"An entirely new restaurant from the owners of local taco chain Tacodeli is opening near Lake Austin Boulevard. It’s taking over the former Fabi + Rosi space at 509 Hearn Street sometime this summer or fall. Little is final about this new restaurant, which is still being figured out. Tacodeli co-founder Eric Wilkerson calls it a 'cousin restaurant.'" - Erin Russell

"The people of Westlake, like all Austinites, sure love their tacos. The Westlake location draws crowds during lunchtime and on weekends for the breakfast options, beefy Cowboy taco, and infamous Doña salsa." - Erin Russell

An original Austin breakfast Taco One of the first home grown taco spots in Austin. They make great tasting tacos with a nice variety of options. They use good quality sirloin and the eggs are nice and fluffy. What sets taco deli apart from others are their sauces. You can go from mild to really hot. The habanero sauce is very spicy to the point that it can kill your taste buds all the way down to tomatillo which is about as mild as you can get. The sauces are made in house and are of high quality. My favorite is the Dona, as it's spicy but not so much that you can't taste the tacos. This location has a generous outdoor bench seating area under a large oak tree. Nice for a family outing. If you're looking for an Austin experience, this is it. I'd also recommend the original location off spyglass drive.

We love doing the family meal plan because it's a great bang for our buck. We've done takeout here here a bunch of times and love it. We've tried all the chicken and vegetarian tacos and love them. The tacos here are like clean eats. The seasonal chicken tinga tacos were delicious! Those were during the month of Nov.

Google
Long time taco deli customer but disappointed in my last visit. Restaurant and staff were great, but the food was underwhelming. The migas taco included a cold tortilla and Luke warm eggs with 1 spec of peppers and 2 tiny pieces of tomatoes. The eggs were unseasoned, and so Luke warm, the cheese didn't melt at all. The Barbacoa was very good on taco 2, but not enough to save the cold tortilla and unseasoned Luke warm eggs underneath.

I got the Mexico City chicken taco today and my chicken was RAW!!!! I took a couple bites and it was extremely rubbery so I bit one piece in half to find out that the chicken wasn’t even cooked. I will never be eating here again, if you order anything here check your food before you eat it.

We picked up a large catering order. Everything was perfect with the order! The chicken and beef was cooked perfectly. The salsa was good. Great meal, definitely recommend them for parties.

Google
Excellent tacos, lots of interesting varieties and delicious chips and dips. Nice friendly service and a place I returned to after years from past memories. Ability to get good dairy free, gluten free options is a huge plus.

Google
I have always been a skeptic of this place.... and I have no clue why. I finally decided to give it a try and it's great! Their sauces are amazing. I'm a pretty basic taco fan, so street tacos are my thing. The ingredients are fresh and the tortillas are tasty. It isn't fine dining, but it's definitely worth picking up lunch or coming in for a quick bite before a night of drinking. I've only been to the location by my friends house, but I'm sure they do it right at the other locations.

Google
This is such a fun place! The first time we went they had some really amazing special tacos but ever since then we haven't seen them again. My suggestion-- if there's a special Taco-- order it! Everything tastes really fresh. The workers are very helpful while ordering! The frozen margaritas are surprisingly amazing! I would have never thought! Now every time I go to HEB my mouth waters when I think of the frosty goodness! My daughter isn't a fan, but there's Chick-fil-A and Mod pizza right there, so the whole family can grab what they love and eat outside.

Yelp
Great community restaurant, something for everyone on the menu from the healthiest to the most decadent.

Yelp
Taco deli in West Lake Hills gives you the full West Lake Hills experience. Plenty of parking, the space is vast and the outdoor seating is plentiful. Also, dogs are allowed, which is a plus. In terms of tacos - you get the full West Lake Hills experience. The food is OK and not worthy of the price tag. You're better off driving a bit further where you can find a food truck that serves tacos by people who speak English as a second language. This is just another Torchy's, corporate tacos. Also, how in the world do y'all put flames on a sauce to indicate heat when all your sauces have no heat? Just take the flames away, the sauces might as well be pace salsa. The service was great and everyone working during our visit was pleasant. The people who work at this location are doing their job effectively and efficiently. Overall, my wife and I won't be back. If I'm going to spend this kind of money on tacos, I want real tacos and real hot sauce. However, if you live in West Lake Hills - you'll love it.

