Skip the drive-thru—this Taco Time has a fireplace and nice plates - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"There’s something really nice about a fast food spot that convinces you to get out of your car and eat a soft taco on a real plate instead of speeding away like you pulled a heist. And the Renton Taco Time on 4th Ave does dine-in right. Huge windows flood the place with natural light that bounces off those signature desert-tone colors. A fireplace flickers in the corner for ambiance. And you’ll even discover a lineup of old photos to that take you through the chain’s history. This location works for when you don’t need a whole sit-down restaurant production, but also don’t want to make your car a dining room. Come for a weeknight dinner, a quick lunch, or just an excuse to say you once ate inside a Taco Time as your next icebreaker." - Kayla Sager-Riley

Google
The worst location ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tiny burritos with a huge tortilla for $10 what’s going on????? Why is there so many chunks of tendons in the crispy chicken burrito???? I used to love this place but it’s becoming inedible and a huge ripoff. I already sent a review to corporate. I’m supposed to get a gift card. I really think it’s more important that we fill these burritos completely. And have better quality control in general.

Stacey L.

Google
Taco Time is always good when you need a quick fix for dinner! Tots are always on point. We like to get the habanero sauce on the side when ordering the crispy chicken burrito.

Paula T.

Google
The food was fresh, tater tots were not over cooked and our food was hot. This place was very clean.

john E.

Google
This is definitely the worst taco Time location I’ve ever been to. There was hardly anything inside of the tortillas. The price was exorbitantly expensive. And it was all thrown together like a three-year-old was serving it to me.

Jason N.

Google
Barf. Took my father to try TacoTime for the first time. Order fish tacos and enchiladas. Staff members were nowhere to be seen. There was one person cooking and we were completely ignored. Forced to use the tablet to order when we had questions. Couldn't get the attention of the staff member until I walked into the kitchen to tell them the soda machine is broke. Enchiladas and tacos we threw away. Completly disgusting and a waste of 30 bucks. My father nevwr wants to come back and i agree. Worst experience but it is what it is. I told my father we should have went to Tacobell. :)

Anthony B.

Google
Always delicious, and nice inside as well. Very friendly employees. Dine in is peaceful. UPDATE : 08/02/2020 This location has now gone fully electronic! Order at the tablet kiosk, swipe to pay, then wait for your name to be called. No more number markers on tables.

Google
What happened to this place?? My burrito was half the size and barely any meat in it??? Felt like I was eating salad burrito. I just paid $20 to eat rabbit food.

Google
I came in contact with Gloria and her colleagues twice daily for the last 4 years and continue to do so. The food quality, the service and the environment have been consistently superb and they are part of my family. We moved to the neighborhood 4 years ago and we will continue to support while enjoying dining here. Thank you for keeping it consistent.

Yelp
The fact that this place is local, family owned, uses fresh ingredients- it's so underrated !!! Everyone should support this local business and try the CRISP CHICKEN BURRITO WITH RANCH AND HOT SAUCE !

Yelp
Updated: We ordered through the drive thru, but get home only to discover a HUGE black hair intertwined between our food. It was disgusting, and extremely off putting. If you can see the time we ordered, maybe you can track who prepared our food. But food safety and cleanliness is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Please bring back employees using hair nets and/or hats because we were super turned off and nervous to eat after that. Also, we did not think we had to literally point out to include a few napkins after spending over $45. Such a big order would warrant a few napkins as a common courtesy and/or common sense. It would also be nice to be offered condiments as you guys used to. Because we forgot ketchup. Had it been offered, we wouldn't have forgotten.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way out of town. Haven't had Taco time since High School, 25 years ago and it was really great! Ordered the two fish taco & mexi-fry meal which turned out to be more food than I could finish! For $12 I got a large order of tots, a drink & two huge freshly made fried fish soft tacos. It was so much food! I should have split my meal with the hubs but he only eats their natural soft taco. Anyway, it was very good. Service was friendly and the restaurant is newer, clean & comfortable.

