Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to get tacos in Austin Texas. I know have been to both of their locations and it's safe to safe I am a fan I think spot is in my rotation when I come to Austin. Food: my go to taco is their beef fajita. My god, I am not sure how the season it but it's the best I've ever had. So much flavor and very tender. The breakfast taco that I always get is: bacon, egg, cheese and potato. So good and full of flavor. Their tacos are huge here! Yuge! 2-3 tacos from here and you will be stuffed for hours. This is my go to spot along with the other Location. We will be back soon.

Yelp
Solid service and decent Mexican food & tacos. I got the fried fish taco ($4.75), the steak, egg, and cheese taco (4.50$), and the enchilada fires with chicken (9.50$). The fried fish taco was decent. The steak, egg, and cheese taco was very good and was easily my favorite item. The enchiladas fries with chicken was very underwhelming and not worth it at all. I paid 3$ for chicken and got a small side of chicken added and was told that there nothing that could be done to possibly give me more to make up for small amount.. The two sauces I got for my tacos were the chipotle and the honey habanero. The chipotle sauce was pretty good but the honey habanero was too hot and wasn't for me. All in all, it was a decent Mexican experience but nothing very memorable besides the breakfast steak n cheese taco.

Yelp
This is the GOAT of tacos. The migas chancla is the hangover cure and a small piece of heaven. But don't come here because I don't want to wait a million hours

Midhat P.

Yelp
Amazing. Tables inside and out are first come first serve, very chill place. The tacos are the best breakfast tacos I've had. Highly recommend the Chancla. Try the salsas they're all great.

Yelp
My friends that went to UT Austin and also those that moved to Texas mention about this place, so I decided to check this place out. On a hot 90+ degree Fahrenheit day, I was so glad this place is a brick and mortar place, not another food truck, to soak in some AC. On Saturday, there was happy hour for the whole day - great surprise! We tried 4 tacos and each got a 12oz margarita (the small size) - which was only $4 (plus 50 cents for salt rim). Chorizo & egg - pretty standard. The tortilla is toasted and slightly crunchy. For the amount of topping they give, $3 is such an amazing price. One taco is good for a light meal. Migas - this one was more substantial - in addition to egg, there were diced tomatoes, tortilla crisps, etc. This is a classic Texas breakfast taco staple, and they did it right here! El 4/20 - beef carnitas with fried potato sticks - this was quite interesting. The meat is solid but the potato made this a bit too heavy for my liking Street taco - has avocado, sirloin, onion - this felt a bit overpriced but it was good. I love the freshness of the avocado, and that they give a lot of meat. However, for best value, definitely stick with the breakfast tacos. For each taco, you can choose a salsa of your choice, which enhances your experience quite a bit. We got red, green, avocado, and peanut salsas, and I really enjoyed the peanut salsa as it is primarily peanut sauce with light elements of salsa, and it was quite different. Happy hour is amazing - the margarita we ordered were very strong, that if I had 2, I would be sufficiently drunk. All for the price of $4.50 (if you get it with salt rim which I recommend). The pricing and quantity of food make this a college student's paradise - and this is why it is so popular amongst UT Austin students, and one of my friends actually goes here almost every lunch.

Yelp
Really enjoyed Taco Joint! Nice little hole in the wall. Very quick in and out service. Pretty big sized tacos- really yummy !! Worth the value

Vinu V.

Yelp
I could change my tune from taco Tuesday to taco everyday if I lived near this place. Seriously this place is at least worth a try. Grab a menu, place your order at the register and find a seat somewhere where your not drooling on other peoples' tacos! There's not much room when it's packed but so far I've been able to find a seat when I go and I was with two fairly good sized groups. Bacon and Egg Taco, El Senior Crockett, Potato Egg and Cheese Taco, Street Taco

Christopher C.

Yelp
Great Austin spot! Highly recommend stopping by here! The food is spot-on and quite filling! Highly recommend. FOOD: street taco is a wonderful take on a steak and cotija cheese taco and the fried fish taco is a MUST! I ordered it alongside an avocado and chipotle sauce and I cannot recommend it enough! Not terrible in price and not too long of a wait! Cheers

K D.

Yelp
Always great options and very tasty food! My go to spot for breakfast (and other meal) tacos when in the Austin area, especially the micas tacos

Keerthana C.

