Taco Nazo Review - South El Monte - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The family behind Taco Nazo is originally from Ensenada—the supposed birthplace of the Baja-style fish taco—and since opening their first location four decades ago, they’ve managed to turn delicious beer-battered fish into a mini-empire. Nazo now has six locations across greater East LA, each serving flakey fish on warm corn tortillas with fresh cabbage, pico de gallo, and a big dollop of rich crema that tastes like tangy tartar sauce. If you’re in a hurry, you can use their convenient drive-thru, but don’t be surprised if it takes 20 minutes to get through during the dinner and lunch rush (or even longer during Lent season). We promise the two fish taco combo with creamy frijoles and chips will be worth the bumper-to-bumper lines, though. photo credit: Matt Gendal" - Sylvio Martins

The famous fish taco is famous for a reason. It was crispy with a hint of spice. You should also try the grilled shrimp taco - this shouldn't be missed. Both taco is best paired with their crema. Anita was sweet and attentive to all the customers. She knows her menu and she know how good the foods are.

Google
Taco Nazo has a simple menu and delivers it perfectly. I had the fish and shrimp tacos which were fantastic. Fish is huge and the battered shrimp is amazing. Coupled with their homemade taco sauce and white sauce along with bites of the grilled salt n pepper chile and I was in foodie bliss. Sevice is great. Busy but churns quickly and staff is friendly. Also had a Jaimaca agua fresca to wash it all down.

Google
Been here dozens of times and these are the absolute best fish tacos. Rice and beans are amazing. I used to crave their tortilla chips but last couple of times they haven't been good at all. They must've changed their recipe or supplier because they're kind of nasty now. Will still go there for the tacos and sides but no more chips for me.

Google
Best fish 🐟 tacos around..... Fresh hot and delicious...... Ooh yeah and the shrimp 🍤 tacos ain't bad either.

Google
Went to Taco Nazo in La Habra yesterday and honestly so disappointed. I ordered the shrimp burrito and asked for cheese, which they charged me over $2 for, and they didn’t even add it. Since it was a to-go order, I didn’t notice until I got home. The burrito barely had any shrimp, barely any rice or beans, and was mostly just packed with cabbage. It was basically a cabbage burrito. I also got a chicken burrito and asked for extra cheese on that one too … again, charged for it but no cheese. It’s not even a cheap add-on, so paying for something and not getting it is really frustrating. Not worth the money at all. Definitely not going back.

Google
The service was great. I didn't get her name, but there was a worker who was maintaining the cleanliness of the dining area, and she interacted in a kind and caring manner and that in itself isn't the norm for restaurants these days, so kudos to her! I wish that I could have mentioned her by name, but I forgot my glasses and couldn't see her name tag. Now for the fish tacos. I used to go weekly to another location and get three fish tacos and always loved them in all the four years of my weekly visits. I have come to this location a few times since it's local to where I'm now working, but out of my few visits, I experienced 1 visit where I felt quality food was served. Today, I experienced the ends of the fish dried out and stringy and that made me feel as though I was served fish that may have sat under heatlamp or just sat out for a while or over cooked. In addition, the white fish sauce was definitely lacking since there was barely any on my small tacos. Also, the chips that I had were hard.Today, I had determined that it was going to be my last visit to this location if I wasn't happy with the food quality. Let's see if I can commit to the no return decision, because when it's good it's good!

Google
Always a good choice when you come to taco nazo... no Tuesday specials. But worth the food... 2 or 3 taco combo and you can add a michelada for 6.00 extra.

Google
Amazing service & the food was outstanding! It was so fresh, delicious that the vibe was super cute. Our server Alan at the till was so welcoming, and his hospitality was sensational. Definitely will be coming back daily for the rest of our trip.

Yelp
This is truly a spot that doesn't disappoint! Your greeted as soon as you enter the doors! Food is amazing. I have tried both the shrimp and the fish tacos. Both are on point!

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food and great service. Thank you Taco Nazo, I like the history of where the restaurant started back decades ago as well. I would unlock the restrooms and not have a code to get in, but these days I understand the concern.

Yelp
Clean interior, friendly service, and food served fresh and hot. Despite usually having long lines of folks waiting to order, you usually don't find yourself waiting too long to order. We went in for La Serna wrestlin fundraiser night (they participate in supporting local fundraisers) and found a packed house. Waited about 10 minutes for our food but had no issues finding a table. Indoor seating only, restrooms are coded male and female and are separate. Tasty and refreshing sandia agua fresca pairs nicely with fish tacos!