Yelp
Out of convenience, I picked up lunch here. A star for their quick and friendly service and for getting the order correct. Their website was pretty intuitive and I was able to customize my order without much trouble. The platter I got was smaller than what I envisioned it be and I didn't like that the tots were soggy because it was next to the veggies. In terms of flavor, it was okay. I wasn't expecting much though. Since I had an online order, you pick it up inside. The place looked clean. They have a counter for online customers - so that's nice.

Yelp
This is the BEST Taco Time anywhere! The store manager Dorita makes a point of keeping everything continuously clean. A very, very well-run restaurant. The hospitality here is a high end experience! I will not be a stranger to this store!!!

Yelp
Quick and easy for fast lunch break. Plenty of seating. I like the hand washing station. Kiosk order and wait. I always forget to add the sauces but everyone is kind and accommodating so I get everything I want easily. The fit bowl is tasty and fresh!

Tim W.

Yelp
Quality has gone downhill. Chicken meat is really chicken 'stuff'. Got nauseous after eating it.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Reliably prepared and flavored food, locally sourced. Like their dedication to composting and recycling. This location usually gives more consistent portions than some other local outlets. One South Bellevue site sometimes serves tacos with a tomato slice the size of a quarter coin, beef filling where the two sides of the tortilla touch, and shreds of cheese you can count! I do miss the days when hot sauce was dispensed in syrup servers. Prices continue to creep up, here and everywhere else. Take advantage of their specials when available.

Yelp
Another great pit-stop through the drive-thru. 'Nother good decent spot for the usual meal-of-side go-to's for my vegan fixes on the road or quick convenient snacks/meals (any beans no cheese, guac, chips, salsa and tots). Nothing tricky with the drive-thru and the window person was fairly standard. One location (I forget which) had a black beans side with 1 hard(?) bean which was odd; I bit that one, observed it strangely and then tossed it.

Yelp
I honestly don't understand any of the one star reviews on here... We have lived five minutes away from this location for ~25 years. We are not frequent customers, maybe once or twice a year, but every time we go, we have an amazing experience! There was a widespread power outage in the Renton Highlands tonight so they were understandably extremely busy! Most people were doing the drive-through because of the massive windstorm so we did the same. The wait was not long at all, and everyone working was efficient, polite, and professional. When we got home the food was delicious and very fresh. We enjoyed soft chicken and bean burritos. Thank you so much to the hard-working crew that helped us out tonight

Mary B.

Yelp
Been going to this location for years. I have had a really good experience However there have been a couple of times I have been given the wrong burrito. I asked for bean and got beef instead. Make sure you say pinto bean to help prevent a mix-up. I recommend this location.

Mike M.

Yelp
I've been going to taco time for 40years and my advice is to skip this location and go to the one on Rainer ave. I'm tired of getting soggy burritos and old crispy burritos here. It's like 3:30 in the afternoon and this consistently happens. Sick of this for the money they want. Never had a problem at the Rainer location

Yelp
Most visits here have been a pleasant experience. The food is always been great. As Taco Time usually is. The last couple of times however, it seems like they might be a little short staffed. The food took a little longer than it usually does, and when I received my takeout order, one of my salsas was opened and spilled over the contents in the bag.
google avatar

Jeffrey T.

Yelp
Well, don't know how the food was. I guess they forgot they need to actually service customers and sell food. After waiting 10 Minutes for someone to get off their b**t and come take my order.... I left. Rude staff and I guess they have to much business to want my $$$. But I was the only one there, so not sure how that is possible.
google avatar

Yelp
Basically an Employee-free experience. You walk in and there's nobody at the cash register. You have to order everything digitally. Every single table was dirty. I walked around the entire restaurant and there is only one other customer seated but EVERY SINGLE TABLE WAS FILTHY. Even the counter seating was dirty. Luckily, they had a handwashing station so I was able to find soap and paper towels to wipe off our table and seats. Still pretty disgusting.

