

Yelp
Funky Taco Place Nice Outdoor Seating Minimal Menu and options Food is Tasty Expensive for the Super Small Portions Only took one picture which was Elote Char Broiled Corn with Creme and scallions $6.00

Yelp
Taco Gordo is a seat yourself-type restaurant that caters to a young Burlington population. Two things that you must know about Taco Gordo. 1. $5 tacos, $4 chips and salsa, $15 burritos 2. Taco Gordo's music can be heard from outside their dining room. Seat yourself accordingly. If traveling through the area, it's worth missing.

Jon D.

Yelp
Tacos... in Vermont. Good Service and Sauces, would've enjoyed their other options of meats but they ran out. "That's all I gotta say about that"

Blaise A.

Yelp
I didn't know that Vermont had good tacos. Totally unexpected, very happy. Guy Fieri ate here.

Roberto G.

Yelp
A hair overpriced but it's hands down the best taco and burrito joint in Burlington. Flavorful food, strong cocktails.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. The tacos are fresh, cheap and delicious; the drinks are divine. I have been here twice and it's always excellent. The al pastor sells out quickly (and it makes total sense-it's that good), the brisket and tinga are also delicious. All the meats are tender and juicy. The chips are fresh and warm and the salsa is pureed versus chunky and homemade. The guacamole is excellent and made also in-house. The N/A Tepache fresh pineapple soda is refreshing. The 2-3 person boozy drink name and flavor changes all the time, but is well worth the price. The beers are cheap; $3-4 although you can spend up to $8. It's a no frills, perfect place to get some fairly authentic Mexican grub.

D H.

Yelp
Such a great place. One of our favorite in Burlington and reasonably priced. The best tacos in Vermont and the service and staff has always been top notch! Great outdoor seating or a spot at the bar where you watch the excellent flow of the staff working hard to make sure everyone is happy. The hibiscus tea is so good and the beer and drink menu is excellent. Don't miss it!

Forkwitch S.

Yelp
$5 for the tiniest little guacamole-to-go you can imagine. $9 for the tiniest little margarita-to-go you could imagine. No wonder they staple the bag shut when you get take-out, because they don't want you to look inside it and give them a wtf response. Twenty-three dollars plus tax and tip, down the drain! We would have demanded a refund but got too far by the time we opened the bag.

Oliver L.

Yelp
Brisket taco was super juicy and tasty. Great, friendly service. Super cool calm atmosphere, music.

Lauri Y.

Yelp
Yum! Everything we got was tasty. Guacostada was awesome - get a couple! Very tasty carnitas. We sat outside. You grab and table and then go inside to order and wait for the very friendly staff to bring your food and bevvies. We loved it here. If we lived local, it would be a very regular habit!

Yelp
We hit up taco gordo our first night in town and we were not disappointed. The tortillas were fresh and soft and delicious. We had two burritos and a taco, the kale salad, chips salsa and guacamole to share. We also had the aqua Fresca and some drinks. The adobo chicken burrito was flavorful with a little kick. The meat was fall apart shredded and the combination with rice and the home made beans hit the spot! Definitely get the shredded cabbage - it adds great texture and a fresh flavor. The brisket was also fall apart delicious, I topped it with all the goodies... shredded cabbage, hot peppers, some lime juice, radish slices and pickled onions - and a little bit of Salsa and guacamole- so many flavors and textures... so good! And the tortillas made me so happy - so good! The third burrito we got for a kid who doesn't eat adventurously... so we hade lots of things on the side and the team at taco Gordo hit a home run - I am so thankful for the attention to detail and getting things they way we needed them so be done. The tortilla chips are also something to write he about - crispy, airy really. Fresh and just the right amount of salt. These are really worth getting! And the drink at the bar while I waited for take was sooo good... for half a second I thought I would get a beer ... I am so glad I ventured into the cocktail list... beautiful presentation and complex flavor ... This place is with stopping in!

Florence V.

Yelp
Good tacos, don't like how they nickel and dime you for the sauce that usually comes with the tacos. For $4-$5 a taco, the sauce should come with it but they charge you $0.50 each. They also just give you one tortilla for each taco so if you are ordering to-go the taco will start to fall apart once you pick it up.

Kelly C.

Yelp
Stellar cocktail, delicious food, great crowd & awesome serviceChips and Salsa Guacamole Combo

Joy Z.

Yelp
Youthful ambiance. Fresh tasty food. For the above I would return. 2 burritos 1 nonalcoholic beer 20% tip $48 For this I should have a fork, knife and plate. Not a plastic basket, paper, foil and fork. By the end the paper is soggy and I was happy for napkins at the table.