Yelp
My first time trying out this place. I have heard good things about this place and finally got the chance to try it out since I was near by. Good that they have a parking lot and when you enter their restaurant you are greeted. First of all, the smell that hits you upon entering; you're already drooling or maybe I was that hungry. I smelled amazing. So I got myself two fish tacos and a shrimp. In all honesty, by my life experiences at other places I would receive diet sized fish strip or baby shrimp in a taco. This place they really mean business, you are not going to receive no diet sized strips, they gonna give you the real thing. The flavors, they are actually there. Cutting my story short this place is really worth it. Loved the food so much and they even give you chips and salsa. The salsa made me tear up because it tasted so close to what my grandma's.

Yelp
Nice visit to this OG fish taco joint. They are one of the original fish taco places in SoCal. Legit family run business with family pictures on the walls and a beautiful tribute to the owner on the wall. While the deep fried fish tacos were huge and good, the shrimp tacos were our favorite! Lots of delicious sauce and plenty of large shrimp inside the shell. Beans were great, rice ok. Plate staff and plenty of seating inside.

Yelp
SO DELICIOUS SOLID FISH TACOS & SHRIMP CEVICHE i would like to not drive here next time so i can get drunk off of the seafood cocktails tyvm spacious, a lot of tables, busy but very good

Yelp
Delicious fish tacos and Al pastor. A fish tacos are definitely the best I've ever had is something about the fish and the batter. Small tortillas, stuff to the brim. Order the #1 or 2 and get a free. Drink. Comes with vhios and salsa. Family owned over 47 years
google avatar

Yelp
Literally so disappointed in the food. Over priced and not well seasoned. The shrimp tacos were lacking flavor. The cream on tacos was too over powering for those tacos. Rice and beans were horrible :(
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite fish taco spot in the entire world! I remember trying Taco Nazo for the first time at a tradeshow. And it just knocked me off my socks. From the tortilla, to the crunch of the crispy fish and cabbage. To the flavor bomb of the creama. Hit it with some hot sauce and the peppers. And you've got magic. It wasn't too busy at this location. Food came out fairly quick. Lots of seating indoors. I will always stop in for some fish tacos here
google avatar

Yelp
FOOD: Despite not being a fan of fish, their fish tacos completely changed my mind. Should I say, "It's fish, but it's not fishy?" I highly recommend giving them a try, even if you're not typically a seafood lover. And even if potatoes aren't your thing, their taco dorados are a game changer, even for the most potato haters like me. I also tried their Carne Asada taco and can't go wrong. SERVICE: I usually get takeout from them. The staff at the counter is quick and efficient, even when it's busy. They do a little "hep hep" (I forgot the exact cheer word) when you leave a tip, a cute gesture of gratitude--keeping it easy and light. I'm not sure, though, if they are still doing that. AMBIANCE: Being an old establishment, it could benefit from a little tidying up. PARKING: It is located in a compound of small establishments, so parking can be very tough.

Yelp
This location is subpar compared to other locations. Being a fan of Taco Nazo, i came here for quick grub one day and it was a disappointing experience. The restaurant was not clean. Ordered 2 tacos and they were much smaller and less meat than the tacos from other Taco Nazo locations. It was noticeably smaller which was surprising to me. The flavor was also lacking. Disappointed. Not coming back to this location.

Yelp
Best potato tacos EVER! Can't get enough of this place. We usually dine in but it's been pretty busy recently so we order to pickup now. Make sure to get the green salsa. It tastes the best with the potato tacos. The service is pretty good here. They have someone that delivers the food to the table and they also clean off the tables as soon as people get up and leave. So there are usually spots available to sit. I'd recommend keeping your party small to get seated quicker. The potato tacos tastes homemade and they're crunchy and flavorful with the toppings and salsa on top. They come out fresh and hot so be careful not to burn your mouth like I did!

Yelp
Ok, had it again the next day from Bellflower location and it was every bit as delicious! This chain is completely legit and you need to try it.. our whole household were fiends and fought over the fish tacos, rice and beans.. so damn good!!!!
google avatar

Eric K.

Yelp
All the food is delicious, but the fish tacos are the best. It's in the top five in the OC area.
google avatar

Yelp
Sure, it's been a few years since my last review, but we decided to give the place another try, especially during lent. Well, someone must've read my review as the soda machine was updated and there wasn't trash on the floor or lids and straws near the machine. Yes, it was crowded (I think every other Catholic in La Habra was there, lol), but no one was impatient and the team did their best to get the food out quickly. I liked the cheer they gave whenever they got a tip (in fact, I gave a good tip just to hear them cheer!). There's an order ahead line (which I should've known) for those smart enough to bypass the wait... On this particular evening, parking was super tight, but that's to be expected. Order ahead, bring someone to jump out and pick up the order while you drive around the block. Come back and you're good to go. I'm glad I gave this place a other try and I'm glad they cleaned up their act... Literally.