Yelp
Almost 10 years since my first review. I guess I'm guacamole rich now because I gladly pay roughly $5 per taco at Tacodeli. The Otto remains my favorite. So much so, my second breakfast taco is a riff off the Otto (eggs, refried black beans, bacon, chorizo). Dona salsa remains perfect and I've been appreciating the habanero salsa lately. The online ordering app is terrific. One of the things I didn't enjoy about Tacodeli was the wait. The app has made that disappear. 99% of the time I'm eating breakfast here, but they have a great dinner package for the family.

Yelp
Pretty good tacos! They have a good variety of vegan and vegetarian and really good hot sauce/salsa to go on top! I got the Heather and it was good! Staff was friendly and quick and since this was an airport location the space was clean and fine.

Yelp
We stopped here for a snack and we hoped to find some coffee... Well, the food was amazing and fast, and the coffee was workable :-) Visiting family in Austin, we needed a spot to grab a quick bite to eat. Dropped in here, and walked right up to the counter. The food order was quick, and they had brewed coffee and some cream and sugars... basics... Seating was like sitting in an old cantina, and the noise level was just right for some relaxing conversation. The food was called out quickly, and we grabbed some different salsas to try. It was all pretty good :-) I would not put this place on the level of some other Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants, but for the price, speed, convenience, and taste, it was at least 4 stars of yummy goodness! The coffee... well... maybe not the focus for a fast food Mexican cantina. lol!

Yelp
Stopped by Tacodeli for lunch while out shopping with family. I ordered the Cowboy and the Frontera Fundido Chicken tacos. The Cowboy is one of my favorite tacos here - beef tenderloin with grilled corn, onions, peppers and a dollop of guacamole. Pretty flavorful on its own and doesn't need salsa, although the Verde and Dona salsas are great options if you want an additional kick to your taco. Frontera Fundido Chicken was solid, but nothing special. This taco was a bit on the greasy side, which could be partially from the jack cheese glaze on top. My family ordered the Papadulce and Space Cowboy tacos and enjoyed both vegetarian options. My husband enjoyed his Delibelly taco (pork belly with sweet-spicy salsa on top), but did not like the shrimp taco he ordered (too fishy). This location gets pretty crowded during lunch, whether you come on a weekend or weekday. Decent vegetarian options compared to other taco places. Little on the pricey side, but in line with other fusion or Tex-mex style taco places like Torchy's. For what it is - a casual, non-traditional taco place - Tacodeli does just fine. If you're looking for something more traditional or taco truck style food, this is not the place. Worth a stop if you're in the area and looking for a quick lunch!

Lauren H.

Yelp
You have to understand that Tacodeli is a fast TexMex taco place. By no means am I saying these are among the best tacos in town. But as long as you know and are okay with that, then I'd recommend. The Roja salsa is really good. Like sometimes I'll buy it from here or the grocery store (I've seen at H‑E‑B and Whole Foods).

Yelp
Stopped in breakfast time last week. Glad I did! I've always been a torchy's taco fan but one of my daughter's likes tacodeli. I can see why based on my recent experience. Two breakfast tacos on corn tortillas were delicious. One was Barbacoa, spinach, and black beans, and the other one was sausage and egg. Nicely done! Good cup of dark roasted coffee also, Peruvian origin.

Marissa G.

Yelp
I picked up some Taco Deli for dinner. I ordered the Frontera Fundido Sirloin Tacos. It comes with grilled sirloin, sauteed onions, and sauteed green peppers. It comes with a jack cheese glaze that I chose not to get. The sirloin meat with sauteed onions and sauteed peppers was good but the taco was really greasy. Luckily the tortilla held and didn't fall apart. I didn't mind the veggie white rice but it didn't have any flavor. The Black beans had flavor and when I mixed it up together and added some salsa verde it was really good. I parked in the parking lot and then went in to pick it up. It's an open and spacious restaurant. There's also seating outside. The service was good. Not many people there at the time of pick up but that varies depending on day and time. Overall it was a good eating experience.