Noah G.

Yelp
I keep hearing about taco gordo and how great it is, i had to try it out. I they were closed for in person dining, so i opted for a burrito rather than tacos (i find that they hold up better for takeout). Overall a solid meal but a little disappointing. I got a tinga burrito w guac and found it to be very average. Nothing about it screamed "best in burlington" to me. The tinga wasnt bad, the tortilla could have been rolled better, but tasted fresh, and i liked the choice of cabbage over lettuce. Seemed like a cool atmosphere inside however. Probably a better place to dine in if i come back...

Rei M.

Yelp
Mixed bag here. Visiting Burlington, we had heard good things and read mostly great reviews, so we were excited to try it out. We wanted to try a few different meats so we got 3 different tacos, the carnitas, al pastor, and chicken tinga. The carnitas taco was amazing, al pastor was a close second. Tinga was extremely disappointing, very bland, a little dry. The corn tortillas they use are really good, but I wish they'd use two per taco, not just one. I feel like two tortillas is pretty standard, and also stops the taco from tearing. $5 for one taco is steep for the size of these. They have a topping and salsa bar by the exit/entrance, which is a nice touch if you're eating there, but to-go they charge for sauces. If I lived in the area, I'd probably go back to try some other options (and have the carnitas again), but if I'm just visiting for a day, maybe tacos just aren't the move if these are the best in town.

Yelp
Very busy, but each dish seems to be prepared with care! Service is great. Wish they have more vegetarian options!

Mathew M.

Yelp
First time at this place. Walked there from a parking garage a few blocks away. Not gonna lie was close to turning back(not the nicest neighborhood). Soon as we walked around the corner to where this place is I immediately changed my mind and forgot what the neighborhood was like. The atmosphere there was amazing. A lot of really cool and interesting people. The food was amazing. I got a carnitas burrito and it was perfect. So yummy. I definitely recommend this wonderful hidden treasure in Burlington, VT.

David J.

Yelp
Really excited that this place opened up in Burlington. I first tried this when they had their stand on Church Street. Overall, I think these are the best tacos that Burlington offers. And that says a lot as I am a native to California! The Al pastor is my favorite (better go in early, because they do run out!) also recommend the chopped brisket tacos and the chicken! You can't go wrong with any option honestly. The carnitas was my friends favorite so like I said you can't go wrong with any choice. Drinks were good too! Only suggestion is that the drinks seems to be more ice than actual drink, and served in small glass cups. Service was great! Host and bar tender are really attentive to everyone and get the orders and drinks out fast! Last small suggestion would be that the guacamole and salsa that come with the chips are limited in portion size so I would've loved for that to have more added to the order. And music didn't really fit the ambience of the place overall but that was minimal. Must try!

Blue J.

Yelp
Awesome tacos!! Had Carnitas, Brisket, and chicken-all amazing!!! The Margs to-go are a must as well. I got to-go and everyone was super friendly!

Ian A.

Yelp
I have been following Taco Gordo on IG for a while now and finally got to try them when work sent me to Burlington. I'm a taco snob and Taco Gordo is one of the best I've ever had. If I lived nearby I would eat here everyday. I will be back the next time I'm in Burlington for sure.

Arianna C.

Yelp
this food is so nasty i had to spit it out. if u aren't mexican or don't know what the food taste like then u might enjoy this but this was genuinely the worst mexican food ever. E.g. the creama (sour cream) tasted like spoiled milk; mexican sour cream taste the same as american sour cream but it's salty. Truly to any mexicans/other latinos in VT don't go.

Happy F.

Yelp
Hipster tacos but very tasty. Hot sauces are incredible! My wife and i tried a bunch of different items and each one was amazing.

Ronica P.

Yelp
I miss eating here while the tacos are nice and hot and you can add all the toppings you'd like. *the good ol' days*. Anyway, I have used Taco Gordo's catering services twice now and they have been absolutely fantastic. The first time was pre-COVID for a buffet style meal. Everything was delicious and it was more than enough food for about 40-50 people. The second event was yesterday that required two separate deliveries. Charlie was timely and was more than willing to answer my 100s of questions while I tried to accommodate the dietary restrictions of my coworkers. We ordered a total of ~100 burritos with a side of chips and salsa all packed individually for each person. We also were able to order a few rice bowls for our gluten-free coworkers- it was great to work with such an accommodating owner. Everything was perfect. Thank you, Charlie and Taco Gordo!

Zack D.

