Taco Wagon

I would say it's definitely a pretty good Mexican restaurant. It's not like whoa best Mexican restaurant but it is pretty good and the prices are pretty nice. So if you want something more elevated than Plaza Azteca, then definitely come here. It's less busy, too, so food comes out pretty fast.

They started as a food truck and evolved to a full service restaurant. We frequent Taco Wagon. Great atmosphere! Service is spot on and food and drinks always delicious

We eat here a lot—so often, in fact, that one of the staff members knows we only need one salsa with our chips and doesn't even have to ask anymore! It's those little details that really make this place special. The service is always great, the food is consistently spot-on, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We always leave happy!

Was here from out of town. Had the corn dip which was good and so was the lunch special. Decent prices and portions.

I ordered the shrimp tacos. It came with black beans and rice. This is usually my go-to dish when visiting any Mexican restaurant for the 1st time. Unfortunately, my food was super disappointing. The ingredients were all there, but the flavor was not. The shrimp were undercooked and bland. I used every condiment at my disposal. I also ordered 2 margaritas. They tasted great, but not even a slight buzz. I received great reviews for this restaurant. I'm not sure if they just had a new cook. I will not be returning to find out.

Food was mostly very good. I wish the meat in my biria tacos was chopped finer, it was very chunky and leaned to the drier side of the scale which isn’t why I order biria tacos. The shrimp-corn dip is outstanding. The margaritas are strong and delicious. Unfortunately on our visit the service was hurried and inefficient. Two different workers came to take our initial drink order, we had to ask for waters which were never refilled, we had to ask for plates so that we could share our appetizers. We had a lot of staff doing drive by check-ins but we never felt like we had an actual server that knew what was happening at our table. We were never asked if we wanted dessert, a check was unceremoniously dropped at our table. It was very reasonable for the amount of food and drink we had. I certainly can’t complain about the prices. The dining room definitely has good tables and bad tables as far as the vibe goes. It would be awesome to see some more character added to the space. There is a lot of color but not much comfort. It’s basically just a big room with a ton of tables and chairs. The lights were very very bright at our table but across the aisle were cozy looking covered booths. If the whole space felt like those booths it would be a much more enjoyable experience. All in all I can’t wait to go back next time I’m in town, even just for the shrimp dip. I just hope some things improve.

The place is nice. Good atmosphere. Friendly staff. The food is good. And the menu is varied to offer plenty of options.

Accommodated a large party. Solid Mexican. All diners enjoyed their meals. Chips and salsa plentiful. Rice and beans with meals were good. No complaints. Great location in Appomattox.

Maybe the best Mexican restaurant I've been to. The food was great and the service too! We stumbled upon it while traveling. It was a great experience.

And here on a Sunday afternoon while driving through town! I noticed immediately how crowded this place was which told me immediately that this is local favorite for Mexican food!! The hostess seated us in a booth and I noticed they were very friendly and helpful! The Mexican hospitality was on point!! The tortilla and salsa that most Mexican restaurants serve when seated was better than most places! Looks & tastes like they are made in house! We ordered the food and it arrived piping hot within 8 to minutes! The food was plentiful and delicious! I had to take some home as I could not eat it all in one sitting! From my experience, this place is highly recommend! Hope to be back again someday soon!

By far our favorite restaurant and specifically our favorite Mexican restaurant. Mario knocks it out of the park every time. It feels so homey and the service is great. We love the food, ambience and it is our most visited restaurant by our family. The salsa is always fresh and tasty. The food is always bursting with flavor and the portions are generous. Hands down the best refried beans I've ever had.

Great food and service. While we were in town we went every day. If we end up back in that part of town, we will definitely be going back.

After visiting Appomattox court house, my mother and I got hungry and decided to give this place a try. To our surprise, it was really good and hella affordable, too. The portions are HUGE! Food was so flavorful and meat was so tender. Servers were quick and friendly even when they're busy. The place was clean as well. This place has to be a hidden gem. Highly recommend.

This is a favorite restaurant of ours. Everything is so delicious and the staff is always welcoming. Tonight I had the fresco salad and loved it! Very fresh veggies and as you can see they did not scimp. Will be getting this again!!

Customer service really makes an experience better. We have been here several times, always hoping it will get better. It never does, and you only hope that the service that everyone else is getting is good. The food is dry, and not what people rave about when it comes to Mexican. You would be better off going to the other Mexican restaurant or going to Taco Bell down the street.