Yelp
The food is not that great. We have had better tacos from street vendors or even Torchy's, but the service and attitudes of the staff are what really sucked most. The whole time we were ordering the guy at the register was to busy having a side conversation with another employee, not paying attention to our order. When we got served they brought an item no one ordered and asked 3 times about the mistake, as if the order would some how change the more they asked. No, I didn't order shrimp, I orders sirloin. But the guy wouldn't know what I ordered, because he was to busy chatting up the other worker. Along with the attitude I got a mean mug glare from the green beanie wearing chick, because I wouldn't accept my wrong order. Then, for the rest of the meal we were glared at I assumed talked about...they would stop talking if we looked at them Skip the bs eat somewhere else.

Reena R.

Yelp
I am a huge taco fan! We love Torchy's Tacos but heard about Tacodeli so decided to try it. I have to say it was pretty good and comparable. The line was really long so we had to wait a while, but we placed a large order and got everything without any issues. The menu is pretty extensive. I tried all of the chicken tacos and they were pretty tasty. The migas were good, too. The tacos are a pretty good size, not tiny like some street tacos. One person could eat 2-3 depending on your appetite. I would go back agsin and try different tacos next time.

Samantha M.

Yelp
Yesterday around 7:45pm we visited Tacodeli for the first time. The food was good. However, I noticed they were closing/cleaning the store. So I thought they closed at 8pm. I think it sends the wrong message to start closing procedures too early.

Annalise N.

Yelp
VERY disappointed with my experience here this morning. I placed an online order for 17 tacos for my office this morning only to pick it up & notice that this location didn't label any of the tacos with stickers. Not only that, but they did some complicated mapping with numbers 1-6 on the receipt to a bag correlating to a number 1-6. This could work if I got say 3 Ottos, 4 Freakin Vegans, 5 Jess Specials & 5 Sirloin tacos, but my order was more varied than that. Why would bags be put together with an assortment like 1 Freaking Vegan, 1 Otto, and 1 Jess special? On top of that it wasn't quite clear what bag had what tacos because of how they vaguely numbered the receipt. This lead to ppl handling other coworker's tacos. Gross.... For a $75 order + tip I would expect better service than this. I won't be placing a large order from here again.

Tyler M.

Yelp
I love taco deli and this location is awesome, great indoor and outdoor spots. They have my favorite queso in Austin, I could drink it. Puerco Verde on corn with avocados all day and everyday. Breakfast tacos are solid as well.

Tracy B.

Yelp
I'm a taco deli girl instead of torches and now they serve Bodacious Birria!!! One of the tastiest things I've ever eaten. Seriously. I know Birria is everything right now (though has been around for a long time but now very on trend) and for good reason. Taco deli knocks it lit if the park. Tender braised short ribs and succulent, spicy broth for dipping. I hope they keep this summer special forever!

Jennifer b.

Yelp
This place is so slow. Waited 25 minutes for a bean burrito and tortillas. There's like 5 cooks doing absolutely nothing in the kitchen

Tam T.

Yelp
I love the Cowboy taco here on corn. The queso is yum and then their pecan bar that is there is dangerously delicious. The service is counter fast food but it doesn't feel or taste like a commercial chain. The patio faces an entrance to the green belt so it's fun to people watch. Highly recommend for something yummy and quick.

Courtney B.

Yelp
After having issues with meat/seafood added to my vegan tacos at another location - I tried this one. My papadulce taco, a vegan taco, arrived with one piece of brisket on top. I ordered the vegan taco with no modifications. I sent it back and when the replacement arrived everyone at my table was done eating. The woman who helped us said that she's had the same issue with Tacodeli and the manager told her the staff does it on purpose. I'm disgusted that the manager allows this but at least I know why it keeps happening and I'll steer clear of all Tacodelis.

Bill T.

Yelp
Breakfast tacos are consistently good. Are they the best? Maybe not but they are consistent unlike most places. Also they open for breakfast earlier unlike my Torchy's which opens at 9am for breakfast.