Yelp
They quietly changed their rewards system in the Taco Time Rewards app to a "free entree". It used to be a $5 credit off of your order, which made sense. The big difference with this change to a "free entree" is that a combo meal isn't considered to be an entree. So, if you're like most people and a typical order consists of, oh, say, a combo meal, this is a scenario of where you can't use your reward. But you used to be able to when it was a $5 credit. I mean, they flat out know that the average person gets a combo meal usually. It was an internal decision and a big middle finger to their own rewards system. If there's any counter argument to that by them, well, think of it this way: as a customer, I never ordered anything but combo meals so your free entree system that replaced the old $5 reward made it so your entree reward couldn't be applied to anything I ordered. You must have realized, when making the change, that most people ordered combo meals though. That's why it's bad. Change it back or give the option for taco time rewards to be applied to combo meals. My loyalty as a weekly customer fell off of the face of the earth lately.

Yelp
This place gets an F from me. I went in there today and no one behind the counter. They had a touch screen order kiosk. I really do not like these things because they are not user friendly and you can't ask questions. I pushed some buttons a couple of minutes and walked out. I know now if I see one of those kiosks and no one behind the counter I need to leave.

Yelp
the food is good for fast food. the service is good. i like to go there often, stuff are nice people

Yelp
Ran to the store and decided to treat myself to some good Mexican. Big mistake! Yes, this location is beautiful and the fireplace itself earned the only star. There are literally 8 different groups waiting who ordered inside, and we've all been waiting for our orders more than 25 minutes! That's absolutely unacceptable, especially for a restaurant that should be able to do orders in under 10 minutes. One employee said it's because of "free taco day" but still. Have some extra employees or figure out a better way to be efficient. Those who've been waiting a long time are being given free crustos-that does not help my hungry stomach! I'll keep waiting for my food, but I am unimpressed and unhappy. I will probably not be returning to this location again.

Yelp
I love Taco Time. Just had a great lunch and love that the food is always fresh. I just wish they would bring back the Taco Burger! I really miss it!

Yelp
Let me start out by saying that the food itself was as expected (TacoTime food is always good) but it appears that nobody is actually MANAGING this restaurant. We waited at the front register for quite a while and engaged with nobody (after ringing the bell TWICE.. 30 seconds apart). Eventually, a (very friendly) employee came out and took our orders. We looked for a place to eat but EVERY SINGLE TABLE IN THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT WAS *VERY VERY* DIRTY. After using our own wet-wipes and paper towels to clean a table, we finally sat down and waited for the food. A guy came in (perhaps former employee?).. and A girl came to the register area and they "shot the shit" for 10 minutes while all of these tables sat dirty (and by dirty, I am talking bits of lettuce, ketchup, and god knows what else). Eventually, the guy left and the girl went back into the kitchen (doing nothing about the dining room she was looking at for 10 minutes). Our food was as expected but 20-30 minutes after we arrived, we left a restaurant with 100% dirty tables (now counting the one we cleaned ourselves.. dirtied by us). The food quality is irrelevant when your restaurant is disgusting. Let's not even get into talking about the Rona.. your restaurant is filthy. Apparently you don't care about in-house guests. Only the drive through.

Yelp
I went tacotime for the first time recently. I learned something: don't go to tacotime. I'm not from the PNW, but apparently everyone here already knew this because when I mentioned how bad it was, they wondered why I went to tacotime in the first place. People were like "tacotime...WHY?!" It's called Tacotime, but the tacos have no flavor and the hot sauce is mostly just tomato sauce. You can go, but don't go if you want good tacos.
google avatar

Renee H.

Yelp
Such a disappointment! I ordered a beef taco salad, Mexico's fries, and a drink! I hadn't eaten all day and was looking forward to my salad. I'm eating it, and I'm mid-stride I see a long piece of hair I'm about to put in my mouth! It's not my hair; it's long straight hair, I gag! I'm just upset! I get things happen, but for starters, your workers should have hairnets on! This is just ridiculous!

