Jason Stewart’s Grub Street Diet

"A longtime Echo Park taco truck that the writer adores despite occasional criticism from taco purists for its location and largely Caucasian clientele; he describes routinely over-ordering and ‘‘blacking out’’ at the menu. Standouts include mulitas and a veggie quesadilla (they put rice inside their quesadillas, which the reviewer says melts into a pleasant, mushy texture), and the truck is infamous for its suadero — a harder-to-find cut prized by regulars. The meal is best enjoyed casually at home with fiery habanero salsa and a nostalgic, messy vibe." - Chris Crowley

Best tacos we've had in a really long time! We live NE, but will definitely be making this trip again soon. Nothing near us compares to this, in our opinion. The house fried chips, salsa, and ground beef queso was awesome. All the tacos we tried had delicious and flavorful meats without being spicy. Everyone was so nice and friendly too. 5 STARS!! Cannot wait to visit again.

Google
Very quaint spot tucked away with amazing service and great food. Staff was helpful and kind and our food came out lightning fast! Very reasonable prices, for two people it was $18 plus tip. We ordered steak Mexican style tacos, and a chicken fully loaded burrito. The tacos were delicious and super authentic. Fresh lime, cilantro and steak in a warm corn tortilla. Chips and salsa were good as well. The fully loaded burrito was also good but I would definitely get the tacos over the burrito. Overall thoroughly enjoyed this spot!

This place is AWESOME! The food is amazing. Make sure you check the special board in the window as you enter the building! YUM!

Google
The delicious smells seemingly carried me all the way through the door. Authentically decorated for those with time to sit &eat. And for those in a hurry a “home-cooked” Taco dinner (3) tacos with rice and beans for less than $10 before taxes.to enhance the flavor of food pair it with glass bottled soda. The staff are nice, quick and keep a well kept place

Google
Delicious tacos, we tried carne asada, chicken, chorizo, veggie, & ground beef. All good our favorite was carne asada. Fast service. Small mom and pop taco shop. Great customer service. Definitely recommend this spot.

Google
In my family's opinion, Taco zone has the best Mexican style tacos in town. hands down. We would highly recommend their food which they have a good variety of. Several different kinds of meat to choose from. Delicious and habit forming in the best possible way.

Google
Best Taco's I've had in Fort Wayne. Called in my order and in less than 10 minutes it was ready. Great prices too. I personally love the Dive atmosphere here. Its how you know the food is gonna be amazing.

Google
I have never had such unprofessional. Take out rude manager on the phone when you call to tell her that you're missing things. Your food is uncooked the way that it's cooked every day that you've ordered it. Snotty, snappy language. I don't know how they have a manager that is speaking to a customer. That is calling with problems in my entire life

Yelp
Amazing tacos and incredible service. We stopped in on a trolley bus and the staff was totally accommodating and outgoing even though they were very busy with their regular customers. There was 20+ in our group and they didn't even bat an eye when we arrived and was very quick professional with our group. Amazing professional staff and the food was hot and fantastic. Would recommend this place a thousand times. Keep up the great work and I will definitely see you guys again.

Yelp
Awesome lil taco joint on SW side of town... Don't let the hole in the wall look fool you, this place puts out really good food (namely tacos, duh)... It's a small place with a tiny kitchen, but the staff is super friendly and they put the food put fast (within 5 mins of ordering/sitting down). We got the steak, chicken, carnitas, and chorizo tacos (Mexican style, with onion, cilantro, traditional salsa, and salsa verde) - Outstanding. We also had a size of queso with ground beef, which was also very good. Also, $25 for lunch (2 people)... Two thumbs up. Definitely recommend you check out Taco Zone if you want some excellent street tacos and are pressed for time.

Yelp
My youngest son had been talking this place up for a while as he had been their with friends a few times. We finally went and was very happy with the food. I had the mexican style tacos (1 steak, 1 beef, 1 chicken) Have to say the beef was my favorite. The verde sauce was spot on falavor wise and the other two sauces were great as well, Be careful of the hot chipolte one, it sneaks up on you. Son had a dish that was rice with shopped chicken covered in queso. It was yummy as well.

Yelp
Taco Zone has become my favorite lunch stop on my frequent trips between Indy and Lima Ohio. Authentic Mexican tacos and American-style tacos too, both are excellent and I usually get one of each. Everything on the menu can be prepared vegetarian too, which I really appreciate. Carnivores will appreciate the Price Rib Fully Loaded Burrito, a bargain at only $7.99 and it comes with a drink. Exceptionally friendly service and the employees are happy to explain the menu items and options. This was another great Yelp find, I never would have discovered this without the great reviews from fellow Yelpers.