Yelp
I think this is my favorite taco spot and that's something I don't say lightly!! The tacos are so fun and big (I can usually feel pretty full off of just one). I got the seared fish taco, which comes with cotija cheese and a little slaw. We also tried the nachos which I really recommend if you need an appetizer- it tastes freshly made and comes in a huge serving. Salsa recs: Get two you don't want to skimp on this!! Peanut is creamy, a little spicy, and very nutty, is definitely one of my favorites. Avocado is more light and this one pairs well with any taco I think. Chipotle is this kind of sweet/spice flavor, one of my favorites too!

Yelp
Two years ago, my good friend Juan told me that his favourite restaurant near campus was Taco Joint. He spent six years as an engineering PhD student at UT eating at Taco Joint, which is close to the engineering buildings on campus. Two years after he told me about this place that meant so much to him, I have tasted its famous tacos. I had the chorizo, egg, and cheese breakfast taco, the fried fish taco, and el 4/20. The breakfast and fish tacos were so good, and I would definitely get them again. El 4/20 was too meaty, and the potato sticks were an interesting concept, but I wouldn't get it again. I miss you, Juan. Hopefully one day you will come back to Austin, and we can eat at Taco Joint together.

Shaan D.

Yelp
Taco Joint has yet to disappoint me. I used to come many many times when I was a student at UT, and I just love it so much I keep coming back. My friend and I couldn't decide where to go so we went with our trusty go-to. Today I got my usual street taco and then I tried the chicken mole for the first time. Street taco was awesome, and the chicken mole was pretty good. I just think it had too much cabbage on it and the mole could have used a little more flavor. But the red salsa and mango habanero salsa were excellent. This is a really simple, no-frills joint, hence the name. Tacos come out fast and hot. I love their breakfast tacos too and that they're served all day. You just cant go wrong.

Parsa K.

Yelp
Top 5 breakfast tacos in the city. Both the street tacos and the steak and Gouda are perfect.

Christy L.

Yelp
Taco joint has been a fan favorite even since I was in college. It's very close to UT and easily accessible as an after class snack/ meal. This time, I went for breakfast and ordered bacon/egg/cheese, chorizo/ egg, and potato/egg/cheese breakfast tacos. - bacon/egg/cheese: very yummy bfast taco with fluffy eggs and generous amount of bacon. I ate this with the chipotle salsa and it paired very well. Downside was that it was very oily :( -chorizo/egg: a good taco, very solid. I paired this with the red salsa and it worked very well. - potato/egg/cheese: crispy potatoes + buttery/fluffy eggs. This taco is FAT. Eat this with the red salsa- the acidity really cuts through the butter/ fluffy eggs... mmm soo delicious. All the tacos come with a flour tortilla that has a good amount of chew without being too tough. It's nicely buttered and toasted. Not much to hate about this place! Came on MLK day and had to wait 20 ish minutes bc it was packed. Also due to covid, there's no more self serve salsa bar :/ Each taco only comes with 1 tiny cup of salsa now.

Mellissa M.

Yelp
These really might be the best breakfast tacos in Austin. I dream about them. However, this place is the definition of no frills: zero ambiance, nothing on the walls, carpet & furniture badly need to be replaced. The service is also plain bad. We ordered a black coffee and a black cold brew with our tacos and never received them, and the person at the register who had taken our order five minutes prior had completely forgotten about them -- she even asked to see our receipt. When she took our order, she also asked multiple times what types of salsa we wanted, and we said all salsa verde. As you can see, we only received red salsa regardless. Why am I still giving this place 4 stars? Because the food is just so damn good.

Vennela P.

Yelp
Amazing taco place! It's very affordable and the flavors are unique and delicious. Love that they have a lot of vegetarian options! Definitely my favorite taco place in Austin!

Darian C.

Yelp
These tacos are sooo good! I'm a engineering student at UT and I go here so much after classes. The tacos are a large portion and usually one fills me up! The tacos are pretty greasy but still super good. I usually get the street taco and replace the meat with chicken and it's really good. Their chipotle sauce goes well with everything and if I'm feeling really hungry i get their potato, egg and cheese breakfast taco which they serve all day. They're really busy usually but it's definitely worth the wait!