Yelp
The Taco Time in the Renton Highlands always provides fast, friendly service. The Chicken Taco Salad was amazing with warm, flavorful chicken served on a bed of fresh lettuce, topped with cheese and tomatos. Perfect for a hot day!!
google avatar

Kal L.

Yelp
The beyond meat fit hit bowl was suggested by Daniel. I am glad I followed his suggestion. The bowl tasted freshly cooked and it seems that , as of today it is only available at Renton-highlands location. Hopefully it is available across multiple locations soon.

Yelp
This is my first time here as I was visiting the Seattle area... And was told that this is the place to go to. Quite frankly it was okay at best... But unfortunately I prefer Taco Bell all day. There's nothing wrong with the food here it's just kind of bland and there's more choices at Taco Bell I feel. The value here is pretty good and it's not a bad place to go I just prefer the other place.
google avatar

Minh T.

Yelp
Waited 10 minutes at the counter while two employees chatted. As we left, two employees decided to take the trash (wheeled trash can) out together. We decided to leave since nobody bothered to check if we were waiting at the front register.
google avatar

Holli M.

Yelp
First time here was confused with the menu. Ordered a regular taco salad which is a good size. Veggies were fresh and chips were crunchy. It was very good better than Taco Bell. My daughter had the taco and they were generous with their meat portions. She was very happy
google avatar

Yelp
The exterior of this Taco Time is one of the best. It's clean and modern looking. However, there were a few things that really disappointed me about this location. One con is that the drive-thru is right along a busy road, so it's hard to hear the cashier with so many cars buzzing by at the same time. Another issue was that the soft bean burrito we ordered was small and didn't have much inside of it. I have never seen such a skinny burrito from Taco Time before. We were definitely disappointed. My fiance also said that his taco shell was soggy, like it had been sitting for a while. A good thing was that my taco salad with delicious and had plenty of beef and lettuce, which is something some locations skimp on. The employees in the drive-thru were friendly as well. I will try to go back to this location another time and see if things improve.
google avatar

Naomi D.

Yelp
The poor employees have to deal with what I can only assume is a dick manager. He was so rude to me, I can't imagine how he is at work. His names James I believe. One employee messed up on my order, gave me beef instead of pinto bean. No big deal, she was happy to replace it. I asked for my refund because need is a higher cost than bean, and that's when James had to get involved and he was not happy. Perhaps he's burnt out, or taco time doesn't pay their managers enough, but he was just awful to me.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
My friend had never been here so we stopped in so I could introduce him to the Taco Time soft taco! Yum! Standard Taco Time. Food was hot and my order was correct. Dining room was clean and the bathrooms were serviceable.
google avatar

Shannon H.

Yelp
I love Taco Time. This one in particular doesn't jump out as the best or worst Taco Time. I think the ice tastes a little funny, but the food usually tastes great! Service is quick enough and courteous enough. This might sound reeeeeally trivial, but the plants around the drive through have had icky powdery mildew for ages! They need to replace them! I'm always noticing when I drive by... doesn't have a thing to do with the restaurant or the food, but its the only glaring thing I think of when I go here!
google avatar

Yelp
The Taco Time here in the Renton Highlands has progressively gotten worse since they opened. We always pick up food from this location, but it's not looking very promising unless some changes are made immediately. About a month or so ago, we had ordered some nachos in the drive-thru. When we arrived to the window, we noticed that most of the employees weren't wearing any gloves or hair nets. Pretty nasty in my opinion. The nachos had almost no substance to it...barely any cheese, beans, or meat. Wayyy overpriced for getting almost nothing. Smh... Then today, which is June 26, 2017, my girlfriend ordered some food for us...one beef soft taco, 2 chicken soft tacos, and a large Mexi-fries. The girl at the drive-thru window was in a super hurry and kinda rude, the order had to be corrected, and we didn't even get any hot sauce! Eating Mexi-fries from Taco Time without the hot sauce is ludicrous imo. I'm not sure who they're hiring these days, but there should at least be a level of expectation when you buy food from a well-known establishment. Cleanliness should be an absolute requirement, so I don't believe it's acceptable when they're handling other peoples' food. We love the food at Taco Time and it's usually pretty tasty, but with the subpar standards, we may have to rethink our future healthier fast food choice. I hope this review helps.