Kate Y.

Yelp
Hate to be "that" person but I've always loved Taco Deli and have had great service and satisfaction before - ordered pickup tonight and my entire order was wrong. Not one thing was correct. There was no one near to help - not sure where all workers were at the time. Spent $30 and didn't end up eating anything in our order. Taco Deli - please do better.

Andrea B.

Yelp
I've been eating at TD since 2002, back when it was normal to see Roberto regularly at Spyglass. When a location opened in Westlake years ago my family was so excited- somewhere close with more seating and parking? Yes, please! But honestly, it's been a let down on so many visits in the past year that the family has basically decided TD isn't what it used to be and is no longer interested. Speaking with folks who have also been living and eating TD for as long as we have, it's a fairly common opinion. More specifics? The price for the portions have gotten crazy. Kids chicken and cheese taco? Sure, that's $6, and you might get 4-5 small pieces of chicken in that, so order two. Staff used to have personality, and they were welcoming. We've been on a first-name basis with the managers at multiple locations for years, because they used to actually care and pay attention to customers and create some connection. Maybe this location is more "Westlake" than "TacoDeli" and it needs a new name, or maybe it's a sign of the times. The sad classic Austin story playing out in what was once a beloved classic establishment- "it just ain't what it used to be."

Diane V.

Yelp
This place sucks. This was literally $17 and the meat was dry. The Barbacoa meat has 0 flavor. I really don't understand why this place has 4 stars.... Do yourself a favor and find a taco truck on the side of the road. Guaranteed to be much better

Jane M.

Yelp
Another favorite taco place in Austin. Loved how they have so much variety for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Huge space outdoors and a few tables indoors. We stopped by around brunchish and ordered the Shrimposito, The Heather, Space Cowboy, All the tacos were delicious but the hot sauces just elevate the flavors to the next level. I had all my tacos with the habanero sauce and that was very spicy and my friends enjoyed the dona as well. They have pretty good coffee. All in all loved Tacodeli and can see myself stop by to satisfy my taco cravings.

Aleena S.

Yelp
Went only after MOD Pizza was closed next door. I ordered a chicken quesadilla from the kids menu because they didn't have an adult quesadilla option (that's okay, not a big deal). When I finally got my food there was no chicken and there was hair in and on the food. I just threw it out. It was only $4 but also $4 for a tortilla folded in half with some cheese and garnished with hair is a waste of $4. Will not be returning.

C C.

Yelp
Went Sunday morning on 6/4/23. Food was fine; however, a young girl working there very dramatically rolled her eyes and was nonverbal when my boyfriend asked her to package our to-go orders up. Very rude service. I've never seen something so bad. She should be fired, but I'm sure she won't be. Seems like she gets away with being a brat because she very much was, and we never received an apology. Recommend you train your staff to work with customers. I won't be back and will be recommending for others to avoid this establishment.

Eduardo E.

Yelp
Quality control going a little south. Ordered the Pollo Fundido which is supposed to have a nice cheese glaze and we got a hunk of half melted cheese on some chicken cubes with a torn up corn tortilla. Also, although a matter of taste, but their guacamole today was incredibly spicy! Too hot for me, making it inedible. C'mon TD, I've been a regular patron for the last 7 years or so, lets hustle up! I'm hoping this is only a temporary issue due to Covid-related staffing issues.

Raquel S.

Yelp
I have cravings for the sirloin, egg, and cheese breakfast tacos! Pro tip: Order online to pick up if you're in a hurry.

Bishop ..

Yelp
This is the second time I've placed an order online to get home to various random tacos and items we didn't order. I feel like we got their old left over tacos and whatever else they had lying around as extras. i've also been there at the store around 7ish when they were cleaning and sweeping, even though they don't close until 9. They have a squeaky wheel that needs replacing.

Tom R.

Yelp
Who's running this place? No salt or pepper to go for your breakfast taco. Expensive tacos and coffee and you serve yourself. These miga tacos are so small and I added bacon. Won't be going back to taco deli they are a rip off.

LN R.