Caitlyn S.

Yelp
Yeah dude this place is fire. Good chonky tacos that fill you up. Not soggy even when we ordered takeout. But what's the real showstopper are the salsas! That chipotle salsa.... Pleasantly sweet and not spicy imo! Had online ordering for easy pickup!

Philip B.

Yelp
This place is the backbone of UT Engineering. Without it we would all starve to death. Their Pastorito tacos are delicious asf. Not that cheap but whattaya gonna do? It's Austin.

Shyan E.

Yelp
Today I purchased 9 breakfast tacos at this place. All of them were to go orders. I paid about $32.00 and wait for almost 1/2 hour. After arriving at home we found only 6 tacos. After calling them, they said it is normal and these kind of errors can happen. I am wondering why these kind of mistakes normally shows up as missing tacos rather than extra tacos!!! So, for to go order at this place always count your tacos as they expect these kind of mistakes to happen. In other words do not trust them.

Emily N.

Yelp
Great service Food comes out quickly (8 min with 10+ people ahead of me) Indoor and outdoor dining available Self-service (order at counter, pick up food from kitchen, clean tables yourself) Reasonable prices ($3 for breakfast tacos) Sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast taco 3.5/5 - sausage is the frozen kind that's on top of frozen pizzas, nothing special - wouldn't get again but didn't taste "bad" Ham, egg, and cheese breakfast taco 5/5 - cubed ham! my favorite! Chorizo, egg, and cheese breakfast taco 5/5 - flavorful! fresh!

Yelp
Central Austin taco location, near the UT Campus. This place was pretty delicious, a bit on the pricier end around $4.50 per taco (non-breakfast). Although it was a bit pricey, the tacos were bigger than other places! I usually get 3 tacos from places but I think 2 would've been enough. Out of the 3 (street, pastorito, fried fish), my favorite was the pastorito. The flavors mixed and matched really well for it. Got green and habanero salsa, I know my roommates really enjoyed their chipotle one as well. The street taco felt like it was missing something but still tasted pretty good! The fried fish was a bit on the overcooked side so maybe next time I gotta try their grilled fish! :O Would still come over again next time when there's a crave for tacos and I'm nearby.

Cathy L.

Yelp
Dropped by taco joint on my visit to Austin. I ordered a street taco and a fried fish taco. I was debating if I should get a third one but wow the portion was huge! A taco was more of the size of a burrito. I had trouble even finishing two. The tacos were so delicious and the sauces that were provided were very good as well. I am so happy I was able to come here!

Jina Z.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to eat near campus (I don't even go here anymore) at any time and for any occasion. I once fainted and was taken to the ER and upon discharge immediately walked over to taco joint to have a lovely meal with my friends. Taco joint has always been there for me and I will always come back!! Service is friendly and fast and the food is delicious! You order at the front and are given a number that gets called when your food is ready (for both dine in and take out). Dine in is self service/clean up and there are plenty of napkins and sporks at your disposal - helpful for the large and sometimes messy tacos Potato egg and cheese taco ($3.50) is my absolute favorite, especially when drowned in their amazing chipotle salsa. The flour tortilla is buttery and chewy in a good way and the potatoes slap. The chipotle salsa is the greatest sauce I've ever had and I would actually pay a lot of money for a recipe :0 Unfortunately but understandably they don't have the self service salsa bar anymore so each taco only comes with one small cup of salsa and I believe additional sauce costs extra Other tacos I enjoy here are the fish taco and the street taco, but I usually just get the heavenly potato egg and cheese unless I'm feeling extra hungry I've also tried some of their coffee drinks and enjoyed them, but probably wouldn't go out of my way for coffee here

Jon M.

Yelp
Great food! From out of town just looking at UT and stumbled across the Taco Joint. Excellent find. Highly recommended

Paul M.

Yelp
Best tacos in Austin not even close. Everything there is amazing and the people are great at both locations.

Alma G.

Yelp
Order the Chancla Taco.. egg, potatoes, refried beans,migas,avocado.. best I've had in a long time

Kazuko G.

Yelp
A nice little place to get tacos near campus. The tacos are tasty and the service is quick although it gets busy during lunch. I love getting tacos here between classes even though it is a bit of a walk. I hope it'll be easier to get food near now that it is summer time and won't have to deal with all us college students. :)

Eden B.