Yelp
First time to taco time and to be honest the food is not Mexican and there was no flavor. I had a taco salad wich came with bag that was less than half full of chips and the only flavor I tasted was the ranch it came with. Don't really like how there preparing food so close to the drive up window and with no gloves. The guys were talking and touching there clothes and everywhere else while making food. Horrible! You
google avatar

Jason D.

Yelp
The fish tacos on corn tortillas were, in a word, bland. The sauce with the vegetables was quite tasteless, and the corn tortillas really ruined the flavor. It could be that if you really like corn tortillas and very bland fish tacos, you'd like this, but that is not me. I'll never order this again. The mexi fries were good though!
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
I like this Taco Time place - well specifically just this location. If you get the bean burritos and the hardshell tacos it will remind you of Taco Bell 20 years ago before it became unbearable industrial food. This is for sure American style Mexican fast food, but way more fresh and higher quality. I don't like many of the locations but this place in Renton is really fresh, new and clean. Its a cheap / fast thing to eat when one finds themselves out on an adventure away from Seattle.
google avatar

Yelp
I've had mixed experiences at other Taco Time locations recently. One was so bad that the company sent me a gift card for free food. So in looking around on Yelp, I saw that the Highlands location was remodeled and now has some great ratings, so I decided to give it a try. In a nutshell, I probably would not "eat in" at any other Taco Time in the future. The remodel job is lovely, the fireplace gives it atmosphere, and the entire restaurant, as well as the bathrooms...sparkling clean. Really very nice for a fast-food restaurant. The food was standard Taco Time, but on the good side of things...hot foods were hot, cold salad-y ingredients were cold, fresh and crisp. The staff were efficient and provided good customer service. All in all, my experience there reinforced everything I like about Taco Time!
google avatar

Lyka M.

Yelp
To be completely honest, I don't typically bother writing reviews for fast food restaurants but my experience at this taco time was exciting enough to write about. I live 5 minutes away from this location and when i'm in the mood for a quick burrito (that wont get me sick.. AHEM* CHIPOTLE*), this place is my go to! I ordered a Combo #12 and my habanero soft chicken burrito was pretty hefty, meaning that they don't skimp out on the portions of meat, rice, and veggies they put in your burrito. The mexi-fries or the tater tots were just as good as the burrito, they were hot and crunchy which lead me to believe that they were pretty fresh. However what persuaded me to write this review was the girl that had helped me at the window, super nice and GENEROUS. I asked for ketchup to go with my mexi-fries and expected just a few packets, this girl gave me a handful! THANK YOU. THANK YOU for giving me enough to actually last me throughout my whole meal! THANK YOU for NOT giving me 1 sauce to go with my 20 chicken nuggets! ....... Oops, I forgot I was talking about taco time! Rant Over. I'm sure you guys get the picture though, I appreciate the great service and generosity! I will be back for my next burrito fix!
google avatar

Joanna E.

Yelp
I had a casita burrito which was chicken the only thing I tasted was beans told the manager and an employee brought me some more chicken to put in it the manager said I had to pay for it! BAD BAD customer service!!! Be careful at this taco I ordered the chicken and it tasted like only beans were in the burrito when I questioned the staff they didn't seem to care.

Jasper C.

Yelp
Taco time needs to use better tortillas. Like this is unacceptable. The thing Baja Taco just broke apart.