Yelp
Food: consistently flavorful and delicious. Shrimp tacos are the go to but don't underestimate the shrimp cocktail. It's just as bomb. Service: polite and friendly staff. When dining in, food is brought to the table. Ambiance: fun and lively with two tv's. Can get loud when crowded. Restrooms are well maintained.
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is so DELICIOUS! I'm obsessed and found myself ordering and picking up food here 3X one week! I am a creature of habit for a bit at a new spot so I've been sticking with a grilled shrimp taco with all the dressings on and I add cheese & a carne asada burrito with the signature salsa and signature sauce inside with added onion. CHEFS KISS. It is 2-3 meals in 1 for me. The Guest Service is good! I only have gone in to pay the extra for grilled shrimp as I order online for pickup, but the experience I've had at the registers has been good and the cashier's have been very friendly! It's a good size spot and seems like a very welcoming and comfortable environment to definitely sit and be able to enjoy your food in. I will absolutely be back, multiple times, and will make sure to dine in sometime soon too!

Yelp
One of my go to places if I'm craving Mexican food. Bonus is they have fish options for my husband who is Pescatarian. We ordered a fish taco, an Al pastor torta, Shrimp Burrito, side of chilies, agua de piña, and horchata. Zero complaints about any item. The salsas were delicious, I preferred the red which was Smokey and my husband preferred the green which tasted like it had habaneros. It was pretty busy for a Monday night but service was quick. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Came here randomly after my wife and I dropped off my in-laws dogs for grooming in the same plaza. We ordered our food and sat down..within 5 minutes we had our food delivered. My wife ordered the bean and cheese burrito and I ordered the fish taco. Both were delicious! My taco was the size of my whole hand. Both our meals came with a big chile sprinkled with lemon pepper seasoning and it was so dang good! I'd come here again. Everything was delicious, the store was clean, and the bill was pretty decent!
google avatar

Rod D.

Yelp
I only come here for their amazing fish tacos. It is a very casual place but service is very organized.
google avatar

Eva L.

Yelp
I heard about this place and so we decided to check it out. We really enjoyed the food here and I recommend coming early (before rush hours). We ordered the World Famous Fish Taco, World Famous Shrimp Taco and Taco Dorado Potato. Honestly, everything tasted delicious and I love how they have generous fillings for each taco. The fish and shrimp were well-seasoned and delicious. The potato taco was pretty good. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of these selections! Prices are decent, credit cards are accepted, and there's plenty of parking

Yelp
Stopped by taco nazo on 9.13.24 after a entire day of shopping Michael our server was great the food order came out fast and accurate had the 3 taco combo with the grilled shrimp , pastor and fish it was really good .
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
We love Taco Nazo!! They are well-known for their fish tacos, which is what I normally get, but other family members like the 2 Taco Combo, which is great with the Al Pastor Taco and the Carne Asada Taco. It's very casual and the service is very friendly and efficient.
google avatar

Danny P.

Yelp
As usual taco Nazo in La Harbor, never fails. We had dinner yesterday and watched the Dodger game on the big screen had a combination plate, of Fish tacos, beans and rice also Potato tacos, and a Modelo Michelada and Sandia Agua which were made perfectly. The customer service was great. Amy was so helpful, courteous, and friendly. This is the kind of service that makes customers come back again and again. I want to mention their salsa they have three different kinds, which are so flavorfulalso the big yellow chile is unique in itself delicious. This establishment can get crowded at times but what do you expect with good food, a good atmosphere, and good prices. We'll be coming back soon.
google avatar

Yelp
PARKING: They have tons of parking in this plaza shared with other businesses. Dollar Tree is in this place if you're looking for it. SERVICE: Order at the cashier and then get your number and sit anywhere you'd like & they'll bring the food out to you. It's a casual fast food environment. Wait was very quick for 3 tacos. FOOD: $12 for any 3 tacos. Since it was my first time here I tried the grilled fish taco, potato taco, and Al pastor taco. I swear the grilled fish taco had the same consistency as the potato taco, which was weird, but it was good. Till this day I don't know if they gave me fish or potato! The potato taco was flat and crunchy but soft on the inside. It comes topped with cabbage, tomatoes, and a mayo sauce or tartar sauce. Pretty much the same toppings as a fish taco. Yummy to try, but I personally like protein in mine. Surprisingly, the Al pastor was my least favorite. Very flavorful, but dry. They also brought a bottle of red salsa which was semi spicy. Enough to make me sweat a tiny bit, but I liked it!
google avatar

JT L.