Yelp
This place hits every time! Great service and the food never misses. We usually get the migas tostadas, and the breakfast tacos - try them out!

Emily K.

Yelp
My favorite taco spot in Austin!!! Taco Joint is consistently fresh & delicious. I would recommend trying either their el Senor Crockett or seared fish taco. The el Senor Crockett comes with beef, onions, peppers, and smokey gouda, which has an amazing flavor. The seared fish taco is served with "honey lime cabbage slaw, cilantro, and conjita cheese." You can't go wrong with either of these tacos. The street taco (which has avocados) is also a good choice. For breakfast, I usually go with the potato/bean and cheese. The tacos here are always so well seasoned! I'd definitely recommend trying the sauces they have in the restauraunt; if you are taking your tacos to go, they have cups you can put them in. If you are in Austin and want some amazing tacos, this is the place!

Danielle G.

Yelp
This place rules, monster portions and so delicious it'll kick the hangover right out of you. I ordered a chorizo taco because that's the first thing I smelled coming through the door, and also a potato egg and cheese. The chick taking my order was super nice and speedy. Got my food so fast on a Thursday morning that I didn't have time to put sugar in my coffee. Tacos were stuffed with eggs. They will probably be a little dry if you don't add the red or green salsa (both really fresh), but then you've got to ask yourself why the heck aren't you adding salsa, freak? And you can tell their doing raw tortillas on the flat top, they're not thick like off-the-shelf crap, crisp without being dry. It's a little lame that they don't do cups of water (you have to buy a bottle) but hey an extra buck to a local biz never bothered me. The food is real good and the vibe is fire.

Tracey Z.

Yelp
THE absolute best taco place in the UT area. Such great, pretty authentic tacos for a very reasonable price. During non covid times the wait is pretty long but that's just a testament to how delicious their food is. This time I got the portobella fajita and the el tree hugger to test their vegan options. The portobello taco was decent - the portobello and green bell pepper combination paired well, it was not flavored that much though. Even with chipotle sauce drizzled on top, there still was not much flavor to the taco. The el tree hugger though was the real winner. It's made with veggie burger strips that taste like real meat - if you didn't tell me it was vegan I would not know. There was so much flavor in each bite, I wish I got two of these. The tortilla added a nice texture to balance everything out, plus the edges were crunchier! I would highly recommend the chicken fajita or the street taco for meat lovers! The el tree hunger for vegans!

Yelp
After waiting 20 minutes for a to-go order of tamales at 3pm and with nobody else waiting for food at this point, I asked how much longer until my food was out and was told by the condescending guy (grey shirt, blk hat, facial hair) taking orders that this isn't fast food and they're not a McDonald's. But honestly, if McDonald's had tamales, I'd go there over here any time bc their customer service is shockingly better. Total wait for 4 tamales: 35 minutes. I'd hate to know how long it takes during their peak hours. Tamales looked like they'd had a rough life. Oh and just a tip, they refuse to do easy ice in their ice coffee and when I asked why (bc I don't like tons of ice), he said "I don't make the rules..." Also they gave me no utensils or napkins which is probably the biggest difference between here and McDonald's.

Shannon B.

Yelp
Yo, (hundreds of other taco places in Austin), I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but Taco Joint has one of the best barbacoa tacos of all time. Of all time! So meaty! So flavorful! So not greasy (unlike every other barbacoa I ever order around here). Not to mention, they treat their flour tortillas right! These light & fluffy things are heated up on the flat top until they get ever-so-slightly puffed & browned, and then your delicious warm fillings are folded in. Any other taco place who thinks they can just grab a cold tortilla out of the bag & not have me notice and boycott them forever needs to come watch how the taco-genius ladies at Taco Joint do their work. Let's also talk salsas. Taco Joint has like 7 or 8 versions in the free salsa bar, so go to town and try them all until you find what suits you. Some are too sweet or otherwise odd for my taste, but I love the extra hot habanero one, the avocado lime one (which is basically like getting free guacamole with your meal), and the generic standard red (tomato-based) & green (tomatillo) salsas. We tend to visit here at breakfast time on weekends, so I can't speak to the rest of the menu, but if you like breakfast tacos & good coffee, and I know that you do, and you find yourself near the north side of the UT campus, Taco Joint is your spot. BTW, they serve both the breakfast & lunch menu items in the morning, so don't feel like you need to limit yourself to the typical egg, potato, and bacon options. Bring your own coffee cup, and you can save a buck or two with combo deals. Note that entry is sort of weird - it looks like you're going into Sao Paolo (a Brazilian sister restaurant that closed in 2016), but don't worry, you're at the right place.