Yelp
This location is one of the few food options near my workplace. It's busy, but employees are friendly and helpful, and the food is always great.

Laurysa D.

Yelp
Love these Otto tacos with Dona sauce for breakfast! Friendly staff and pretty quick with orders.

Mehak C.

Yelp
Everyone at Austin is divided into 2 groups - one who prefer TacoDeli and the other who prefer Torchy's Tacos. For me each place has it own style and taste. TacoDeli reminds me more of a brunch place where you get your tacos and plates of beans and rice and you eat without feeling like you've gone overboard on sauces or melts . I ordered the Tikin Xic and the Pollo Fantastica and both were good - the seafood one much better than the chicken one. For me, the tacos were nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either.

Angus C.

Yelp
Got 4 different tacos and they where all bad.... Go somewhere else... Anywhere. Had heard a lot about it and am shocked they are still in business considering the taste of the food they serve

Tim M.

Yelp
Great tacos and queso but I have to say I'm super annoyed that you can't order breakfast tacos during the weekend on your app. It's clear everywhere on your website and in stores that you serve breakfast until 3pm. But the app... oh it forbids you from ordering a vaquero at 11am on Saturday. So that means my happy self must walk in store to place my order because you don't take to go orders over the phone. That I get... staffing. Whatever. Can you please just fix your app ? The associate I talked to said that you turn off that feature at 11am?? Seriously an annoying policy. Fix please.

Yelp
First time eating here. Not at all impressed. Paid close to $5 for a sirloin taco. Seriously??? Where's the beef??? Taco was cold and had more onions than meat. Total ripoff. I asked for a deli bowl (as written on their menu board) and was told they couldn't give me that because it's not available. We're talking about just adding rice and beans to my order!

Paris H.

Yelp
The shrimp tast dirty like it was not cleaned right the service was horrible never going back

Steve M.

Yelp
Food was decent. However, this was my first time in and the employees could not answer any questions. Pretty sad when your own employees don't know anything about your food. I asked several questions, including one about the salsa on a taco. The counter person couldn't answer, went to another employee who gave a vague answer, obviously didn't know. I took a chance and it was too spicy. Ended up throwing it away.

Julie F.

Yelp
1st time at a Tacodeli. Have always heard good things about them. Personally, wasn't impressed. Ordered Breakfast tacos x 3: 1. Bacon, egg, cheese - flour tortilla 2. Sausage, egg, cheese - flour 3. Chorizo, egg, cheese, avocado, cilantro - flour Total nearly $9. ($8.8x) Biggest disappointment: Size - VERY SMALL! Flour tortillas are not homemade. Son said the sausage taco was 5 stars for flavor. Other son said his was nothing special. I didn't care for their chorizo: VERY spicy and meh flavor. Bummed at it's heat because I really wanted to add Dona sauce (but would make it too hot for me). Avocado was the best part of mine! Good quality eggs (richer yellow) Dona sauce is awesome! (Had some by itself, lol). Bummer. Was hoping to be more satisfied.

Sharon F.

Yelp
Great quick ordering online. Or, go in and enjoy the staff and atmosphere under the trees. Always epic and consistently good. Go on and give it a try...

Britney G.

Yelp
From Houston, I have heard of Tacodeli before, I just hadn't been yet. I just happened to be in Austin when I got around to trying it. We ordered some to-go breakfast tacos. Everything was pretty reasonably priced and I don't have any real complaints. The FOOD: - The Sirloin, Egg and Cheese: This is by far the best breakfast taco on the menu in my opinion. It's loaded with flavor and protein! The steak was pretty tender as well. Rating: 4 - Migas Taco: This was just average. I rarely had a bite with any meat in it. I thought migas was supposed to be eggs mixed with meat? Maybe I am mistaken. At any rate, it was kind of bland. Rating: 2 - Chips and Salsa: The chips were pretty good, pretty thin and crispy. The salsa is a little bit spicy and also very thin. You won't find a chunky salsa here. Good flavor! Rating: 4 Overall, it's not a bad spot. I plan to go to the one in Houston and try it for lunch or dinner. I will report back on the Houston locay! Follow me on my way to Foodietown! http://britneygfoodie.yelp.com

Mike P.