Yelp
Lame, maybe being attentive to your customers is no longer considered important. It's similar to buying food here. Big open space if anyone else is there it's very loud.
google avatar

America M.

Yelp
These tacos suck. The asada meat was dry. My tortilla's were luke warm at best,, the chile huero just had a bunch of salt on it, the rice & beans were ok, and their house salsa tastes like it has ketchup. The ppl are nice and i got my food fast, but that's probably cause they just got my tacos off the heat lamp and on to a plate. Never again. Not worth my $15 2 taco combo.
google avatar

Mario B.

Yelp
Taco Nazo offers the best tacos, and I would recommend it to everybody. The service is good, and the food is of high quality. They definitely don't skimp on anything, providing good value for money. Come on down!
google avatar

Jacob N.

Yelp
This place should definitely have more than 5*! IM VERY VERY IMPRESSED. Food: their tacos, are no joke.. we live very close and passed by it many times. This place was recommended and so we said, let's give it a try... DANG! Talk about perfect crisp, filled to the brim with lettuce, tomato and sauce and just thick too. They are a must!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cute little spot, definitely need to get there at the right time because you it's not that big of a place but I feel like seats open pretty fast. Overall/ 10/10. Will definitely back!

Juan G.

Yelp
Very good authentic shrimp tacos. Their tortas are great. The only reason I gave them a 4 star is because sometimes there is no where to sit
google avatar

Danny V.

Yelp
Great local place to eat some of the best fish, shrimp or potato tacos in town. If you're here on a Friday during lent season be prepared to wait twice as long you normally would due to the very long lines, everyone knows what's up. Plan accordingly and you won't regret it. One last thing, when you give them a tip, they'll say "Tip Tip, Hooray"!
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
I've been to the Taco Nazo in El Monte and stumbled upon one on this side of town and the food is just like the one in El Monte (plus other locations in Walnut, Bellflower and La Puente. Fresh food with a nice spacious dining room serving the Ensenada style fish tacos. Got the papas tacos trio too. Potato tacos may not sound interesting but they taste good so don't knock it until you try it. I see many others order the ceviche here so it peaked my curiosity but I'm a fish tacos guy at heart. Especially the Ensenada style fish tacos. Lastly, beware of food coma after your meal.
google avatar

Clayton M.

Yelp
Their fish tacos are actually super good. I can see why that's the thing they're known for. I'd come back for a nice fish taco. I ordered a 2-taco plate: one fish, one shrimp. Solid & filling. Comes with beans rice chips & a drink. Plenty of food, but the fish taco is the star of the show. Everything else is good but just the same as anywhere else. My big hang-up is the pricing. It's over $4 per taco & a plate is $15 or more. The fish tacos are super good, but the principle of paying that much for a taco is tough for me. Makes it hard to want to come here instead of any other cheaper taco place that's nearly just as good or the same.
google avatar

Bill T.

Yelp
How did we get to $5.00 a taco? B flavor. Portions are a bit less than average. 6 tacos costed $30.00. This is a bit much for what you are getting here. Wont be able to afford this moving forward.... 1 lbs of carne asada is $10.00...
google avatar

Monica G.

Yelp
Let's see...the food here is good! But worlds best fish taco is a stretch. The fish was tender, and the breading was crispy but overall it was under seasoned. The tortillas tasted and felt like they were straight out of the package and not even warmed on the griddle. There was no salsa on the taco, but there was a white sauce that was pretty good. It made the taco less dry. I was expecting a little more oomph, but the fish taco was a 6.5/10. The Taco de papa was good and decorated nicely. The shell was crispy, but not greasy which was great. They were generous with the fresh toppings which i was nice and really helped the taco along. The actual potato filling left something to be desired...it was just under seasoned...6.5/10 The Taco dorado de frijoles? EXCELLENT! The beans were so good and creamy, but still had substance to them. They were seasoned perfectly. The hot beans, in that crispy shell, with the cool fresh toppings? Chefs kiss! I'd definitely come back for these! The lemon pepper chile they serve on the side? Love it! I wouldn't rush back to this place, or make the drive I did. But if I was in the area, I'd stop in.
google avatar

Annie T.