Gaurav K.

Yelp
Definitely a local favorite. Place was packed with students from UT. I was surprised they were still asking people to wear masks when masks aren't mandatory anymore. Found it odd. But either way getting past the mask fiasco, went ahead and ordered some tacos and quesadillas. Of course food will taste good when you have drenched your food in oil. Food was super greasy but good taste for sure. Anything in oil and cheese is next level yum. Place has very genuine rustic local feel to it. Service was good. Might comeback if I am in the area again..

Adriana M.

Yelp
So good! I ate lunch here everyday during my trip while I was in Austin. I ate the street taco and the pastorito on flour tortilla. Also try their horchata, it's delicious and not too sweet! Staff is friendly and the place is kept clean! Can't wait to visit again!

Mahika D.

Yelp
Absolutely love the Chicken fajita and migas tacos!!! usually chicken tacos can be dry but this was nice and saucy/juicy! The avocado and chipotle salsas are both amazing. Service was great too, nice workers! Quick to go order

Jason H.

Yelp
COVID Updates: - Outdoor seating for maybe ~3 groups - Hand sanitizer was available - Ordering is still inside the Sao Paulo's side - Staff was all wearing masks - Masks required to enter to order -- Let me paint you a picture: a young engineering student has spent the last 24 hours sitting in the basement lab, breathing in soldering fumes, debugging broken code, and eating random vending machine snacks for sustenance. As said engineering student finally resurfaces, he somehow stumbles across a lowkey taco joint, aptly named Taco Joint, and suddenly, new fumes hit. New, glorious fumes of fresh tortillas. Okay, that's enough. Taco Joint is the best taco joint in Austin. I'll say it. Their tortillas are incredible; even though the price has gone up a bit since my freshman year of college, the value is still great. Even after I've gone back post-college, post-deliriousness, these tacos are one of my top reasons to go back to Austin (sorry, friends). My go-to order every time? One el 4/20, one street taco, one chorizo & egg, and if I'm extra hungry, one fried fish taco, too. The avocado salsa goes on the el 4/20, the green salsa goes on the street taco, and the chipotle salsa goes on the chorizo & egg. The el 4/20 comes with juicy, sweet and tangy tomatoey beef, covered in crunchy crispy papitas (kind of like chips on a taco; it's great). The street taco feels like a classic--beef, avocado, onion, queso fresco. And the chorizo & egg is the perfect balance of spicy, salty, and savory, without being too overpowering. Okay I'll shut up now; just go to Taco Joint.

Yeonhwa S.

Yelp
Can I give like 7 stars for this place please?! I had to go two days in a row because I was craving it the whole day. Their tacos are LEGIT. They recently combined with Sao Paolo next door so if you go into either entrance, you can get Taco Joint tacos. They have really fun hot sauces to try out as well. My favorite was avocado and habanero. Both are super spicy. They also have a full bar, where they sell coffee in the morning as well. I got a glass bottle coke and it was a bit expensive (about $3). Not sure how expensive the plastic bottle ones are. Overall, i really loved this place! definitely will go back many many times xD

Dr. Antonika Chanel L.

Yelp
Not impressed. There's a horrible smell when I walked in. Taco Joint is confused with San Paulo restaurant. It's pretty run down with dirty tables. It's college town so I guess it's ok. I had one taco and it fell apart at the first bite. Just wasn't my thing. Fast food good if you are in a hurry.

Jamey H.

Yelp
Delicious tacos and frozen margaritas. They have so many flavors of homemade salsa too. The staff was friendly as well. I'd definitely recommend this place if you're near the UT campus and hungry!

Luke W.