Yelp
I'm so happy my Taco Time remodeled and reopened. This is not your place if you want authentic local family owned Mexican food and it should be clear to you that that's not their motto. I love that style of Mexican food, but I do love this Americanized Mexcian food also, it's quick and consistent. The drive through won't be quick as McDonald's because they don't have anything pre-made and sitting there the whole day, and I know because every single thing I've ever ordered is HOT. Because of it's slightly better fast food quality, prices here aren't slightly higher. But I don't come here to be cheap, I come here if I'm lazy to cook and don't want to waste time dining in. The crispy tacos are always a classic. The crispy burritos are a win in my book too. Oh yeah, can't forget the Mexi-fries, which are tater tots, you can't blame me for not warning you that everything here is Americanized! Haha. The hot sauce is interesting, it's one of the best hot sauce I've had and I can't find a single restaurant that carries the same taste. Tell me about your experience if you've been here or is going to after reading this review:)

Kristin L.

Yelp
Always friendly and go the extra mile to make sure they got everything right. Very accomadating . I'm speaking of this store only. I've been to stores all over and this store stands out for their customer service.
google avatar

Jonathan S.

Yelp
I drove through to get an order to go, and when I was paying the girl read back my order and said a particular burrito (I forgot the name) twice. I stopped her and said, 'I only ordered one, but did it come up 2 times for you? on the reader board back there it only showed one.' She apologized and got her manager to try to over-ride the mistake and I told her 'hun it's okay. I'll take it either way. I know you've been working really hard, and mistakes can happen.' I gave her my business card and offered to buy her a meal on me, to make up for her worries. She has a really great heart about her job and cares for the customers needs and service. I love eating from here.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this location after it was rebuilt. It looks really nice. That's about it. The first two visits back yielded missing items from my order that I didn't discover until I got home. As I type this on a Friday night I have been stuck in line for twenty minutes so far. There were only three cars in front of me. I have not moved in ten minutes. The lady behind me just shut off her car and walked to the window to see what is going on. What the heck Taco Time?
google avatar

Angie V.

Yelp
Nice and clean place as for fast food. There are spiderwebs on lamps but in general pretty clean place. We ordered Fish Soft Taco and Caesar Soft Taco: both were good and tasty. Nice new guy at the payment desk and he also knows the menu.
google avatar

Lindsay F.

Yelp
I am a former Taco Time employee and have always been a big fan. Unfortunately, after the remodel, the service and food at this Taco Time have gone massively downhill. Tonight marks the fifth time they have forgotten something in my order. Besides forgetting items, my fish taco was cold. Taco Time in the Highlands, you have definitely lost my business this time.
google avatar

Daniel P.

Yelp
Love this place. New building and customized for the Renton highlands with a custom laser cut metal sign inside. Super clean, love the gas fireplace and the comfortable waiting bench for to go orders. Love taco times food in general because they prepare a lot of their food items fresh on site. For example, they have big blocks of cheese they shred, the make their tomato salsa from scratch, not pre packaged, and so on. This all ensures a great, fresh, yummy meal! Now... with people complaining of drive thru times about fast food restaurants, it's completely ridiculous... every drive thru delay is usually Contributed to a customer screwing something up... not the restaurant itself. Generally they have pretty good drive thru times, but you have to realize this kind of food takes longer time to prepare than a couple of burgers and French fries...
google avatar

Yelp
Love Taco Time! Been to this branch a few times and it's always clean and the staff are nice. My favorite are the pinto bean crunchy tacos. Much better than anything Taco Bell puts out, the ingredients actually taste fresh and come from local sources. At Taco Bell, most of the time the lettuce tastes sour, the sour cream kinda questionable... I've never had that issue at Taco Time. It's always good. Almost all of their food wrappers, containers and utensils are compostable. Good good, fresh fresh!

Yelp
I've been to many Taco Times, from WA to OR and is the best location thus far. The wait staff and cashiers are very welcoming and accommodating. The digital menus and wood burning fireplace add the perfect a touch of class of what could just be a fast-food taco stop. The lettuce on the tacos is fresh, crisp, and almost wet from recent washing. I've enjoyed the new endless options Coke machines in all Taco Time locations. I could see myself having a lunch meeting with coworkers here. Ample parking, personable service, calm and classy atmosphere.