Yelp
The best potato tacos and fish tacos in the area. So crispy and loveeee the toppings they put on the tacos. All the workers are attentive and the ladies do a great job with keeping the place looking clean and making sure that I was already being helped while waiting for my online order.
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Delicious fish tacos; great portions, all beer-battered, loaded with fresh cabbage and their secret sauce. Other recommendations include shrimp tacos and shrimp burritos. Get the extra grilled peppers!

Jin H.

Yelp
It was very tasty. We got the 8 tacos plate. Picked 3 fried fish tacos, 2 grilled fish tacos, 2 asada tacos, and 1 chicken taco. I had 1 grilled fish, 1 asada, and a bite of the fried fish. Hubby ate everything else and said everything was good. For me: the flavor was good for all three. The beef had 1 piece of gristle, that was the only flaw I guess. The grilled pepper was okay, salty but tasty. I usually never eat grilled pepper. First time for everything right? It was $35 for the tacos. Overall, a solid 4.5 stars !
google avatar

Nu N.

Yelp
We drive 30 min to get here and these are so good and worth the drive! Best fish tacos, carne asado tacos and horchata!!
google avatar

Javier V.

Yelp
This place never disappoints yes it's on the pricey side but man is it well worth it. Starting from my favorite the ceviche is bomb I like the shrimp but the mixed is best. Don't even get me started with the fish taco. I mean just wow. Definitely will try the torta next time. Definitely recommend this place. But don't take my word for it.
google avatar

Amando F.

Yelp
Decided to stop by as I've heard very good things. I ordered the 3 taco combo. The fish taco was very good. However my favorite surprisingly was the Al pastor. The staff were very nice and helpful.

Jeccie P.

Yelp
I came to support the La Mirada HS Cross Country, and came home disappointed. I ordered togo at the restaurant and when they had my order ready, one of the staff already read the receipt of what I ordered that was stapled to the togo bag. I should have checked inside. Unfortunately, after driving 30 minutes home did I find out that instead of the 2 small cocktails that I added onto my plate, I received someone else's order of a shrimp ceviche. Really was looking forward to my $60 meal, and it didn't make sense for me to drive all the way back to get my correct order.
google avatar

Screaming M.

Yelp
The fish tacos are still the best in town! I also enjoy the shrimp ceviche. Nice and fresh. The service has always been nice. I recently tried their "off menu" item of the surf and turf burrito that consists of a piece of fried fish with carne asada. It sounded better than it tasted. The crispy fish batter was lost to the other ingredients. The mouth texture was mushy as the flavors blended together. I would take a bite of the shrimp ceviche with its citrus accents to refresh my palate. I would rate the surf and turf burrito a "2-Star" overall. I'm glad I tried it but wouldn't order it again. I still love Taco Nazo!
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
Tacos and plates always comes out hot and delicious. Shrimp cocktail is always nice and cold. Inside is comfortable and very casual. Service is prompt.
google avatar

Kamryn G.

Yelp
The best fish tacos you will ever eat! My family and I have been going here for years and even though prices have gone up, this is still my go-to fish taco spot in the area. Service is fast and friendly. There is also a lot of tables inside so if you wanted to stop by with some friends for lunch and dinner there is plenty of room.
google avatar

Scott C.

Yelp
Some of the best fish tacos in so cal! I have been going to the original location on Valley Blvd in La Puente since the late 80's when they opened. Now they have locations peppered all over the south land to enjoy.
google avatar

Lou E.

Yelp
I've been coming to taco nazo for years. It has, and i'm not kidding, one of the best fried shrimp tacos for under $4 that you can get. They're a baja style fish taco chain (original is in bellflower) but i've had way better fish tacos in my life. But the shrimp tacos? Banging. You should also get the potato tacos. They're like a fried mashed potato. Definitely worth changing it up with. My usual go-to is two shrimp and one potato.
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
Went there today at around 1:40 pm ordered potato tacos came out to $10.01 I gave her a $50 she proceeded to give me $39.99 back I said I'll grab a penny from the car can I have my change she still tried to give me 99 cents in change I mean I have to wait for my food do you think I'm going to run off with a penny This location is a joke I canceled my order she lost a sale because of 1 cent that she couldn't wait for I will never go to this location again only bellflower for me
google avatar

Charlene M.

Yelp
First time here. This place is bomb! Huge tacos and big pieces of fish with perfect amounts of breading. I ordered two fish tacos and the combo. I should've only got one. IT's SO BIG! My piña aguas frescas was so yummy!!!