Yelp
Another yelp! referral! I've been reading about this place so I thought this trip I would hit them up. Taco Zone is in a non-descript strip mall, and parking is at a premium. There are a couple booths and tables, so seating can be limited. The menu is pretty limited to tacos, a burrito, nachos, and quesadillas, but there are a number of protein choices. Reviewers have said Taco Zone was pretty authentic, so I thought I would give it a try. As you walk in, there is a huge sign that says "Welcome my friend," and the person behind the counter will repeat that saying. Could this be better than Cheers? Since the place is pretty cozy, sharing a table would be looked upon favorably. The food? It's good. I grew up in California, spent the last 15 years in Texas, and visited Mexico several times, so I think I have a pretty good idea on the flavors. The salsas definately need some more heat. I had the steak tacos, and they need more flavor and heat. Don't get me wrong, it's not Taco Bell horrible. But they need to stop doing what all the other Mexican places in Fort Wayne are doing - catering to the local taste. People here have traveled around, give them something to remind them of that small town taqueria stall, while it's snowing here (I live in Lafayette, and there are several places that will beat anything I've had in Texas). For a friendly atmosphere and decent food, Taco Zone gets four stars. I hope this isn't as good as it gets here for Mexican Food, though.

Yelp
The burrito is authentic and absolutely hits the spot. They offer American or authentic style tacos which appeals to nearly every customer. Some despise pico de gallo and cilantro, but I dig it. Food is quickly prepared and well executed!

Yelp
The service is so fast and the staff are all very friendly I usually only get tacos and they are delicious! I carry out here because it's so close to my house.

Yelp
The Americans style hard tacos were all right. They make them like taco bell in my opinion. The rice and beans were terrible. The beans tasted like old oil. BUT their queso was incredible. Too expensive for what you get in my opinion.

Kristin M.

Yelp
This is my go-to, don't have to even think twice place for lunch. You won't find nicer people making authentic tacos, burritos and bowls. They even embrace my custom orders and always greet with a smile. Don't be surprised if you see a full house or a line out the door...yes, it's that good.

Yelp
We tried this only cause it was close to us and ended up being one of our favorite taco places in town.

Yelp
Clean place and friendly staff. More importantly, great food! Hard to find a great place for tacos but this is a winner

Yelp
This is a go-to for sure!! I have a vegan diet and they were so accommodating to my needs. The burrito bowl was delicious!!! My family loves all their tacos. Kind people. Woo!

Serena M.

Yelp
This is a good little Mexican food diner. Cheap eats as the tacos are only $1.80 and burritos and the rest are $6.49. The burritos are huge. The dye colored chips taste strange and the salsa isn't more that very bland tomato sauce with a slight bit of something in there. So I wouldn't order them extra.Their meat is very flavorful. Don't look at the floors if dirty floors get to ya. It's not the cleanest place. The service is very friendly.

Yelp
Wow! My flight was delayed so we stopped by here for a snack and WOW. I had a steak taco and it was one of the best tacos I've ever had. I'm from California and I take pride in our Mexican food. Favorite restaurant in Fort Wayne. Hidden gem!!!

Yelp
My family and I stopped here one night after searching for a place close by. The pics looked like the food from one of my fav places to eat in Iowa so I had to go. I was not dissapointed in the food. Excellent tacos and nachos were enjoyed by our family. While we ate, I noticed that virtually everyone that came in was ordering carry-out. I can understand as the dine-in experience left something to be desired. It seemed a little unclean and cluttered and there was an employee cleaning out their fish tank while we ate, which gave off a very unpleasant smell. The staff was very friendly, however. I would probably give this restaurant four, bordering on five stars, had I gotten carry-out and not had the dine-in experience.

Yelp
Fully loaded burrito with steak was awesome and filling, it was grilled and accompanied with pico and their green salsa made for awesome lunch at work. And they were very quick about making it. Definitely a must try place.

Yelp
Found this place while I was in Ft Wayne for work and it has become a go-to every time I'm back in town. Tacos are among the best I've ever had.

Yelp
Ok , we haven't been here for awhile.31/2 stars. No more table service..You now order at the counter and pay, then they give u a tab and call your number to come and get your order.Okay cuts down on staff.2 people, the cook and a nice young lady taking order and. payment. The food was good. Salsa good, salsa verde was real good. The tacos were good but small. However a $1.50 so okay. Husband said his sandwich was okay but small pn content. Steak, onion, green peppers, avocado, lettuce, tomato, jalapeno. But skimpy , oh and around a dozen fries or u can choose chips. The drinks are around 12-15 oz.. I don't believe u get refills fir free. However horchata was good and I had fountain coke. They also have bottles of soft drinks..So we would come back, but think we would drive farther next time to Canterbury Green place..Guacamoles..but here, yeah it was good.We will be back..Husband is still hangry!!! Lol. $28 n change for food. $5.00 tip at counter. YEAH tip the counter people..if they are kind.lol