It was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. We went to this restaurant for my birthday and it was a complete disaster. The food took 30 minutes, and when it came out, it was lacking the ingredients the menu said would be part of the meal. The food was completely burnt and not edible. When the waitress asked if everything was okay, I mentioned the missing items, and she rolled her eyes, shook her head, and walked away. I was given the wrong drink and then was stuck with having to drink it because they refused to fix it. I asked for a refill, and the waitress rolled her eyes and walked away. She said, "Oh my god," when we asked for boxes. I was also given spoiled sour cream. The bill came to over $70 for inedible food, and the only thing the waitress cared about was her tip. Personally, the food was beyond subpar, and so was the service. It's definitely not worth going back!​

Always delicious. The pollo asado tacos are my favorites to order. And the beans...yummy! Both the black beans and refried pintos are great.

I've never had a single bad thing from Taco Wagon. Everything here is amazing, high-quality food. The owners are fantastic, genuine, kind-hearted and hard-working people. It's an all around local favorite. If you haven't eaten here, do it!!

Awesome. Maybe the best food truck ever. The only downside is be patient and be prepared to wait since everything is made to order. Apparently a lot of people call their orders in. It's worth the wait.

Everything is fresh and fast! Incredible flavor on the tacos and quesadillas! Check out my photos for a sample. The owner and chef is so kind and helpful with suggestions. If you want tacos in the area, this is the spot to visit! He's often parked near the Western Auto. Seating and parking usually available, too. Not far from Appomattox National Historic Site.

The ambiance is nice, the food is excellent every time I eat here. And the service I cannot comment on because I usually just call in, walk-in in and pick my order up and eat at home!! Love taco wagon to go !!!

Always good food and good service! The atmosphere is that of a typical Tex Mex joint, but the food is way better. We have another local Tex Mex place in Appomattox and this place has better prices, better food, and by far better service. Since Taco Wagon opened a restaurant (they used to only be a food truck), we haven't been back to the other place. I've only had slow service here 1 time (out of like 50 visits) and the waitress wasn't slow, just the kitchen. And in their defense, it was a packed evening and it seemed like everyone got there at the same time.

This Mexican restaurant has become my favorite after 2 visits. Brand new "brick & mortar" restaurant that has been remodeled next to the Pizza Hut. I recall it's early days as a carry out trailer in a parking lot off of confederate blvd. My stepson took my wife here to eat and the reviews were good so I figured I'd try it which is a rarity for me, since I rarely eat out. Tried the chicken quesadilla with rice & it was outstanding. Service was great & prices considering what's going on lately with inflation are reasonable. There aren't many restaurants in Appomattox so this one is a pleasant surprise.

Stopped here after a visit to Appomattox Courthouse and the museum. Little place at he end of a strip mall. Great food, fast service, super prices! Will definitely visit again. Highly recommend!

The tacos were cooked to perfection. Great timing on the tortillas and meat. I recommend any of the tacos. It's a short distance from Appomattox Courthouse, so I'd hit up both places in the same trip.

An absolute delight! The restaurant is bigger than you think and can comfortably accommodate a large number of people. The menu is vast and I am sure there is something for anyone who likes authentic Mexican food. The staff is friendly and polite. The food is cooked to perfection and not rushed. I thoroughly enjoyed a special called El Popeye. The portion was huge and I had some leftover to take home and enjoy again. I am excited about eating here again and am sure I will enjoy it as much the second time as I did the first time.

Great food and lots of it at a very good price. We had carnitas, pollo loco and chorizo queso and a drink. Prompt service and only $33. The carnitas were prepared exactly the way I like. Nice open dining space. There's outdoor seating as well. We travel the country and the Taco Wagon is in the top 10% of Mexican restaurants we have visited. Give it a try!

The restaurant was clean and bright. The food was very bland. My steak had no flavor and the shredded lettuce tasted like plastic. Our waitress was missing the majority of the time. It took 20 minutes to get our drink orders and 20 minutes after that to for her to come back and get our food orders then 20 minutes to make the food. Our drinks were never refilled. 40 minutes after getting served our food she comes back and asked if we want a box, she brought those right over. Ten minutes later no receipt no waitress. I had to go to the front to tell another employee what we ordered and pay there. The restaurant was not crowded and appeared to be staffed appropriately.