Yelp
We tried 4 tacos carnitas, al pastor, brisket and shrimp(special of the day) with chips, salsa and horchata. Tacos were all amazing. Super flavorful. Carnitas was my favorite but it was a close call nothing was hot or spicy but they do have sauces on the side if you prefer some heat. Horchata seemed sweeter than a lot that I've had but it was very good. Definitely recommend!

Larry R.

Yelp
Two tacos were pretty, and dry. But greasy. I didn't really think that was possible. Bordered on inedible. Overpriced. I'll make this at home.

Amy C.

Yelp
The chicken tinga was really really salty. Not sure if it's just today or if it's normally like this. The chips were also very salty. I want to give this place the benefit of the doubt, so gave it 3 stars.

Pam P.

Yelp
Below mediocre and expensive . really hard to bite chips and they charge u almost $4 for tiny bit of guacamole:/. Not going again .

Emma K.

Yelp
Cheap, delicious food- highly recommend the El Pastor taco if it's available. But parking is VERY limited and seating is hard to get past 6:00pm.

Sharan C.

Yelp
BEWARE CREDIT CARD SCAMMERS... pay cash is you have to dine here. They have stolen my credit card

Olga K.

Yelp
Great Tacos! Great aqua fresca! 100% recommend eating in because you get access to the topping bar!

Mark Z.

Yelp
Don't judge a book by it's cover, this place is legit! My wife and I took a suggestion from the owner of our Air BnB for some good tacos, and we are glad we did. The place does not try to look tacky with over the top Mexican decor. It just has a laid back atmosphere and minimalist feel. They have a simple small menu which can help with food quality. They have a decent selection of craft beer and cocktails here as well. We decided to order chips and salsa as a starter. There was a good amount of chips and the salsa had a spicy kick. I decided to get a chorizo taco and two al pastor tacos. The chorizo was very flavorful and spicy. Al pastor were so juicy and I see why they sell out every evening. If you love tacos, go here now!

Andréas O.

Yelp
As a west coaster, I like to think of myself as a bit of a taco connoisseur. Taco Gordo is the best food in the greater Burlington. Do yourself a favor and eat here. Eat the al pastor and the tinga, order a margarita, and then thank me later. I will say, a taco technically comes with two corn tortillas--get it together Taco Gordo! But for real, go eat here. Now. This place is the best. ***** Update. It's been a couple of weeks and I've eaten here a million time. Still the best food in town.

Hetal P.

Yelp
Different Horchata with cashews in it. Rich in taste. Food was small potion and the dips were good.

Vanessa B.

Yelp
I've been to taco gordo so many times in the past few weeks and have tried all the tacos on the menu. Everything is so delicious and flavorful but also authentic! You know you've got real tacos when they come on corn tortillas and topped with only onions and cilantro. My favorites here are the carnitas and the bean but seriously, everything on the menu is amazing!! Best tacos in Burlington for sure!!!

Aneesh S.

Yelp
Located off the beaten path compared to most Burlington restaurants, this place is a must visit for taco lovers. The tacos are reasonably priced and really tasty. Beware: vegetarian options are pretty weak. Also, come early in the evening as they often sell out of their most popular tacos or specials. One improvement would be to serve tacos on 2 tortillas so you don't have to worry about all that juicy flavor ripping through! Margaritas are small but strong and the spicy marg is a must.

Renee T.

Yelp
Good tacos. I was not a fan of the chips and salsa but the tacos were decent. You order at the counter and they give you a number to deliver your tacos.

Laurel C.

Yelp
Amazing food for low cost. We got to go and were fed like queens with two tacos for very little $. Tasty, well cooked, and the sauces offered on the side were delicious! Nice people. Popular place. Easy parking.

Gonzalo P.

Yelp
I only review great Hidden Gems and this is one of them! Unless, you live in Burlington,VT, you will have a hard time finding it! They served me the crispiest and juiciest pork belly taco. They have five different hot sauces and you can tell that they are homemade and the labels on the spicyness was spot on. As it got darker outside, the place became more vibrant, with the right type of music and a great cheery ambience. I tried the Pork Belly Tacos twice, Al Pastor Taco and the Carnitas and you cannot go wrong with any of them. The place is small, but has a nice 10 chair bar and about 10 tables, so get there early or you may miss your spot, as this place can only get better!

John M.

Yelp
Awesome! A little greasy but I think that's what makes carnitas so delicious!! Don't miss the house made lacto fermented curtido!! Never seen it north of Mexico. Wonderful tangy coleslaw. Probiotic, too. Take our order was perfect. Staff waited to ice our horchata until we got there for pick up. Can't say enough good things about this place. Thinking about transferring to UVM, just to eat here.
