Austin Taco Chain Tacodeli Opens New Restaurant on South Lamar | Eater Austin

"I'm seeing Tacodeli open another Austin location this summer at 1817 South Lamar Boulevard in the Zilker neighborhood, taking over the suddenly-closed Masa y Más and slated to open Wednesday, July 17; it's Tacodeli’s ninth Austin location and will offer its usual menu of standard and new-school tacos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including the Jess Special with migas, jack cheese, and avocado; the Frontera Fundido Sirloin with grilled steak, a jack cheese glaze, and sautéed poblano pepper-onion rajas; pollo en mole; the morning mashed-potatoes-in-tacos option; and that queso. The casual counter-service spot will also serve cocktails — including a Doña Rita margarita that uses Tacodeli’s iconic salsa doña — frozen and on-the-rocks margaritas, aguas frescas, and beers. The South Lamar location includes an indoor dine-in room and a patio; for its opening it will offer $5 margaritas and giveaways, and its hours will be 7 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday–Friday and 8 a.m.–9 p.m. Saturday–Sunday. Tacodeli was founded by Roberto Espinosa in 1999 and has since grown with locations across Texas." - Nadia Chaudhury

Good tacos but a bit overpriced for what you get. I have no problem paying $5 or more per taco but I want the tacos to be worth the price. Great staff though, every one was kind, the person taking the orders didn't know ow the menu very well, which took a bit more time to order. I just felt bad for the people behind me in the line.

I can't believe I have not written a review here yet. LOVE Tacodeli. We eat here often and bring it it for work all the time- Taco Thursdays lol Everyone loves Taco Thursday. The food here is consistent (in a good way) and the salsas are incredible. They have a range of different heats on the salsa all are fantastic. The Freakin' Vegan and the Pollo Fantastico are my favorites for lunch. For breakfast the Jess Special and Vaquero are my breakfast favorites though I don't go often for breakfast admittedly but when I do, that is what I get and love it. The flour tacos are not too thick and not too thin where they tear. I like that they don't try to put too many things into the tacos or make it too wild- they put just enough different things and it perfectly paired combos- you don't have to have 25 ingredients to have a good taco. IMO. This location has a great patio that is covered as well as tables inside. Everyone is always very friendly and happy (the staff). Excellent to go- never had it not be ready at the time frame. Only "pro tip" if getting to go is make sure the salsa is in the bag, sometimes they forget to put it in.

I love tacodeli, but unfortunately this one isn’t it. Online ordering service wait time has been almost double on several occasions. I love their food, but takeout service should not be this slow and wait times should accurately reflect wait times. I’ll support another local taco place down the road in the future.

I’m a loyal Tacodeli regular. I eat here almost daily because the vegetarian options and consistency usually make it the best casual breakfast in Austin. That said, the refried beans at this location are a problem. Compared to Spyglass or 42nd Street, the beans here are: • noticeably bland • under-seasoned • lacking the usual creamy texture • often the weakest component of the taco It’s a clear outlier in a chain that normally nails its fundamentals. Everything else is solid — service moves fast, the patio is great, and the overall quality is there. But if refried beans are the backbone of half the vegetarian tacos, they need to match what the other locations are serving. I love Tacodeli. I just want this kitchen to meet the standard that keeps me coming back.

Absolutely horrible experience. I ordered 2 bacon, egg, and potato tacos what I got was egg and mashed potatoes?? No bacon anywhere. Then I ordered 1 potato, bacon, egg, and cheese taco, and instead got bean, bacon, egg, and avocado. I don’t even know how that mistake happens. I don’t think they read a single thing on the ticket. On top of that I sat there for 20 minutes while people behind me were getting their food out before me.

This was my first Tacodeli experience, and it did not disappoint! The staff were friendly and patient while I looked over the menu. The food came out hot and fresh. I deeply regret only getting once taco because I definitely could have eaten 3 or 4. I will definitely visit again!

Very grateful to have a Taco Deli on South Lamar. There are many great taco spots in Austin but Taco Deli is what I eat most frequently. I typically get their barbacoa and Otto (cheese, avocado, bacon) on flour. Separately, I usually order 4-6 Otto’s plus two large black refried beans to go. Fantastic spot!

The food here is good, but not worth the price. I ordered a ceviche appetizer and it came in a tiny to-go container usually used for condiments at other places, and it wasn't even filled to the top. Tasted good, but I would have much rather spent the $6 on tacos instead.