Yelp
The food was pretty good. I work at UT and my wife came and met me for lunch so we tried this place since it had so many good reviews. I would say the food for the price was pretty good but the atmosphere could use some help the tables were pretty wonky and the booths were pretty beat up. Other wise would have been five stars.

Claudia W.

Yelp
* PRE COVID REVIEW * Taco Joint is so good! Do not judge the quality of the tacos on the looks of this place. This is by far the best spot to get tacos around UT. It's walking distance if you feel like walking a bit and it has a couple of parking spots in the front if you want to drive. There are usually a lot of people here during lunch - you will have to wait in line to order and it may be difficult to find a table - which is a testament to how good the food is. The signage outside is pretty unclear and it kinda looks like a different restaurant, but if there are a lot of hungry students there, you'll know you're at the right place. All of the tacos I've tried have been so good! I would highly recommend the Bacon & egg tacos, Fish tacos (both seared and fried), and Street tacos. The value is really good and the tacos are pretty big. The tortillas are really nice and soft and I would also recommend trying their sauces (but be careful if you can't handle spice like me). Everything always tastes fresh and is juicy! I have not been here since the pandemic started but here's how it works: you walk in and get in line to order at the front, then you get a number on your receipt and wait until they call your number from the kitchen near the left side. Once they call your number you'll get your tacos in these little plastic baskets and can add sauces where you pick up your tacos!

Eint P.

Yelp
This is a must try place for breakfast tacos in Austin! I have to come here every time I visit this city! Their tacos never disappoint. My usuals are potato egg and cheese and the avocado potato tacos. I also love their bacon! It tastes so fresh and crispy! They have many variety for the sauces and make sure to ask for multiples since their containers are super small. This location also has a big lot so no worries about finding parking. I went there recently and they have a mask requirement to go in just as an fyi!

Christina R.

Yelp
High 3.5 overall. Worth a stop for lots of interesting choices and reasonably priced tacos. Pros: generally food was delicious (would especially recommend the tamale); reasonable pricing Cons: flour tortilla on the taco was not very fresh (maybe ask for corn next time); very slow service; tamale could have had more chicken

Joe V.

Yelp
I called today for pick . The guy named Carlos had me on hold for 18 mins. So I went ahead and placed my order online. I guess Carlos forgot he was a work. I don't understand how the only thing your doing is taking orders and forget someone on the phone. When I told the cashier lady about it . Then Carlos decides to take the phone out of his pocket to check. Great service Carlos . I hope people don't do that to you when you call places to put an order in.

Jeonggwan K.

Yelp
It's cheap and tastes good. There are various kinds of sauces available, cheap, and delicious. I'm satisfied with the second one.

Sophie K.

Yelp
Taco Joint has really good tacos, and I'm not just saying that! If you look on you tube, many foodies have featured the delicious tacos you can get. The location we went to is right across from UT Austin, so many students frequent this one. We ordered the fish and shrimp tacos with chips and salsa (hot hot hot- don't get it if you can't take heat or ask for a mild form). This taco spot is high up on my list of favorites in Austin.

Liz O.

Yelp
Super delicious chorizo, egg and cheese taco for breakfast at this kind of taco diner which I did not know was a thing. The atmosphere was total UT with a dad quizzing his daughters boyfriend about the legitimacy of his major at the next table (sports management-- that's a thing right?). Boyfriend, daughter, Dad and I all left better for the visit.

Christina H.

Yelp
It's true what they say, everything is bigger in Texas-- and that goes for Taco Joint's breakfast tacos, which they serve btw all day. Arriving at Taco Joint, you'll be confused. Is it this door that says, "Taco Joint" or the other door that says, "Sao Paolos"? It's the Sao Paolos door.... don't ask me why. I'm not sure either. How it works: You place your order at the counter after entering through the Sao Paolos door. On your receipt, you'll be issued a number. Make sure to listen, because you'll hear the lady yell your number. Your tacos will be placed in the metal rack. In addition to the delicious tacos, I've tried the El Cubano Torta. The El Cubano is served on a toasted telera roll, with pulled pork, grilled onions, jalapeños, garlic mayo, and lettuce. In addition, you get sweetly salted plantain chips... YUM. I don't know how you COULD forget, but load up on the salsas and order a Mexican Coke, because THIS IS WHAT PERFECTS THE MEAL.