Fast and delicious. Stopped for lunch while visiting the Civil War museum. Had 3 Barbacoa tacos. Nice amount of food for the price

The tacos ... amazing. Eat here you won't be disappointed . One man show so don't expect McDonald's speed ... but you get what you wait for

Darling Bride and I found this place on Yelp because it was near our route. We're going back even though we have no other reason to go out there because of the tacos al pastor, which are the best I have ever eaten. The Taco Wagon is basically a food truck with a parking lot and a couple of picnic tables- what they lack in ambiance, they more than make up for in sheer deliciousness and the low, low prices. It's all fresh and hot, made to order, and served either American style with sour cream and stuff, or Mexican style with lime and cilantro. Highly recommended!

Carne asada and al pastor tacos were AMAZING! Went back for a carne asada burrito for dessert! One of the best burritos I've had. This guy has a talent for flavoring steak and pork. Friendly and fast. Very well done!

Please keep the food truck open ! Food was much better than the restaurant now establashed in the plaza.

Amazing food truck! Fresh, huge portions at a very reasonable price point. The owner is appreciative of his clientele and takes his time to make the menu items perfect. There's usually a line around lunch time, but it's well worth the wait!

Taco wagon is great Mex american cuisine. They give you large portions and use seasonings for great flavor.

I had the burrito with Barbacoa and it was DELICIOUS! Best burrito I've ever had. My boyfriend got the Mexican tacos with barbacoa and he also loved his food! Great prices and can't wait to try again!

We hired The Taco Wagon for our rehersal dinner at Valley Road Vineyard. They were so easy to work with and the food was absolutely amazing. Anyone looking for reasonably priced and delicious food for any kind of event should hire them!

The Taco Wagon is now in its own building behind Pizza Hut in Appomattox. It's just as good as to Wagon!

This little gem of a Mexican restaurant is fantastic? We enjoyed excellent service, delicious food and reasonable prices when we had lunch there after visiting historical Appomattox Courthouse. The enchiladas were flavorful, the beef in the chimichanga was perfectly seasoned and the queso sauce that came with it was excellent. Great chips and salsa before our entrees arrived as well. Highly recommend!

The Taco Wagon is a food truck that has some great food. The Arroz Con Pollo was created with flavorful meat and a good cheese sauce. My friend had the chicken quesadilla and thought it was very good. Coming from Kansas we were pleasantly surprised by the authentic menu. Quick and very good service. We recommend the Taco Wagon.

The food here is good if your planning to go to taco bell or a Mexican restaurant your crazy. I've ate here multiple time last few years when I'm working in appomattox. I've had the salad, taco's, an did the Burrito yesterday. I'm sure all the meats are good but I've always got the Mexican BBQ.

I rate the tacos and service 5+. The overall 4 star rating is because I am bothered by the use of styrofoam containers, which are terrible for the environment. There are numerous environmentally friendly options. I'll gladly pay a little more to have a alternative to styrofoam used.

Decided to try this last week while in Appomattox since it's fairly new. My wife and I both ordered the three taco deal. 3 tacos for $6.25. I got three different ones (carne asada, pollo asado, and barbacoa) with flour tortillas and my wife got three different with corn tortillas and got the Al Pastor. We were told the wait would be 10-15 minutes and it was right about 10. Food was served hot and was very good. Tacos were not soggy at all (like I've had elsewhere) and it would be hard to pick a favorite (I tried the Al Pastor too). This was less expensive and much better than the local Mexican restaurant and of course better than Taco Bell that just opened a few months ago. If you're looking for quick though, go somewhere else. It's not fast food but I had time to wait and was glad I did!

Doesn't matter if you want a simple burrito or Tropical Talipia, The Taco Wagon doesn't disappoint! Wonderful food and fantastic people! Authentic Mexican food, great portion sizes, fantastic flavor. I highly recommend visiting Mario and Mallory for an A+ meal. Best Mexican food in Appomattox!

Great food and friendly service! I had the fish tacos and hubby had Barbacoa burrito. Both were excellent! Highly recommend if you are in the area. We were visiting the area so, unfortunately, will not be able to come again.

Yes please!!! 3 tacos, Mexican style. Perfection. This place Has it going on. Nice tables to sit at. Nice location. Private parking lot. Definitely in the top 2 of taco vendors we have been to. Delish! EAT here!!!
