I've been reading about this place so I thought this trip I would hit them up. Taco Zone is in a non-descript strip mall, and parking is at a premium. There are a couple booths and tables, so seating can be limited. The menu is pretty limited to tacos, a burrito, nachos, and quesadillas, but there are a number of protein choices.
Reviewers have said Taco Zone was pretty authentic, so I thought I would give it a try. As you walk in, there is a huge sign that says "Welcome my friend," and the person behind the counter will repeat that saying. Could this be better than Cheers? Since the place is pretty cozy, sharing a table would be looked upon favorably.
The food? It's good. I grew up in California, spent the last 15 years in Texas, and visited Mexico several times, so I think I have a pretty good idea on the flavors. The salsas definately need some more heat. I had the steak tacos, and they need more flavor and heat. Don't get me wrong, it's not Taco Bell horrible. But they need to stop doing what all the other Mexican places in Fort Wayne are doing - catering to the local taste. People here have traveled around, give them something to remind them of that small town taqueria stall, while it's snowing here (I live in Lafayette, and there are several places that will beat anything I've had in Texas).
For a friendly atmosphere and decent food, Taco Zone gets four stars. I hope this isn't as good as it gets here for Mexican Food, though.