Yelp
Great tacos, nice setting with outdoor seating and reasonable prices. Wished you still had your pazole on the weekends but understand you can't always get what you want. The one thing that really needs to stop is this asking for a tip upon ordering. It's simply obnoxious. You are a fast food restaurant so be that!

Julia C.

Yelp
Great location, decent parking situation, not a long line, and food was ready fairly quickly. These tacos have a great, fresh texture and flavor. The 3-4 salsas that they offer are all fantastic. The queso was thin but delicious. Will be back for more!

Laura R.

Yelp
Why would anyone go here instead of Torchy's?! We decided to try it since we were in the area. Truly disgusting food - rubbery meat, bare toppings, poor presentation. I would be embarrassed to serve what I was served. Queso bland. Packaged chips. Nothing seemed fresh. We tried it, won't be back.

Apple J.

Yelp
Love tacodeli and will change review upon redemption I usually pick up taco deli tacos from a local coffee shop where they're always warm and ready at the time of payment but today I decided to stop at taco deli. I love the store and the staff are wonderful here but I believe there's much room for improvement. I drop by after a long night shift and just wanted some warm tacos and then to go home and pass out. I ordered one taco to eat there and want to go at the same time. The gentleman was kind enough to notice I was in scrubs and offered a healthcare worker discount. He then turned around and asked me for tips which basically obliterated my discount. One taco was brought out and he was surprised that I had to order another one. 5 to 10 minutes later the Tico taco came out. It was cool. The tortilla was cold. The egg was on the cold side. The joy of breakfast tacos especially on a cool morning is that they're served hot. I took it back and requested it be warmed 10 minutes later I went back to the kitchen and asked if it was ready. They said they were still working on it meanwhile five other people had picked up their orders and walked past me I suggested that they invest in a warmer because when I pick up my tacodeli tacos at the local coffee shop there in a warmer and never ever served cold for this reason. Another 10 minutes went by and I thought outside where it was sprinkling waiting for my taco to be made. This was a total of 20 minutesWaiting for the 2nd taco to be made the right way ... after the first taco was brought out. It wasn't busy like it usually is. I lost 30 min of my time to rest before another shift waiting on a 2nd taco. These are supposed to be fast and warm. On another note, 2 days ago the roja salsa tasted pretty bad like it had no salt at all. Someone should taste test each batch for QA. I hope you can improve. Not sure why a certain amount of breakfast tacos aren't batch prepared daily and set in a warmer: it would reduce wait time and eliminate cold tacos. And I paid nearly $8 for this!

Paul D.

Yelp
In the area and decided to eat here since I had my Tacodeli VIP Gold Card with me. This reward card give you points for free tacos. The parking here during lunchtime was awful but did find a spot. Two very popular places are next to each other and one is this place and the other is P Terry's. I ordered the Mexico City Sirloin and the limited edition Short Rib Taco along with chips and guacamole. Longer wait since it was lunchtime and busy. The new Short Rib Taco was great and a little spicy. The guacamole was spicer but all was excellent. Seems like now you have to ask for a sales receipt if you want to claim sales tax on your 1040. Be careful driving around this shopping center where it seems like everyone is in a rush.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Honestly I hope nobody that works at taco deli ever wonders why it's the only job they can get. They are incompetent and lazy - if you can't even get an order right thats digital right in front of you, how are you going to amount to anything else in life?

Eric K.

Yelp
Austin's best tacos! Disappointed the removed the conquistador from the menu. Line can get long at noon.

Helena H.

Yelp
I wished I had more space in my tummy to eat while I was in Austin. It's all about the tacos and BBQ there. A friend had recommended Tacodeli for the breakfast tacos. We decided to come after a hike near the area. A busy late morning they had, but we had just missed the breakfast (7am-11am). The service was still on par. I ordered 1 taco because that's all the room I had in my tummy. The POLLO EN PIPIÁN ROJO was very good and has a kick to it. The tortilla was soft and chewy, it held everything in place. Good taco joint!
